  • Here’s a follow up of sorts to the previous video.
    This is the same exact idea over the same chords except starting the melody on the 3rd degree of the major scale.
    This is great for ear training and the overall learning of simple melody and harmony. Have fun with it!

    Thank you Guthrie! To have a musician who has the chops you have, the peers you play with and the schedule you keep, take the time to invite us into your home and share these nuggets of gold with us is beyond generous! You make it seem so attainable. I think you and your buddy Jack Ruch are two of the best teachers to be found!

    These last two lessons have catapulted my playing. I understood the shapes but this is putting it together for me to play real music. Thanks Guthrie, it's opening up the door to changing my musical life. I can't express my gratitude enough.

    Thanks again for these videos. There is so much to chew on in these little "lessons". In fact they don't even seem like lessons. They start with something basic but they go off in many creative directions. As a guitar player Guthrie has risen to a skill level where the creative ideas just come flying out. There is so much to digest here even in twelve short minutes. We are lucky to have someone like this around to impart a wealth of knowledge to us intermediate players who are trying to up our game so to speak. He has the ability to connect underlying theory to the music you can create with that theory. It's like watching an artist turn a bunch of paint on a palette into a finished painting.

    GT - blew my mind!
    It’s like the Indiana Jones super highway for treasures.
    The cross ties are the diatonic notes, where the melody color comes in. My noodling, will now have purpose to be harmonic, with chord shapes.
    I have a lesson coming up and it’s hard to book it, because everything keeps on getting juicier! My virtual brother, love ya man! Spiritual magic that I can pass along to others. Can never thank you enough.

    I've been addicted to a few of the licks and ideas in this video. 0:37 seconds that lick goes up to the IV chord, descends and repeats just beautifully. Been learning that idea all over the place. The C and D Shape licks at 2:11 are beautiful warmup ideas or something. They tickled my ear so I learned them and it kind of led me into ideas for other shapes which I then took through a few progressions. Grateful for the knowledge even when you aren't explicitly saying it, GT.

    Brett Papa did a lesson on the arpeggios that really opened things up but this one string idea? I’ve been doing this so long and I found a Tomo lesson and he was singing the major scale and playing it on one string? I was like WHY is this Berkeley Professor doing this !? Then I tried it and saw I had been trying to put the cart before the horse all those years. Thank you

    Funny, I mapped out CAGED Major scale shapes by letter. Never done that before even though I knew the scales & referred to them by number. Makes sense to me because that’s how I’ve always referred to the pentatonic scale shapes, by letter. Just a matter of choice how you refer to them. Thanks GT.

      He is. But you still have to have something to say with your guitar. A poet needs to learn a language and how to physically write but at some point he has to have an idea of what to say.
      Listen to good music that you love and Players that you like the way they sound.Learn songs. Try to make up a simple musical phrase in your mind and then fish it out everywhere it can be played on guitar. YOU have to develop that creative music muscle in your mind.

    • @guthrietrappmusic
      @guthrietrappmusic  Місяць тому +2

      This is how I play in every situation. It’s all about the song and what’s going on in real time. It’s a language. What you tell the guitar to do is what you’re telling the listener.

    Guthrie many music teachers provide a tab for some of their videos and sell it .we can down load the tab they provide for a fee.

    • @jmwise80
      @jmwise80 Місяць тому

      Get these chord shapes and scales down so good that you can see them with your eyes closed and you won’t need tab again. Use his lack of tab as a catalyst to developing your ear/guitar connection.
