They looked him dead in the eyes and said “we don’t joke here. My dad said he’d never been so scared as that day. He explained that he used strong medication. They have him one week and then he would have to come back. He googled all his medications and turned out one of the medications had a substance that many airports have picked up as heroin. He immediately stopped using that and he was cleared. 🙏🏼
The guy that took apart the laptop screen should get a raise. He was able to properly open it without breaking it. Edit: I take back what I said. Yeah he took it apart correctly but what if he didn't and broke it? Also now that I think about it I wouldn't like it if customs took apart my laptop just because they "think" there's something hidden inside. Not to mention all laptops are built differently and it seems strange that he just happened to know how to take apart _this_ laptop screen and with little effort because now after having repaired screens in several laptops I've learned that they're not something you can just take apart and put back together like its no big deal.

Where I live people who sell illegally are charging a minimum of £5 a pack. Close to half price for most brands. 3580 packs at £5 each is £17'900. There's no chance they paid £13'900 for that many cigs so £2000 profit each is waaaaaay too low an estimate

Honestly, when I traveled from St. Louis to Dublin and we finally landed, I went to the bathroom to change clothes, wipe my face and body off, and brush my teeth. I wanted to freshen up after sleeping on a plane for hours so I didn't feel like scum when I spoke to customs officers. I don't think the lady changing clothes is so abnormal. I've had the medication problem, I was doing a drug test for a job I really wanted and when I hadn't heard back I was worried. One of the medications I take I had researched and it can cause positives for illegal drugs. I even called and told the employer I was so worried and that I will be happy to have my Dr. verify that the traces were from the proscribed medication. Thankfully it has never cause issues with security and the drug test didn't pick it up, probably because I take a low dose but the concern is still there.

it happened to my friends dad last year when they visited the US. first they took off the screen, and when the didn’t find enything they screwed the whole keyboard apart, still finding nothing. Bordarcontrol then gave them a little plastic bag to carry the parts in. Luckily the dad works with computers so he could fix it himself.

Where I live people who sell illegally are charging a minimum of £5 a pack. Close to half price for most brands. 3580 packs at £5 each is £17'900. There's no chance they paid £13'900 for that many cigs so £2000 profit each is waaaaaay too low an estimate

It’s quiet natural, in airports you can be used as a mule without your knowledge and customs will never look deeper into, they’re just in for a quick bust. Word of advice always keep your eyes on your belongings, never ever accept a gift or anything to bring back with you.

Honestly, when I traveled from St. Louis to Dublin and we finally landed, I went to the bathroom to change clothes, wipe my face and body off, and brush my teeth. I've had the medication problem, I was doing a drug test for a job I really wanted and when I hadn't heard back I was worried. One of the medications I take I had researched and it can cause positives for illegal drugs. I even called and told the employer I was so worried and that I will be happy to have my Dr. verify that the traces were from the proscribed medication. Thankfully it has never cause issues with security and the drug test didn't pick it up, probably because I take a low dose but the concern is still there.

@markylon yes, but what I mean is that their suspicions/xrays were wrong. As in it turned out not to be dodgey after they took it apart.
I know the chances of that happening are near to nonexistent, but it was just a theoretical situation made up for a bit of fun.
it happened to my friends dad last year when they visited the US. first they took off the screen, and when the didn’t find enything they screwed the whole keyboard apart, still finding nothing. Bordarcontrol then gave them a little plastic bag to carry the parts in. Luckily the dad works with computers so he could fix it himself.

I was pulled aside at customs for looking suspicious. Their "tip off", was that I was using an old school WalkMan in the age of mp3s, iPods, and smartphones. At the time it was stressful, but I can laugh now.
