I have no desire to start a podcast but it's good to know there are awesome resources out there to help get started. If anyone asks if I know how to start a podcast, I know where to direct them.
interesting comment you have here, i know this is from a year ago I dont even know if you are still alive, but if you are can you direct me to something that helps me skin a rabbit. Im having trouble with the ones i hunt i can never do it properly

So, this popped up in my timeline 3 years later. I followed Pat's advice 2 years ago. I had a small UA-cam channel and then pivoted to podcasting for my niche . I have consistently followed Pat's advice and now have a channel that is its own global brand too. I highly recommend his online courses which are value for money and will help you elevate your growth and exposure.

BUT - YOU DID A CLOSE-UP OF INSERTION AND I SAW IMMEDIATLY HOW TO PUT THE BANDS AND SLOTS AND MIC AND FRAME TOGETHER TO IT WOTKED. ALL SET UP NOW. L,IKTTLE THINGS, I LEARNED, MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LISTENER'S EXPERIENCE. YOU TAUGHT THIS NEWBIE SOMETHING IMPORTANT JUST BY SHOWING - NOT JUST TELLING. THANK YOU. new subscriber.
How is it going? I'm going to launch my podcast next month. I've had my channel on UA-cam for more than one year now and will be expanding into podcasting.
That sounds fantastic! I’d love to listen. My Snapchat is @billyjeanbruh, if you could send me the link when this is up I will promote it on my Instagram and snap chat. I know it’s not much, but I’d love to support you, notify me when it’s up!
Hey, this is great. I'm an author who has been considering recording my books. I don't charge for my books, because I want people to have them for free, long story there. I thought about making each chapter a podcast, that way new people could go back to chapter one and listen in chunks, instead of the whole book on one podcast. They are long books. I have them free on line as blog posts, but I know I like listening instead of reading, as I have ADHD really bad, and listening is a great help to us who struggle with keeping on task.
I’m thinking about it. I’m not sure what my podcast would be about yet, but I’m into it. I honestly suspect I may have severe ADHD as well and I’m considering this as a job option because it sounds more manageable.
Pat, you're the most consistently transparent teacher I've ever seen. I've been following your content since 2013. Thank you for everything you've given us!
This is the series to watch if you want to get into podcasting, I came across it while researching how to get started on my own podcast and it has been immensely helpful to me. Thank you Pat, you really get across the finer points of what and whatnot to do as well as the basics ! Watching your videos gives me more confidence in my ability to produce my own show and get my audience built up sooner than later. I was about to make all the mistakes you warned about, because frankly, I had no idea what to do. I have been writing online opinion columns for years and I have a great audience with that, but I wanted to get into podcasting to get those thoughts and messages out to my audience and hopefully gain new followers in the process. Now I feel that I have more confidence in doing this thanks to your video tutorials. ~ Rob D.
Thanks Pat. I’ve been hesitant to start because I’m not all that tech savvy but you’ve given me new found confidence to give it a go. You’ve helped a small dream of mine come alive.
I neverrrr subscribe to channels...ever. I may have one other that I actually am subscribed to...but THIS CONTENT HELPED SO MUCH! I am simply trying to start out a podcast...and knowing that some of these 'bundles' aren't necessary, but obviously I want a good mic, and a great way to edit things, and have it on my laptop when needed...so THIS...was tremendous! Thank you SO much! Don't forget me if I ever get big on podcasts (LOL...jk..obviously!). Thank YOU so much!
I have a youtube channel but want to start podcasting to assist me in using different angles to my brand. This video made it all very straight forward. Great vid
Bro I love you, seriously. You have not cluttered the show with the other equipments; you stuck with one. I'm just starting out and I need something that would start me off. Creep before you walk? I'll watch your other episodes that show how to record the other person's voice on the other line: telephone/facetime voice
Hey Pat, I was watching through this video and noticed when you go through the pop filters and windscreens, you mixed the two up. The first one is a windscreen and the second is the pop filter. Thanks for your content!
Nice video. As an audio engineer and sound technology developer I believe the "ICE" model of BLUE brand microphones is unbeatable notwithstanding that it is surprisingly inexpensive. One reason for this relates to it spherical case configuration, which has unique acoustic properties not duplicated even by their higher priced models. In particular room reverberation are minimally detected by this particular microphone.
I see that you are a real enthusiast when it comes to podcasting. I am just like you and I believe in bringing a change. Visit my podcast by clicking on this link : tap.bio/outgrowthx If not, then I wish you best luck! No hard feelings ;)
Wow, I appreciate so much the way you speak. No matter how fast you speak, every word you say could be understood. Unlike many Americans who prefer contracting their words while speaking very fast. I wonder why they do it: Are they lazy? Or are they so busy that every second becomes extremely important? Or haven't they learned speech? For the educated Filipinos, the manner you speaks is schooled. BRAVISSIMO!!!
❤️ I'm ao grateful for you Pat! A couple months ago I started to explore the amazing idea of becoming a Podcaster. I watched so much overwhelming videos that I almost quit. Pat makes things simple while keeping things real. I am so grateful for his webinars and the Superfans Book! Today, I'm coming back not only to tell you how much I appreciate him but I'm sharing this video with a friend that is so exciting about becoming a Podcater as well! 💕🙏🏼💕 it feels so good to spread goodness!!! 🍃My Podcast is called Bug Me Not - Big Talks for Kids and I'm so happy with this amazing Journey! ✨✨🌼 I wish you all success, happiness and blessings! 🌱 Keep on learning and putting your heart in everything you do!
I have a 400$ tube mic. But I use my audeze Mobius headphones with boom mic connected directly into my USB type c port on my phone. Very Omni directional boom mic and it sounds amazing! Especially for on the go. I usually use it to sing with apps like Smule and it's great quality. But then again the headphones cost 400$ but if you want a 20$ mic get a behringer xm8500 . I can't give that mic enough praise. It's a really great mic.
Pat, we have a ton of amazing pro equipment leftover from my musician live gigging days: Allen & Heath 16:2 Mix Board, AKG C535B condenser mic (now discontinued...the best vocal mic in the studio I ever heard), AKG D5 mic, Shure SM58, SPX90 reverb, plus more. The irony is that we are NOT USING any of it: we are using a simple Samson Q2U mic directly into a MacPro, and do all remote recordings through Zoom now instead which is an improvement in quality over Call Recorder through Skype which is what we used to do (Note: we will be switching to Squadcast soon, so we can record directly into an uncompressed .wav file). I use Audacity free version for post production, a video editing tool I like, and then publishing all our content through Libsyn. We think we are getting a good sound quality (are now up to episode #76) - but being somewhat of an audio file I always feel the sound quality could be further improved. However, I love the simplicity of our current setup up - and our listeners care more about our content anyway. Do you think it would be overkill to use all of that pro live music equipment I already own for the podcast, or are we cheating ourselves by not using it?
Great video! Garage Band is such an incredible program, and if you download the app to your iPhone or iPad, it's like having a recording studio in your pocket! Plus the functionality is the same whether you're recording/editing on computer or mobile.
Great podcast, Pat. I will not be doing podcasts any time soon but I have started making UA-cam videos so, despite being an MS girl, I found the Garage Band tutorial helpful.

Thanks for creating this for a novice like me. I have been thinking of starting a podcast but can get a little overwhelmed researching how to get started. You have made this so much easier for me so thank you!
Looking to try out a 3 mic podcast setup with video cheap and with as little post work as possible (cutting in between scenes etc).. what would you recommend to purchase?
ok so I started watching your beginning podcast and I was considering making one myself and where to i go? UA-cam of course and this is the first video I see.
You could have the best mic in the world, but it’s not going to sound like this straight out of box. The rich sound you speak of is done in post with condensers, compressors and equalizers. Think of it like an Instagram filter for your picture, but with audio. Hope that helps :)
Hey Pat. Great tutorial. Thank you. I will be interviewing people on my podcast so I'm assuming I need to double up on the equipment which is fine. Everything shown in your tutorial is only for one microphone. Can I use a USB dual adapter cable so I can connect the two microphones into the side of my computer?
On a Mac, and I bet there is a way to do this on pc, if you plug in two usb mics, you can create an aggregate audio device and record on two tracks simultaneously on GarageBand. Again, I only know Mac but there are great videos and online tutorials on how to do this without an external mixer
an audio interface would be the best and easiest option. You would have to use xlr microphones, and get an interface that has greater than 1 port, or as many as you need.
Pat - always great to see your content. You are a great example of a creator who has his head and heart in the right place. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us
Hi 👋🏾Pat!!! Can you make a vid for multiple mic users in a podcast show. Would I need extra equipment? Btw you are doing a great job! I also listen to your SPI podcast! I appreciate you! 😝
Hi Lynelle, there's any new piece of gear called the RodeCaster Pro by Rode that would be a perfect fit for you. I to want setup to have multiple mics for several guest. This item is great for podcasters and is relatively inexpensive, about $600.00. But it will be well worth the money. I currently have one on back order. Hope this helps!!
Is possible on a Mac very easily without any extra equipment (probably on a pc too but I’m not familiar)-you just plug in two usb mics and make an aggregate audio device in preferences. I won’t explain it all here because there are peeps out there doing so in a much clearer fashion. Search UA-cam or the web and there are plenty of great tutorials. It is surprisingly easy
Use Zoom or Zencastr. Or just do it over the phone, assuming you both have separate recorders / mics. You’ll have to sync the audio in post, but people will think you’re in the same room!
Pat this is all is great but please don't recommend the MY-420 Studio Microphone Shock Mount. It scratched my brand new microphone. I recommend you remove it from your list.
Legally, that is a big no go. I wouldn't record interviews because if the applicant makes a complaint you would have to provide them any and all information.
Can I do this for gaming voice overs? I have a cheapo Neewer condenser mic for 40 comes with stand shock mount pop filter and ever phantom power. Though the mic sounds webcam quality. I wanted a mic for podcast and also gaming.
Hi Pat - thank you for sharing this - I have been listening to your podcasts for some time as I drive between my tearoom locations and find them really inspiring. So much so I want to create my own podcast and came across this video when I started to look in to how to get started. Just wanted to say a BIG thank you for all you are doing to help small business.
stylistmatt if you’re just podcasting on it, the air will work just fine! Once you start getting into heavier software is when the pro comes in handy. Overall I would recommend getting the pro, however if it’s just for podcasting, the air will suffice :)
hi Pat! we just want to say thank you for the inspiration. a few months ago i had no idea how to podcast or where even to start. although our show is only video at the moment we've used your affiliates make our site, and to host our files. we've used your advice everywhere! thank you so much!

Where should I post podcasts,on UA-cam,or on other social media sites too?
Pat Flynn what do you think of starting with anchor using my phone and cords from Amazon?

Will you explain having two mics and if that's possible in garageband?

- Show Description (with some keywords)
- Podcast Cover art (3,000x3,000 pixels), look at some for inspiration/ideas

I really appreciate you. Its nice to have people like us , moving forward in life willing to reach back and pull others in
Equipment: Headphones, Audio Card, Microphone, and stuff.
Me: Phone and FLStudio
Yeah that's about right
Same here
How's the sound? Good quality? I have FL Studio too, is it a simple software?
You know how to break it down to simple steps, Thank you. Can't wait to see more.
Pat this is all is great but please don't recommend the MY-420 Studio Microphone Shock Mount. It scratched my brand new microphone. I recommend you remove it from your list.
dang that sucks. what mic?
What would you use to record phone call interviews?
Legally, that is a big no go. I wouldn't record interviews because if the applicant makes a complaint you would have to provide them any and all information.
@@XGR76 I don't believe he means those types of interviews. I believe he's speaking of podcast interviews. :)
I have the same question
very clear and steps to decide if this is something I may do. TY
What about multiple mics?
An preamp with multiple inputs like the Presonus Preamp would work.
Thank you for sharing this info. I'm getting started with a podcast. This is helpful. I'm heading over to your next video now.
Can I do this for gaming voice overs? I have a cheapo Neewer condenser mic for 40 comes with stand shock mount pop filter and ever phantom power. Though the mic sounds webcam quality. I wanted a mic for podcast and also gaming.
You sure can. When you edit your gaming videos all you do is add your recorded voice as another audio source. Works great!
Hi Pat - thank you for sharing this - I have been listening to your podcasts for some time as I drive between my tearoom locations and find them really inspiring. So much so I want to create my own podcast and came across this video when I started to look in to how to get started. Just wanted to say a BIG thank you for all you are doing to help small business.
good luck on your podcast!
I want to combine UA-cam live, Facebook live with my podcast. Is it doable? And what's the deal with periscope?
Very simple and easy to understand. Thanks!
Would a MacBook Air work well for podcasting or should I make sure to get the pro?
stylistmatt if you’re just podcasting on it, the air will work just fine!

I want to make a JRE type podcast
Very clean and simple video..great job!
He confused pop filter and windscreen (pop filter is the circular thing he led up) there have different aims but at this level there very similar
Thanks Pat, very informative. I look forward to watching more of your videos!
So I actually want to know "what is podcasting" ?!!!
Haha I understand your question. A podcast is like a radio show, except it's prerecorded and people can stream (or download) at any time
I thought it was casting pods
