Haroer Haktak I think he did it twice to prevent any noobs from claiming he already knew the combo. If they see it change right in front of their faces, they know it’s the real deal.

I’ve found two of these in my neighborhood destroyed by thieves with just a flat tip screwdriver. They bent the box where it latches with the button both times. Although it was probably the same thief.
Many common keyboxes are very easy to break open with a screwdriver or similar. I think the best use for them is as a delaying tactic: hang a keybox somewhere conspicious, with keys inside that don't actually fit any locks. Makes the burglar waste time and effort, increasing the chance of him being discovered and also increases the number of places where he's likely to leave forensic evidence.
Saw one video of you 2 month ago and got addicted Bought a Picking Set on amazon 2 weeks ago Helped a friend to get into her basement compartment yesterday by picking her lock. A Master Lock no less... XD
It's not really exact, just ball park close, BUT I still find it kinda COOL that the channel has hit a MILLION SUBS right about the 1000th VIDEO. CONGRATULATIONS Harry, on consistently putting out GREAT content, and hence ... achieving your fantastic success.
Would love to see an explanation of the internal mechanisms like in the other combination padlock videos so we can understand why tensioning the fork leads to finding the correct combination
Hey, LPL. I recently used the knowledge gained here to decode a cheap little luggage lock to which I had forgotten the combination. It was not surprising that it was easy, but I was surprised that it was easy for me! Thanks!
I've known my landlords for over a decade and they have been in the business 3 times as long. In all that time they have not had 1 person pick one of their lock boxes. They have certainly had broken windows, door jams and the like but "smart thieves" have not been an issue. They also pay a LOT more than $15 to secure keys to 125+ residences worth from about $175,000 and up. But beware LPL has featured an electronic lock worth well over $100 that he was able to disassemble with a Phillips head screwdriver and a little hook to pull out the foam pads.
I've been in property for 7 years. I haven't had one of my key lockboxes opened even though they sometimes go onto screen doors and are very visible. One of the models used at work was featured on LPL and of course it's a Master Lock. Nor have my colleagues had anybody get into the lockboxes. Admittedly the properties I work with are usually vacant, little worth stealing. Squatters just smash their way in and bypass the lockboxes.
I guess it wasn't possible to tension it with the shackle, but that's only a guess - it still might be if using a pick to tension it was just a bit easier and faster.
Fun fact, using the knife tool or some sort of thin tool with an edge at the end, you can slide between the body and the shackle and push down and wiggle to release the shackle, if you just want to remove it from whatever it is attached to, a knob or lever lock, for example, this way you can have the entire lockbox in your hand or on a bench to decode.
How hard was it to find the "sweet spot" to apply tension to the first time you worked with this lock box? Also is this style of attack pretty common with lock boxes?
Pick up a cheap set from banggood and get started, the set is extremely good for the price and it’s enough to get you started for sure, maybe pick up the set of tension wrenches from there too as that was my main complaint with that set
Next on LPL, defeating this bag of Doritos....."Not the easiest thing I've opened. In any case, that's all I have for you today. Thank you and have a nice day"
The soft and cool narration paired with the brilliant illicit activity make me want to dub LPL the Patrick Bateman of lockpicking. DISCLAIMER: Ad hominem for entertainment purposes only.
If it’s the same as the lock boxes a real estate company I work with. you can bypass it even faster with a paper clip by reaching behind the wheel and depressing the latch
If I were making a combination lock, I'd add warding in so probes can not be used, and make it such that tensioning the shackle or other mechanisms would not be useful. The technology exists, but no one dares to make something high quality due to cost reasons for mass production.
What is a good lock to buy that is pick resistant against your average Thief as well as something built strong enough to resist bolt cutters and the double wrench method. I want a lock that is decently pick resistant an won't be overcome by brute force or pair of bolt cutters
Been trying and trying this on a lockbox on a foreclosure home ai recently purchased, but my shim doesn’t fit between the wheels, so I shove it in above the wheel instead of next to it, and I cannot seem to engage the mechanism. HELP!
This is my first time finding this channel and now I've watched a few videos. The main issue I have: I would ask that the lock you are picking be put in a real life scenario. If this was on a door you would not be able to hold it like you did. Not saying you couldn't do it, bc clearly you can, but you would not be able to turn the lock upside down if it was on a door. So I'd like to see more realistic openings of locks in your videos.
I see, most commonly, locks that use a twelve button (push button and wall mounted) codes to hold keys within. I'd be interested to see if, and what weaknessses those types of locks hold.
Most videos you do are quite fun to watch, but they are alwsys about how bad are the locks. could you make an episode with some locks you would recommend for various uses ?
The ease with which these things can be defeated is alarming and scary. My Moms recently installed one of these things (not this brand) outside of her house for back-ups... now this has me concerned.
Hey LPL, I picked up a brinks model 5059 safe for pennies at a thrift store because they had the keys but didn’t know the combo. I’d like to take a shot at decoding it before I contact the company for the code. Any advice?
I’m looking for a lock mechanism to put on a chest that is very slim and can handle the weather. The chest is a small cooler I’m making that will replace the back seat on my motorcycle so I want to build it into the chest without creating a large bulge or using complex leavers . The mechanism on that lock looks sort of like the thing I need but I prefer that I’m the only one who can open it.
Are there any code locks that reasonably secured? I don't like the idea of the lock that can be decoded by anyone with special knowledge, sometimes even without any instruments.
Maybe the grooves he feels out for decoding actually get caught on something during the "scrambling" and tend to align because of that? Would be interesting to test a few more times including a controlled combination change in between to see whether they "remember" the old alignment or the new one (if any).
Holy shit. You're right! 🤯 It's got to be a product of the mechanism, right? Because if my math is correct there's a 1 in 125 chance of that happening completely randomly.
@@playgroundchooser 4 wheels with 10 digits each means 10000 combinations in total. If we accept any arbitrary shift including the exact same code that's 10 digits we can roll through so 10 combinations. So the chance of obtaining a shifted code when all wheels are rotated independently actually should be one in a thousand. Fun fact: without a delay timer/lockout or a mechanical reset to make you lose count even an unskilled attacker should only take a few hours to exhaust all 10k combinations. Since the average will be half of that a Starcraft pro player might get it done during their lunch break XD
@@playgroundchooser I think it's more like 1 in 1000 - 10k combinations of which 10 are rotations of the original, including getting the same combination again. Maybe I'm missing something in the maths(?) very unlikely through chance in any case.

This lock is just to keep hobos and vandals out of empty houses for sale.
