Excellent method! I'm in charge of scenery for our N scale modules. This will make great and light weight mountain scenery for them. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Landrel, Great idea. I'm planning on a "ceiling train" around the family room and down the hall in the basement. I wanted to have about 50/50 rock and backdrop along the wall. It's only about 10-12 inches to the ceiling. I think this will work perfect and will keep me from making a million individual cast rocks.
Great video. That’s a distinct North Carolina accent there if I’m correct. Been living in the triad for 6 years (originally from mass) but I do believe you have that good ole North Carolina drawl. Cheers my southern friend . Thanks for the the modeling tips .
OK... I liked this video about eight minutes in.. You have done a masterful job on your diorama, appreciate your "recycling" of the couch foam, I have bookmarked your channel for reference. Well done... Thanks Tim
I use a lot of discarded seat cushion foam...extremely easy to work with and produces extremely realistic rocks and boulders. Of course im using it to create full scale sets...
Nice project! I think I'm gonna use this technique for my personnal project. BUT, I was wondering. What would you suggest to make the whole thing waterprooof without beeing shiny (like epoxy) ?
Landrel, I would like to duplicate your work in a rock wall / water wall. Is there anything special I need to do aside from the products you used to make a water wall? Any special treatment for water? Thanks.
Great video. On suggestion i have for you for cutting straight lines on the back side after creating a rock face i would suggest picking up a low cost hot foam cutter from a hobby/craft store.
You should have sprayed something on the foam to harden it before you added grout.......cause I'm using your idea for a mini rock crawler course.....nice job it looks easy how you do it
thx for all things u did but only one question i dont know what is the white and grey substance u applying and coating the urethane foam pls give me all details best reg.
Interesting video many thanks for sharing,,,,, but im wondering how long it took in total to do that small section of rock face . Should you be interested I have 3 videos covering a similar project AN ALTERNATIVE TO PLASTER CLOTH, part one and 2 by Shed Engineering, and just using the cheapest building plaster and using a huge piece of cloth 5 foot long which I soak in the plaster then simply spread over rough foam blocks and or shrink wrap and you can get a five six foot stretch of cliff or rock face done and painted in around 3 hours (Not allowing for the plaster to dry off for a day) I think its easier than trying to paint all that foam with dry wall filler etc,,,, you might find my method of interest,
Yeah I'd be sorry if I was from Argentina too. Remember the Falklands? Pommies smashed you stupid Argies..... General Belgrano. Boom glug glug glug, sink splash, die. Lol
Even epoxy wouldd not hold up long term. I dont really think it could be mDe waterproof unless you used a mortar. But it would be so then it would break down over time...
I wish there was a way this process could be used in a fishtank or vivarium. If anybody seeing this has any experience with using this where water is involved and animal/ fish safety is okay please reply here.

Ciao troppo belli questi video a vedere si impara tante cose si sono interessanti e belli!
Well gee golly that tile grout is an interesting idea, will that leach any toxins in an aquaponic system or alter pH?
how much hard does it get.?? can i use it to make waterfall feature??
Very informative- good job!
hi, These stones can be used for a outdoor waterfall, water fountain or for use in the garden?. thanks
You may be able to use them if you would use a cement or concrete mixture. but the hydrocal would not hold up...
thank you!!!
Great work
that a great technique thanks for posting
I think that is an amazing idea to do rocks and hills....
Great video.

Thanks for showing.. Good idea! Cheers
what's the brownish thing you painted on the foam? and the brownish sand like you pour in it after you spary it with a mixture of water and glue??
I have the same question, Is that the tempura paint powder?
VERY NICE VIDEO ,ONE QUESTION: BECAUSE I AM FROM GREECE ,THIS "PROFORM LITE" YOU USE IT ,WHAT KIND OF MATERIAL IS?
It is a "Joint Compound" as it says on the label.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_compound
very interesting, i did however not catch all the material names(english is not my best language) could you perhaps write them all down?
thx for all things u did but only one question i dont know what is the white and grey substance u applying and coating the urethane foam pls give me all details
best reg.
dry wall compound or tile grout
Awesome video! In your spray bottle you mention a water-glue mixture. What type of glue is it?
Very nice, thanks for this tutorial
VERY GOOD VIDEO. THANK YOU.
Thank you for your tutorial. You can use an electric carving knife to cut foam. The kind you use for your Thanksgiving Turkey! Good Luck.
Thanks for the tutorial. Useful!
i never would have thought of that Landrel Brown
Look awesome!
How strong and durable is it when its dry
would it be suitable for wargaming and D&D terrain?
+Emeric Catudal Yes, the only thing i would change is using some sort of hardening agent on the foam before applying grout like someone else said
thanks, you save me, I'm helping with my son's Diorama.
Beautiful! Thanks!
I would use a box to attaché the foam to instead of my insulation sheets; more cost effective. Great idea though.
This only for indoor rock? Can it stay outdoor?
indoor only

Fast Set 20 Lite Setting-Type Joint Compound works good too
What mixture u applied on foam ??
You should watch the second video . I have started using hydrocal or plaster...ua-cam.com/video/o66KQ4ruL4o/v-deo.html
hello! great work, i'm an italian guy so i can't understand the products name you use to brush foam, can you write it down please? many thanks
I believe that Landrel was using "sanded grout" in this project. (boiacca levigata). We use this between tiles (piastrelle) here.
John Jones thanks!
Gonnna use this on my slot car track
Millions of farts in those cushions. One should name your project Toot Mountain lol
Some old guy farted in that Cushion for 30 years. Awesome Job
But he was a young guy when he began
great I love it will try it
fantastic.. :3 thanks.!!!
nice one
13:02 Buttering a scone?
Watch the second video I used hydrocal/plaster type material...
Ty
have you tried Durham's Rock Hard Water Putty? It really hardens after drying. Available at Home Depot.
+Doug Brewer you can use it but it would not take color like hydrocal or plaster.. you can get plaster at HD also
list of material used in this video
thanks bro..
It gets very hard. But you can't use it with real water. It would eventually degrade. But if kept dry it would last forever...
White first material is Lite Proform, but second, the grey one, what is it? Liquid concrete ? I'm from Argentina, sorry.
Gabriel Esteban it's tile grout
Yeah I'd be sorry if I was from Argentina too. Remember the Falklands? Pommies smashed you stupid Argies..... General Belgrano. Boom glug glug glug, sink splash, die. Lol

You from texas dawg
watch the second video about this and it shows what I use now... you just need Hydrocal or plaster....
And you're from down SOUUUTTHH, lol. Great video.
it tears and looks good that way..it's urethane rubber probably catch on fire
I wish there was a way this process could be used in a fishtank or vivarium. If anybody seeing this has any experience with using this where water is involved and animal/ fish safety is okay please reply here.
Copying this video to my YT playlist... thanks!
Billy Bob Thornton....????? :o
this foam does not work well with heat or fire
I have a question for you, How did you cut that pink foam so straight without it flaking? Every time I cut it, It looks flaky and not smooth..
Clean fresh razor knife...
Make sure you watch part 2..
