It's actually pretty crazy how many RPG Maker titles there is, the original is actually back in 1988 running on BASIC (Although not in English) and notably it's also been ported to SNES, GBC, GBA and DS (all of which are also not in English) 😅
Let me just say as someone who's played RPG Maker MV on the Switch for literal YEARS (played it since launch, still working on projects on it): MV was a VERY good port. Does it have its flaws? ABSOLUTELY, and I'll get to that. But those who hated it? Ignore its positives. It functions IDENTICALLY to its other versions, with nothing cut out of it. Its touch screen is responsive and surprisingly accurate compared to most other Switch games. And of course you can plug in a keyboard to make your life easier. There's also no space limitations (outside of 10 save slots), so you can make a game as massive or as tiny as you want. If you've only played RPG Makers on consoles and handhelds, then it's a serious upgrade (though I'd argue that the 3DS one is more intuitive and quick... I'd say the same about the DS version, but that never came to the States). HOWEVER, its flaws can't be ignored. Obviously, since it is a console RPG Maker, you'll be limited to the assets and functions they give you. It has a character creator, but even that is limited due to the lack of detail positioning and having a limitation of how many characters you can make (for no reason, seriously). So you're dependent on their base game assets and DLCs... Issue is, at some point they just decided to stop putting up new DLC, even though they continued to release DLC for the Steam version (which makes no sense, because most people don't bother paying for assets on PC, since they can easily download it for free from others). And the worst part? The game runs your text through Nintendo's servers when you upload it... Meaning, ALL of your work will get CENSORED as it's uploaded. This is insane since most games don't do this, not even Nintendo runs their text through this (only exception is Game Builder Garage). And it's obvious why they don't: the amount of words and phrases that get blocked is asinine! You literally can't have "it's a" in your text because for some unknown reason " 's a " is censored! "s of" is also censored, so good luck having ANY plural sit behind "of" in a sentence. Not exaggerating here, but this is literally game breaking. No, LITERALLY game breaking. There are at least two assets that will fail to load in your game, only because their FILE NAME contains censored words! It literally censors the code!! It's HORRID. The developers never bothered to fix this, because they likely gave up on it to focus on RPG Maker MZ, which released soon after on Steam (never released on Switch). But if you only enjoyed your creations locally? The censorship is a non-issue. It only happens when you try to upload anything. So why bother with MV? Why not just work on RPG Maker on PC? Frankly: You have a unique and dedicated audience. On PC, your works will have to compete with literal tens of thousands of other works/creators. B) If you know which words and phrases are censored, you can get around it with special characters (á, ē, î, ö, û, etc). Example: "It's á small price to pay." All that said, while I feel a little betrayed by RPG Maker devs for their abysmal support for MV then having the nerve to release another RPG Maker on the same console.... If it's genuinely catered for consoles, then they SHOULD release more assets for it via DLC than they did for MV, they SHOULD avoid the censorship issue, and they SHOULD make it far more intuitive than MV was. I'm probably being foolish with this hopeful thinking, but I'll buy the darn game.
Hey, I hope for your sake that they come through. But yeah, when I saw the bizarre censoring issues all over the demo, I was just not bothering with RPG Maker MV at that point. According to the website they scrapped the customisation options on Switch. So XP and MZ will remain my recommendation, XP cuz it's the cheapest one with modding capabilities by a wide margin and MZ because if you're gonna pay more you might as well go for the best one.
Very interesting, I just hope there's a way to make your own custom assets and such, not necessarily a full-blown file explorer to sift through images you can get off Google, but just a way to create your own and perhaps grab others' that have been uploaded to their servers

Can you elaborate? So if I wanted to make my own pokemon game, it will be impossible?
@@master_atlas most likely yes,
The scripts that rewrote the mechanics are not supported due to the console's limitations,
And the assets are not allowed to be used due to the rules Switch games have to adhere to.
Nintendo could theoretically release DLC that makes it easier to make Pokémon spin-off games,
But it's impossible to make something as versatile as essentials on Switch
Without a fundamental rework of the game.
As such RPG maker XP on PC remains the gold standard.
I actually made a demo for that idea on the 3DS version.
This actually looks really intuitive. Reminds me of RPG Maker for the PlayStation.
WITH WHAT?
If you're still asking then the game is probably not for you
I was just about to comment this lmao
With other people.
Smh, did you even watch the trailer?
With ™, of course. Haven't you read the title?
@@mauro27279 so, you can only make Pokémon games with it?
This was pretty dope on the 3DS so I'll be curious on what puzzle games people can make this time
With this I'll create my own my dream epic role-playing game...
"Paper BetaRabbit64 Fantasy XXI: Legend of the Seven Crystal Carrots"!
You forgot "story" "Saga" (or SaGa) "Re: " "Star" a pretentious sounding made-up word, a pretentious sounding actual word no one uses, and the XXI should be XXI-2 .
@@mattwo7wha-
@@mattwo7I think there should be an Episode 1 before XXI-2, get people hyped for the next 24 and a half games of the SaGa.
I sure hope this isn’t outdated extremely quickly by the switch 2 coming out, I also hope theirs a way to save my progress externally, or at least via the cloud to my computer.
Love this idea seems like it could be full of shenanigans
I know you're like 7 using the word "shenanigans" 🤦♀️

That narrator is doing such a good job. Very cheesy, very nostalgic. Good job to the people who made this ad, it passes the vibe check for me with flying colours
Cant wait for someone to fully recreate both Fear and Hunger games
I’m not really good at making creative projects like RPGs, but I hope this game works well and is fun for the people that play this
Didnt know Sonic made RPG’s
He did once, but then Ubisoft shot him with a arrow in the knee
Never played this game but it seems like a really good idea. See what a group of friends can come up with all together, seems awesome.
RPG Maker With Da Bois!!
This is AMAZING news to me who am starting my classes to become a game designer someday!
127 day left, before RPG MAKER WITH Launch.
1 day left
I feel like this is the obvious step forward for the series
This is very cool, but I can't imagine trying to make a game with Switch controls. It's just so much easier with PC
I wonder if we can port stuff
The music alone is worth the purchase!
Imagine the last half-year of the switch still goes hard
Mario Maker 2, Game Builder Garage. Dungeon Maker now RPG Maker? Yeesh, so many game making tools on the Switch and I love it
Would have been cooler if it was Zelda!
Well then make Zelda
First before this becomes popular
Agreed!
In fact would’ve been colour if it wasn’t this. And something like Mario & Luigi series
Master of hyrule! Hiii! There’s something you can get on switch that’s a ‘Zelda’ maker, it’s called super dungeon maker and it costs money but I think there’s a demo, at least there’s one on steam
RPG Maker on 3DS was already sick, never expected it to come to Switch. This is awesome!
I feel like these types of games would be better suited on PC
Too late PC master race shill,
It’s for Switch and soon to be PlayStation consoles in 2025.
I used to live on rpg maker 2000 when I was a kid, everyday after school I would spend at least 3 or 4 hours trying out different ideas.
Yoooo Fear and hunger in Nintendo Switch
No one knows what that is
@@cattoadgamer4356I do + child. 💀
@@cattoadgamer4356 only you dont
why game makers in consoles dont just add a draw option like how you can make a create you own game game without a drawing option for frames and such
This came out of the blue!
Nintendo fans 🤦♀️
@@cattoadgamer4356 what's so bad about it?
It really didn't,
Between RPG Maker Unite and MV Trinity this isn't really surprising or exciting.
@@Anon_Octo some people dislike anything RPG Maker,
Especially since these console ports take away customisation features due to console limitations.
This is dope! As a game developer myself, I'm gonna enjoy using this to create fun small titles!
ITS BACK FROM THE DEAD!!! WOOOOOO!
(RPGMaker was on the Nintendo 3DS that’s why I’m saying it’s back)
At least 2 RPG Makers have come out since then lol
I remember downloading the free player and having so much fun, I'm probably gonna get the full version of this new one.
@@LioVega I didn’t know that. I just remember the one from 3DS.
RPG maker has been around and very active since the PS2
Finally... Atlas's Adventure, you will see the light of day on the Switch!
Finally, I can play a good pokemon game on official Nintendo hardware for once instead of being disappointed by games such as "Pokemon Scarlet and Violet" or "Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl"
Can you load/make assets from Pokémon games in this switch game? Like fire red assets
@@brechtceuppens Edit: according to their website you cannot use private assets,
So it would be impossible to use Pokémon assets.
Additionally Scripting has been deliberately left out of certain sentences so it seems like you can only use the base engine.
@@brechtceuppens I know there's a "Pokemon Essentials" pack in the original RPG maker which allowed for many fan-games to be created. I'm pretty sure somebody will remake that same pack for this game too.
Hands down an inspirational game for future game developers.
Nintendo: "Don't use our assets to make fangames."
Also Nintendo: "Please pay us money to use our assets to make fangames."
Well according to the website you're likely not gonna be able to use custom assets at all.
@@BramLastname That´s always like that with the console versions of this. Hardly limited and actually not worth it cuz you just have to stick to standard assets. Also the upload and share features might get discontinued very fast.
This brings back memories of me trying to make RPGs on my pc in the early 2000’s using a program called RPG Maker 2000.
Sick
Lets hope Nintendo finds inspiration to make zelda maker like this. Everyone in the Zelda community would go wild en make al kinds kf remakes of past games and we would never run out of zelda games to play.
I remember playing with the software on PC some years ago, good times!
Finally, a chance to make a Classic RPG, with a Team!!
It's been a long since I first used a RPG Maker on the PS1.
The tech sure has come along quite a bit since then XD
I remember using the older version on the web. It seemed so old and underdeveloped that I never would've guessed it'd make it to Switch! How cool!
I’ve never seen this before, but it looks SICK. Definitely picking this up when it drops 🔥🔥
I’ll be honest: this upcoming multiplayer RPG Maker looks and sounds like this franchise’s most innovative update yet! =O
Even with the limitations of being on console, I’m sure this RPG Maker will produce all kinds of mind-blowing results like the Super Mario Maker series!
This us fantastic. That voice over though... thank goodness that game (maker) looks amazing.
How are you gonna use custom assets on a switch? Explain this please..
I always wanted to be a video game developer. This is like a dream come true for me.
would love it if they added Multiplayer or local co op in the base engine
This made me remind Game Builder Garage and how much I was excited for it and forgot about it after a few days. Asissting other's game dev with your own console sounds really convenient. Not sure if I will end up getting it (I'm always hyped abou RPG Maker but never end up getting any of them) but it really is appealing! I wonder if this opens multiplayer aspects to these games as well... could be interesting.
According to the website they scrapped the customisation options on Switch.
So XP and MZ will remain my recommendation,
XP cuz it's the cheapest one with modding capabilities by a wide margin
and MZ because if you're gonna pay more you might as well go for the best one.
Very interesting, I just hope there's a way to make your own custom assets and such, not necessarily a full-blown file explorer to sift through images you can get off Google, but just a way to create your own and perhaps grab others' that have been uploaded to their servers
Are you going to be able to upload and download other people’s creations like mario maker 2?
Wonder if we can export them? I'm getting excited as I had to hold back on many ideas I had before when using FES
Now THIS is some good news I’m getting this game day one
i love how the va stays committed to the anime dub voice
I’m not a big RPG fan but this looks cool! I might have to try this out and play it with my mates
RPG Maker MV is my most played game on steam by 100's of hours, and god does sharing assets sound good
i love how the graphics are exactly the same as they were two decades ago
Video Game Developers are gonna have a day with this.
That's cool. I wish someone would make a fighting game maker or beat em up maker.
As someone who worked with the original RPG Maker on PS1 5 min of gameplay was equal to 18 ours of dev time but if you put enough time and effort in you can create something fun
