    This is called PATROL NISSAN here in Saudi Arabia, it is popular since 2010, I've just bought a new one "Gold" color 2016, page interior 400 HP, no changes since 2010 except one extra fan to cool the radiator . It is so powerful and comfortable to ride. Since of a King riding the most powerful hours in the world. Best choice for anyone can afford it. Pay it don't hesitate.
    The new Patrol "Nismo" Nissan 2017 is similar but with 425 HP and beautiful accessories.

    Badging the car as Armada cheapens the value of this car.
    Here in Middle East(Qatar) a fully loaded patrol goes for about $80k while the last gen Armada is sold side by side for about $55k. The original Armada being the Sequoia's competitor, this new one should have been redesigned accordingly for that segment.
    The Patrol competes directly against the Land Cruiser and is the flagship of Nissan. Add to this the fact that it has a rich heritage. It should be given its own name and segment.

      There's no heritage for the "Patrol" name in the US. I guess that's why

      They Infiniti QX80 is based off of the patrol (I think) being the full flesh 80k patrol. This car has more of the patrol look but I would assume they don't want to make a direct competitor to the Infiniti from Nissan itself

      To me it looks like they designed this model for the American market, compared to the previous models of the Patrol I personally find this pretty darn FUGLY. they made it look fat. I much prefer the previous model design more similar to the Land Cruiser.

    I think armada is a good idea for several reasons. Most importantly for nissan is that the Armada was in production for over a decade thus a lot of SUV buyers probably either considered owning one, owned one, or at least saw them around. When the armada first came out in 04 they called it the pathfinder armada solely for the reason of name recognition since the armada name was completely new. Additionally the Patrol has decades of history and rugged heritage. It is a legend, an icon in many countries around the world. It has this reputation with good reason. Nissan has built these extremely well with quality control being at the higher levels than their normal cars. The patrol is a true off road go anywhere and not anywhere like on a trail at your local national park like an average 4x4 expedition. Like really anywhere front and rear locking diffs being able to cross deep rivers ect. The point I am getting at is that the armada is not a real patrol under the skin. It has the same engine and trans which is good because those will last forever. But they don't have the locking diffs a lot of the beefed up components that make the patrol is great. The patrol name is an icon and you can't just slap it on a nissan badged QX80 or 56 whatever you want to call it just because they share the same body and engine and whatever else they share. Its like the m3 name you can't just get a 328i add the new m3 engine and dct for another country and call it an m3 while leaving out all the components that make the m3 so great...you would say an M3 without the M3 suspension/exhaust isn't a REAL m3...same holds here in my opinion. The patrol and the land cruiser (at least where I was born in santa cruz) are the cream of the crop most desirable car you can have. Like in the US maybe a dream car would be a ferrari bentley rolls or whatever that is the level that these trucks are viewed in many countries overseas. Fully equipped brand new models of these 2 trucks can easily set you back close to 200k usd and they sell very well for our market standards. You see them everywhere granted not all of them are new models most are ancient mid 80s early 2000s but the point thats that these trucks are legends and known for their capabilities. They are also a symbol for success if you have a newer one.
    I am 21... born and raised in bolivia but have been living in the US for the past 10 years
    Final thought: Any nissan SUV without locking diffs is no patrol.

    I'm an Aussie. I drive a Patrol. When I went to school, the "Armada" was a misconcieved Spanish nautical failure. What are the marketers thinking? The truck is a Nissan Patrol. Don't call it anything else.

    I've had Platinum 4x4 for about 5 weeks now. Test drove the 2017 Denali & Tahoes... This Armada feels like a beast compared to them. It's so much better ride and no vibrations (like on the 1st 2 New Denalis I drove). I've taken it on 2 ski trips up to 10,000 ft peak and it performed great. I don't care if this frame, blah blah blah is 10 years old and the inside is from the QX80 blah blah blah... The tech works great even though it doesn't have apple car play. This thing is really cool- you pay less and get more in my opinion.

    In the USA here. I never heard of a Patrol until a week ago when I began considering a 2017 Armada. Now that I have learned of its heritage, I do think it would be a good idea to offer a Patrol package here in the USA, which includes all of the off-road goodies that the Patrol gets. It would be great competition for Land Rover and Jeep.

    • @MaZEEZaM
      @MaZEEZaM 7 років тому

      Unfortunately for you guys in the US you seem to get a fairly basic model regarding the off road capability but with lots of comforts. In the case of the LandCruiser you get a mid range version where as in Australia where these two vehicles were designed for originally we get 4 model variants the top being the Sahara. Having said that in the case of the latest model of the LC the basic model is quite a ripoff with the lack of inclusions, its not usually so sparse, a Ford Falcon had more inclusions in 1995.

    • @Grumpy_Old_Van_Man
      @Grumpy_Old_Van_Man 7 років тому

      True; however the fact is that probably 99% of US buyers (me included) would never take our version (Amada or QX80) off-road, so the extra money spent on those features is wasted. This is especially true for what would be such an expensive vehicle. With Jeep Wranglers that is not much of a concern.
      Having said that, however, it would be nice if Nissan offered the off-road goodies as an option ... would still be wasted money for the most part but, you know, it makes the guys feel better that they COULD off-road it!

    • @DJ9iron
      @DJ9iron 7 років тому

      Bob S So the fact that almost all Land Rovers have those features is a waste? How about a trim level such as the Pro4x to keep in line with tradition?

    • @Grumpy_Old_Van_Man
      @Grumpy_Old_Van_Man 7 років тому

      No, not a waste if the features are actually used. Personally I like all these trim levels and features. But lets face reality, if those features are never used, its money wasted - except for the value of the feeling it may give you to just have the features.

    Thanks for the video MotoMan , this is definitely a Nissan Patrol we call it the hero of all terrain in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Well what I think from my point of view is that Armada is a name plate that's already exists in the U.S and Patrol is not. So it's easy for Nissan to market this as a an All new Armada for the whole majority of people who don't know a Patrol. Well I know that there are people know patrol and those are view like you and other car enthusiasts but the majority of household buyers they will pick a new handsome Armada.

    We bought a 2019 Nissan Armada SV (with tow package and power lift gate) three weeks ago, in Missouri, in the U. S. of A. Five or six times a year we haul seven or eight people. Four or five times a year we pull a 6,000 lb boat and trailer. We had, previous to this, a 2015 Armada. The inside of the older Armada was FAR superior to the new Armada for several reasons. 1. Rear seat climate control. 2. Third row seating comfort was WAY roomier. 3. The cup holders were varied in size and held the cups more firmly. 4. The second row seat was wider. 5. Without the trailer, the acceleration seem very close. 6. There is WAY less useable storage room when the third row seat is up. The new Armada interior is 1. WAY more elegant. 2. Te exhaust note sounds WAY better. 3. Has navigation (that is not up to date compared to our Garmin or our iPhone maps.) 4. Has HD radio and a better station preset system (but the 'tone' changing controls are not as good.) So the while the NEW Armada may sound better, look better, and have more toys to play with, and is more elegant for four passengers ---> if you drive long distances, haul more than four adults the older Armada might be better. The new Armada should be called the PATROL. It would be nice if Nissan would shorten the hood of the new Patrol to give the passengers and luggage more room. THEN they could call it an ARMADA.

      except for one little problem I don't think, with all due respect, you guys are thinking about : buyer recognition. in America, no one knows what a Patrol is. they know what an Armada is, and interesting enough, most people out there still praise the first generation Armada overall. Nissan had this fact to contend with when they decided to go this route, even though it was rumored that originally they were going to do an American Armada off the new Titan. The simple fact is Nissan has to think about sales. And if they called this Patrol, it would just raise a lot of question marks in the American buyers minds. Armada was just simply the best name for Nissan's full-size SUV in America.

    I completely agree that is should be badged as a Patrol. My reason is that the Patrol has a legendary name and until recently I didn't know that the Armada was simply the rebadged legendary off road vehicle, that I was always a little sore we couldn't get here in the states,and never considered it anything more than a soccer mom car. Now I am super excited about the possibility of obtaining one of these amazing machines. When considering what to get next I wanted a SUV but was limited to the 4 runner as the only "real" off road option but didn't want the small 6 cylinder. Now, however I am almost ready to trade in the old Titan and replace it with one of these. Also, I am going to try to find a Patrol badge from the other side of the world and rebadge it myself. May be dumb but it will make me smile

    I guess the Patrol name does fit this car better. In the Middle East (Lebanon), it is sold as Patrol. The Armada is just a 7 seater that competes with the GMC Yukon or Terrain and not the Toyota Land Cruiser. The main competitive of the Land Cruiser is the Patrol not the Armada nor any other American or European SUV. Imagine Toyota letting go of the Land Cruiser name and using Sequoia instead. The heritage that comes with the Patrol and the Land Cruiser is just too huge to overlook. This is a mistake, Nissan, it is a wrong marketing strategy.

    Yes it should be called Patrol, but I think NIssan opted to stick with Armada because it sound more expensive than the workings man/ humanitarian action Patrol. Having said that Armada or Patrol - if I was you I would not care, I would rather be happy that Nissan is offering this configuration with your local dealer, unlike the entire Europe that has gone completely small SUV - loosing both the Patrol and Pathfinder in one go. So it is back to the land Cruiser and MB -G class for us in Europe. Regards from Sarajevo, Bosnia. P.S. Nice first look - loved the down to the important things attitude.

    I like the idea of a patrol package, make it off road capable, air suspension, huge factory tires, tuned exhaust, two tone! I think America loves the Armada nameplate because that's what we were introduced to. I remember being young seeing the Armada for this 1st time & just shocked because I never saw 2nd door handles on the pillar, the armada was always like Nissan middle finger to a traditional square ish SUV & that's why I think they keep Armada because that's what USA associates Nissan big SUV with, next to the pathfinder, but remember the '04 armada, which had armada & pathfinder on the tailgate, although it was confusing, what if they did that, armada + patrol? It is confusing though! Much Aloha from your viewer here in Hawai'i

    MotoMan it would be nice if you coudl detail the differences between the QX80 and the 2017 Armada/Patrol. Also in your opinion please relfect which is a better buy and if a consuemr is missing anyhting going with a Patro over the QX80 a.k.a 'The ugly squished Rhino' - that's what it looks like to me.

    Patrol for the 4WD version used by MEN, Armada maybe best described as a MOM's family hauler in 2wd version, but glammed up a bit for MOM..
    Overall, I'm impressed about the new Nissan truck and SUV lineup for 2017, with exception of this model, like Toyota, contain more Made in USA components than most domestic Big 3 brands, NOW if they can sell them to the masses in numbers... !

    Nissan would never change the name from Armada to patrol because the name Patrol originated from the Middle East so in that part of the world the name Patrol is traditional. But in my opinion, yes they should change their name to Patrol.

    Hi MotoMan. I would like to see Patrol instead of Armada. The reason is personal. There is a story from my childhood. For almost 21 years I had the accident with my bicycle. Because I had transported some liquid milk product in the glass bottle with me, I had cut my leg deep and I was bleeding heavy. Fortunately it was happed near to the cargo railway station, where the workers have been unloading the pipes for the Yamal-Europe pipeline. There was some kind of chief of these workers with the
    silver 5 doors Nissan Patrol. He has been called by the lady from the railway company to help me to get into the town (approximately 4km). So he offered me the ride to my hometown and also to the medical station as well. I am grateful for what he has done for me. So the name Patrol is always in my mind and means a lot for me.

    We have no Infinity brand in New Zealand apart from the odd JDM import, leave this model as a Patrol, add more content to make a new upscale infinity BUT the change must be more than cosmetic.... more power or a power-train mod will be required to justify the money. just an opinion if not light on content....

    I totally agree with you MotoMan when it comes to the name change. i'm a Huge fan of Japanese' cars, and i'm talking about the real stuff they have in japan, not the North-American crap you see running around here, so when they bring over a JDM/Global model to the states i really prefer it when it retains its original name plate, but in the case of this Nissan it's a simple fix just Debadge the Armada badge and buy the Patrol name plate off the internet and put it in it's place.

    The big problem with the Armada and QX80 is that they don't get the same MPG as the Patrol does because the European standards are much much higher than standards in North America. Regardless though 14/15MPG in today's world is like the 4MPG that Hummers got in yesterday's world.

    I don't understand Nissan's reasoning for using the name Armada on this SUV. The name Armada doesn't have a lot brand equity in the US -- it hasn't been used for very long, they haven't sold many, and they don't have a very loyal following.
    They really should call it the Nissan Patrol here in the US.

    The all-new, sixth generation, Y62 series Nissan Patrol was launched on 13 February 2010 at a VIP event in Abu Dhabi.[8] A luxury version (Z62) was sold as the Infiniti QX56
    from 2010, which was later renamed the Infiniti QX80 in 2013. The Y62
    was introduced in North America under the Armada nameplate in 2016, for
    the 2017 model year. It was presented at the 2016 Chicago auto show to
    the US market as a replacement for the Nissan Armada (WA60).

    E.U. based . This in my view should be Armada because here we had the previous model as Patrol & only with 2.8 & 3.0L diesel engines , if ever it's called Patrol in the US/Canada it should be a more Utilitarian Off Roadish Diesel version ... This in my view is far too luxury to be a Patrol & not sold in the EU anymore . Btw you summed up the other body on frame vehicles , if those were it i guess you don't have the ( outdated ) Mitsubishi Pajero or Shogun to be correct ...

    Writing from the U.S.A. I know next to nothing about the Nissan Patrol. Is it a less fancy version of the Armada? If so, it might make sense for Nissan to continue to sell the Armada in the U.S. but introduce the less fancy version here under the Patrol badge.
    Different horses for different courses. The "best" vehicle for rock crawling isn't necessarily the best for mud bogging isn't necessarily the best for camping trips with a wife and two kids. Is the Armada better for rock crawling than the Nissan Frontier PRO4X? If so, how much better? And just to give you a way to answer that I might understand, let's say you were to find a list of back country roads in the vicinity of Moab, Utah arranged from easy to difficult to more difficult to most difficult. Which of the two vehicles could be driven on how many more of those roads without mechanical damage of the kind that would prevent you from driving the rig back to town under its own power?
