I am just getting started in tooling and your videos are a wonderful resource. I see you chuck a weight onto the project and wondered if they aren’t just handmade sandbags from scrap leather. Am I correct?
It would be nice if you picked up the tool face and displayed it each time you use a new tool. Or, add a picture of it t o the side of the screen for the viewers. Great instructions. Thanks.

Thank you for your very enjoyable video. I have been playing around with carving/tooling and using newer Tandy tools. I am not happy with the result. The carvings looks dull/muddy when I am done. I had the opportunity to try some Gomph-Hackbarth tools and was blown away by how much crisper and life like the carvings was. I have deciding to upgrade. You said the beveler you were using was a BK XX Steep checked #2. Can you list the other tools (make, pattern, size) used in this tutorial?

What exactly is that bar grounder to which you refer? What can I look for at Weaver Leather, Sp;ringfield Leather or Tandy Leather?
The bar grounder is a certain background tool. The one I use is from Barry King Tools size 30

HI Joe, following your videos and tutorial, we started to learn tooling. (Soon we will start the online course from you.) Here, where we live center of Europe (Switzerland), the sources of leather are : Italy, UK, France and finally USA. We bought from France but the result is not what we expect. In a couple of day we will receive Natural Veg Tan from Italy and we will se the result. It's known that for tooling not all the tannery produces type of leather good to obtain the correct result. Fade, shadows deepness ... At the end what are the source of leather that give you the good result. Is Hermann Oak the unique solution? or even is USA do you have the same good results with something else. Hermann Oak become very expensive for us in EU due to the shipping costs. Hey there, thank you for following my videos! Herman oak is definitely the best to tool in over here. I’m not familiar with the different tanneries over there. However, Italy is well known for high quality chrome tan leather so hopefully the veg tan you’re getting will be great quality as well. I’d be curious to hear about the results you get with it.
@@joemeling3216Apart the experience on use the swivel knife passing trough the tooling and all the rest, is the reaction of the skin that is not the same of USA leather. I can take a photo and send it to you.
