- For those that want to jump right to the final design, this is for you. I realize that it is going to take me a long time to get the machine finished and videos published. Some of you are working on your own designs and just need the brought brush strokes. This video is a walk through of the final design using Fusion 360. At the end there are some exploded parts animations also.
There is another benefit more for me and that is to get your feedback before I am 100% committed. More than once I have put a video out just to get a great suggestion from someone that I wish I had had earlier.
Enjoy ~P
For another build of the same size using a different approach, check out the channel Making It.

Nice! Can't wait to see it in action. Thanks for the link back to my build.
NP. I got the gantry assembled over the weekend. I can almost see the end of the tunnel. If it is anything like my router, it will go through some changes before it is all done. ~P
Excellent explanation thanks for the ideas Liked the linear bearings from last video
Thanks for your hard work
Andrew
Great stuff, I can't wait to see more. Thanks for sharing :)
Colin f2f Thanks. I'm excited to finish it up this fall. I have a car project that could sure use it. -P
Thank you for your videos! Been looking for such tutorials on UA-cam for about a week. Now, I finally came upon valuable information on how to start building a CNC plasma cutting machine. It is greatly appreciated! It helps a lot. If you can reference some other channels or videos, that are really helpful, I would greatly appreciated it. Thank you.
I'm glad you have found the content of value. I had a watch list, but find in reviewing it, that about 1/2 of the videos I had saved, are now marked private. So I really don't have anything specific. I continue to watch videos being published today, looking for new ideas that I may want to implement. Of these, no single channel comes to mind. I'd suggest you watch all that you can tolerate. One of the things I found was that even the same design, could be implemented using different tools and levels of precision. That alone can be helpful. Good luck in your design. ~P
The best channel on UA-cam! Keep it up.
Wow, thanks!
I must have missed the window to view your design in Fusion360. What is there now is incomplete shows X and Y mounting plates only no design. Any chance you will share your design again?
Hi Sorry i just started watching. what are the dimensions of table. Im gonna build a 4x8 but your measurements would help. your doing water table? And what size is v bearing?
That table will be 4x4 and I will be doing a water table. The bearings can be found in the links in the description. I don't remember the size designation. Sorry. ~P
Well, how did it turn out? I'm curious to see it in action?
Well, here it is June already and I just sat back down to figure out where I left off in editing videos. Seems I hadn't gotten far. The short answer is that it is about 80% done so I haven't even run it yet. I am super excited for the day, but my 'real' job has ballooned to crazy proportion. If you follow sbirdranch on instagram you will know that I am constantly posting picture of wing tips of the planes I seem to be on all the time.....
I have a bunch of videos started and now I need to make time to push some out. Just thought you'd like to know. ~P
Did you forget the link to the fusion 360 drawing or did I miss it?
It is on my web site, sbirdranch.com, but here it is to save you clicking around: a360.co/2IBatgK
Thanks I didn't realize you had a website, now have it in my favorites. Thanks!
I have built a plasma table that uses the same motors and I believe the same screws and linear rails as your original router table. My question is how fast can you run your router table in inches per minute. I have only been able to run mine at 75 ipm. Is there is motor tuning that I can do to speed it up? I am hoping that my screws are not to fine thread and able to go any faster. Any help would be great. I have ran it faster but it seems to stop moving but motors sound like they are still running like it is binding up. I checked and no binding.
My router table maxes out at about the same. I was told once that it was the motor bouncing on it self and that if they had a flywheel on them it would reduce the issue. I have never needed to go that fast while cutting so I gave it no further thought. Again this is only specific to the router.
+sbirdranch I haven't actually started cutting with the torch yet. After watching some others on UA-cam, they look like they are moving really quick on thin gauge metal. Maybe the torch can be turned down to a low amp and cut slow on thin gauge. Speed is not a priority for me. I just want to be able to cut all thickness. My Hypertherm says it is rated for 5/8 at 20 ipm but I'm not sure how that equates down to something like 16 ga. Thanks for the insight. I bought a lot of my parts after watching your videos on the router and kind of followed your design a little as far as motors, drivers, rails, and screws. I have a couple other questions if you don't mind me asking? I will post a video on my UA-cam in a day or 2 for you to check out. Thanks again!
Great information, I suggest if you could be more consistent with the original title on all your videos. "DIY CNC Plasma Table - Episode 1" DIY CNC Plasma Table - Episode 2...and so on, you will get more views. and easy to follow up. I had to come to your channel to see the other videos. Thank you for your information.
The Fusion 360 file is not downloadable, could you please share the file?
i have a feeling you wont want that gearbox due to backlash. I would say your 2 to 1 will be better!
The reason I went with the planetary gear was that they have very very little backlash. In fact, I cannot, by hand find any lash. Honestly, I am more concerned about the mass it imparts to the gantry that has to be moved. I bet I try it without the gear box just to test resolution. Thanks for the comment. ~P
Updates? Like to see torch mounting and electronics and it’s foot print
They are coming. I just got the torch mounted and most of the electronics complete. I am reusing the drivers and power/control components from my CNC Router. You will need to check out my router overview video for that. Sorry for the delay. ~P
Where's the links to where you got the pulleys, belts , vbearings etc?
I added links to the video comments. Some things came from Ebay, and some from Amazon. I should add those links to my sight as well. ~P
Jeff G links to the parts lists are in the video description. Some came from eBay and some from amazon.
Woops...i already replied to this. Duh me.
Do you have the dimensions?
can use for router sir ?
No. The belt and bearing design won't hold a side load cutter like a router bit.
how do i download the files
I cant find the option in fusion web
I'm sorry, but changes made by Fusion360 have probably made them unavailable. I'll check and see if I can put them out another way. ~P
@@sbirdranch ok thank you so much!
