Great survey of different tactics! Love the style of organizing them into “animal” archetypes. Good point that the best players have the skills to play any style and can switch between them. I’m going to try to learn more Viper Style tactics since I have been taking fights indiscriminately lately.
I apologize for being a giant nerd, but I think this is a viable style I’ve been using that has given me a lot of success. I’d encourage you to try it. I call this method Bull Style in the vain of the naming convention. The goal of Bull is to use an SUV to cause as much damage to other players as possible. Seems straight forward, but not so much. In order to do this, you need an ally to man the guns as you will be focused on driving. SUV with grenades, bulletproof tires and spiked bumper is the best (Don’s SUV is even better). Once you build your bull, look around for fights on the map between other players. Then use your turbo boost to ram into other players while your ally rains down a storm of grenades. You will catch so many players off guard who are focused on combat strategy against the player they were already fighting. You will eliminate A LOT of players if done correctly. I almost always make it to the top 3 and have had my fair share of victories as a Bull. Some drawbacks and tips: Know the map and where your gas stations are. When you get below half your vehicle’s damage, it’s time to refuel and repair. Use your turbo boost to get out of a fight quickly if necessary. You can always come back later when you’re ready. The Bull doesn’t stand their ground, they catch players off guard and charge away when in danger. When safe to do so, check the loot of eliminated players. You probably won’t be able to use your car when there is only two players left. I’ve eliminated players who drop legendary weapons that have been essential to a victory at the end game. Reiterating, you really need an ally for this method. This works best if you know where allies spawn and recruit one ASAP. Always be moving. If you stop, especially in a fight, another player can easily steal your vehicle. If you lose your vehicle, you and your ally will need to fight your opponents on foot until you can get another SUV. Make sure you have weapons at least at the purple tier if needed. Watch out for that darn Magneto power. If someone is REALLY good with it, run. Chances are, another player will take them out. If you’re down to only two players, it might be worth it to abandon the bull and use your legendary weapon against someone using Magneto Power. Anyway, I might not have been the person to discover this method, but I haven’t seen anyone else mention it yet. Give it a try and drop a comment! Happy Fortniting! 🙂
Another great video, Toby! I think I may slowly be adapting the Tiger style. Im a long way from where I could be, but that's okay. This video also taught me that we don't have to become the dragon to be good at the game. Thank you!
I play like a viper with just a touch of tiger. I average around 10 eliminations per game, and rotate a lot, always moving, but not hunting down fights. I don't like to camp, it's boring, so I'm more likely to encounter fights because of high-rotation but they are most always defensive (unless I am 4x scope third partying). I try to begin games by dropping at a location I know very well, but isn't always hot (i like Rebels Roost), try my best to get a gatekeeper with drum for slot 1, and then waterbending/war-forged AR/thunderburst SMG for slot 2. for early and mid game I like slot 3 to be a DMR with 4x. then heals/bunks/shocks for slot 4 and 5. (i leave the wings alone entirely) When 10 players are left I switch my DMR for Chains of Hades as it is so good for close-range end-game fights. I prioritize constantly getting in zone early and getting very good cover and not initiating fights unless they are AI or a sure thing. I employ the come and find out strategy quite a bit. When a fight starts I move around a lot, and put on a lot of pressure. When game is down to 3 remaining players, I try to let the last two remaining players fight each other by being stealthy, and then using Chains of Hades for the last fight, and with that strategy I have been winning almost every other game. 95% of the time I am top two and If I lose it was a very even/close 1v1.
Similar to your concept of Dragon, Tiger and Viper playstyles, there's a theory made by an FGC (Fighting Games Community) player named Laugh, describing three types of players: Brains, Heart and Body. Brains AKA Viper - Smart and strategic players with the baggage of knowledge of the game, that tend to calculate every move to achieve goals with minimal risks. Heart AKA Tiger - emotion-driven players, that like to do mind games and making reads, during the heat of the match. Body AKA Dragon - a type of players, known for their physical capabilities, which in a game like Fortnite, a good aim and movement. A most straight forward one. In a perfect scenario, all three attributes are required to be a good video game player, although it's impossible to completely embody all of the types, or just one of them. That's sorta how in RPGs, characters have different stats. So, just like how players can switch between different styles in your concept, players in Laugh's theory tend to be close to a certain type, while having something from others.
I play most like a viper. I always try to position myself and get the best loadout, most of my engagements are played in viper style but more aggressive
lets gooo i was watching Zarraxus stream and you and him Duo then heard you drop the video idea that you were working on and you said you were questioning if its good or not your videos have helped me sooo much and my brother and many more and the fact you do it in a ninja sensei style is so sick so dont doubt yourself you make sick videos sensei 🙏🏻🙏🏻
This video was so great! Was playing some great games with my younger cousin over the weekend, picked up a couple dubs in a row. Your lessons carried me to victory! I was landing some nasty damage and elims in midrange solely because I kept right side peek and my opponents didn’t.
I like Tiger and play with all three styles in my heart really. I call it Wolf Style, bloodlust is there, instinctively know where people are/going to be, let them tire themselves out with fights with others then just cull teams left right and center. You don’t know the wolf is there, you know it is on the map somewhere but you don’t know they are in deadly range until you hear death upon you. Of course wolves almost never hunt solo, either using that third/fourth/fifth party tactic of using other teams to weaken your targets for you OR kill your targets then go hidden/silent once more into the shadows. The most important aspect, are there more of them or just one and they are making you think there are more of them. I guess in militaristic sense you can call it a sniper build but in animal terms wolf is a fun spirit to embody.
Love that video man. Such cool way to explain different ways to enjoy and win games. I've been a viper my whole fortnite "career" since chapter 1 season 3. Sometimes i do play agressive but only when i damage enemies before getting into close shotgun combat. I rely on my Nemesis or DMR shots.

top tier video here. I love watching Z play and Ive tried the dragon playstyle to some success but its not how I naturally play or enjoy this game, I prefer to outsmart my opponents
This was a great video, not dorky! I recently hit champs in Ranked Zero Build but the only problem is I SUCK. I care about my rank too much and don't push at all. I just camp in bushes and I can't seem to get better/apply creative skills to Actual Games. My goal is to get to Unreal and play like a Dragon or Tiger. If you have any tips, that would be helpful. Thanks!

It’s funny, I relate most to the tiger playstyle & evolve jake, prospering, and you are my favorite streamers, so I think you nailed this one on the head.
Honestly, I just play mole style. I hide in structures when I feel I should, then peak out of holes to catch opponents off guard. If I’m met with dragon lvl aggression I’ll dip, though if I have team mates with me, I’ll bear my claws. I just made that mole style stuff up cause everyone else is, though you can just call me a viper bro.
it’s funny that this video popped up in my recommended cause i remember your name from a fortnite match that i played yesterday. it’s really memorable!
Thanks for this! I find that I play, mainly like a viper, but as I’ve gotten more comfortable with the game, have grown into a little bit of a tiger. I’d like to merge these styles and create a cobra category.
If it's ok i ask i would really appreciate a video on more Vipers, i come from and do very well in Battlefield and the first MW remake. In those games and now in Fortnite I tend to have a focus on ars, pistols, and smgs I'm primarily a mid a ranger. I've made it to Elite and am trying to keep a focus on playing like I'm in those mentioned games, like a Viper player, like that Tfue video you did. Not jump shotting all the time like some do, not panicking and moving around way too much and losing my aim when i don't need to evade like that, being ready. And it's not that i don't push fights and try to get 3rd parties but i push when i should be keeping my range and need to break that habit like you mention and do it smarter.
Did you mention that the dragon style is often the type of player who has a very large ego and becomes toxic when things don't go his way??? I've noticed that.
Oh hey Jake. It's always cool when I see creators interact with/talk about each other. Cause like of course I'm aware that they know of each other, but still hearing it it's like "Oh hey, this guy that I really like watching is talking about this other guy I really like watching". IDK Always kinda cool
I’ll say I have the tiger playstyle currently because I can be aggressive but I know that I need to run away and knowing that one player is knocked or weak is something that can bait the other team. I know I can come off as a dragon since I love the close combat, but I find myself having that mid range pressure and I always carry 3 weapons with movement and the fizz
Just found the channel, and I already enjoy and appreciate all the helpful tips and commentary! I’m currently Unreal in ZB, utilizing the “Snake” style, prioritizing end game, and keeping tabs on everyone and where they might be/will be, I always just thought of it as having a tactical approach
Thank you for the video. I have been struggling with finding a play style, this video helped me understand how I have been losing against different player types. Thanks again.
Im a Viper , But a little bit of a tiger. I’m a very strategic player, I like to kill and damage from a distance. Taking them by surprise. Before I push. My team is the same we push as a unit. I really think about what I’m going to do before hand. How I’m going to attack, my escape plan if it goes side ways, then execute. Key positioning, Same with preparation for rotation, mid and end game. With this we win more than we lose. Lead my team to over 250 wins this season. 117 crowns.
Haven't finished yet, still watching, but want to comment. I have definitely started the season as a viper, but have been transitioning to dragon. Fun terminology Toby! I remember you mentioning it on Z's stream
This season I've had to switch up the way I play to more aggressive i was getting about 4 to 7 eliminations but now about 10 to 15 per game.real fast pace and had to get really toxic to win with the cars.im doing better but when I get to the last 3 players I panic & mess up.when I should wait i tend to rush every time.every game i make it to the last 3 players but wondering if u had some tips or a video that would help me deal with the last couple of players.
I'm a mix between tiger and viper (well accept in creative lmao, cause then I feel comfortable being a dragon too). So yeah, definitely working on my dragon style in my next matches!
I think dragon in the early game, tiger in the mid, and viper in late game, at least in pubs because there’s no downside so might as well be aggressive early and then play more carefully as the lobby dwindles. In ranked, at low ranks the dragon will probably rank you up quicker and transition to viper as you get higher.
Nah on pubs u can go full dragon or full tiger since ur not risking anything important (rank loss), unless ur trying to farm crown wins then rush everyone u see and clean the lobby before the 10th zone
Toby your my man, every time you explain something new to me, it’s always something I needed, cus right now I don’t even have a style until I saw this vid❤❤
Tiger Style and Wu-Tang Sword Style "If what you say is true then the Shaolin and the Wu-Tang could be dangerous" A game of chess is like a sword fight you must think first before you move
I consider myself a very slippery and clever viper. I encountered my first dragon style player and we had a good 5 minute long chase across the map. I could NOT lose this guy despite pulling every trick in the book and i definitely was the hardest kill he had that game (i spectated the rest). It’s incredibly hard to fight someone that has mastered that style.
I really appreciate this video. I’ve only been playing FN for a little over 2 years, so unfortunately I consider myself a rat. But I am an aspiring Vioer because I think that’s likely my sweet spot. We’ll see! Toby it would be really cool to see a follow up that talked about team dynamics and composition for the different play styles. Especially for different team sizes. My son is a dragon for sure, but my son-in-law is a viper. It’s been interesting to try to play trios vs duos. Me and my SIL do much better together. Thanks for all the great content!
I made my own style called the ghost style. It’s a combination between dragon and viper. I do my best to stay hidden until someone tries shooting at me then I show no mercy so far it’s worked out a lot right now. I’m gold three and at my next match, I’ll be platinum one. Also, I could really use some help with training. The only thing I can hit shots with is either a sniper or shotgun.
So...... I guess my play style is Drunk Monkey lol... aimlessly move, occasionally eliminate with luck, confuse enemy with odd movement, and crash into things

Rat + Viper:

117 crowns.
viper player here maining sniper rifle :D
Im using the tiger style but im leaning more into viper now btw love your vids
How difficult will it be to train this "dragon" style of play on mobile, obviously not impossible, but how difficult will it be?
Im definitely the viper style I love this video Toby thanks
Haven't finished yet, still watching, but want to comment. I have definitely started the season as a viper, but have been transitioning to dragon. Fun terminology Toby! I remember you mentioning it on Z's stream

Can you share your crosshair?
Its really dope
i started getting way more wins when playing “viper” always making sure i have the right shoulder peak on enemies and rotating
I have a very aggressive playstyle, but I don't have the skills to get the kill when I get there LOL.
Same brother same ...unless i play with my Daughter then im just a decent side kick
So what happened to the eagle on a cactus while drinking wine style do?
This season I've had to switch up the way I play to more aggressive i was getting about 4 to 7 eliminations but now about 10 to 15 per game.real fast pace and had to get really toxic to win with the cars.im doing better but when I get to the last 3 players I panic & mess up.when I should wait i tend to rush every time.every game i make it to the last 3 players but wondering if u had some tips or a video that would help me deal with the last couple of players.
This is great 👍 your vids make me better 🙌🙌🙌
I'm a mix between tiger and viper (well accept in creative lmao, cause then I feel comfortable being a dragon too). So yeah, definitely working on my dragon style in my next matches!
Man Toby your channel is growing great ! I see you still on the grind ! 🫡
Nice vid! What do use to edit the clips?
This surprisingly made me subscribe.
Toby your my man, every time you explain something new to me, it’s always something I needed, cus right now I don’t even have a style until I saw this vid❤❤
Tiger Style and Wu-Tang Sword Style
"If what you say is true then the Shaolin and the Wu-Tang could be dangerous"
A game of chess is like a sword fight you must think first before you move
Feels like I'm in a kung fu movie with the different styles!! Another great video! Thank you!
2 weeks b4 the season ended 😂 cars changed every thing
Loved this vid! Super cool to see it like this
Thanks!
"and a viper also studies the map religiously"... I can relate so much lol
Min 1:34 him boy it him for 134 then 208 then white 30?
I’ve watched a lot of content from you and evolve jake and got pretty decent at the Tiger play style without giving much thought to it hahahahaha
Are they any dragons that play on controller?
I like your labelling of styles. Like science, labelling helps mental categorization.
lol. I would fall into your Viper category
I need to hear about panda and penguin play styles
Fellow Azuki enjoyer…
Also was a fun video to watch! I found it very interesting
Forgot 1 thing about Viper…. Getting access cards to determine forecast. Huge part of viper play.
What about the car style
Best i have seen in fortnite history.
I use the tiger im aggressive but i search for the terrain or object that makes me get the advantage
I'm a viper player. i still get 10-17 kills per game. This game style is most successful through any meta.
