Gods Speed, you'll be missed my old friend but every time we hear a crash our thoughts will be with you.. thanks for the work you did, youll be missed not forgotten
Ms. Sally Zildjian herself helped install a Sabian display at Motor City Guitar, back when I used to teach there. Even though I was (and still am) a faithful Paiste player, she still extended hospitality, and immense class. I have much respect and admiration for her, the entire family, and the legacy of their insturments.
no wonder Bob went his own way after his brother Armand Zildjian was made the head of the Zildjian company. It's good for us as consumers, though, that Avedis at least passed down for the first time in Zildjian's history - the secret, to both brothers, because we have more diversity in the fact that there was a rival company born. If I had been Bob I would have felt aggrieved to say the least that I had to play second fiddle to my brother. As a younger brother myself, I used to feel slight resentment that my older brother would always get brand new bikes and I used to get second hand ones. (I didn't even get my brother's bikes handed down). Until I was about 12 and I got my first brand new bike I felt that way. So as I said it's good that at least Bob had the same knowledge passed to him as his brother in order that he could go his own way.
@ACDCYC yeah. he's part of the zildjian family. he was actually the main reason zildjian was so good.. but because he was the 2nd son, he didn't inherit the company, but he did inherit the factory in meductic which is now the sabian factory..
All my cymbals are Sabian! Its nice to know where the name came from, I kinda thought before this that the name in the French language translated to 'happy' ? Say Bien? But 3 names put together is fine with me!!
@ACDCYC He is from the Zildjian family. The family was named "Zildjian" a long while ago, it stuck with them. I don't think that's the actual name of the family. He founded Sabian when they had a fight in the Zildjian family, and he went off to make SABIAN. Sabian stands for the first two letters of his three children. "Sally" "Bill" "Andrew". SABIAN. See it? =)
Found my old B8 hi hatsI’m a new beat guy by the way.. they were all green and oxidated but I played around with them for a little bit and I have never played a better cheap set of high hats.. I don’t have any good Sabian stuff but the cheap stuff is the best beginner stuff I’ve ever played.
There is nothing would happen without God's consent including things with the Zildjian family. Now and ever since we have at least 2 main world best competing brands. Thank you or eventually listening the explanation of the name of the brand from Bob Zildjian himself. I hope there is more peace in the Zildjian family.
If you have a choice between a 60 dollar crash or a 200 dollar crash, just get the 200 dollar one. Otherwise you will just end up paying 260 anyway and throwing one in the trash. Unless you have the ability to modify it and make it fit some application for effect which most people dont.
I heard a 22 HHX ride at the Sam Ash in LA. First Sabian I really liked, but w/a high price tag. I'll stick with the Paiste B8's like 2002, Giant Beats, Rudes...all superior to anything Sabian
sabian are the best cymbal makers in the world in my opinion. I've played and loved sabian all my life.
What an excellent interview. Thx Bob and thx Musician`s friend.
I am so priviledged to of been a guest, one of the finest weekends I have had the pleasure of.

He's probably the coolest grandpa ever!

Y argh there 2 segmented videos both titled Sabian Factory Tour?!?!?!?!?
@Salzcamino Ziljdian means Cymbal Maker in Armenian, so it was probably not their original surname, but a title given by the Turkish Empire.
Sabian are damn fine cymbals
This series is a historical document.
yessssssss. best cymbals.
I have recently purchased AAX And it Rock`ssssss . Very Happy with it Thank You :)
He said Doo Doo at 2:39. Great vids btw....and Im a Zildjian guy.
That Canadian factory is where Zildjian K's were made.
It IS a damn fine formula.
@pece33 Not exactly.. He's one of the many Zildjian children. On account of a feud within the family, he parted from Zildjian to found Sabian!

When you realize that in "Ba dum tishhh!" you write, the "tishhh" is Sabian for sure :)
Imagine how awkward it must be at Christmas when the whole Zildjian family gets together :/
awesome!
JESUS LOVES YOU!!!
Here, a set of Paiste 10" micro hats is $500. $800 for a single Rude crash.
I'm just like...
xD I'll stick with B20's which cost 1/4 as much.

"sorry.... that's the way its gonna be..." lol
Brass cymbals are nasty and break pretty easy. My first "china" was a broken 16" brass crash, it kinda worked.....ish🤔😀
yah, and that was after 450 years of cymbal making under the name zildijian. Its relly a awsome story.
R.I.P.
Sabian Family

Family Feuds only last so long. Won't be long before the Companies will merge just like the K Zildjian company did.

Sabian has the greatest sounding cymbals out there.
A lot of Doo Doo put into Sabian Cymbals....
