This man was one of the biggest magician's in tennis history. Despite being one of the shortest players ever, he had an unorthodox style with two handed forehands that could beat anyone on his day.
In this video we’re taking a look at two of the most famous matches of his career, where the magician completely outplayed Roger Federer & Novak Djokovic. - Спорт
Coach: vary your shots, you can't slice everything
Santoro: watch this
One of the last players who did not focus everything on physical power but everything on touch, intelligence and positioning on the field. An ancient art of the game which has practically disappeared under the blows of the loggers on the fields.
Yes, he had a very orthodox way of playing that annoyed the best. Funny story: l met him when he was starting his professional career at the Nice tournament and asked him for an autograph because he looked like a tennis player and lots of them just used to hang out. He was kind of shy and surprised l asked him. I also asked a random player that ended up winning the tournament and make a name for himself. Sorry totally forgot his name. End of 80’s beginning 90’s.
And you didn't show Santoro's 6/1, 6/1 demolition of Pete Sampras.
Neither the 7 victories on the great Marat Safin (for 9 Head to Head)
He looks like if David Ferrer did a LOT of Ayahuasca 😄
classic
Could aid in his creativity out there. I can tell you in undergrad I ate a couple caps and had people stopping and staring at the shit I was hitting. Swinging topspin volleys and shit it was crazy. #Notsustainable LOL
he cant look like david, only david can look like him (younger).
MERCI, j'ai toujours pris beaucoup de plaisir à regarder Santoro jouer à Roland Garros (la bete noire de Safin ^^).
Using his left hand on the forehand slice, really interesting. Even letting go with the right hand sometimes so it's like a left-handed backhand slice with a high grip.
Wow. That's what it's all about. Play the way that works for you. Love the originality.
Santoro was sooo wily…. I love the journeymen in tennis, who so often show us that every dog has its day! Great court IQ and ability to vary the pace of his shots and just place the ball where it needed to be. Tactically astute. Reminds me a bit of Tomic, before he imploded. When Tomic was still trying he was one of the most exciting and unique talents I still I’ve seen in tennis, a one off never intended for mass production!
Santoro vs Rios. What a match!!
Very good idea to do this video on the "magician"! 👍🏻
yo love the vid G!
Thank you for highlighting some other interesting and entertaining ayers from the recent past. Like Hseih Su Wei, it's great to show there's more than one way to play tennis. And for sure, his style caused some top players problems when they initially faced him, they were able to eventually figure out and solve his game..... But let's all appreciate shots you just do not see often of at all in the modern game. A total entertainer.
Most fans of the big 3, who whine with excuses whenever their beloved stars are beaten think they love tennis, but honestly IMO it’s the journeymen who are unique who show us how much variety of play style and tactics is actually possible in this most beautiful of sports. They make the sport richer, and give it its soul! It’s sooo nice to see different players and styles…
Le magicien français ! Incroyable cette vidéo !🤩
Merci!
Santoro looks like the guy you would pick up at the public court.
Beating Nole 3 & 2 with a knee brace and a clown shirt. Epic.
Spot on! The truth is stranger than fiction.
Loved to watxh him
Legend!!!! Forever
Quel talent, bravo l'artiste !!
He is the granddaddy of circus tennis. Monfils' master and Kyrgios' grandmaster
what a funny player!
A great man on the top at the right time ❤
He is Marat Safin's Boogeyman
Exactly. Santoro vs Safin was a very entertaining matchup because Safin was all about power and shotmaking, whereas Santoro was all about finesse and "toying" with his opponents. Complete contrast of playing style. Everyone used to talk about Federer vs Nadal when it came to complete contrast of playing style, but to me Santoro vs Safin was a better example.
Yes..always caused nightmares to Marat
Et que dire de la victoire 6/1 6/1 de Santoro contre Pète Sampras alors que Sampras était numéro 1 mondial ? C'était une victoire incroyable.
I love how he creates point construction with that drop shot + DTL combo. Really amazing. Just traps the opponent on that line and beats him with it.
Santoro : Mic Drop ❌
Santoro : Racquet Drop ✅
Obviously good enough to compete with the BEST, but he HARDLY made anyone look "amateur". They got in as many shots as he did.
used to drive Safin to despair too
The double backhand dude!
Not exactly. His forehand grip still was a right handed forehand though he would let go often to make it look like it was a lefthanded slice. Look at his forehand in slow motion and you see he has a cross grip on it. It really is unique. I say this because while I am right handed, I play tennis with a lefty two-handed backhand and a righty two-handed backhand.
@@ianhastings8165 I think Seles did the same thing.
Le bon vieux temps du "service volée".
I miss him.
Santoro was a player with incredible feeling and complete other rhythm. No one of the best wanted ro compete against him. Remember Sampras vs S. At RG ....
Segura would be proud.
The title is a little too much exagerated
The last of the tennis Mohicans
Both were professional tennis players and not newbies. They were beaten because they were outsmarted
THE MAGICIAN!!!
Il était cool ce mec.
I like this guy more than the top ten
Funny take. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Fabrice. But H2H is 9-2 and Fabrice only won against Federer in the early parts of Federer'career. Then, in their final 8 meetings, Roger never again surrendered even a single set. Outplayed? Well....
Fabrice can still write on his CV: Defeated Federer und Djokovic 😊
He is only 1.77 m tall. It is a huge disadvantage in modern tennis.
I think he is even shorter
-Mum can we have Kyrgios?
-But we have Kyrgios at home.
*Kyrgios at home:*
Sense of humor: 0
Cringe: 100
Winning SOME points against opponents don’t cut it.
Necesitamos otro Santoro en el tenis actual
Honestly this is making me think what would happen if someone used alot of Slice DTL Forehands against Djokovic?
A win is a win…
Wow… he has beaten a 6 year old Federer and 8 years old Djokovic. What a legend
more than you could ever do..
He was Safin's worst nightmare
Does he play for Celtic?
È stato un grandissimo talento penalizzato dal fisico
Santoro must be one of the most unorthodox professional players in tennis history !
Djokovic in Tomic version
This video is a bit misleading
Santoro is 9 years older than Federer and almost as old as Sampras.
Head to head vs some players
Vs Federer: 9-2 Federer
Vs Djokovic: 1-1
Vs Nadal: 1-0 Nadal
Vs Roddick: 4-1 Roddick
Vs Agassi: 3-3
Agassi 3-3 wtf. That comparison is so much more telling given they're only 3 years apart. Thanks man
Did not know that he split with Agassi
@@muriloborges9481 I think he split with Sampras as well. He was actually a good player
Santoro played a lot of soft balls. If his opponent was having an off day it worked great.
Santoro and Dolgopolov.
Sounds more like a broken clock . It’s right twice a day
Santoro just served them Sliced Breads No1, No2 & contd.😅
When Christian Bale plays tennis
Oh yeah, that's tennis school...
the title is misleading; one match or few matches mean nothing, and this was not Prime Federer, he was a very very young Federer...come one.
Federer was like 9 years old here. Lol😅
Santoro was unique especially his play style but he never had what it takes to become a player who people will talk about in fifty years. Just my opinion.
These were pre-prime Fed and Djokovic.Apart from that Santoro was so 'magic' that he hardly won anything in singles.
Curiosly this was the match Djokovic was accused of fixing. I’m not saying he did but is weird how it looks like he’s not even trying.
Of course he fixed it, he knew he didn't have a chance of winning 🤣🤣🤣
Aghassi destroyed him in Canada ...6-0- 6-3 in 52 min Santora second serve was super weak
Rios is the greatest magician show us some of that.
France is good at producing magicians, santoro(tennis) and Simon gauzy(table tennis)
Santoro ... lol, no grand slams
Roger in 2002 and novak in 2007 were not the real Federer and not the real djokovic yet. Years later the same santoro has been punished by these two.
Both were top 10 players then sooo
@@xxxxxxxx8634 right, because the player's ranking is directly correlated to the opposition level of his opponents
I dunno, 2007 Djokovic was pretty real and established very quickly as a top 3 player. And correct me if I'm wrong but 2002 Federer made his first MS final in Miami and then won his first MS in Hamburg and the next year he won his maiden slam at Wimbledon. Both of them were already becoming very good and in the top 10.
Bad excuse..
Apprezza Santoro e basta: è arte che nobilita il gioco del tennis. Mille volte meglio lui che un robot monotono come Djokovic
That title is pure clickbait horseshit. He didn't make either of them look amateur.
Clickbait title
Good choice of content, but terrible quality. HD aspect ratio and 1970's video quality....?
Thanks man! It's the only thing available in the entire internet unfortunately
Haha the magician???? Yeah, I don’t know about magical wonder but he’s something. Congrats.
Can’t watch this two-handed tennis… My first coach tried this technique with my forehand and it was absolutely awful
Outplayed? 🤣 Next year Federer 6:0 him... twice... not much of a magician, then again 6:0 when Federer hit his prime in 2004 and at this point its Godzilla vs Santoro, but good for number 17 player on atp list
Madrid isn’t on clay? You think nadal would win on that or Novak against Federer? Probably not
Nadal won Madrid before it went to clay in 2005 lol casual
@@SJ-di5zu yes against Ivan not Federer. I don’t even think Federer played Madrid in 2005.
You must be out of your mind comparing him to Federer and Djokovic.
Too bad they got rid of the dislikes feature on UA-cam.
the dislike feature is still there and you can even see how much dislikes there is via a Chrome extension
he is the best worst tennis player ive ever seen his volley skills are other worldly
Ugly but effective tennis. You don't teach strokes or strategy or techniques or tennis like this, but you can't argue with the results. This is an aberration of homemade swings and shots mixed with natural ability and talent. Not really advisable tennis and not how to teach beginners just learning the game.
Lame
ahahaha these indian narrators fabricating whatever they "want" to claim from facts out of context.🤣 Fabrice was a hell of a player... but he never reached the top 10. So... he could never make Djokovic or Federer look like amateurs...
Santoro is nobody in tennis history. Useless video.
It's always nice when the arrogant Federer loses
2-9 to Federer. teNniS gReAesT maGiCIan. lollll sure
Grande fantasista
Djokovick looks terrible here. I cannot believe he came such a long way. Doubted it before i watched the video but it does look like he fixed the match of purpose
