    His story about bonds reminds me a story of Kenny Smith told about Bill Russell as a coach. Basically Bill Russell was frustrated that his big man could not rebound the ball. When the centre and pf asked for tips about how to rebound better, Russell was confused and just told them to just go up and get the ball. Rebounding came so easily to Bill Russell that he could not comprehend lesser athletes would struggle. he couldn’t relate to lesser athletes and he didn’t know any tricks for performing a task he found so simple

    • @zenmar84

      Bill Russell as a player coach was successful because he was just such an amazing player. His coaching record not counting the years he was also playing is not impressive at all
      Sometimes people who are great at a task are horrible at teaching how to perform the task because it just comes so natural to them. I’m good at math I try to teach some of my nephews math and it was just such a struggle because they had holes in their knowledge base that I could not believe a high school student would have. I can’t imagine how a supreme talent like Barry bonds would be able to relate to the struggles of the average hitter.

    I looked up the Marlins stats in 2015 and 2016 (Barry was hitting coach in 2016). I think the main problem was the lack of improvement in RBI. The Marlins could just not get runners across home plate in either year. That said, they improved across the board. So I'm not sure what Samson was expecting. Perhaps an improvement in RBI from 29th to 20th would have saved Barry's job?

    Calling Brandon Drury a block buster trade or Corbin?
    Block buster for whoever got Jose, maybe.
    A-rod “the worst person for a team”? He hit 30+ home runs the year before, and was off to a good start in his final season before he was injured and missed time.

    Jose Fernandez for Patrick Corbin, Brandon Drury and AJ Pollock. That would have changed the course of baseball history. Fernandez probably would still be a cocaine user but I'd hedge my bet that he'd still be alive.

    His point about Barry bonds being a bad hitting coach is so true. In fact if you look at all four major sports… There are hardly any superstar players that turned into great coaches. In fact, the opposite is true. Since they didn’t have to learn their elite traits, their experience is unrelatable to about 80% of people on teams.

    • @harveyhorwitz1346
      @harveyhorwitz1346 3 роки тому

      They didn’t have to learn their elite traits? No they just woke up and they were great hitters. Didn’t need to play in the minors to learn their mechanics. When Bonds was the hitting coach the Marlins had the fourth highest batting average in baseball. He has been the hitting coach to some of the best batters in the game. Your ignorance is evident.

    Y’all are hype Jeter is running the show in Miami but forgot that he’s just as selfish as Alex Rodriguez? Typical. Dont forget there’s a reason A-Rod was stufk at 3B despite being 2x better than Jeter at SS defensively AND offensively before and after steroid use. Both are pricks but its shameful that one gets way more hate than the other.
