- The final dash to the checkered was far from a joyride for Earnhardt. He narrowly missed the spinning car of Jeff Burton right after taking the lead on Lap 133, an accident that triggered the only caution period of the race.
Earnhardt’s victory was the biggest of his Hall of Fame career to that point, surpassed only by his emotional sole win in the Daytona 500 in 1998. But he couldn’t resist a playful jab after his Brickyard victory at his archrival and inaugural Brickyard winner Gordon, whom Earnhardt often called a “boy” because Gordon was 20 years younger than him.
“I’m glad I’m the second man to have won, if not the first,” Earnhardt said. “We really appreciate it. NASCAR is happy to be here.” - Спорт

When you win at Daytona your considered great then when you win at Indy you're considered the best then when you win at both Your considered the GOAT

Well, yes. To be great, you need to win crown jewel races. Chase won’t be great until he wins a crown jewel race. Neither will some of the drivers who have never won crown jewel races. I think Logano has 0 crown jewel wins.

Is incredible to see how Dale Earnhardt Sr. was so loved by North American racing fans, such as Ayrton Senna was so loved over here in Brazil.
When you consider they were so similar to each other it makes since. Arguably the best to do it in each of their respective racing series. Multi time champions, winners of the biggest races and they both died in tragic accidents.
@@Jeff.3 And Earnhardt respected the hell out of Senna, to the point that when Senna died, Earnhardt made sure to mention his family in Victory Lane that afternoon.
@BrianSmith-ct3kh earnhardt was a class act. Not just for that but when Davey died the year before, he mentioned him in victory lane. And at the end of the season when he won his 6th championship, he did a polish victory lap with rusty Wallace. They carried Davey and Alan kulwickis flag.
@@BrianSmith-ct3kh yep. Dale wasn't just a nascar guy. He loved all motorsports. And he was one of the guys who would watch F1 grands prix before racing themselves later on in nascar that day. So it wasn't just being polite that he mentioned Senna and sent his prayers to his family, he was actually a big fan of his too so it hurt for him to see Senna die tragically, too.
I can just imagine they're go-kart racing together in heaven somewhere.

I was in turn 4. It rained all freaking day. We were in a bar pretty much the whole day waiting for them to delay it till Monday. Then all over the radio and TV they announced the track was almost dry. Talk about a mad dash back to IMS. Traffic was so bad we got to our seats on Lap 20 or so. If there would have been more cautions I'm pretty sure it would have gotten suspended because of darkness. I wasn't an Earnhardt fan but it was pretty neat seeing him win the 2nd annual.
I'm not sure if it would have been postponed had there been more than the one caution that fell, but had there been six or seven cautions, it likely would have been shortened. But even after that long 4 and a half hour delay, getting in the required 80 or 81 laps to make it an official race would not have been difficult, even if a few cautions came in the first half of the race. But what everyone worried about, antsy drivers causing a major wreck (like what happened at Indy in 1973 after a rain delay of a similar length), obviously didn't happen, as only a minor spin by Jeff Burton after the final pit stops kept this from being the only caution-free race in IMS history.
I was there infield back straight I was even there the controversy tracy / Castroneves in 500 in bleachers in the short shute between 3and 4 still think to this day tracy passed him before caution came out many 500s and 400s I've been to second home :)

Now when you see that many people today at Indianapolis its the INDY 500 though not so much cause of the pandemic
First 2 winners of the Brickyard 400 were the 2 drivers who dominated Cup racing in the 90's, Jeff Gordon & Dale Earnhardt.

I was there that day, and what a special memory, to have witnessed he legendary Dale Earnhardt win at the world's most famous motor speedway.
Any of you who are NASCAR fans watching this, RCR revealed the 31 car's throwback scheme today, it's Neil Bonnet's 31 car from 1993 at Talladega. Austin Dillon's throwback has yet to be named, who wants to bet it's gonna be a Goodwrench Chevy painted like Dale Sr's...

Have anyone ever noticed the way Earnhardt would exit his car leg first, most drivers pull up and sit on the door.
He was somewhat tall at 6’1”, so getting out probably was easier that way.
Earnhardt was still as good as he ever was in '95 in my opinion not only winning an IROC championship but his first at Sonoma and Indy. He lost the points race to Gordon, but only by about 34 pts. Could have gone either way. Clearly he did not start to fade until the Talladega crash in '96, that was clearly when he was not the same driver.
Injuries set him back and he put off neck surgery. 99/00 were true earnhardt seasons
@@fatpatlives1998 somewhat disagree. He had solid years in '99 and 2000 and resurged somewhat, but that wasn't quite prime Earnhardt. Though he finished second in the points in 2000, he just had two wins. He nearly won Pocono, but I'd say the old Dale would have held off Jeremy Mayfield and won that race. The Dale Earnhardt of old probably notches at least two more wins that year and wins the championship easily. He also used to be way better on short tracks, late in his career he was mostly winning at restrictor plate tracks. But that just goes to show how great he was in his prime, that even as a shadow of himself he was still one of the best out there.
@@joshlight6892 he was dominating the spring race when he got took out by a lap car . 2 of his last 6 wins came at Atlanta and Bristol. Mayfield had newer tires from what I recall cause if they was on even tire there's no way Mayfield would have done what he did. He had a shot to win Martinsville in 99 until a late caution allowed Gordon to win on old tires. He was running way better than he did in 97/98 I think 01 would have been another solid year if he didn't win the title.
They need to bring back that low camera angle coming out of 2.

Dale Earnhardt's win at the Brickyard was probably his most impressive win. His win at the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte in 1993 was his second most impressive win.
