I love the Hungarian take on Death. He wants to get close to her but can’t bring himself to, knowing it would kill her. He’s more troubled, the others are great as well

    Korean Parts:
0:31 Der Tod : 세상의 진리가 무너져.(The truth of the world collapses.)
0:49 Der Tod : 숨소리조차 내 가슴에 깊이 박혀. (Even the sound of breathing is deeply embedded in my heart)
1:20 Der Tod : 내 안에서 네 꿈을 찾아.(Find your dream within me.)
2:03 Der Tod : 기억해, 어디서든 내가 곁에 있어. (Remember, I'm by your side wherever you are.)
2:22 Elisabeth : [난 이미 원하죠] 당신 안에서 숨쉬기를. ([I already want] to breathe in you.) / Rudovika : 열이 있어.(She has a fever.)
Btw this number had deleted before the latest performance was on stage in Korea. It's amazing to watch the video.

I didn’t even know this one made it into German. Hungarian is still my favorite but it is also my favorite of the productions so I’m a bit biased, especially the 2004 cast.

I think it wasn't in the German version from the beginning. The song in its stead used to be "black prince", which I prefer, but this song shows death falling in love, which is kinda cute.

Such a lovely song. It's kinda cool how additions to different versions of the musical can influence later performances, even back to the German version, which you'd think would be the one that others base their changes on. Makes it feel like one ever going collaboration.
It's such a shame that so many of the Takarazuka versions are in a different key, it makes the multi-language videos feel incomplete without them. (please note I love these videos and the work you put in, I'm not saying your vids are incomplete. Not your fault the Takarazuka versions are incompatible.)

Just me upset that I can’t find the whole version of the Korean 🥲🥲🥲 but ngl since the Takarazuka version was my first introduction to Elisabeth, this song is my favorite, and it sounds so beautiful in so many different languages 💕💕💕
But also, the Hungarian 1996 vocals tho. Those runs. I swoon every time

Maté is the only one who sells this song in German for me. Probably, because he is the most "human" of German Deaths. Still should've remained Japan exclusive imho. But lovely songanyways

Thank you for uploading another Elisabeth video! Rondo is very lovely song. It's a good number. But... I think that song doesn't match with entire musical slightly. Because 《Elisabeth》 is not just 'a love story' between Tod and Elisabeth...(just my opinion :) )

    • @yoyoeldas
      @yoyoeldas 3 роки тому +22

D.H. K I agree. Interesting fact, Rondo was indeed written with a different intention in mind. It's commonly known as Rondo because it was specifically written for the Japanese production by the all-female Takarazuka troupe. The original premise of Elisabeth was that Tod was the Empress' suicidal intentions personified, and the show would detail the many times she danced upon the brink of death. It is because of that that at the very end, after she finally submits to Tod, after one passionate kiss, he leaves her on the ground and walks away-because Tod is entirely in his mind. But this would be too dark for Takarazuka's renowned "fantasy aesthetic," not to mention the troupe's tradition of portraying a strong male romantic lead falling in love with a girl. And so, Rondo was written so that Tod could actually becoming a male romantic protagonist, who has fallen in love with the beautiful Elisabeth and vows to pursue her. It's a completely different (but, imo, still valid) interpretation of the story, to see Tod as an actual character passionately in love with the lively Sissi, and it seems that subsequent productions have taken this direction too (From Uwe to Máté to Mark Seibert, Tod's character design seems to be more and more humanized and earthly).
But personally I'd still prefer the original interpretation, with Schwarzer Prinz rather than Rondo. It's a tough call, cuz Rondo is so beautiful, but it does diminish the psychological part of Elisabeth's journey... Perhaps it'd fit better as a bonus track :D

Yeah, this song might humanizing Der Tod too much, but at least in the Hungarian version the lyrics makes it work. It shows Halál's turmoil over Elisabeth and fascination with her and why he keeps hovering around her through her entire life. (Unless of course we see him as a personification of depression.)
