      Amazing PvP Maps Toby, thanks!
And practicing Aim briefly before matches helps ME a lot. Especially for the new sniper meta (as you demonstrated in the video), I missed a map with moving objects/ememies, so I made my own: 5011-9885-6831
Do you also usually do a 5-20min aim warmup too or are you straight jumping into 1v1s?
Would be cool if you'd check out my map in private. 😊

As a 16 yr military vet that has seen combat in real life, this video is FACTS people. Something I need to get better at as well, but this isn’t a gimmick. It’s exactly why, when the military isn’t at war, we are constantly training and exercising. So, when that time comes, everything is second nature and muscle memory.

I discovered by chance that something that worked for me for anxiety was playing with no audio. There are times where I want to play but I cant have audio nor headphones so I just use visual cues. It's a bit more challenging but what I discovered when I started doing that, was that i wasnt as anxious in 1v1 or multiple enemies fights. It just felt way calmer. We all know sounds plays a big role in how our brain functions, so eliminating that helped A LOT. After doing it for a while you just get used to the fights not feeling so high stakes and when I play with sound, it's more fun. Give it a try.

    • @WhoFlungDung

Very true, It a pretty big difference even though I love all the Fortnite sounds.

    • @GLDNgaming_

Love doing this sometimes, or just listening to music instead of game sounds. It heightens my situational awareness and teaches me helps me lock in harder during combat

      I feel you,
A lot of times my kids are sleeping or just being too loud and I’m not able to have the tv on blast so I’m not able to hear the majority of the time.
Some games it’s a must, some games it’s optional.
      And yes I agree.
Not having sound almost makes you already assume your not gonna get fat / win.
So I accept a early death. And already accepting death like it’s been said in almost every major historical war. Just gives you a advantage.

I don’t usually comment on videos in general…but this is pure truth. As a surgeon, these are true lessons to help not only in FN, but all aspects of life. “Let the program run” is a great mantra whether it is FN, job interviews, dating, or whatever gets you stressed out.

I’ve been searching for a video about this for forever and FINALLY!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!! One tip that I found super helpful in controlling my anxiety, is turning off my spectator count. I noticed that my anxiety skyrocketed when I saw how many people were watching me…turning that off made a massive difference.

Toby...another great video. What separates you from other all others is the human side that you talk about. It's not just about gun mods and tricks. I trained in MMA and Brazilian jujitsu and wrestling for two decades. During competition when you do it enough times you learn how to control your reactions to your emotions. Plenty of times when I was competing I felt extremely calm even though you are in a fight. I use this in FN and in life. Let the program do the work. And get comfortable in combat.

The two things I struggle with the most is "dropping hot", I avoid all named/medallion POI's because when it feels like there is 10 other people around me it freaks me out. And the other is, poor weapon switching, even though I keep my loadout the same (or close, depending on the game), it feels like in the heat of the moment i forget which slot "x" weapon/item is on

I played 43 games of zero build and finally got a Victory Royale (a couple 2nd&3rd places along the way). I usually get about 7-12 elims and I find myself panicking in fights especially when the enemy has a nice skin and they’re using things like the grapple. I’m still learning what the best places are to drop and attarchments to run n the best guns and your videos really help. This is a dope vid and some great advice for me personally. Hope I can get my 2nd victory Royale soon😂

I feel like this is an answer to a recent chat in Discord, your addressing this in a video is awesome, because not everyone pays attention to the chat. The thing that is most important is confidence mixed with some fear. I use my anxiety to keep my attention on environment so I know my escapes if I need them. And practice does build confidence, you learn by dying. Because you get to see what went wrong. But don’t get over confident, you can be confident and make dumb decisions. And you can be anxious and make smart ones.

  • @IsuiGtz
    @IsuiGtz 10 місяців тому +1

1:33 I'm gonna tell you why.
    Because time is everything.
Fortnite is extremely punishing for losing a fight. You are sent back to the lobby. Back to waiting. To looting.
I do not experience almost any sort of stress when playing Halo. I've been playing since the days of Halo 2, and I'm pretty good at it.
Fortnite on the other hand... I mean, if I get to moving zones... (I only play builds so even in moving zones we can have like 5 or so players alive) ... I swear I feel like I'm going to pass out. I literally get cold.
I know it's just a game and it doesn't matter in real life but I HATE losing in Fortnite because losing in Fortnite means losing my time. And you don't even get the feel of a well-rounded match like in Halo even when you lose.
What I mean by this is that, for example, yesterday I got 30 kills of 49 for my team (4v4). But we lost. The other team got 50 points. Now, there, I didn't feel like I lost my time because every second was action packed. It was a really good game! I literally said GG! out loud. I don't care about winning.
I care about my time, and the QUALITY of my time.
Fortnite is so f. punishing in regards to that balance.
My heartbeat goes up just thinking about it.
Is this some kind of mild ptsd? like I'm asking seriously.

    • @TobyWanShinobi
      @TobyWanShinobi  10 місяців тому +3

Yeah I get it... that's why I W key everyone I see while playing and go for high kill games - because if I lose at least I had fun getting into action.
And that is also why I don't play builds because it feels like people just continue to build and burrow and hide when you shoot them once... turning a 30 second zb fight into a 3 to 5 minute builds fight.

Great vid as always by the master, I've found just switching off the audio and practicing gun fights without the drama sound effects bring to Fortnite close quarters battles is a way to learn to stay calm during heated moments. So what you get killed but you'll be surprised how calm gun fights become without the distraction of audio! Find your zen and bring back the noise!

    Excellent video, Toby!
Just want to expand on the part about "it's just a game."
When it comes down to it, our lives are short and moving so fast.
I know that I can get wrapped in something that seems insurmountable in the moment.
A few weeks, maybe even days later, it's no longer even in the back of my mind.
In the same way, I take my losses, replay the tape and try to learn from them (can see my humbling attempt at a tournament on my channel!).
If I find myself repeating the mistake, I initially get frustrated, but then find a place to do the reps.
And also remind myself that Fortnite, and life itself, is a game.
Play it to have fun and don't take it seriously.
No one gets out alive :D

I gotta say.. Every time I get into a game.. I end up going in with the mindset of winning and something goes wrong.. And the problem is always followed by.. WTF, I came in with the purpose of winning and I lose I must suck.. After watching this video.. I learned a lot and will try to remember this isn't for millions of dollars for a win.. And if I somehow lose.. I somehow lost in a competition and forever see myself as a failure.. Thanks to this video.. I truly believe.. It will go a long way.. in making me calm down.. I do agree with practicing in similar situations to actual gameplay. One of the reasons I was turned off from the zero build pit map this season was it just feels completely different from real matches. Nothing looks the same, the buildings are completely different, you can't destroy anything, you have literal wall hacks. I just didn't feel like it was a good practice area for me and left.

Just like every historical war or battle, one big factor in winning for me is play and start the match accepting you’ll most likely be killed early on. Or atleast be unable to hit #1.
Get use to that mind set of being okay with loosing.
And once you do that, you’ll play smooth and calm cause if you do die it’s almost expected and when you win it makes those W’s all the more worth it.

Are the Shinobi FFA and Zero Build Zone Wars maps populated enough for regular practice? Personally, I strongly dislike (to put it nicely) the Zero Build Pit map, not only because of the permanent wall hacks everyone has, but also because everything eventually devolves into constant 50-50s with the Tactical Shotgun. Or maybe it's just my luck, I don't know.

Nice video as always Toby!! The thing that bothers me the most lately is that right after I lose, I diminish myself and get really frustrated and disappointed at my performance at the game. I often end up at 2° place and that's it. Maybe it all has to do with my mental state that is not the healthiest lately, a lot of bad thoughts running in my mind, because I really didn't used to let this sort of stuff get to me before

As a combat vet it was life and death’s for me at one point. I do however see the value in training to build confidence!

    Hi,
TobyWanShinobi. When I try the The Pit Zero Build and against real players I die a lot and I get when kill only. I turn off all my reticles. I am playing in Nintendo switch.

The only problem with the “it’s just a game and you have nothing to lose” phrase is that when you play ranked you actually lose hard earned progress.

Just getting tired of being sniped by 3 people at end game. Always coming in 2nd. Everyone is like 1 medallion os trash but im always facing medallion teams. And if i carry it i get hunted. Squads for life!! Its fun tho but yeah

Another tip, play duos with a much weaker player. My son and I play. I carry business case and heals, he rushes duos. Occasionally I get to revive him, but we win (non-ranked) quite a lot now.

First class content as always, and brilliant realistic map for training. Shame I'm just not good enough, as 47 year old in his first year of gaming, let alone Fortnite. I just can't compete on the practice map, unless i bush camp and snipe or i blade / shockwave out of trouble, i am obliterated far too quickly to actually learn anything from the experience. Thanks anyway Toby, the community really needs your content, keep it up!

"What did I do wrong ?" this is what I tell myself every death! ( no matter what game im playing) Blaming it on Lag or the other player for what reason is pointless, cuz most the time its usually you.
