    I have only ever ridden my 2015 Dyna Street Bob. Test rode the new 2018. Sound was disappointing, but can be done through a change of exhaust. The lack of shaking really struck me. I'm used to the meat in my arms jiggling with vibration. Sorta missed it, to be honest. These new models are much more maneuverable in slow circles. Also I tired to scrape the foot peg, but could not. That's damn good. When I applied the throttle, I could really feel the rear wheel spinning and the power being put down. 3rd gear had torque for daaayyys. I miss the vibration of the engine, and the character it exudes - but what we have, gentlemen, in this new modal is a better, more plush and relaxed fashion. It's where the American comfort of cruising needed to go. It's a damn good product, here.

      andrew dreyer I too was shocked no vibration. I can do without if I can have the Harley-Davidson sound. In the spring getting a new Softail. I also have an old Sportster 1200 nice little shake that smooths out to no shake I'm keeping for life.

    You just made me want one. For 2021, the 114 just puts that extra cherry on top.

      Good observation. I bought a 2018 FXBB first bike ever. Thoroughly happy with it. The customization potential has gotten fantastic. Hope to have it around for a long time.

    Adam! What's crack-a-lackin! Very nice review, Sir. I am actually pretty impressed that you are - pretty impressed with these new machines! The Internet has been on fire since HD made the big reveal. I have been somewhat amused by the hardcores lamenting the death of the Dyna, and oh what has Harley done now, they are turning their backs on their loyal rider base - you have most likely seen and read this stuff. But I respectfully beg to differ. I think that when it is all said and done Harley is finally starting to move in the right direction. These new chassis' look very solid and are a big step up from what they used to be. The new M8 engines are delivering the goods and though they had a few early problems it seems like those early bugs are going to get worked out quickly. We all knew they could not keep going the way they were - the market was leaving them behind. It's adapt or die, and even Harley is not immune to that. So I applaud the efforts they are making to step up and build a better bike.
    Make no mistake, this is still not the machine for me but it's good to see them making progress. Makes you wonder what else they have in store for us!

      Hi Dennis - yeah man, it's cool that they made such a drastic change.
      In reality they had to. They are clearly under pressure to reduce costs and sell more machinery - so this strategy puts it toward that trajectory.
      We're going to see The Motor Company under sustained pressure for decades to come. But it's good to see that they are evolving and attempting to adapt to current (and future) economic and motorcycling landscapes.
      As long as I got a fair deal on a 2018 Softail, I'd buy one.

    Harley has always had great fit and finish.

    • @RidersDomain
      @RidersDomain  6 років тому +1

      It's certainly better than its American rivals. However when compared to some foreign built machinery, at a similar price point, it was not. That is rapidly changing.

      No you are wrong. I have owned 12 motorcycles, two Hondas, four Kawasaki's, two Yamahas, and one Suzuki and a 1976 Triumph which I still own. I also own two H-D and my testimony is they have always had better fit and finish. I'm 67 now and you better not try and make out here that your opinion carries more weight than mine. Based upon what?

    • @markhenry192
      @markhenry192 6 років тому +1

      I agree. It always leaves me scratching my head when you hear folks say the fit and finish is below par on Harleys. Owning a 2017 48 the fit and finish through out is perfection, flawless even!

      Amrish Kumar it’s fast, it has a 107 - 1750 CC’s. So stripped down she’s going to run. But if you don’t want a Sportster this is your bike.

      I’ll second that. I want to put a big round tach up front behind an FXRT style fairing. I want to see the needle in my peripheral vision without actually looking at it.

    Was going to buy the new model but they got rid of the fatbob tank. The larger tank was the very reason I was going to get one. Thinking about an Indian now

    Are any of the Moto Journalists going to do some investigative work on whether the Sportster meets Euro 5 standards? Euro 4 standards required ABS on all new bikes as of June 2016 along with a hydrocarbon parts per million & raw fuel venting that the V-Rod, H-D 103 motor and other MFRS bikes (Victory) could not meet. January of 2018 appears to be the deadline for Euru 5 compliance.

    I hear Harley has a new Stylist. Fire him. That tiny headlamp has to go, as well as shiity looking digital readout. Mount the damn gauges on the tank and make that tank a damn fatbob!

    • @RidersDomain
      @RidersDomain  6 років тому

      Strong words - we like its new clothes. However we agree with you in regard to the size of the LCD readout.

    • @andrewdreyer7765
      @andrewdreyer7765 6 років тому

      If I may interject here, gentlemen: Coming from the Street Bob 15, I think the reason they went digital is because the older modals have a tendency to have the speedometer cloud up due to condensation. This sometimes blocks off my rev counter. No big deal, it goes away but I think this is their method of getting rid of it. Shame too, I liked the analogue. Gave it an air of luxury.

      Trenton Reid sportster are what they are. They are sportsyers. The street series I'm not a fan of either but looks like a good beginner bike. I have a 15 street bob. Not a fan of new ones. I wouldn't personally purchase one

    Gotta Street Bob seating really sucks it doesn't keep you on the motorcycle when you crack the throttle you slide off and in your hand jerks the throttle back and then you're about ready to fly off the bike Harley needs to change that seat
