Black Forest in German is Schwarzwald. Literally translated it means 'Dark - or black - World'. The wonderful thing about snow in Germany is that it usually is soft, fluffy and dry! Nothing like the slurry we get in the UK. We have German family in a lovely Black Forest village - husband's son married her and they produced two gorgeous girls - before he slithered out, we're ashamed of the little skunk but have a lovely DIL and grand daughters! I also lived in Germany for eight and a half years - second stint as a teenager at boarding school on the North Sea Coast. All were English Forces schools. SO, it was fabulous to follow your Rhine cruise - I only really spotted that you visiting one Christmas Market in Koln/Cologne. Looking for landmarks I wasn't sure that you actually left the market around the mooring area beside the Cathedral. Koln Cathedral was left unbombed during WW2 as it was a guiding landmark for our bombers. Ditto with St Paul's in London - a valuable landmark so it too was largely untouchd. Lucky guys - I HOPE you had a shot of brandy in the Gluhwein - pronounced 'Glue-vine' - AND that you didn't take the mugs back to collect the deposit. You need to have at least kept two of them! That's how it's done guys! x
Ben and David, I cannot tell you how much we enjoy watching all your shows. The places you go and the Ships you travel on are so beautiful and it makes you feel like you are there too. Keep up the wonderful jobs you are doing and a Heartfelt Thank You.
All good things do come to an end, especially a Christmas Holiday cruise. Let's hope that all bad things also come to an end in 2022 as well! Thanks to both of you for all you do sharing your experiences with us. All the best in the new year! 🥳🎉
'Kiss a cow and call me Daisy'. You crack me up! My husband and I especially enjoyed this series. Brought back so many memories of our Viking Rhine Christmas cruise. Thank you! ( keep showing us everything you eat!)
David, I love your sweater so much, where did you get it?? i watch all your videos but hardly ever comment because i watch on my tv and can't comment there. Your channel is just wonderful, i enjoy it so much. Happy 2022 and Happy Cruising!
I love you UA-cam channel. You should have a travel TV show; but I wouldn't get it because I live in the US. I could watch the both of you ever day. I look forward to your next video. Love you guys.
I`ve enjoyed this series so much, thankyou guys! I sincerely wish you both the very best in 2022, you do such an amazing job filming and editing the vlogs , may you have a blessed and prosperous New Year. Much love from Vancouver Island BC Canada.
Hi guys! We just rewatched your series to get us ready for our Christmas Markets cruise this year. Thanks for this series and for your tips and help choosing what and where to eat. Can't wait for the Gluwein.
Hi, Ben and David: Here's a tip for extending the life of a piece of cake or cupcake by a week. If you have purchased a frosted cupcake, or piece of cake, or cake from your local bakery. placing any of the above-mentioned sweet treats on parchment paper. Placing them in a gallon sized plastic storage bag and removing the air will create a seal and placing them in a freezer will extend the life of these sweet treats by a week.
I love your videos! I have been doing a Ben and David marathon today! I had a best friend who passed 10 years ago David. You remind me of him so much! Never stop being you ♥
Glu wein, the drink you have at the end of your day skiing. My mum and dad observed it regularly. Another warming winter drink is lambs wool, it's a spiced ale flavoured with cinnamon and nutmeg topped with a dollop of stewed apple with brown sugar and cinnamon. Both lovely and makes the winter, however pretty, whiz along to spring more quickly
Ben and David, thank you for sharing your journeys with us in 2021. Living in northern Ontario Canada we have not been able to travel as we once did so it's been great living vicariously through you. I hope you had a great holiday season with family and friends and wish you good health and happy cruising in 2022!
Happy New Year!!! Loved watching this series. I had no idea they had these types of Christmas Market cruises… now booked with Avalon for a Christmas river cruise 2023 🤗. Best to you both in 2022 🍾
Oh my gosh, Milk a camel and call me Daisy!! Love you guys too much! Thank you so much for sharing. I get the most joy out of watching and living vicariously through you!
I'm catching up with all your sailing vids and as usual I loved every bit of this one too. Keep on Cruising Ben and David... From a Scot in Australia 🙃
You guys have rekindled my interest in cruising! My parents took me to the Black Forest when I was 5. I remember peering out of the car window looking for the gingerbread house. Part of the reason the ceilings were low was also to conserve heat. Very often people kept a few of their animals in the house with them. The low life span was an average, and about 50% of people died before the age of 2, so that pulled down the average age a lot. The truth is, if you lived until 12, you had a pretty good chance to make it to your 50’s or longer. Because of childbirth though, women did tend to live a shorter time, but in England at that time, people did not marry until their late 20’s and the men were closer to 30 - 35. It wasn’t until potatoes were commonly grown that people were able to afford to marry earlier.
How Wonderful that it snowed for you guys! It just snowed here where I am and I admit I was a giddy schoolgirl too! Thanks for the great tour-it is always a pleasure to join your adventures so thank you for taking us along! Question: could you do a segment about river cruise pricing? I think many of us would love to know more! Thank You!
This was my absolute favorite! Seeing the Black Forest Village was amazing - felt I was there, too. Please - more river cruises and the excursions!! Thank you!
It was like you both being in a Snow Globe! When we did both of our Christmas cruises, we got about an inch or so every place, and it made everything so magical! Very entertaining vlog! Thank you so much for taking me with you! Happy New Year! Vickie from SE Pa, USA
Hi Ben and David 💓 If you want snow come to northwestern Minnesota 🌞 and if you want cold come to northwestern Minnesota 🌞 It was 30 below zero fahrenheit at night and we got about 7" of snow 🌨️ Happy New Year and may it bright and gay!
Happy New Year! Love watching you both! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this as I have a brother that lives in Karlsruhe and always talks about the Black Forest. He actually just sent my son a cuckoo clock as a wedding gift in September. Me and my husband want to take a river cruise some day. 🥰
I love Cruising! Your segments and Vlogs are so much fun!! Also, until I saw your River cruise , I never thought of doing that. I need to look into that.
I NEED that Pug sweater! I'll tell you what! This was THE best cruise I've ever seen on your channel. All other cruises seem like cracker box next to this. Those big ships are no comparison to this one. Wow. This was certainly magicial, personal, and so comfy. It's too bad I can't experience myself at this time because I'm not ever getting vaxed so thank you for taking me along. You guys are the best!!
I’m thoroughly enjoying this series in 2022 a month before Christmas. Our Rhine river cruise was in October 2016. This is magical and so entertaining. I keep laughing with delight!
When american family and friends come to visit us in Switzerland, I also introduce them to pretzel bread and that is ALL they want to eat the whole stay! Even try to take some home in the suitcase!
These videos from your river cruise have been the most amazing and fun to watch videos! I really felt like I got to experience these wonderful places that you visited with you. Thanks so much, for taking the time to share your vacation with us. May 2022 bring you every happiness. You two are absolutely the best!
Happy New Year guys, love the content, you always show. Look forward to seeing you both in 2022. River cruising looked amazing, is it recommended for a disabled guy, one reason we love cruising.
It's not so much the cruising that I think you'd struggle with but the excursions. Europe isn't v disability friendly to tour (cos all those old sites with stairs etc) so you'd really have to do your research and probably get a good travel agent who could advocate for you and go over thoroughly what the cruise line could offer you (I imagine you could access at least a few markets - tho you'd have to explore the entire egress - but getting on and off buses etc would need to be planned ahead etc etc). Also Emma Cruises did a river cruise video some time back that briefly discussed how wheelchair access on different cruise boats differ as some have elevators, some don't OR they do but not up to the deck etc. I know it's a pain (I have multiple food allergies so I'm no stranger to the frustrations of travel research) but I'm sure you're used to research mode when it comes to travel

“You can’t buy happiness but you can buy cake…” wiser words have never been spoken!
I’m a retired nurse and years ago I cared for an old lady. She loved LIGHT🌞. She always wanted all the lights on, all the time!
Ben & David are living their best life.
We need a hour long compilation of all of David's hilarious double entendres
Milk a cow and call me daisy…. I’m still laughing. Thank you Ben and David for this most wonderful look into river cruising. 🤗
I love the transition that goes from talking about smoking corpses to saying I am feeling so very Christmasy lol

I wish I had white Christmas too. Growing up in Canada, I love white Christmas . But now it’s opposite, I live in Florida.
It was noble of you to eat all those cakes to prove to us how delicious they are. I am grateful!
Thank you for the video.

Ahhh, what a magical place you have to call home! Hope your holiday season was grand.
Thoroughly enjoyed this trip. It’s confirmed I’d like to do a river cruise
I can’t tell you how much I have loved watching all of your videos. I watch so many cruise vlogs but you two are by far my favorite!

I wear the Cambridge Mask N99 which I bought online from UK. Pricey but well worth it as it has a built in filter. Sooo no soggy mask
