    I am born in Triberg Dec.12,1950. Came to the US IN 1954, live in Az now grew up in Calif. My dad is still alive at 94. I will watch all your videos with him this week.

    There has been some serious local drama around that biggest Cuckoo clock, a guy just outside of Triberg built one on his property, functional, completely mechanical, made by him out of wood and got the Guinness world record for it. And then a few years later someone else made a bigger and more central one (the one in Triberg), supposedly built just for profit with much less love and care (though I have never heard the other side of the story). All of this happened before I was born and some people are still annoyed about it. The old one is now called "World's first biggest Cuckoo clock" and you can still get a tour by the person who made it and actually see the mechanism inside

    • @TypeAshton

      Wow! We did not know that! This really makes us want to go back and see this other clock you mention, especially if someone took the time and effort to make something with such care. Thank you for letting us know!

      How long would you spend walking around Triberg? I think seeing the big clocks would be roughly 15 minutes, tops. Not sure whether or not to head out to another cute town after seeing the water falls. Thanks for your comments.

    Before Covid there was an annual event called "Triberger Weihnachtszauber". I think it will come back in 2022. It's always between the 25.12 and the 30.12. It's magical. A lightshow with nearly 1 million lights. A fire artist show around the waterfall. A Christmas Market with lot's of foods and drinks. Usually there is snow so it looks like a fairytale. I think you would really enjoy it.

    • @TypeAshton
      @TypeAshton  3 роки тому +1

      We saw pictures of it when we were doing our initial research and it looked truly magical. Is it confirmed to be closed for 2021? We just got word that the Weinachtsmarks in Freiburg is going to happen this year. Maybe we can hold out hope for the Triberg festival as well. ❤️❤️

    • @JuliettaLia86
      @JuliettaLia86 3 роки тому

      @@TypeAshton Unfortunately it won't happen this year. They've already announced that it will come back in 2022 though. But there is another cool Christmas market that will happen this year. It's under the bridge at Höllental. It's in the Ravennaschlucht.

    Hallo do you hear about "Vogtsbauernhöfe" there are Old Buildings from the Hole "Black Forrest" or to the "Glasbläser" in Gutach. There you can show like Glas is formed with air.

      Yes! The Vogtsbauernhof has been on our "to visit" list for so long and we were thrilled to learn that it has recently reopened. You can definitely expect a video from there soon! And we will also have to tack on the Glasbläser. We have visited the glass manufacturer in Ravenna Gorge and loved it. So many beautiful things to see and do! Thanks for the recommendation!

    I lived in Germany in the late '80s. I was in the Canadian army which had a base in Lahr Germany which is a few kilometers up the Autobahn from Freiburg. I'd love to get back and revisit the region. I visited Triberg many times. You are lucky to have the opportunity you have.

    Funny thing about the squirrels: the red (and, presumably their black cousins, too) are a different species than the US (and UK) grey squirrels and the latter apparently are better at adjusting to their environments so they are threatening to push out the native red squirrels (things you learn when home schooling an elementary school child during lockdown :) ). So the Triberg squirrels are even more privileged than you thought! BTW, I grew up close to Triberg, visited many times(school trips and otherwise) and had never heard about the Triberg gallows - thanks for teaching us Germans our own history :)

    • @TypeAshton
      @TypeAshton  2 роки тому +1

    I remember visiting Triberg expecting one very high waterfall of 160 m and being slightly disappointed to find kind of a terrace of 3-4 waterfalls. I had a backpack for the baby, was easier than a stroller. The cuckcoo clocks were fun and the area was beautiful. If you like waterfalls, check out the Rheinfalls in Schaffhausen, CH. A little (ok, a very little) like Niagra Falls.

    • @TypeAshton
      @TypeAshton  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Ernest! Totally! We have the Rheinfalls on our "to-visit" list. From what we have seen, they are beautiful nearly year-round. And we are definitely adding a baby backpack on our shopping list. Jack just turned 6 months old and it would open up a lot more possibilities for exploring the Black Forest and off-the-beaten-path destinations.

    Hello Black Forest Family,
    How much time should we allocate to walking around Triberg? We plan to hike to the top of the falls but unsure about what there is to see in the town. We saw the 1000 coo-coo clocks store, but is there anything else to see? We will leave Ludwigsburg (driving) in the morning and felt Triberg would be a good place to visit until we can check in our hotel in Friburg. Thanks in advance any recommendation you can provide.

    Can you guys comment more on the corona test in Triberg?

    Was it free?
    Is it available for everyone, including tourists from other countries?
    Thanks!

      Hi Michael! The Corona testing was easy. It was located just down the street from the waterfalls at the Kurhaus. It was totally free for us, but they did ask for an ID card and our address - so there might be a small fee for those who are not from Germany. No appointment necessary.

    You have to go to the Waterfalls during Christmas time. Theres a Christmas Market around the Waterfall, with Glühwein and a lot of different foods. A Band is playing and at nighttime theres a huge fire show on top of the Waterfall. And the whole Waterfall is colored with lights. Really beautiful.

    I'm multiple times a year in that area with the motorcycle and oh boy did I notice that I was out of shape when I was the last time at the waterfalls in Triberg.
    If you're interested than you might check out Steinwasen-Park near Notschrei / Schauinsland which is a theme park with a small zoo. Also a bit further is the town of Todtnau which has also some nice waterfalls and also the Hasenhorn-Coaster one of the longest all-weather toboggan run in Germany.

    Welcome to Germany. Just discovered your channel. Really appreciate your video.
    Don't worry, adults can fall in love with the typical red squirrels as well, so go ahead and hold out your hand as if you had something in it.
    Squirrels along those paths usually are so trained and so unafraid of humans that they will be climbing your pant legs in seconds once you stand still for more than a few seconds.
    Hehe, the claims of certain areas to be the highest, the longest, the origin, the whatever goes back decades at least, if not centuries. The rivalries springing up from that are long-standing, and often bitterly fought over, despite them being totally ridiculous. 😁😋
    Greetings from Hamburg from a German.
    PS: Ashton, don't rip your husband's head off for climbing that tree. He might deserve it, but still... 😂
