Love the look Cronenberg gives to the camera at 1:00

I sincerely recommend the documentary of which Cronenberg speaks of; The Mark of Cain, it's on youtube and it's one of the most beautiful things I've seen.

Leading actor Viggo Mortensen yet again delivers one of his best roles in this stylish, violent, well crafted & iconic gangster film. (86%) (4.5/5 stars) (positive)

I read that the script had the baby end up living with it's grandmother in Russia, but they went with the safer option of having Niomi's character adopt and get the child she never had. That might be why the ending is a little ubrupt, but the film overall was pretty damn impressive. Viggo was a standout for sure.

Interesting that, even though Cronenberg loved cars, that wasn't the main reason to make "Crash".

I did fear at the end of the film that Cassel's character (who I thought was brilliantly menacing) would really kill the baby, a part of me wants him to, to keep with the darkness and unforgiving that were really prevalent in the film, but at the same time I think that the way it ended was more realistic. We're not given enough about Cassel's character to think he is totally devoid of morality, even though he shows he mostly is.
What annoyed me about the ending though is it's abruptness.

new cronenberg films dont feel like his films , they don't have the tragic and scary elements they used to

True, they're more dramatic (though remember M. Butterfly, Spider, and Dead Ringers of course), but watch his more recent films more than once and they're just as frightening. Eastern Promises is maybe his most tragic film imo (except for Dead Ringers). He has said himself that his recent films are more austere, paired down and minimal.

Naomi Watts' character ending up with the child. Please don't tell me you thought that was a feasible or realistic outcome to the film? The whole picture had a quality of menace and unpredictability about it and then it ended like a disney film.

chronenberg droning on, and on, and on, and on. It's funny to hear him talk around that fight scene, dude really needs to work out his issues with sex. Seems like a real creep.
