I’m currently in nursing school and did not have any medical experience prior. So if you’re looking into nursing school and get discouraged reading the comments that say to become a CNA first, don’t! Don’t change the path you want to go down. Don’t get nervous. Don’t rethink the career. Majority of the people in my class do not have medical experience and they’re doing fine! And I am too! After a couple of clinical rotations you begin to feel more comfortable! It’s nothing you can’t do just because you don’t have experience.
Sorry but being in the medical field prior to becoming an RN. I was a CNA for 4 years. It is EXTREMELY VITAL you have somewhat of a medical background regardless prior to becoming an RN. This is a very BIASED comment you put here.
I suggest being a nursing aide before going to nursing school. I am a state tested nurse aide in Ohio and work in a surgical stepdown unit and am about to start RN school. All of these tips ( as great as they are, when I first started nurse aide clinicals I wish I watched this) were things I have already mastered. If you truely are nervous, even try to voulenteer at an old folks home. Any experience will prep you for when the patient is 100% your responsibility as an RN.
Exactly what I am doing now. Studying my general classes a head of time at community college. And now, I am studying CNA. Doing it in the weekend class.
Just started my first semester of nursing school. Around 70-80% of the class has some sort of medical job experience already. In Clinicals I feel so lost because I’m the only one in the group who hasn’t been a CNA. They already know all the lingo and exactly what they are doing so I just feel so awkward and stupid all the time. :(
Clinical tip from me, be a CNA first! It'll make you feel so much better, I had to do 50hrs of clinical and 120hrs of instruction to be a CNA. So when it's time for your RN clinical, you'll be less nervous because you've already dealt with people.
Some programs consider being a CNA a prerequisite! Which is so helpful for being a nursing student and also when you work alongside CNA when you finally work as a RN. Such a better dynamic.
Thank you for this video. I am definitely the nervous type no matter what the situation is and my first clinical is this November/December. This video is definitely a boost up! Thanks a lot! :D
I think most if not all the schools around me have the students do clinicals at a nursing home first to make us feel more comfortable in the nurse/nursing student role.
@@belle3055 very stressful lots of blood sweat and tears breakdowns but now I’m so close so I just have to take it one day at a time and I’ll be there . Its been a long journey but I believe definitely worth it . It’s going well wbu
Just discovered your channel and I'm about to binge watch! I'm about to start my second semester and clinicals. I hope my experience working in long term care and hospitals will be beneficial, even though I'll be playing a different role now.
Gosh you are clearly such a beautiful, genuine soul! Such a breath of fresh air! I was searching for some advice because i am looking to go to nursing school and so i stumbled upon your videos which are just nothing but good, positive vibes. You are one of the very few people I've ever see in my life who comes off as genuine. The way you speak about what's bothering you, how your day has been, that you're "not just a nurse", your honesty is refreshing. If you wouldn't mind i would love it if you could help me pick a nursing school or just answer some questions for me if you have the time. feel free to message me if so, thankyou for being you and making your relatable videos, its always appreciated !
Awe thanks so much for this video! It helped me a lot! Hahaha I start nursing school next week and I feel much better now after watching your videos all weekend! Hope you have a fantastic semester!
i passed out on my very first day in clinic..right at the patients bed...after i came back to my senses they didnt send me home... i got over it..and I passed all my exams last week!!! yey
I just started my nursing program, I have clinicals 2 weeks from now! I'm very excited. I've decided to try to vlog my way through on youtube and make videos. so we will see how that goes. Great video! I'll keep these this in mind when I go to the hospital.
Thanks girl!! Funny story, I actually didn't really have an interview haha, I was luckily hired by my head nurse, after completing an internship on the unit! I guess my interview was the feedback she got on me and her spying on me during the day haha!
Hellos from Finland. Nice to follow nurse students from other countries also. Interesting to see similarities and all the differences to our education.
Hi! I have all of my prerequisites, except for 2 math classes before I apply to RN school. I am already an LVN, and I have a 3.70 in my sciences (Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology). Math is my big struggle! Even though I got a "B" in pharmacology while attending LVN school. And, that was with tutoring. Can you please, or anyone on your site recommend some websites, apps, etc. to help me get stronger in this area! I have already checked out future math tutoring classes at my college. I am determined to keep on practicing, and keep to be moving forward. My long term goal is a Bachelor's and Master's degree in nursing. Thank you.
hi justine! i love your videos! ❤️ im a nurse too and i love the idea of having the little cheat sheet infront of your binder! did you make that one yourself? if yes would i be able to have it?! its genius!
I'm starting my last clinical at our local hospital for the LPN course in BC and I'm so nervous, we've done 3 prior, 2 in residential care and 1 in community, I'm now terrified and have to go in like now, so thanks for the advice Justine!
Great Video! I graduate in April and have my last clinical this semester and I still get so nervous! haha We think alike, I also talked about being a sponge in my nursing tips for success video! Best of luck to you pretty!
Hi, so I have another (kinda stupid) request about a video. I'd like some advice about dealing with like squeamishness? When I see a pictures or I talk abou it in theory its allright but today, during my clinical in hospital I ,,asisted,, during an operation and I felt nauseated. There was blood everywhere, the organs were bloated.. I just, I'm seriously thinking again about the nursing school, like I love it, when I was in outpatient section it was all good and then it was all the nasty live and I felt kinda ashamed, because they say people who can't handle it, shouldn't be in the medical field... I still feel uneasy when I'm taking blood or inserting IV.. but I'm a first year so I'm hoping someone will reasure me that I will get used to it. :D Thank you (I said that I just wont quit despite all the studying, this comes :D )
omg don't worry about it! the operating room is a very specific part of nursing and it's definitely not for everyone! I remember feeling quite squeamish when I watched a surgery, and I've heard of many people that felt that way as well, it's completely normal! There are so many different types of nursing and you don't ever have to see the inside of a patient's guts every again if you don't want too! As for bloods and IV's, you will 100% get used to it, it becomes automatic at some point, you don't even think about the blood anymore, all you care about is getting that IV in haha! :)
Thank you! Your assurances always lift my mood! :) when I went home I was like thinking is this worth it? And the next day I helped some patients and they were grateful (it's not always that way) and I was like yes, it's worth it. The warm feeling inside :)
Wow I start clinicals on Monday and you actually really made me feel so much better. Your so calming and relaxing and I’ve literally been having panic attack’s because I’m so nervous. I’m excited and anxious to be done because I love the school and what I’m doing but I’m so nervous and scared for clinicals :( wish me luck please 😭
valentina c you’ll do great!! you probably wont sleep the night beforr your first day, but after a few days you’ll see it’s really nothing to be scared about😘
I appreciate you responding back. M extremely nervous and wanna help me and do a good job but the anxiety is like throwing me off 😩🤦🏻♀️ but thank you again.
for giving medications, she wants me to know the mechanism which i already knew. but she wants me to know the lab results of the patient which i ddnt expect to know. in my first clinical experience :(
Love your videos as I'm about to start my first clinical placement! I'm from UK so it may be slightly different but what do you do with regards to your nose piercing? Are they allowed where you are or do you wear a retainer?
Hi! :) So, I am a first year nursing student and I'll be starting clinicals this semester. I noticed your nose is pierced, what do you do during clinicals? Did you take it out or put in a spacer? I recently got mine pierced and bought a clear spacer for mine, but I'm interested to hear what you did, or if piercings were allowed!
I am in UK and I studying sciences and medicine histology histopathology cytology forensic pathology diagnostic medicine biomedical bone sciences ect and neuropathology
Quebec always has to be different from everyone haha, after high school we go to CEGEP, which is in between HS and university, and that can either be 2 or 3 years. If you do a 2 year science program then nursing in uni is 3 years and if you do a 3 year nursing program (like I did) then your nursing bachelor in uni is 2 years! Hope that answered your question! xo
Justine G.Feather I have a question. So you can get an associates in nursing, and they could get a job as a RN. What is the purpose for a bachelors? Every nurse says they are going for a bachelors degree. I'm kinda new to this
Andrew Pasion In Quebec a bachelors lets you work in the community as well as in the rest of Canada and around the world :) It's basically the equivalent to nursing degrees eveywhere else! You also make a bit more money :)
I don’t know why people get intimidated of anyone. You’re there for a reason they’re there for a reason. They chose one path and you chose another they aren’t God. Get that out of your head don’t even let a thought like that enter your mind

Robin Lily It is not vital at all. There are loads of nurses and even doctors who never had prior medical experience before starting school.
Has anyone ever told you-you have a very kind and calming voice? Great quality for a nurse to have in my opinion.
Casey Curtis aw that's so sweet! I've got that a few times haha :)
I totally agree with you ❤️
I got my nursing license last June. I am here to tell you that you will make it :-)
Jae thanks! got my license in the fall actually, it's been nice haha :)
Justine G.Feather oh damn, I stand corrected. Congrats!! 😊
no worries! who it works is super confusing where i'm from, even i get confused sometimes haha
haha, awesome video btw!

I literally just posted a comment saying this.
