This video saved me a service call and probably hundreds of dollars. Thank you Steve!
This guy always has the answers for my WM boiler and keeps us warm here in CT! Highly recommend, Thank you Steve!
Many thanks, this fixed my problem! I am fairly good at trouble shooting our slant fin boiler, learning the system over the last 24 years. This one had me stumped. Thank you!
Hey Steve thanks for the vid. I'm learning a lot. I'm getting into HVAC myself. The more you explain about what you're doing the better. I know you're a busy man thanks buddy.
Thanks, turned out I had the same problem! Searched for hours to see something similar to this.
You are one awesome guy. God bless you for passing on your knowledge.
Steve the working man to the rescue. Its working mamma. Good job. Have a blessed day
Without the lower cover in place,it will definitely cook the front roll out, great job sir.
Nice troubleshooting Steve! Great job
Steve, enjoyed the video. Nice diagnosis on that switch. Made me laugh when you said "smells like dog piss down here. Thanks, for the video!
Great Job Bro Bklyn appreciated!
Great message again thank you for your work. Robert jr NJ here Asbury Park and the pine barrens.
Love baby she’s a real working dog👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much!!!! my issue was the roll over/ safety switch by the pilot light (switch with 2 wires connected to it) luckily mine had a small red button i could use to reset it and the flames started right up.
Excellent work
Thanks for the video! Saved me a bunch of money. I couldn’t figure out what it was till you said the damper has a switch I hit it and it only slightly moved so I took the pipe off and there was a dead bird in there...... so let’s just say it works now lol
goodjob Steve!!!!
That’s twice now you have helped me fix my furnace
Your tutorial is a well-kept secret! Your expert advice made the Gas Boiler pilot swap a cinch.
Great Job👍🏽⚡️🔥
Hey steve
can you do a video on how to trouble shoot a boiler with the volt meter? Showing how to use the voltmeter as your diagnosing?
Love your videos Steve but get a cordless drivers for those 5/16 screws!!!
I wanna hear Steve tell why you need a damper, like what exactly a barometric damper does and how a electric damper functions?
Nice job
Thanks brother saved me migraines and money
Steve, this is Frankie Flip from Paterson NJ what amazes me most about you is how you never rip those plastic blue glues! hahahah mine last about 10 minutes
Your pet is awesome. She really loves the trip and your friendship.
“Somebodies pissing down here” Steve cracks me up😂😂😂
He says this sort of thing in a lot of videos. It's either a cat or a dog. I guess Steve can tell the difference. He'll say it right in front of the customer too. Steve's not going to fire himself.
Hi Steven you are doing great! Just wanted to ask you can I control my steam boiler from two different locations ? Just don't like going to the basement to set it..I'd like to have another thermostat in my apartment which is on the third floor
Did you put your leads on b1 and b2 at the same time to see if the damper is getting power?
I'm installing a peerless series 211A-12 and both pilots standing and electronic come on but boiler won't fire. Any suggestions
0:38 i looove the expression on your dogs face. Totally relaxed.. enjoying some winter sun.. not thinking of anything.. almost in a meditation state of mind..
very interesting
Ty mine turn off during the night. Didn't know what to do until I watch this video. Note that I have never look at that boiler box before so I had no ideal whats what.
But I Realize that you had a switch to turn of and turn on which was exactly what I was hoping for. I found mine which was definitely not at the same spot but I turn it off and back on then went upstairs and turn off and back on on the thermometer which did the trick the heaters are back on
Very cold in the Northeast this week. Should be a busy week!
Those style thermal cutouts are also often inside coffee makers. They're marketed as self resetting but i find that's rarely the case. One trip and she's a goner. So if your coffee pot dies, look for these squirrely bastards mounted near the heating element. Just don't remove em and jump em out with a piece of wire. I did that once and nearly started the coffee maker on fire while also putting a nice burn pattern on my counter top.
Fascinating . I disconnected this and the boiled fired right up. This entire time i wasted looking for air locks 😅😂. YOURE MY HERO 🎉
Running your boiler without the rollout switch is asking for a fire in your home or building. Get a new rollout switch.
I have same issue..probably that fuse you just changed as well.heading to basement now but who knows maybe it's damper..
You are the best and not like some people people on UA-cam don't know what they are doing
Thank you for the help
What he said at 10:25 is exactly what I did, I changed the thermo coupler and didn't put the shield on and it blew the roll out fuse. (or what ever it's called)
Dog is nice cute
Where did you get your training?
Damn damper
i guess you changed seasons out there - from shorts to pants.
Was that an old oil burner laying next to that boiler? Crazy long blast tube on that thing.
If u have a bad ros how do u get them going through the night if u don't have part?
How’s the heat in your ice cream truck? Looks cold!
Very good diagnóstic 👍
I have a burnham gas boiler. Pilot light up but no flames come on. Any suggestions?
Hello Steve, how do you rate Slant Fin boilers? I have an old one and was thinking of replacing it
lowroar well made units. I’ve installed many.
Rolloff switch is bad yah rolloff. Should have one in da truck ,yah. In the truck.Judge Wopner, yeh Judge Wopner 256
High limit ceramic disc. Good fix,Steve Lav.
Hey Steve is there a school that offer training in the trade? I'm in brooklyn NY.
It is a roll out switch. But it’s actually called a fusible link. And yes if you fire the unit with the door off it will trip that roll out
I have seen those thermal fuses in some power electronics but I have never worked on boilers. The furnaces that I worked on always had the resettable rollout switches in them.
My slant fin got water wet from water coming onto it from wall. Replaced the thermocouple but it's not turning on
I was wondering what that thing was on my Slant Fin. Now I know not to run the burners with the flame door off :)
My slantflint starts up and then stop the it stay lit but light up all burners why is that
Ok so it was my vent thing i bypassed it. Before i did that it was "short cycling" (auto light) it would light run for about 5secs than shut off a few times than stopped completely i did a full shut down of everything looked it over check everything i could understand (not much) i than hit the bypass switch for the air vent and now its working. Obviously this needs fixed but its 30° so need heat should it be lifted open? Or shut.. i have it open as of now
I have almost 100% the same heater.. gas powered broiler with baseboards.. the whole thing sucks upstairs bleeding needed A LOT
hello, steve ,there is frame in the heating machine, but turn on heat, air flow machine working, but not fire, that is same to u
How can I contact you? I got the same problem Irineo
on the ride over I had it in my mind that the customer had the gas valve on pilot still.
jason I was thinking the same had it many times
That’s the fix but what caused that to go bad with the lack of flame rollout damage is the real question I’d want to know
Hi technician, I tried everything you suggested to no avail. I checked further and found a bad thermo switch on the burner vent pipe that goes outside. I took off the leads and shorted them and viola--heat! I'm a field service tech and know that fix is temporary. Please include this search in your program. Thanx for the post.
I know this wasn’t intended but it was the dampener for me, still not sure what I did but I just did what I did and it works again
What is the thing he presses/pushes at 1:17?
my neighbors boiler pilot light keeps goin out ...company was there 4 hours and still cant figure it out...
customer sees the thermal fuse and goes ..... dogh!!!!
Also thank you now ill have heat for the night! We knew heater was starting to act up but its freaking May thought we could put it off for a little. Nope its 28° right now in Pennsylvania!
My furnace is doing the same thing.....pilot on but wont fire.....put a new thermostat in.....same thing...any ideas?
joe paul what’d it turn out to be?
How long would that style of boiler typically last?
25 years or more
steven lavimoniere Steve would you agree that slant fin are good boilers what’s the best in your experience?
Why there no explanations on what you were doing?
So if the rollout switch is bad you won't get power to the gas valve?
AdamEater Correct! It's wired in series with the gas valve. Part of the safety circuit.
thanks for the reply! If I would have saved my comment before watching the last 10 secs of the video, I would have figured it out, lol!
Came home and my pilot was off, had a leak in the line. Changed the line, for pilot back, no light. Changed front rollout switch, no light. Can the block be bad even if the pilot is on? Thanks
By watching this video save me $500
Was that a gas detector on your shirt?
Looked like a tape measurer
its a personal c.o. detector
Steve, good idea wearing one.
It amazes me what all you know, Plumbing, heating, boilers, A/C.
I know editing can be a pain but a little explanation of what you are doing would serve the purpose of the video. All I heard was mumbling.
I think his videos are unfortunately for entertainment purposes, not how tos.
good old slant fin
10 cent thermal fuse, mounting probably makes the cost a few dollars minimum. Gotta love manufacturer lockin
Why do you wear gloves? When i was 25 working in the basement of a 20 story building the job was to remove all the cast iron pipes inside of the old sewage pit probably 12' x 12' x 15' deep and then fill in with concrete. My supervisor volunteered to go in the pit with a sledge hammer to smash the pipes an me like a dumb-ass stood at the edge of the pit watching and of course when he smacked one of the pipes a piece flew up into my mouth! LOL something deadly was inside of that pipe waiting for me because two hours later i was violently ill ! Nothing is worse than puking so many times that you spend an additional 5 hours with the dry heaves!!! The real question should be why dont you wear a mask LOL
I have a newer version of this boiler with electronic ignition .The damper opens , the pilot comes on stays lit and making a buzzing alarm sound but boiler wont fire
Sounds to me like you need a service tech that is local to you with a license and insurance who can properly diagnose the issue and Test for co2. Playing hack job off the internet is dangerous for you, your family and the neighborhood
That boiler sure looks like a flimsy piece of junk.
What, you didn't reinstall the world's longest sheet metal screw? I think I saw it on top of the boiler at the end of the video. That's funny when you find stuff like that on HVAC equipment. I have seen hackers install extra long screws into condensing unit coils and puncture the coil. Not sure why there are so many thumbs down on this video? I guess even the good plumbers have haters.
You’re not real big on cleaning and inspection. Lock the vent damper open. No worries bout the end switch failin
I am sorry but I couldn’t hear what it was that he tested that was opened and needed replacement for
A rollout switch.
Flame rollout switch. If the burner malfunctions and the flame rolls out of the combustion chamber, this switch will shut down the boiler.
only Slantfin would use a limit switch that cooks to death. Junk ...Using a stupid resister style switch.
there's different temperatures for those fusable links yall
That part is actually called a fusible link. It’s a one shot deal My problem is all you home owners now diagnosing your gas appliances. Seriously ppl you don’t know wtf u are doing. At the end of the day if u fix your own boiler and die from carbon monoxide or explosion you saved couple hundred dollars. Enjoy
you video has an upside and downs side. it help handyman like myself that don't know boilers much and make you money through youtube. but it also give trade secret and take jobs away from HVAC Technician. LOOOL
