Great DIY. I found it helpful to buy a 1/4" E-torx (10) to unbolt the PCV -- the 1.4 size takes up less room than the 3.8 and space is at a premium back there.
@jamesogara2219 Was your CCV/PCV also hard also to remove? Here he had to soak overnight with penetrating oil. I have read many think that this valve should be a regular replacement item.
Hi. I replaced this part but consumption is still there. the pre om642 has a seperate oil seperator. I’m not sure if that’s the fix to about me consumption. When I remove the ccv hose at the turbo and rev it it doesn’t blow any oil

I got it sorted. I have a 2014 egr dpf def delete remap straight pipe engine is running fine no codes, sometimes when I'm at a stop or very slow traffic exhaust is pouring gray blue smoke, nothing when I'm cruising or little black coal smoke on load.

I would like to know if you fixed the oil consumption. I have the other style of PCV valve, replaced it twice already and still getting oil into the turbo inlet. I was recommended to use a ticker oil, I’m probably going to switch to 15w40. As well as reinstalling the oil catch can.

Have a little over a month if driving on my 07 gl320 after spending a month doing the oil cooler seals and replacing the timing chain. The majority of the time was spent scrapping out the sludge from the intake ports, I also removed the swirl flaps. The amount of sludge in the intake manifolds was ridiculous. Removed the intercooler also and washed and cleaned everything like Brand new.installed a provent 200iv. Just noticed a little oil on the floor front Rt from what I think is from the oil that built up in the line and bottom of the provent. Didn’t put a clamp on the drain line.was checking for oil in drain line for a couple of weeks but nothing. Now after draining it and a couple days later it has about 3 inches of oil back in the drain line. Can’t tell you how disappointed I am with seeing oil back in the inner cooler hoses after spending countless Hours washing and flushing everything
I changed my pcv valve when I had the valve cover off. Not so sure I could have gotten it out due to the o ring so hard and baked on.turns out the Diaphragm is just a seal that slips over the end of the cam to vent out threw this what is basically a 90 deg elbow.
Yeah pre lubing it the night before then a few taps with a rubber mallet did it for me. I've changed the pcv. Turbo and re Installed the catch can. Oil Consumption is way down. I'm going to flush the engine as there's still oil bring burnt I imagine the oil rings are also leaking. Nightmare of a truck
@@SomethingonSodom ya I think all these newer EGR Diesels are no matter what make. Diesels were reliable before they added al the emissions crap. On the flip side they sure don’t smell and are pretty darn quiet.
Went to Air venture in Oshkosh Wi a week ago with a couple of my boys. Had to laugh at the Continental Engine display were they were showing off the diesel aircraft engines that run on jet fuel. Low a behold they use the om642 in 6 cyl and 3 cyl versions. Heads look identical but they run a different intake, a simple welded tube intake and twin turbos on the 6 cyl and no emission BS.
Great video. Did this fix your oil consumption? Have a W164 with the OM642 with the old style PCV valve. Never had any oil consumption and replaced last year the PCV valve just as a preventative maintenance.
I dont know if you can compare sprinter om642 to the one used in suv’s and cars. Sprinters take almost 14qt of oil and GL uses like 8qt of oil. Lubrication is the key for engine longevity

I ended up having to replace the turbo. bad turbo seals. still a good idea to change pcv valve as it does let the turbo suck oil from the crank case if they are worn out.
@@aslanmammadov2230 I always thought it was the turbo. Like you said that's a lot of oil. You have to start changing the cheapest parts first. We just did a 1000L no consumption. Appears to be fixed.

I had a shop take care of the turbo for me. I dont believe you can change the turbo seals. I got an aftermarket turbo installed for 2500$ CAD with one year warranty.
@@aslanmammadov2230 light blue smoke on start up. but it goes away. when I step on it i get tons of black smoke but I also dont have a DPF and I think the tune that is on this MB is junk. I might get the fuel remapped because it smokes bad. The oil consumption is gone though
Great video, thanks . I have a w211 OM642 and did the orange turbo seals in lockdown. The main turbo seal is fine but the one leading to PCV valve ( the small one) keeps pushing itself out causing a tiny oil leak. I have wrapped Tesa heat proof tape around the join and applied a releasable cable tie. It has worked and I am pleased because I dont have to buy a new seal kit :-) Do you think that is a good idea for the time being ?

I failed to mention I haven’t had an oil consumption issue on this with 160,000 miles. I typically run 15-40 or 20-50 ful synthetic oil.Currently running Amsoil 15-40 heavy duty diesel and marine.
@@SomethingonSodom Engine seems to run smoother on the higher viscosity oils but mainly because it has zinc and Molybdenum that has been mandated out of newer oils post 07 oils. Look at all the premature timing chain issues we have today on all makes. Zinc is needed for metal to metal contact. Look up and read the article by Stevens Service a 30 + year Mercedes mechanic in California.
Yeah, these vehicles are "Avoid at all costs" unless you can do ALL the work yourself and kind of "enjoy doing it". I will be doing same steps, one at the time. Can anyone recommend any additives which ACTUALLY help to free piston rings?
@@sergey_sovetsky yes I'll be doing a video but as a last resort to try and free up oil rings I flushed the motor. I believe I dislodged some sludge at the main bearing. It started "ticking " sounded like valves to be honest. Then it went away. 3 weeks later it threw a rod. Previous owners must have not changed oil much.

There's a Sprinter shop in Colorado that works on these V6 engines and they said they were able to fix lots of om642 engines with this product. Call him and ask - Dennis from linden engineering from Colorado. I've personally used their bg245 product with great results. Local MB dealer says that BG is what they use cuz it works. Try it - you've got nothing to lose
I've seen two types of oil separator housings, one that is simply a 90 degree adapter that holds the rubber separator seal, and another that also holds a spring loaded rubber diaphragm that is supposed to "suck closed" when the turbo is pulling a lot of vacuum, so it doesn't simply pull oil vapor into the engine. The guy in this video ua-cam.com/video/IoMXqaBMO6k/v-deo.html has the housing that doesn't seem to have the spring-loaded diaphragm, and he's tried several things, finally he routed the PCV line to the unfiltered side of the air filter housing. I think that may the best solution since oil and EGR gases form the tar that clogs up your intake runners and swirl flaps, and changing an air filter a little more often is a better price to pay. You just need to figure out how to fool the PCV sensor/valve where it connects to the current location.

It was still consuming oil at an alarming rate. Replaced turbo charger. No change. Flushed motor... well check out my recent video LOL - Lemon.

The rings were toast in my motor. It threw a rod a few weeks ago. It's gone. We bought a lemon it seems .

I thought about putting an oil catch can in my w164 ml 320 cdi not any more THANKS . I'll just replace the PCV valve .
start with a PCV valve. CCs are a good option depending. overall they do help keep the intake clean.

Yes turbo is sucking oil from crank case. Usually dpf fills up and causes a ton of issues

I think 4 liters per 1000 km does not sound like a pcv valve lol. I might have valve seal issues as well.
