Seeing that combat was absolutely amazing Andrew, you’re one of the first people I’ve ever seen to capture original footage of that behavior for UA-cam. Timber Rattlesnakes become more elegant and fascinating the more I learn about them, and I am incredibly excited for your next video! Amazing work, keep it up!

I was witness to TWO such fights in a week, with the second one lasting over 3 hours: they were still testing each other after midnight when I gave up watching....

Wow, that breeding cycle is slow, kind of makes me worry about their conservation

It definitely makes it difficult for populations to recover from major disturbance/loss. Fortunately, they have one of the broadest distributions of snakes in the Eastern US!

It is kind of how giraffes fight.

Serious question. How do you walk through all that not looking down? I ask because copper heads. I will take a rattle snake over a copper head any day just because the warn you. I also ask because I have a puppy and I live deep in the woods surrounded by pine trees. No water source around so I've never seen one yet. Just rat snakes and timbers

We wear snake gaiters which certainly helps alleviate the worry about an accidental bite! I worry less about copperheads because of their small size; most bites would probably be to the foot/ankle which a good pair of boots would prevent. It’s certainly tougher with pets, but keeping the yard area clear/open will help as will keeping them leashes and on trails when out for walks!
