Thank you for tackling the question of the power differential between the Armada and the QX80. I’ve been trying to find that information and you took care of that nicely.
Patrol in Russia was 400 hp, when it premiered 6 years ago. The front windshield bars were blacked out from factory and looked much better, than body colour.
My father's company truck is a 2010 BOF Toyota Fortuner 2WD. We live in the City & We are not into off-roading, but we need the ground clearance & the 7-seats so an SUV is the way to go. We had multiple SUVs over the years (a 2003 Mitsubishi Pajero, a 2004 Chevrolet Trail-Blazer, a 2002 Ford Explorer) all were BOF 4X4s, but we never been in a situation where we needed the capability. We bought all of them new except for the Explorer & eventually came to the conclusion that having a 4X4 just for the sake of having a 4X4 doesn't worth the extra price & weight penalty for our case of usage. As always, excellent work M! P.S. After more observation, the Armada gets a chrome plate in the rear bumper while the Patrol settles for a plastic one.
I got the QX80 a month ago. Rides great, interior is great. Tech is so dated, exterior is not pretty, but it does grow on you. Its the capabilities and size that swayed me. The Escalade was junky and walked away from a good deal on that. So far I'm very happy, again, what a ride. Looking forward to take it off road and drive it in the snow here in Canada.
own a RWD 2019 version , Very Capable Vehicle and the power is explosive , with the 4wd drive there is always the weakest link of the transfer case , i test drove both and find the RWD is much more sportier on the road than the 4wd ones , i dont do off roading at all nor do we get snow etc so the RWD is the perfect , also own a 09 LE RWD and its going strong can never go wrong with the V8 even when its just a RWD . Thanks
I owned a 2002 Cadillac Escalade in 2wd. I specifically sought out a 2wd because I love in Georgia where it rarely snows and I had no use for the AWD. The 2wd also came with the 5.3 whereas the AWD came with the 6.0. I averaged 16 city and 22 hwy with the 5.3 on regular. The 6.0/AWD combo is thirstier and wanted premuim. Being a daily driver, I didn't want to have to buy 26 gallons of premium gas a week at $3 a gallon.
I can't answer the 2WD question... it's the same thing with people buying 2WD Jeep Wranglers. After watching this I kinda want a Nissan Patrol. I never could stand the look of the Infiniti, plus the price with options was eye popping compared to the competition, so this seems like a deal. As for Tahoe, most people buy Subis, followed by misc large SUVs but as for the percentage of of 2WD I don't know. The roads going up to Tahoe are pretty well plowed and almost nobody but locals gets winter tires, so unless you make the trip all the time you are either don't need 4WD or are putting chains on regardless. I have made the Tahoe winter trip in a supercharged mustang, Miata and various other unsuitable vehicles numerous times and never had an issue (knowing how to drive on ice/snow helps).
I could see buying a 2wd large SUV, IF I lived in one of the more southern states, and just wanted something that can haul a lot of people and/or tow. with the weight savings, it would be quicker.
i totally want one! i just bought a 2015 pathfinder last year great suv cuv. but this one I'm putting on my list, and being in the dc area, some snow comes and to avoid all the dopes who can't drive, id always get the 4x4. should be called patrol as well!!!
So, MotoMan... you often times say 'to be honest' or 'if I am honest'... does it mean that most of the time you are not HONEST? It is a phrase that is best left out of your videos. Also, where are Part 1, 4, and 5 of this Patrol/Armada series? PS. Constructive criticism, above. I really like your videos and you are one of the few reviewers on UA-cam that includes a lot of valuable info. Entertaining delivery, too! Keep 'em coming!
You already answered your ending question. This is a Mom-mobile to drop kids off at ritzy private schools. It's highly unlikely it will ever see an off-pavement situation in its life and if you live in a place without any real snowfall or ice, 2WD and stability control is just fine and you pick up some gas savings along with it.
Let's have an agreement everybody. If it doesn't have 4WD don't anyone dare call it a Patrol b/c will laugh at your silly ass. I'm guessing the 2WD version is for pure city Moms who fancy a big vehicle. Great episode as always chief.
I said that I have a Patrol 2019 400 horsepower engine called Armada Unfortunately, all the meter counters, the speedometer, the fuel, the heat and the pressure of the engine oil were all documented. Unfortunately, Nissan is currently evading the handling of the problem and says normal. Do you have a solution to this problem or repair I have sections that illustrate a terrible factory bug
you didnt seem to mention the landcruiser, wouldnt this model of armada (patrol) be the direct competitor of the landcruiser here in the US? i know they are about 20k difference in price, i imagine thats because toyota only sells about 2500 a year if they sold 10k or more that price would be lower (in theory), i know price-wise it competes with the ones you mentioned but from an engineering and offroad capability standpoint wouldt this armada and the landcruiser be direct competitors? the tahoe, sequia and escalade are nowhere near th eoffroad capabilities of the armada and landcruiser.
They sell a lot of FWD crossovers too. Maybe you need the room and figure you'll never need the 4wd? Maybe you don't know any better or maybe that few thousand bucks is that big of a deal? It happens a lot though. If you don't go offroad and live where it snows twice a year do you really need it? Probably not.
I just find it odd. They've replaced a 12 year old vehicle with a 6 year old vehicle. It's progress I suppose, but damn. I would say anyone interested should probably just buy a used QX56/80 instead...but they'd have to live with that face.
i drove this thing once and i nearly crashed it taking a U-turn in the dirt xD ok i was driving an-slk before that and that thing can turn on a dime BUT THIS THING !! u need half the moon empty for it to turn xD its soooo soft and floaty too and the power is there when u need it :> and i drove the G-class now that thing is hardcore compared to this both suck at U-turn but i tend to like the smaller cars more so i leaned into the G-class ^^ oh ya that thing is built like a TANK this nissan is well put together :>
How could Nissan think this is ok. This truck came out in 2010 badged as qx56. Damn near 7 years later they are giving customers the rebadged version of an old truck. Are they serious😡 I was looking to see a qx80 replacement by now and they are just bringing this thing out. Ridiculous 😡
remember th eold armada was built on the US truck frame, just like toyotas Sequoia, the land cruiser and this model of armada are direct competitiors. toyota only sells 2500 landcruiser a year in the US, probably because the Sequoia is less money, i think nissan is smart for waiting and discontinuing their "sequoia" and only offering the top dog.
Honestly the biggest thing that kills this vehicle is that ugly glossy fake wood on the interior. If it had an open pore look or the option for brushed metal or even just plain black it would be much better
why even bother buying it in 2wd? its better to just have 4 on hand even if you dont use it a ton....... its better to have it and not need it than to be stuck in a snow storm or mud pit.....
You didn't actually take it off road. Sure you had some wheel articulation but it was all on a contrived specially made course. Any of these so called OFF ROAD TESTS that are on such built tracks don't convince me of it's ability in real four wheel drive situations. It is an option to the Land Cruiser I guess,,,,,Kinda,,, It does make me want to at least go test drive one..
Ahhhar har har hardie har. Fails to ask why we are braking over those obstacles... it's because if you don't it just teeters and jerks once the rear starts to lift. If they had a LSD in the rear they could go much slower and wouldn't have this problem of having to speed over the obstacles fast enough to allow the thing to brake over the obstacles
What a joke! YOU CAN TELL THESE TIE GUYS NEVER BEEN ON A REAL TRAIL RIDE! Actually advertising the weak drive train american made POS to the Australian Patrol ! More like a Chevy Impala. Not same drive train or suspension what so ever. see Outback winch challenge Australia. those are Patrols. These American nissan vehicles would never finish the race. I am pretty sure my Old Nissan 2wd Hardbody would win seven of ten off road challenges against any 05 + nissan 4x4s with same tires mounted and would definitly out survive all of them for trail beatings. Bring back the Hardbody drive train. if you hire me as your new truck designer we can beat the Toyota and Ford Raptor becoming #1 off road truck in America
If you can't understand what's being said, you should simply shut up....The "POS" is made in JAPAN, the engine is built in America (we KNOW how to build V8s.)
Why? Why? why? why?, Why? Why? why? why?, WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???????? why would Nissan put that piece of shit stick on AUTOZONE/ PEP BOYS vent on the fender, the lines don't even go with the car. WHYYYYYYYY ?????? they did it on the infinity a few years back and it looked ugly on that too.
Expedition for getting grocery ? Thats an awesome choice. But please dont compare it to the offroad legend Nissan Patrol. This thing can do things expedition can only dream about. The Patrol and Land cruiser are known for their Offroad prowess and added long term reliability.
Yeah for grocery getting...same as this thing. This doesn't have the locking diffs and some of the other important equipment that the global version does.
mak450 well for one, the size of the Nissan has an overall smaller footprint which makes it more maneuverable in tight spaces which will comes in real handy in very day and off-roading situations 2. It will be a more reliable vehicle compared to the Ford 3. The fit and finish offered in the Nissan surpasses that of the Ford 4. It is hands-down a better looking car.
You guys must be idiots to think that this is a competitor of the Toyota Land Cruiser (the real 79 series), even the LC200. The USA Nissan Armada is NOT the Patrol everyone referring to. The Armada has IFS front and back. What a load of shit. LC200 has IFS front and Solid Axle in the Rear. This is tolerable, but still crap compare to the y60/y61/GQ/GU Patrol or LC80/LC79 which yielded double sold axles. In USA you have: Nissan Armada (IFS + IFS) vs LC200 ( IFS + SA) In Rest Of World you have: Nissan Patrol (SA + SA) vs LC79 ( SA + SA) How on earth can you possibly buy a 60k worth piece of IFS garbage? Stop naming these cars the Patrol or the Landcruiser... This is like the time a news reporter called Magnus Carlsen the Justin Bieber of chess... Awful.
Thank you for tackling the question of the power differential between the Armada and the QX80. I’ve been trying to find that information and you took care of that nicely.

10:40 "this little car is such a blast" - little?? this thing is gigantic
I know really "little" as compared to what...?
I got the QX80 a month ago. Rides great, interior is great. Tech is so dated, exterior is not pretty, but it does grow on you. Its the capabilities and size that swayed me. Wish it had a big sunroof. Call it a Patrol!! 4x4 for me. I'm in Canada with snow and I pull a trailer in the mountains.
We have a 2WD body-on-frame because we have to haul and occasionally need the passenger room. That and it looks good in the Walmart parking lots lol
own a RWD 2019 version , Very Capable Vehicle and the power is explosive , with the 4wd drive there is always the weakest link of the transfer case , i test drove both and find the RWD is much more sportier on the road than the 4wd ones , i dont do off roading at all nor do we get snow etc so the RWD is the perfect , also own a 09 LE RWD and its going strong can never go wrong with the V8 even when its just a RWD . Yes, but you do get a CRAP load of rain, and AWD is definitely better in wet/snow/ice conditions.
I can't answer the 2WD question... it's the same thing with people buying 2WD Jeep Wranglers. After watching this I kinda want a Nissan Patrol. I'm becoming a big Armada fan. Now I just have to decide between an Armada and a QX56
I have the Nissan. You will not be disappointed. The smoothest 4 x 4 I've ever owned.
I could see buying a 2wd large SUV, IF I lived in one of the more southern states, and just wanted something that can haul a lot of people and/or tow. with the weight savings, it would be quicker.
Great video! I wish I could buy one.
I would buy a good used example of this and drive it till the wheels fall off.
i totally want one! i just bought a 2015 pathfinder last year great suv cuv. but this one I'm putting on my list, and being in the dc area, some snow comes and to avoid all the dopes who can't drive, id always get the 4x4. should be called patrol as well!!!
Wheres video 4 of 5 and 5 of 5?
holy shit at 7:42 and so on it looks like a snapshot of the truck moving...of course minus MotoMan.
So, MotoMan... you often times say 'to be honest' or 'if I am honest'... does it mean that most of the time you are not HONEST? It is a phrase that is best left out of your videos.
Also, where are Part 1, 4, and 5 of this Patrol/Armada series?

Yes, I completely agree with you, you sir said what I was going to say.
Someone is jaded
Let's have an agreement everybody. If it doesn't have 4WD don't anyone dare call it a Patrol b/c will laugh at your silly ass.
I'm guessing the 2WD version is for pure city Moms who fancy a big vehicle.
Great episode as always chief.
Definitely a good looking Nissan.

I want one!
Big controversy over using regular or premium.
The man just said ECU is burnt for 87 octane.
Why won't this play? Video not working
13:34 a creature crawls by in the back.
I figured you would want mcphereson strut suspension vs double wishbone on high suspension travel aplications
Good stuff!
you didnt seem to mention the landcruiser, wouldnt this model of armada (patrol) be the direct competitor of the landcruiser here in the US? i know they are about 20k difference in price, i imagine thats because toyota only sells about 2500 a year if they sold 10k or more that price would be lower (in theory), i know price-wise it competes with the ones you mentioned but from an engineering and offroad capability standpoint wouldt this armada and the landcruiser be direct competitors? the tahoe, sequia and escalade are nowhere near th eoffroad capabilities of the armada and landcruiser.

I don't buy a truck or SUV that's not 4x4, just doesn't make since.
i drove this thing once and i nearly crashed it taking a U-turn in the dirt xD ok i was driving an-slk before that and that thing can turn on a dime BUT THIS THING !! u need half the moon empty for it to turn xD its soooo soft and floaty too and the power is there when u need it :> and i drove the G-class now that thing is hardcore compared to this both suck at U-turn but i tend to like the smaller cars more so i leaned into the G-class ^^ oh ya that thing is built like a TANK this nissan is well put together :>
With a few mods....Overland Touring SUV
I will pick the Lexus Lx 570 over this any day
This doesnt compete with that. It competes with the sequoia
Considering the Lexus 570 is the luxury version (almost identical) to the Land Cruiser, yeah, we'd all take the Lex.
it's almost double the price.

It's a shame they let go off the real awesomeness of the Patrol when they got the new Armada to NA
I love it
Honestly the biggest thing that kills this vehicle is that ugly glossy fake wood on the interior. If it had an open pore look or the option for brushed metal or even just plain black it would be much better
You really don't even need to speak. Your arms and hands do the talking for you. I can understand hand, I'm Italian.
Supper cool👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
why even bother buying it in 2wd? its better to just have 4 on hand even if you dont use it a ton....... its better to have it and not need it than to be stuck in a snow storm or mud pit.....
Motoman you should see the 2016 patrol it looks more sexy and more horsepower 400 and can out beat the the infinite Qx80 and armada at off road.
I'm sure it cost much more. this can handle what 99.9 percent of the people intend 2 use it on. this also runs on regular fuel...
You didn't actually take it off road. Sure you had some wheel articulation but it was all on a contrived specially made course.
Any of these so called OFF ROAD TESTS that are on such built tracks don't convince me of it's ability in real four wheel drive situations.

nissan patrol y62 has better articulation than armada, there is somthing different in the rear suspension
Does motoman have other shirts?
He probably shot all these videos in one day.
Nissan needs to fire their interior design team
Their exteriors could use some sprucing up as well
Theirs interior design look way nicer than Tahoe/Yukon, Expedition and Sequoia crappy interior.
Ahhhar har har hardie har. Fails to ask why we are braking over those obstacles... it's because if you don't it just teeters and jerks once the rear starts to lift. If they had a LSD in the rear they could go much slower and wouldn't have this problem of having to speed over the obstacles fast enough to allow the thing to brake over the obstacles
a Nissan patrol with an interior from a QX80.
2WD also for rental car fleets :)
So, ask Hertz or Enterprise or Avis
don't really care just another vehicle to get you from A TO B ok
Honestly the Infiniti naming jokes are stale...geez it's going on 5 years now...:/
My wife asks that you please quit saying "Yummy Mommies" as it nauseates her. Thank you.
Its a Nissan PATROL
why nissan is just rebaged all cars now??????cant fight against toyota
Nissan stayed behind in 2003-2004
What a joke! YOU CAN TELL THESE TIE GUYS NEVER BEEN ON A REAL TRAIL RIDE! Actually advertising the weak drive train american made POS to the Australian Patrol ! More like a Chevy Impala. Get a Ford Expedition instead.

+Joe Summer you tell him. how dare he compare this thing to a crappy Ford?
Yeah for grocery getting...same as this thing. This doesn't have the locking diffs and some of the other important equipment that the global version does.
mak450 that is true, it's pretty much a watered down version of the Patrol, but it is still better and more capable than the Ford.
mak450 well for one, the size of the Nissan has an overall smaller footprint which makes it more maneuverable in tight spaces which will comes in real handy in very day and off-roading situations 2.
