  • In this video I show how to tool this leather bracelet. It only requires a minimum amount of tools: a swivel knife, a stylus, and two stamps. The pattern is a PDF and should print to scale if you print as "Actual Size", or resize it to whatever size you want. Cut it out, cover it with a piece of clear packing tape on both sides, and it should last a lot of bracelets.
    Feather Bracelet Pattern: goo.gl/v5Rtw3
    The Tools I used:
    Barry King 3/8 Barrel 1/4" Thin Straight Blade Swivel Knife
    Barry King #2 Check Beveler
    Barry King Verticle Lined Thumbprint
    A fine point Ball end Stylus

    I just wanted to say Thank You for Your Tutorial and the Free Pattern.
    I'm trying my hand at different mediums to see if I can combine leather, wood and glass to create something unique for Loved One's.
    I really appreciate Your Time and Confidence Building, especially when I've never tried to make anything out of leather except Key Fob's (Blood Knot)
    This is going to be a whole new level of learning.. Thanks Again for Sharing Your Knowledge!!

    I don’t know how anyone could think this is a good tutorial, I learned exactly what I would have from a book. I came to UA-cam for a demonstration, but I couldn’t see anything you did! I really would love to learn from you so I hope you have better videos.

      @@AldensSchoolofLeatherTrades It's so close to being good! Just a closeup of the tools and how they're being used and consistent lighting between the cameras and your set. Currently working my way through tooling this feather.

    How long do you wait to begin swiving leather when u spray water?

    • @Handles-R-Lame
      @Handles-R-Lame 3 роки тому

      I know its been a long time since you asked the question, but in case anyone is still wondering.. its not very long maybe about 30 seconds or so. When using a spray bottle its more of the "quick casing method" unlike a "normal casing method" where you would submerge the leather to let it soak up the water, that method takes much longer some times a full day as some people leave it over night before carving the leather. Personally im impartial, either is fine with me, pending how much time i wanna spend on my case of course.
      Peace.

    Do you always wet both sides of the leather

    • @AldensSchoolofLeatherTrades
      @AldensSchoolofLeatherTrades  6 років тому

      It just depends, you want the moisture content to be even to the middle of your leather. Sometimes I wet it completely and then let it dry to the moisture content I'm looking for.

      That would be cool! If I had a time machine i would go back and fix that. It has taken a lot of time and money to get to the current quality of our videos. I don't know whether to revisit and reshoot some of these old videos, or just take them down.

    • @AldensSchoolofLeatherTrades
      @AldensSchoolofLeatherTrades  6 років тому

      I don't typically use patterns. I use a 9b graphite pencil to draw the pattern directly on the leather, and then erase it after my swivel knife.

    I think you did a lousy job at showing people how it's done because you were not doing any close-ups on your tooling so maybe get a camera person that can zoom in to show your tooling expertise while you're talking about it and it would make your time in this video worth a lot more. I am a professional but not everybody out there is so I think their interest would be in how you hold your tools and a little guidance would help people to understand what you're doing not from a distance. You have to understand not everyone is experienced in this art so don't assume.

      I am total newby but after three videos I get that holding the tools square or at angles depends what your going for with any type of work. But I get the criticism. Some people need to see something in its totality or they are lost.

      Yeah, our newer video we have more cameras and an action camera right in front of me, so the tooling is never (or rarely) blocked. We are also able to do better close ups.
