Most creatives do not know how to sell, or about business/marketing or how money making works. Once they understand how that side of life works, and combine with their talents, great things start happening. Learn about sales, business and marketing everyone!
100% - people often think the market is too saturated when the reality is that the market is full of proof that ideas will work. The trick is to learn some fundamental marketing skills. You can learn the basics in a few weeks and see results. Mastering it is a whole different story.
In response to the "writer's block" segment: I was a screenwriter for 10 years. I often found that whenever I had writer's block, it was because I hadn't done enough research and development. The story already exists, you just have to find it. And the best way to find it is by profiling my characters so extensively that every story beat is predicated on what each character would do/say in any given situation. Hopefully my fellow designers/marketers on here can correlate that analogy to the process of on-boarding clients.

Also this has come at a very relevant time for me. I have less than 6 months to go from almost completely broke to being able to support myself financially while also dealing with depression and anxiety and I feel like I'm drowning. Having a really, really hard time finding motivation, but this has helped at least a bit. I need to digest it longer but it's definitely giving me some hope to hear how dire things were for Dustin when he turned it all around. Hoping this is my rock-bottom.
Flexing the creative muscles really helped me with my anxiety - such a naturally engaging profession which can distract us from any ruminating thoughts makes us pretty lucky in my opinion. Once you jump down the marketing rabbit-hole on top of the regular design process the notebooks fill up fast! Good luck.
I hope you've seen some success! You can do it. The hard part is not the idea or the marketing. The hard part is beating your imposter syndrome into submission so you can actually do the work.

I would add one comment to folks hoping to successfully sell on sites like Creative Market, etc.: use good keywords so people can find your products!! If you include various items in your pack, make sure people can find your pack for perhaps that one item they are looking for. I was looking for tables in mockup scenes and could not bring anything specific up in search, but obviously saw tables if I combed through packs. I don't have time to do that, so make it easy for us with better keywords. Then the obvious: add keywords for the name of your pack and possible variations, YOUR NAME, etc. I can't tell you how often I've seen someone's great work somewhere, and when I went to find them on these sites, I couldn't produce them with a search of simple things like their name!! If people can't find you and your work, they aren't buying from you and you're losing money!
1:00:00 You can also use OBS Studio to screen record, or stream, your work process. It streams to Twitch, UA-cam and Facebook (I think), but you can also record locally, edit, and then upload.

Best of luck! Don't forget it often takes a good number of attempts to find what works. But I've found that most people that stick with it find something that works well for them.
Great tip. I didn't even know that. Camtasia does have a lot of added features (transitions, zooms, notations, etc) that make it a time saver but I haven't checked out the built-in screen recorder yet. Thanks for pointing this out!
yes! good reminder. sometimes we forget about the tools we already have. Camtasia and Screen Flow are dedicated tools with some really neat features that QT won't deliver.
Adding on to this, Windows 10 also does screen recording (windows key + g). Pick up a free copy of Davinci Resolve 15 for editing and you're good to go.

1:00:00 You can also use OBS Studio to screen record, or stream, your work process. It streams to Twitch, UA-cam and Facebook (I think), but you can also record locally, edit, and then upload.
WOOT for Vancouver, WA!
Great episode! I was a littlle critical of the ""Secret of Success" episode. This one, tho only 15 minutes shorter, delivered nuggets all the way thru!
What an insightful, meaningful interaction. Loved it.
Just amazing
this video is pure gold! thank you guys! I needed something like this.
Thank you
probably one of the most useful videos you've made! Thank you! Have been thinking about selling digital products for while now.. this might be the kick in the butt I needed!

Love the story here and the golden nuggets of insights.
Very inspiring journey expressed here.
thanks Riley.
I got so excited when you mentioned Edvill because I'm venezuelan and I got the chance to go to one of his workshops, and to see his work being noticed internationally makes me so proud! Anyways, thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it and learned a lot of stuff I hadn't really thought of before. Keep up the good work!
This is gold! Thank you guys so much!
Fantastic episode!
This is so inspiring. 2019 will be the year I move into more passive income.
His story is exactly where I’m at right now, graphic designer working as a banker.....uncanny

This was such a powerful webinar.
I love the summary at he end. Haha if Chris actually rights this way in his books I would totally pick them up and read them. Very engaging episode, left me with a lot of insight on passive income in Design.
Thank you.
That was a great summary at the end. It was hilarious that he came up with that so quickly.
Wow wow wow perfect timing, I was just reading the HMRC website about starting a private limited company. Aiming for that passive income!
Thanks for listening!
This is a gold mine of info!
I love this I’m working on my product right now.
Best of luck! Don't forget it often takes a good number of attempts to find what works. But I've found that most people that stick with it find something that works well for them.
Loved this so mcuh! Thanks a lot. It gave me great ideas to solve my current problem :D

Thanks! Always good content here :)
Brilliant video. Love listening to these videos whilst at work. Really inspires me!
Great video!
Great video! In case of screenrecording: MacOS Mojave now has built-in screen recording capabilities, no need for other software!
Pick up a free copy of Davinci Resolve 15 for editing and you're good to go.
awesome
very Inspirational :)
I love this one!
Awesome video
Another great video !! thank so much for the stuff. SoOOOooooOOO many great nuggets!
