    I have a 2530 from 1994 and it looks great, except for about an inch of black on one side. I have an Extron VSC 700 that can move the picture horizontally and vertically to fix the issue, but it’s tough to find RGB cables for different consoles that are compatible with Extron. If I get brave one day I will reference this video and adjust the H position as you show here. Awesome video sir! You’re a hero.

    Is there a cap kit or list for this? Also would you recommend changing the caps for any other board other than the geometry board?

    This is fantastic! I just started following you as you have the best information for calibrating CRT tvs. I just found a KV-32FS120 Trinitron and found out how to access the service menu but have no idea which of the hundred of settings do what. The service manual tells you what the abbreviations mean but no description on what they do for the most part. Like PAMP is pin amp? I didn’t know what that setting did and I don’t feel particularly comfortable just adjusting all willy nilly. This video helped to show what a few of the frequently adjusted settings are. Thanks!

    Great video. Really enjoyed it. I recently picked up a KV M14 CRT which has inward pincushion on only the right hand side of the screen. Would this be indicative of anything hardware wise such as a capacitor failure or is this something that can be adjusted through a service menu?

    My pin amp is slightly off on my 2730QM. Is it the kind of correction I could easily perform on my own (as a complete novice who’s never opened a CRT)?

    Stupid questions, that grid patern the red and white one. Which position should it be? Should you see the entire red squares?

    The result on the geometry is perfect after adjusting, but that PVM has major issues on its convergence. Have you did something to correct that? I have a pretty similar monitor, a 2130QM, and it's starting to have issues with its convergence on one corner, but I think that has to be corrected with convergence strips. However, on this one, convergence on the corners is quite awful...

    • @RetroTechUSA
      @RetroTechUSA  4 роки тому +1

      That's a drawback to all these older PVMs, the larger ones especially have pretty bad convergence compared to newer and more high end CRTs. I adjusted the rings and even swapped out a different yoke and this was the best I could get it at the end if the day. It also should be mentioned that I only was using SVideo, so the picture is a bit less sharp than RGB will be.

    i have a question: i have old sony trinitron from 1998 (not pvm, just normal consumer TV) and when using composite and there is no signal (meaning its just displaying black screen with av2 icon in the corner) the blacks are PERFECT, you wouldnt even be able to tell it is turned on if thst icon wasnt there but whenever it gets signal from ANY of my consoles like ps2 or ps1 the black looks washed out and grayish but ONLY when it recieves signal, when i turn the console off then black level is perfect again, could that mean the tube is worn out or some electronics failed?

    Hello, my Pvm 2054qm is fine but does not retain settings. I do press degauss two times to save and no remote is configured, but seems to loose all complicate settings I do in advanced menu. Any ideas? Thanks so much..

    I just picked up a PVM-8044q. Do you have a cap kit for it? And maybe access to schematics? The net has only come up with *some* of the info -- but no schematics. Thanks in advance.

    great video, need to re cap my 2530. one question my pvm has faded red color on top right corner, you think can be solved by re cap or is it just a tired red tube?

    Any idea why I wouldnt be able to adjust the horizontal size on a CRT in the service menu? When I change the value, it does nothing. I can change the horizontal position, vertical position, and vertical size, but NOT horizontal size despite there being a setting for it.

    • @RetroTechUSA
      @RetroTechUSA  4 роки тому +1

      That was the same original problem with this 2030. When I tried to adjust it before a recap, many of the trim pots did nothing. After a recap, evertrhing worked great. It may be that one of the capacitors on the horizontal size line has failed. I'd try recapping.

      @@RetroTechUSA I opened up my TV. I am seeing 3 different PCBs. A small one behind the yoke, a big one at the very bottom of the TV with all the power connectors going into it and a smaller PCB next to my inputs. Which board should I be looking at with regards to re-capping? I heard of a geometry board but I am not sure which one that is. There are a ton of caps and I dont wanna replace more than what I have to.

    • @dudeguy7347

      I noticed in your video you are able to manually adjust the parameters on that PVM. On the CRT I have, I dont see any holes like that on any of the boards, or any words like "h size". The only thing I am seeing is the adjustment things at the back of the yoke but I believe in another video you said those were just for the color

    Cheap way to laod patterns into a RGB only screen?

    • @coopercummings8370
      @coopercummings8370 3 роки тому

      If you are still looking for an answer, 240p test suite has been ported to pretty much every major console, so anything you have any kind of flash cart for should work, or a soft modded wii or a gamecube you can run homebrew on. Alternatively, with some configuration in config.txt on a raspberry pi, you can get an hdmi to vga adapter, a scart head, a vga cable, and a couple cheap components to make a cable that will convert 15khz RGBHV over vga to 15khz RGBs compatible with scart. If you already have the pi, you only need about $30 of parts.

    • @jaimeb.384
      @jaimeb.384 3 роки тому

      @@coopercummings8370 that is, I loaded it on my PI. It just bothers me depending which system I run it in (Ms, Snes, Nes, etc) everything has a different res and a different config.

    Hi
    Excuse me, my English is not good.
    I live in Germany and would like to buy two Sony CRTs.
    Could you help me with the restoration? A few tips in an emergency. =) Unfortunately I have no experience.
    The models:
    Sony PVM-1440QM
    Sony PVM-2130QM
    I will connect the Commodore 64 and a Super Nintendo to it.
    Best regards
    Florian
