Well, I'm kinda joking, but it's actually a legitimate question. It would certainly work either way and a square plate would have a larger surface area and could potentially accommodate larger work pieces. I just felt that matching the rotary table would look better and work about as well.

Is there a particular reason why you didn’t want the corners left on the square aluminum plate? Just curious
So the corners don't rip my knuckles off when I crank it around making round cuts.
