Got to be honest, for $60 the case alone is worth it if you ask me. Those Lian-Li cases were the thing to have in the early 2000s and they still hold up so well today. Some of the best build quality of all time.
no cases have 5.25" bay so good luck putting in SSD or HDD hot swap bays or memmory card plugin bays etc etc resavoir pump combo bays aren't really poppular anymore but, are handy as hell too.
I love the older cases with three or more 5.25" drive bays. If you are making a sleeper build with modern components that will of course create a lot of heat there are people on sites like Etsy making brackets with their 3-D printers to swap out the optical drives and mount 120 mm fans in them instead. Great video.
Brother, you should see if that system board supports a 1333 FSB Speed. If it does I think doing the 3GHz Electrical Tape mod on that q6600 would be sweet!
What I recommend to do with the graphics card is to slit the sticker open to expose the fan bearings and put a little lubricant on it but if you have a replacement then that could work to.
nice find, yes that case is great, those old aluminimum cases with the removable motherboard trays, so sweet. i picked up a couple wavemasters this summer for cheap
I've seen some people sell stuff from 2017 and newer for literally under $100 depending on who it is. Most have the money to upgrade and then just sell their older stuff at a lower cost. Helps us people on budgets to build a great system from used parts. Haha
$60 for a beast of a custom build from the late 2000s? That's actually a pretty solid deal. Makes me miss my old build from 2005 haha. And yeah, those Lian Li cases were awesome. In that time period, Lian Li and Antec made some of the coolest cases.
Just got an old VPR-Matrix Pentium 4 tower system made back in 2001 for $15. It had a bad power supply. Popped a replacement in and it worked perfectly. The case is in pristine condition so I built a sleeper PC out of it but managed to do it with no major case mods at all! It came with the original IDE CD-RW drive as well as a DVD-ROM. I converted the DVD drive to a mounting housing for a 1TB SATA SSD so on the outside the system looks completely stock original. I really enjoy building modern systems into old cases. Plus, I've still got all the original working hardware that was in it originally so I can convert it back if I want to.
If not said yet, the case is a Lian Li PC-7B. I built an i5-750 PC in one back in the day. My side panel was solid tho without that extra fan thing. This video made me nostalgic lol.
Nice one I had a thermal take shark black case with gigabyte mobo x48-dq6 8gb same ddr2 ram same speeed 800mhz and crossfire amd Radeon 4890 1gb each yet on normal mechanical disks ! It was a monster pc back then ‘
I have a machine in that case. It's been a good case over the years. It's currently got a decently powerful mother board in it. As a lark, gutted it and rebuilt the inside using aluminum extrusions. So it's that case build around a extrustion box.
Good old days! You install the version that of drivers came with the device at any date, and it worked like charm! Nowadays so many drivers, updates, but still buggy drivers!
If it has one, check the voltage selector on the power supply. It is often overlooked in troubleshooting, and it is not always set correctly from the factory.
Gosh, that bring good memories to me... I had a setup just like that, very, very similar... Same memory, Corsari XMS, same processor, different motherboard and GPU... Back in that day I would prefer a AMD (ATI) card.
In my opinion, that is a well built case and you got a good deal!👍👍 Once the computer has been well cleaned and restored to working order, then upgrading the ram., to 8 gig., and installing an ssd., and a Linux OS., such as Linux Mint Mate will really improve the performance of that computer. Zorin OS., Core may also work well with that PC., Zorin's default desktop resembles Windows 7, but there are several pre installed desktops to choose from.
That's one big cooler and I think the metal parts on the motherboard box is for the mounting kit for AMD processor (probably AMD Athlon II), and probably if you can get proper mounting kit, it can be used for newer processor (Intel Core i series and AMD Ryzen) and you can replace the cooling fan with newer PWM 120 mm fan (you can get the silent ones or louder high pressure fans, or you can get the PWM fan with RGB LED as well), and the casing is nice too, it even have removable motherboard tray, so you can install the motherboard outside the computer case on the motherboard tray, and the hard disk tray is also removable, but unfortunately, if you have big modern GPU card, the hard disk cage might get in the way
Man, i see this pc and just scream to me Maplestory and Combat Arms lol, having 4 ddr2 slots for 8 GB action and capable to hold processors like Q6600 you can really pretty much play many game of 2008 era. Very entertaining and nostalgic video hope to see more in the future.

@@radradR0bot It's a similar mod but your motherboard has to support a 1600mhz fsb since the Q9550 operates at 1333mhz and those 1600mhz motherboards are rare.
This "time machine" looks like it ha been build with some love (and money, of course😂)! Those copper pipes around the cpu socket and the chipset are quite rare but they kinda reveal that the mainboard might even be some "high end" of its time, right!? Side note: if I have some PC on the bench (for whatever reason) I check the PSU first with a PSU Tester. And I always take out the mainboard to change coolers etc. Much easier and less cuts 😂
That case is awesome for a server build due to it having lots of room for drives. Get a caddy for the 5.25" drive bays and you have even more. Don't know what you store your video on but this might be the case for building a storage server with TrueNAS. Like your content.
Bought a PC from an old friend it was ex PC Specialist a leading PC company in the UK, it was worth a lot when new and he just sunk 2000 into another in 2020 at the height of the PC boom, it had a 2060 super which was worth 500 on it's own and 6700k, got the whole rig for 250, and it had the same issue, turn on then off, then would turn on and stay on, could never get to the bottom of it but seeing this backs up my theory now, but like you have shown it's trial and error, take away part then another to you isolate the issue.
if you're looking or a bitcoin wallet this pc is about 5 years to old for that. You'd want something from 2011 minimum. It's a nice era though, 2006 ish, i was a sophomore in high school and wanted a q6600, but ended up with an Athlon 5200 x2.
I'd clean it up factory, remove any unneeded bays & shields, pick up a new HDD & era-matching GPU off ebay for around $20. Preload it with era specific games, and post for $200 aiming to settle for $160. Nearly double your money on this old boy. Great vid! Good luck with this one.
This would have been a pretty capable budget LAN machine back around 06-07, 08 at the latest. A legit copy of XP x64 would have been a little on the expensive side around that time. What I would do is keep it in the same config as you bought it while replacing the PSU and enjoy some gaming of the era.
Nice! I scored a LianLi case recently with 1st gen i5 without the plexi on the side but looks the same from the front built to be a mid-range gamer. I would have dropped $60 for this setup too :)
That cpu cooler is super nice. I loved the Asus p5n series boards back in the day. I still have a q9 quad core. Can't remember which one. I just know it was the fastest one. I also have an evga sli motherboard for it. I definitely want to put something together for my work shop with those parts.
Nothing wrong with a core 2 Duo for someone who just needs to surf the web, do email, and office or school work. Add an SSD and they perform just fine; I have an E8400, without an add in GPU, running Win10 22h2 that I'm using to experiment with PCem as an Old School gaming system.

Hi DLM! Love this channel brother. I have an old HP Pavilion case from around 2008 era, and was wondering if you know the pin out for the front IO connector? Thanks in advance!

short on one of the parts. system turns on, tries to post, trips SCP, shuts off to prevent damage. the other power supply probably failed due to poor SCP implementation.
This is the kind of kit you sell at a garage sale.. i've made it a tradition to swap my rig parts to an old system as I upgrade incase the rig deep 6's for diag purposes.. had to get rid of an aging case in favor of one with case fan speed controllers and updated ports. Btw, I now have the Be Quiet! pure base 600. Very solid. One sata internal blu ray and one external blu ray. This case should last 10y at least. Old case could not fit a 7900xt gpu without cutting drive bays.
I could see why no one wanted the PC although the Core 2 Quad with an appropriate GPU and RAM isn't a bad gaming PC. Obviously, 4 GB RAM isn't going to be enough to run modern games and even 8 GB won't be enough to handle games that need 16 GB, but a lot of 7th Gen (PS3/Xbox 360 era) games will work fine on 4 GB RAM. One thing to note for anyone using an old Core 2 gaming PC, some later games like Assassin's Creed 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Bioshock Infinite, and Saints Row IV require Windows Vista, so they would not run on XP. Likewise, many games from 2014+ are 64-bit only and/or DX 11 which likely won't work on Windows XP even with Professional x64 Edition. A downside of old gaming PCs is getting games since Steam dropped Windows XP and Vista long ago and recently dropped Windows 7 and 8, and the same applies to Origin and uPlay. Likewise, most games around the late 2000s/early 2010s required activation, so I don't think getting it on DVD will help. There is, however, a workaround that could allow Steam to be installed on Windows XP. Despite this, you can still play disc games that are DRM free (i.e., don't require Steam) such as The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, and games downloaded from GOG will work if the original game was compatible with Windows XP. Also, some Steam games are DRM-free although this isn't advertised.
I'm just real curious and I'm not being a smart-ass I just got done watching the video or close to the end they actually make 256 gigabyte video cards cuz you said in the video I just want to know if you could let me know please
Sir, with all respect, I must disagree with your purchase of that PC. The 775 socket is simply too old (20 years) and that P5N board will really only support 4 GB (stably) of DDR2-800 RAM; even when Asus claimed 8 GB. I had one with a Q9550 Core 2 Quad and it was a nightmare. The MB died 2.5 years after I purchased it.

Despite this, you can still play disc games that are DRM free (i.e., don't require Steam) such as The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, and games downloaded from GOG will work if the original game was compatible with Windows XP. Also, some Steam games are DRM-free although this isn't advertised.
Jackpot 👍

Sir, with all respect, I must disagree with your purchase of that PC. The 775 socket is simply too old (20 years) and that P5N board will really only support 4 GB (stably) of DDR2-800 RAM; even when Asus claimed 8 GB. I had one with a Q9550 Core 2 Quad and it was a nightmare. The MB died 2.5 years after I purchased it.
