- In this video I go over several general pieces of advice and things you might want to do if you want to get better at Fortnite Zero Build. Typically my videos focus on more specific aspects of the game or meta but this video is more about the mindset you might want to have if you want to get better. Let me know down in the comments below something that helped you get better at Fortnite!

One thing I noticed is that lesser skilled players don't check the map and plan out their movements. Knowing which piece of cover or terrain you're aiming for makes a huge difference in end-game scenarios.
Bro called me out 💀
@@dox.Ki felt attacked by this comment too😂
😀......damn...
Who in the hell runs around looking for a rock to use for cover lol? This seems impractical. It would’ve made more sense saying, “less skilled players don’t focus on a specific drop, rotation, and looting path at said drop”. “Knowing a strong drop location, rotation from drop, and loot path makes for a huge difference in beginning and end game”. There I fixed it for you.
@@msj0883it was about endgame scenarios, having high ground or a rock to hide behind can be helpful, being on a roof can hinder which mats u can place, or where you can go
3:53 "At the end... everyone goes back to the lobby..." Evolve Jake 3 : 14
Let that sink in.... 🙏
👏🤣
- “In the end, even the winners go back to the lobby” even more deep 🙏
Yes we all back to the lobby but some with crowned victory royals. That’s what we all want.
AMEN hahahahaha
One thing to add to the being more aggressive is that I find that towards the end of the game a little more caution serves me well because you are definitely getting third partied at the end so waiting until others start the fight is more beneficial. Also just continually moving and being twitchy in game seems helpful.
I never have enough heals for the last for 4 player fights to be aggressive lol
I remind myself it’s just a game and not winning a match isn’t the end of the world. You win some, you lose some.
“You win some you lose nearly all,” me
@@thehighhideFr it’s still good fun tho right :’) ?
@@thehighhideme too
Old guy here! Only started a year ago, but I feel pretty good about my progress. Still lots of room to improve. I'm not aggressive at all, but I still have a KD of over 4. I like the strategy aspects of the game. Every season my win percentage goes up, and that is all I care about. Struggled early this season with how strong the Medallions were, but now I'm nearing 11%. With just a little more experience fighting, I can easily get that to 15-20%. At least that is my goal.
Descibe old 😬
Man I SWORE to myself I would NEVER play Fortnite and my daughter asked me to play with her one day and here I am watching this 😆. I always make it to the last 3 and then panic shoot and fumble the bag. Getting into more fights is definitely where it's at. Although I'm playing on controller so I'm at a disadvantage to PC players.
Update: I'm A LOT better now 😆. Win Victory Royales all the time.
Same bro. Never thought I'd be playing fortnite. My kids were playing it all the time so I started playing to spend time with my daughters and now I'm addicted 😂😂. We play all the time. Tons of fun
At least you guys are being good dads and decided to do it for your kids, I made the embarrassing decision to start a few weeks ago on my own lol
@@-8h- Haha it's all good man. Never thought I'd say this but it is actually really fun.
Literally the same with my daughter 😂
Your daughter must love playing with you!! I play with my parents and it’s such a fun time
playing a ton of zero build pit in creative, and my fighting has got way better, and my accuracy has improved loads as well. 20-25 minutes in the pit and you can get in 30+ engagements. Also, just not caring about the end result when playing br helps a lot, just play to have fun and the results take care of themselves.
Great tips Jake, i think your recommendation to play creative was the biggest tip that helped me improve massively.
I agree that the Pitt is a great place to get into tons of fights. I just find that I'm not getting much better. I get destroyed in the Pitt. I get roughly one kill for every ten times I'm killed. Frustrating.
I like the pit, but it can be chaotic. I think a great piece of advice is to not always disengage from a hard fight. Reposition, keep strafing, and sometimes you win and learn from them-- don't just shockwave away.
@hotstuff-ti7rw Love this advice. I'm always so tempted to run...and it rarely works out. Staying in the fight makes me think more strategically about movement.
good movement is how you tip the edge in your favour in close range fights. I've come up against some really good players in the zb pit, and watching their movement back on replay mode is very helpful. They're just so slippery, and watching them back you get to see their tactics. @@rhmidwestcomics
yep, don't just instantly run after getting tagged, you're just telling the other player you're not that confident imo. Unless you're just repositioning, then that's good.@@hotstuff-ti7rw
I’m so glad I found your channel Ch3 S3.
My game has “evolved” since then. Warming up in creative, right-shoulder peeks, understanding the meta: I really appreciate your contribution to the community.
Thanks Jake.
"At the end of the match everybody goes to the lobby" thats a good phrase.
Watching replays through your opponents view is great advice and has helped me as well... watch them both, when you do well, and when you do bad...
Really enjoying your videos. I’m a (40+ yo) new player since January. Play with my daughter and it’s so much fun. I appreciate this video and love your “inside the mind” videos. Really helpful to hear the thought process for how to approach the game. Also like that you’ve moved the mic! Great to see that it really is you doing the talking! I’ve started warming up in Raider’s mechanics training map. I like to use the free build to build a tower and practice sniping and finishing with an AR/SMG. Just practicing switching after sniping has been huge for me. And getting a feel for sniping at different distances. Again love the videos. I’ll give you credit when the new battle pass comes out.
Bro, you take so much sting out of the new player frustrations. Its truly rare and refreshing to see such an honest perspective.
I started playing in the pit for 15-30 minutes before playing (unranked zero build) just yesterday and can already see an improvement in accuracy and strategic movement to avoid being seen. I can hit opponents while I'm strafing and jumping, which I couldn't do well before practicing in the pit. This was great advice so thank you for sharing and dropping the code the pit.
I feel like this season I’ve been getting crapped on more often than in past seasons. Not sure if the average skill is rising or if I’m just getting worse lmao
Nah it's the sniper meta that has ruined everything, it's way too easy now.
@@drunkhusband6257frenzy shotgun :(
Frenzy shotgun and sniper killed the game good vibes.
@@Dudutxsuio So did the ARs not being hitscan. If they don't revert the ARs back to being hitscan mid chapter...I'm out.
You're not alone, I've felt like I've gotten worse. Ik it's my mindset. Maybe I'm playing too much.
"There is no fortnite court of appeals" had me dying m8
been playing fortnite since chapter 1 season 4 and right now, I'm not that happy with the game. Def not the worst it's ever been tho (that would probably go to the season that we had the mech suits in) but I'm so tired of running into riot shields, auto shotguns, and snipers. I love snipers but miss when they were more a niche item not something that everyone and their mother is carrying. Good video as always!
Thank you for your videos . Your right shoulder peeps have been helpful and the shooting from the hip has been helpful too . I do have to work on movement during a fight. I normally stand still. So that’s something I have to work on for sure .
Shoulder peaks*
W video Jake. I’ve watched your content since I started playing at the beginning of Ch4S4 and my game has improved exponentially. I’ve gone from a handful of crown wins in that first season to over 100 this season and my win percentage is around 20 now. I spent a lot of time on aim training and in getting into fights and you’re so right it helps. Every day I spend about 20 minutes on aim training before I play BR and I definitely feel it helps dial me in. Thanks again for all the W content.
Great comment bro 👍
WTH was at 3:53 ? Looked like something out of MORDOR yo! lol. Thanks man. You have helped me for sure. Also. I really like that PJ skin.
Pj skin looks like she smells like catpiss
This is my first season, total noob. But watching your videos have helped immensely, thanks.
Excellent summation of the season. Thanks Jake
I been playing since chapter 4 season one and I only play build mode. Your videos help me a lot. I love to see a in the mind video or spectating for build mode in the future
I'd like to see those too. I suck at building and would like to get better.
I'm one of the people who kept using a pump, I just love it so much. However I also acknowledge that I would have won 30% more fights if I just used an auto. :(
Pump hits hard,but its slow😅.
I keep having to re-enter EVOLVEJAKE haha. Great content as always you have helped me improve from 1-3 kills to those 10+ 15+ 20+ kill games.
I used to be that passive player until I watched your ch.
TYSM glad the videos have been helpful!
How you fought the riot shield is exactly how i do it also. Another thing to add is to listen to them shooting and right when you know they will have to reload you jump out and a lot of the time they'll stay out while reloading idk if it's them panicking or thinking they can reload n get the kill in time.
Great content as always Jake.
Got a back-to-back Victory Royale with my youngest today and I dont think I have ever seen him happier. And he got the final shot with a sweet snipe at close range so that made it better. He has watched several of your videos and wants to play like you do; not bad for a ten year old 😅
Another great video! Thanks Jake. I wondered if you would be interested in doing a video about different play styles between solo up to squads and also how a teams load could look to help compliment each other in the team. Thanks 💪
Very good and valid points 👏🏻
G Wagon! Good Strat Jake 💯
Now this is my video. I give this content the upmost respect. 100 across the board this is my struggle. And I am working on being more aggressive and smart push. Give good damage = push close in and get the kill. Combat anxiety is the struggle all so I try getting in as much fight but smart fights and movements are the keys. So thank you again in your great content ❤❤❤
I still have anxiety too, I can't seem to shake the nerves. I get where you're coming from.
I think one of the most important ideas you shared is investing in loss.
Most animals have an extreme aversion to loss and overcoming this in order to learn can be tricky.
After I play in the evening I lie in bed and replay my deaths in order to think about what I can do better next time. I like doing it before sleep because all the saltiness has worn off by then😂
I was a very passive player for a while. But after watching a streamer who was very aggressive. I started playing aggressive and realized that 7 out of 10 maybe 8 out of 10 times you will win because a lot of people do play Passive
Your advice is always so good! Let's go!
Love these help videos as an awful player really helps!! One tip I remind myself off is I watch a few pros play and try to copy some things but there simply worlds better then me and that's all there is to it
Well done as always
moving from controller to mnk recently aim training has genuinely made me reach me 300 hours of skill on controller in like 60 hours, so underrated
Lol, you should put “there is no fortnite court of appeals” on some merch. Great video
My son 9 yrs old got me into Fortnite started playing the OG season first starting out I’d just loot n hide until the final 5 then try to fight then as I got more comfortable I’d get in fights as long as I had the advantage ( better angles high ground etc) so like he said try to get in as many fights as u can but be smart about it
Thank you so much for the rich information 😊
1) not freaking out when you notice there's a bunch of people around you is what keeps me alive.
2) always reload your guns if you are safe
3) look around for points where people can snipe you
These are the main 3 that have helped me
i’ll do good all game then choke and get 2nd
It's all about balance. If you care too much about winning, your focus might become too narrow so you miss important aspects of the situation. If you don't care, you die because the other player spent more mental energy figuring out the situation. You should care, but not too much 😉
I get a lot of #2 to😂
There are good videos on not choking in endgame, definitely a skill that can be learned 💪
I learn so much watching you play
Thank Jake! I'm way better than I used to be!
W
I hopped in a red vs blue map just for XP and it ended up actually helping a ton! Got my headshot aim way better and building too
I can’t believe I never used ur item code before omg I’ll do it tomorrow u deserve it lmao I’m like better now thx to you
No Bullshit.. the first game I play after watching this video I win.. GG. Thanks Jake.
"At the end of the match everyone goes back to the lobby"
Simple yet effective
"There is no Fortnite court of appeals" 😂
Does anyone else watch this guys videos and learns about not just fortnite BR but life itself 🥴
I push fights but always have an escape plan. If a fight goes too long know you are gonna be third partied. Also when retreating from a fight I feel I’m at a disadvantage in, I try to pull them into another player or team
ive only been playing a few months, and i love the fighting..... but my aiming is crap and as of now i cannot do snipper shots in the speed game play. love your tips and am seriously looking into dropping big $ on a controller with the extra paddles.
Jake is the GOAT
"There is no Fortnite court of appeals" 😂 I object!
How to get better: Use an auto shotgun or gatekeeper. If you aren’t using your sniper or shotgun and don’t need to reload either of those 2 weapons you’re doing it wrong.
I don’t know what it is about this video, maybe it’s the lighting or the hairstyle, but Jake is looking excellent.
Ive seen one of those spinning fire things this week too, I wonder if its just a glitch or has something to do with the new season coming up
Jake, big thumbs up to mentioning that the creator code resets periodically. I personally had no idea. I have had to re-enter it periodically but did not understand why. Unfortunately, I have left a lot of support on the table by not knowing this.
no worries I appreciate it regardless
Playing creative has helped me. Still kinda suck, but i have some good moments. I think my mindset and nerves hold me back.
Cant wait for the next season
Thanks!
tysm for the super chat glad you liked the video!
@@EvolveJakeI liked the video and I learned from the video! I didn’t know that the Frenzy shotgun is now better than the pump one! Today I played with the pump and for some reason I felt it suits me better than the frenzy! But I will give it another try and see!
what guns would you recommend that lets you get in multiple quick hits but good damage?
Changing my setting might be difficult because I still fumble my default keys😢 Need to grind creative, recently started to enjoy it
I definitely get nervous in battle. My heart start pounding. It’s almost like an adrenaline rush
Hey Jake, can I ask what percentage of sales using the creator code you make? Ive never used a creator code before but I'll be buying the new fortnite crew pass for me and my wife Saturday and new skins for her birthday so I'll make sure to use your code✊🏼
I hope they get rid of the snowy mountain area next season. Those end zones are killers in zero build
Watching Jake stream alone will help. Im gonna be very honest here, I am sensitive, players who get agroed easy and rage dont appeal to me. He is the definition of a duck in a pound. You watch him on the surface, hes just bobbing along, enjoying himself. Under the iceberg, below the water, the ducks feet are MOVING. Similarly, Jake is so knowledgeable and effective in fights, in the heart of the game, he is calculating and moving more than most players on the map but at the same time, hes cool, just enjoying the sensory information in the game and letting the led fly. Thank you for making amazing videos!
Jake, could you please make a short follow-up about how to access Replay Mode with some examples?
Go to the career tab in the menu and then replays is on the bottom right
I've been doing that a lot to this day now when I play fortnite is just push people with guns but like the guns I'm still trying to figure out the shotgun it's like it doesn't do a lot of damage really that much it's like you really have to hit for the head or something like that and then switch to your other weapon and the other weapons kind of hard to lock onto them properly if you're using like a long-range weapon or something
i think another tip is just playing for fun,
for me i just play way better not caring what spot i get or if I win or not.
you play way better for playing for fun.
I just knocked out every other guy in my school, I'm amazing at fortnite now, but I also got expelled and kicked out. I was told to get in as many fights as possible.
Do you have any videos on when to push and when not to push?
Good technique
do you think you should use gyro aim?
I had a hilarious fight where someone dropped two turrets and hid behind a riot shield so I kept hitting them with shockwaves just to watch them panic.
Sorry dude, that didn't happen. You can only throw down one turret at a time.
@@user-ch1uk9dh1d He dropped them one at a time.
One thing I will admit I see a lot … is everybody meets up when they die but not work together 😂
I dunno I love fighting. I thought I was good until i tried a raked cup.... I need to train more 😅
I usually plan out where I go and where better weapons are
Totally understand where you’re coming from with your statements at the end btw
Personallly id rather have a match where i get 8 kills and 2500 damage and place 10th than 2 kills 500 damage and a win
My issue when theres 4 players left i never have enough heals to actually be aggressive in the last circle
Is there a creative map with zero build that you can play what would it be called
I feel like I’m always at a disadvantage because I’m on a switch lol
So hard playing on that thing, even with their version of an Xbox controller
They should make a team death match 6v6 would be awesome 👌
how do you go to replay mode? & what all gets replayed?
I dont think you contradict yourself in the end. I think there is a distinction between crunch-items and loop-hole relevancy. The perceived contradiction comes from observing the overlap of these to categories. This idea also shares a common thread with, don't rely on one style of game play too much. A perfect item that is an example of this is the recent turtle mobility. You would be silly not to use it in this loop hole but at the same time you cant revolve your game play development around just the Katina-like mobility items. You would be wise to get good with shocks, grapples, jet packs ect. These points compound on getting good on vehicle and animal varieties also. Just writing this i realize my jet pack game is so shot.
It really doesn't help that turning off cross play does nothing so I can't play with other control people either
How do you watch yourself from the opponents view?
idk what it is about the end of seasons and the matchmaking buts so sweaty haha
I will admit I've gotten the most wins at the end of this season tbh
@@DamoMartin woah nice!! yeah idk if it’s just me i probably just suck😂
I guess my problem with fortnite br is lack of incentive. Working on a battle pass isn’t enough incentive. Playing because the game is fun isn’t enough incentive.
If I’m doing a quest for a free reward, when I finish the quest I’ll leave the match. Maybe battle royales aren’t for me. I like the gunplay, the collabs are fun. I need a carrot on a stick to make me want to improve. A grind, a purpose.
Grinding is stupid, if you don't like the core of the game stop playing.
I hope a lot of people take that last tip please!!
What should i do if I get 170 ping in every match
How do you watch the replay?
What skin is he using at 10 min?
ggs
lol. so what your saying is take all the medallions you can so you get used to fighting!
what skin is in the thumbnail
Ohhhh that explains why your support a creator name always disappears. You're the only person I use on it and I couldn't figure out why your name kept deleting itself.
I do very good in the pit but it doesn’t do much good when I switch to BR. My rng is terrible and I can only ever find a grey pump off spawn and then get killed by the stupid auto shotgun. I also wish BR didn’t have weapon rarity levels. The game is just trash most of the time for me. My skill doesn’t even matter when epic throws skill less weapons to unskilled players. I hit so many of my shots but it doesn’t matter when I get headshot sniped, or third partied. The only people who have good stats stream full-time or don’t have day jobs. Sadly this is the best game in terms of BR.
How to not get sniped in mid-air before landing? Because this happens to me half of my lobbies
😂
By the way green snipers shouldn't exist.
