      Good luck on the job! It’s really a great place to live and there’s only one state in the US that has lower property taxes than Alabama. Cost of living is affordable and the weather stays warms most of the year

      Thanks for the comment. I would recommend looking into the schools of interest at our city and county school board websites. They will have the insight you're probably looking for. We think the schools are great and both went to schools here. However, that is kind of a subjective to personal expectations and tastes. Here's the county link: www.tcss.net Here's the city link: www.tuscaloosacityschools.com/board

    Have any houses out there for rent?

    Unfortunately, T-town caters totally to the student population. As a former transplant (from Vermont, no less), it was practically impossible to find an affordable, DECENT apartment for someone recently hired by the University. The first two years I had to deal with drug dealers in my apartment complex, which I finally escaped to a somewhat better situation, but still not ideal apartment on a busy road with no shade. It is NOT affordable for renters, unless Mommy and Daddy are footing the bill. Don't let all the "luxury apartment" signs fool you. Those are reserved for students. You'll be lucky to find something that is updated post 1960's. Sad... Also, the truck traffic is deplorable both in-town and on the highway to Birmingham and beyond. Poor development planning, especially since the 2011 tornado. It's all fast food joints and student housing. However, if you can't afford cable or streaming, it's great if you like ABC! You can get that network channel about four times without an antenna...just nothing else. I know...I lived there for seven years. Couldn't wait to move elsewhere. BTW, there are decent people living there, just be careful when they tell you, "bless your heart," it is NOT them showing empathy.

    I’m a potential transfer student to the university of Alabama. My only concern is the diversity. Is it safe for a young black man?

      Thanks for the question, Z. I would recommend looking into the crime statistics from the local police or sheriff websites. I think that is subjective and only you could make that decision. However, we do have a lot of diversity and people of all walks of faith and ethnicity.

      Hey Z, do you still feel good about it diversity wise? That was actually the one word I was hoping to hear from them in this video and them recommending you look at crime rates didn’t give me the warm and fluffy in the least. I know what you were asking so as a black woman, I’m now asking YOU, how you feel about the area?👀

    Love the video. My wife and I have traveled all the way down there from North Dakota the last 4 straight years for a football game. Planning going again this fall. Love the Tide and the town. We just started to throw around the idea of buying a cheaper condo within a mile of the stadium to stay at when we go to games and possibly rent out when we aren't there.
    Do you guys know of anyone from out of state that does something like this successfully? Not looking to make a bunch of money off it. Just help cover some of the costs. Is there management companies in town that do nightly/weekly rentals Airbnb style?
    We haven't looked to seriously yet but we came across Harbrooke Downs Condos. Very small but very cheap and honestly all we would need. Are you familiar with that area?

    • @phildukejr
      @phildukejr 2 роки тому +1

      We have a relationship with a company that specializes in gameday rentals. They'll rent it out, get it cleaned up, talk to the tenants, etc in exchange for 25% of the rental fee. We have people here who are able to pay their whole 12 month mortgage payments just by renting them out for the 7 or 8 gameday weekends. You'd probably want to also rent it out on AirBNB or VRBO because there's a big market for that as well. Parents are constantly coming in to visit their kids or go on campus tours, you have graduation weekends, etc. It can definitely be a money maker!

      @@phildukejr Interesting. Thanks for the response! I really appreciate it. My wife and I are just starting to kick around this idea. Obviously with us living across the country we would need to find someone to manage it completely for us. When we come down again this fall we may interested in looking into some places checking it out more seriously. Are you at all familiar with those Harbrooke Downs Condos? Seems like they're all just little 2 bed 1 baths that are very reasonably priced and about a mile from the stadium. Perfect for what we'd but looking for. But again we haven't dug too deep into this

    I’ve lived in Tuscaloosa for 5 years now. And I attended the university for 4 years. Honestly Tuscaloosa is awful. Outside of the university campus, there is no where to walk, nothing to do, and there is not good food. If you like McDonald’s, racism, and driving 30 minutes on the worst roads you’ve seen to do ANYTHING then it’s the place for you. I cannot wait to get as far away from this place as I can. 3/10 MIGHT come back for a football game.

      I didn’t even mention the crime. It’s almost completely unreported, after growing up in Atlanta I’ve seen more gun violence and murder in Tuscaloosa than I did anywhere near Atlanta. The police are useless. The housing sucks. The people are rude. I also worked at dreamland bbq and it’s some of the worst bbq I’ve ever eaten in my life.

      The public schools in the area are some of the lowest rated in the state and the state of Alabama is one of the lowest rated states for education in the United States. I cannot name one thing about Tuscaloosa that is above average outside of the university
