In the Kiraverse game, the crash log is hard for me to read but it looks like a null access error which would likely mean their system is querying the server for the top players, and NO player list is being returned. It then assumes it would at least get something and accesses it, throwing the crash. So quite literally the crash seems to be that there are no players on the leaderboard lol

I (very) briefly worked for a company trying to market "steam for NFT games" and the marketing materials were like ... every single time they needed a graphic it was axie infinity, because it was literally the only one that anybody would recognise. Like, to have a Steam equivalent you need enough titles to make a marketplace worthwhile and there just isn't anything.

I was an artist for a crypto game. I was pretty deep in the koolaid at one point. But tbh, I think I just told myself that to justify it, and primarily I was more excited to make art and put stuff in a game. It's been over a year since I've had any work given to me, which is fine by me. I've had time to consider what I actually wanted to do and am pursuing that instead.... away from web3 and crypto.
To me the graphics only look bad because of UA-cam's EXTREME video compression. Whenever you move around, everything looks like a 2005 game and when you stand still, it looks like a 2015-2020 game.
nft games are jsut the distilaltion of mobile games. mobile games are only for the whales, but they still have to make a product for the rest of us. nft games say "prove you're a whale FIRST, then you can play" thus reducing the content they have to make. it's natural evolution imo. laws that control the cesspool that is "mobile gaming" are too late. it's gonna keep getting worse. the next step will be having to open or link a bank account with the game company making the nft scam in order to even log in. your user will be your account number, your pass will be your pin. and legislation is still thinking if they should regulate lootbox gambling. we are 3 generations past that.
I started watching Only Fools and Horses after Ashen's and Nerdcubed's advent calendars, and now there's a second mention of a show I'd never heard of before. It's pretty funny.
You doing Jauwns series now? Always loved your crypto coverage, I just hope you doing a similar series raises interest in his channel too rather than becomes competition for views.
4:05 I dunno. I just tried to open steam and it is experiencing server issues. The must have killed it. They must have been biding their time for the perfect alpha strikes. Totatly.
Once had a crypto bro rant to me on Twitter about how nft gaming would be the most disruptive feature I asked him to name a singal unique thing nfts provide and all he could say was being able to sell skins in rocket league then when I told him you could already do that without crypto if devs wanted to he started using buzzwords and screaming about how all big gaming devs were corrupt and nfts were the awnser to this day I don't understand why if a dev is corrupt would they give players something that in his view would hurt the devs
I think this is great idea Kira with all your previous videos looking into Web3 gaming. As a life long video game player with over 3 decades experience I stand fairly firmly in the group that don't believe a crypto/web3 game has a chance of ever being a good game since they are not really be made for gamers but for investors. Still, I'd like to know what is out there and how it's progressing and appreciate your efforts to bring this to light since as you pointed out it's not as easy to find out if any of these games are any good compared to non-web3/crypto.
Grit is a testament to the power of modern tools that allows anyone to slap together a game (using that term loosely) that looks decent to the eye but offers nothing in the 'fun' area. All these games are just the same game template from the UE marketplace that have been 'repainted'.
All the crypto-bros I know in real life are mediocre guys without marketable skills, with an obsession for commodities and the acquisition of wealth simply for being in the know of a 'new' tech. Yet, all of them have only a surface-level understanding of what a blockchain is and wouldn't be able to write a smart contract to save their life. That might explain why these games are all subpar. You can't really expect mediocre people to produce amazing things.
Great video. I agree with some of your takes, but your Kompete take is a bit off, maybe through lack of research. Will be making a video to refute some of those points
I think the problem is that entrepreneurs don't focus on trying to make original games, but on making bad copies of successful formulas. I mean, how Fornite or COD works, everyone is focused on making Battle Royals and it's infuriating. Lately I have acquired my beloved Sega Mega drive, from my childhood, to feel again and enjoy those video games again, which, although graphically much more mediocre than what we see today, were terribly addictive and fun. Why do current developers go crazy trying to create perfect humans, or hyper-realistic environments, and completely forget whether their game idea is functional or fun? Why not focus on trying to do something that no one has done, and I don't mean making another hyper-realistic face where you can see the pores of the skin, but thinking about making a game that is fun.
how to know kompete's devs don't know anything about guns is the fact it's ejecting full bullets after being fired, didn't know it was a pacifist game where you kill people with your imagination and the guns are purposely built to cut back costs of building the game by making sure the bullets can be retreived and resold as NFTs later. Perhaps theyre going to make a profit by selling all the unspent rounds players are "firing" at each other.

This is exactly like Jauwn's worst crypto games series, you two should DEFINITELY get together on it.
A search with no end.....but Kira makes everything better!
Was really hoping Josh would one day do a video similar to this but I'm so damn glad it's you - a much better fit
I like the fact that all these 3 games are Lyra clones
Great series idea. I look forward to seeing some more of these complete nothing games that are "the future" of gaming.
Dang... did not know KJ Braithwaite (dude who cut in line recently at Disney Epcot) would be in a super meh nft so soon...
I hope you get lots of opportunities to put art in games, beyond crypto scams. Or at least leeching money off them while doing whatever you want to
To me the graphics only look bad because of UA-cam's EXTREME video compression. Whenever you move around, everything looks like a 2005 game and when you stand still, it looks like a 2015-2020 game.
I love the idea of josh strife hayes' series (worst mmo ever) branching out into other genres
You should make a colab with @jauwn, the guy at this point is an expert in the horrible shenanigans of crypto gaming.
LOL, when you started talking about Kiraverse I thought you were doing a bit.
nft games are jsut the distilaltion of mobile games. mobile games are only for the whales, but they still have to make a product for the rest of us.
nft games say "prove you're a whale FIRST, then you can play" thus reducing the content they have to make.
it's natural evolution imo. laws that control the cesspool that is "mobile gaming" are too late. it's gonna keep getting worse.
the next step will be having to open or link a bank account with the game company making the nft scam in order to even log in. your user will be your account number, your pass will be your pin.
and legislation is still thinking if they should regulate lootbox gambling. we are 3 generations past that.
This is absolutely amazing! Please keep doing these!
13:06 Oof, that roast left only ashes.
Cryptobros don’t want to play a good game, they just want to make money
Interested in you trying gensokishi or Stella Fantasy. Saw these on my feed a lot so curious as to see what you think.
13:53 my jaw actually dropped when I heard that price.
The adventures of Kira the Krypt Keeper? Let's go! \m/
If you do find a unicorn with two horns... that's not a unicorn, it's a rhino, and you should run.
For a moment I read this as Kira started his own multiverse variant, the kiraverse
Pretty much all of crypto scams-games allready dead, so its gonna be hard to make content about them.
Great video. I agree with some of your takes, but your Kompete take is a bit off, maybe through lack of research. Will be making a video to refute some of those points
The future of gaming!
A unicorn with two horns is just an antelope.
Step 1: Join a new crypto game
Step 2: Get scammed
Step 3: "No no, this next is the one that will work!"
Repeat
Now I'm hoping for a super special (longform, lol) Episode about Peter Molyneux' Legacy. And of course revisiting Earth 2.0.
how to know kompete's devs don't know anything about guns is the fact it's ejecting full bullets after being fired, didn't know it was a pacifist game where you kill people with your imagination and the guns are purposely built to cut back costs of building the game by making sure the bullets can be retreived and resold as NFTs later. Perhaps theyre going to make a profit by selling all the unspent rounds players are "firing" at each other.
"a unicorn with two horns" like a rhino or like a bull?
Those my dear sir… don’t have horse bodies lol
Josh Strife Hayes is probably insulting Kira in a colab rn, I've seen this before
You should collab with Jauwn. His profession has become playing bad crypto games.
Kia, this is why we love you. You're blunt but FAIR.
"secured the bag" damn right they did
