Today I'm gonna tell you the story than happened during the StarCraft 2 match . It was Tefel vs MVP, an underdog vs one of the most talented and accomplished players in the world at that time. It should've been an easy 2-0 for MVP, but somehow it got absolutely crazy - there begins the story of one of the biggest throws in esports history and certainly in StarCraft 2 Tefel StarCraft 2 career ended some time after that, but this match remains in history of sc2 forever!

The worst throw ever is Rain vs InCa from GSL May 2011 Code S Ro32. It's so, so bad.
@@SoundwaveSC I'll check it out, I think this one was the worst
@@EsportsStoryteller The famous Idra rage quits to hallucinated colossi, etc.
Denver vs Gungfubanda from the ESL Pro Tour 2021 stands out to me. I've rarely seen such an infuriating game.
@@kozatas Such a classic
This may be the greatest pro throw of all time, but for me this happens about every saturday
True :D
I see what you're saying, but, The biggest throw in starcraft 2 history was when Idra quit a game he was going to win because of hallucinated units.
Yes, that was it no doubt
I remember this one. I've had a lot of ladder games like this where I get ahead against T with an attack and keep attacking and throw my lead. Its like Artosis says: when you're ahead, get more ahead.
Yeah it's painful on any level, but it was suprising to see such a game from a proplayer.
Never trade against a turtling Terran.
It's crazy how much the players have improved over the years. Watching older replays can sometimes just be a little ugly!
Yeah, now the game feels way faster
Great players of the past would have been great today. They’d have just adjusted to the meta and playstyles of the era.
Either that, or you believe that a player like Solar would have dominated the planet in 2012 (I think he’d be exactly what he is now; gatekeeper to the stars).
@@igit_7296 If today's Solar went back in time to 2012 he'd absolutely dominate the scene, at least for a while before others catch up to him.
@@Saritiel no…because Solar did not get to where he is in a vacuum. He observed other players around him. He practices against his peers. He is - like all players - a product of his times.
@@igit_7296 yes but he's saying if today's solar played in 2012 he'd be unbeatable
I feel like the biggest throw was Idra rage quitting to HuKs illusion army.
True, it's sure thing among top 5 famous throws!
Man, that one had me rolling on the floor laughing. I mean, yeah idea had a habit of throwing games early, but even with that habit I was amazed he didn't wait long enough to realize they were hallucinated. It's not like hallucinations do damage (plus they take double damage), so just waiting a bit would have shown him they weren't actually real.
Terran's not dead until they're dead. This is a perfect example of it. If a zerg attack can't force terran to GG and quit the game, there's always a chance Terran can win.
True!
I love these videos. I remember seeing most of this stuff live and you do a great, accurate analysis of it. These are great for anyone trying to learn about eSports history.
Thanks!
lol
Each video is a handling baneling of nostalgia, thanks for making these!!
A throw so extreme, you'd want to investigate for match fixing.
more videos please! great stuff!
Thanks! I'll try making one per day
Could you do a video on Heart's incredible comeback vs Xi Gua with 7 scvs remaining and lings all over the terran base? I remember Axiom/TB even did a video on him surviving. Also, would love a spot light on Captain America Polt and his incredible career, Billy the marine and him even becoming the current GM of SKT T1's current LOL team
ua-cam.com/video/OaQxOhbb20Q/v-deo.html This is the video from TB's channel about that game
Another idea for a vid is possibly diving into the story of the evolution of strategy such as Marine splits (Boxer, MarineKing, Maru), Ling Micro (Life, Dark) or evolution of Mech vs bio (Innovation vs Taeja)
Thanks, I'll check it out! Polt is sure on my list for the future
Back in WoL there was a finals with two korean TvP and the terran was like 3-0 I think and threw the game and then got reversed sweep into 4-3 in favor of the protoss. Also can't forget when korean terran Innovation lost what would be a 4-0 victory vs a korean zerg player. Think it was in GSL.
I think you're talking about MVP - Squirtle match and Innovation-Soulkey if I'm correct :) But these were really skillful comebacks!
MVP the king of comebacks. Heart of a champion.
True
Still the single most dominant player at any given time
Very odd at the middle of the video. "Does he have enough economy to bounce back, I don't think so" says a caster... meanwhile the guy has like 900 mules farming for him..
Yeah but I guess if Tefel just stayed back defensively he could've had 82 drones against like... 40 SCVs + mules? It was still a very favorable position to be in
Man this happened ages ago, but somehow I still kind of remember watching it. I don't know if I would call it hilarious though. It was kind of sad to watch.
Yeah I think it was more painful to watch, I feel sorry for Tefel, it must've been such a sad loss
Wasn't the worst when hydra left, because he saw some hallucinations....
Yeah, it was funny too
Great video
Thanks!
Мда, Бассет, как всё меняется. В 2013 году был киберспортивный матч, а сейчас кажется битвой двух упрямых лбов из золота))
i have to say i though that MMA vs Idra was worse , but im not quite sure after watching this one
anyone who has played roaches has seen this happen many, many times. its just because of mules especially back then and the fact that roaches are fucking terrible
as long as the terran had 3 cc's they werent dead, in fact they were almost completely fine. thats how bad roaches actually were back then without ravagers.
Yeah, ravagers changed the game for good, I also remember being constantly all-ined by sentry-immortal pushes
@@EsportsStoryteller the only time i was really able to kill a terrandoing this style when theyre third CC was done was with muta switches, and as a professional he definitely should have thought of something, but i also understand the pain of losing from this position
a) Attacking Turtel Terra
b) Fustration killed the Zerg
1 mule = 5 workers lol
😐 He lost his momentum. He should have attacked him from the back of the base with his own air drops or Brood Lords, or Infested
Terrans, and surrounded him, keeping him from leaving.
Keep his SCVs repairing, not mining & it's GG.
🤦♂️
Yeah, was sad to see him throw such a game. Probably nerves were really hard on him
gosh, mvp held this match! l want to watch it .and the player is famous for his bcs stuck at blackhole it was a super powerful ability in mothership.combine with storm and archone .l want to hear mvp story.
Yea the legendary Archon Vortex Toilet
It was the game against Squirtel, one of the most iconic matches in StarCrarft 2 history! I think I'll do about MVP someday :)
@@EsportsStoryteller Yes please do it!
roaches are useless once tanks are out
what a painful match to watch XD
Funny it's both best and worst performance by these 2 players :D
This shows how powerful mules were during WoL and HoTS. 5 mules = about 20 scvs. If MVP was playing with different race he would 100% lose. There was plenty of similary games in sc2 history.
Yeah true, they're still pretty good
If he was another race he wouldn’t have been in the same position ;)
Poor guy
he is 1 of the best of best terran player in my life
Wasn't roach/hydra trash against Terran during those years? Tefel kinda asked for it
It was okay if you had vipers and infestors
Can any more ads fit in this vid?
Sorry, I didn't check it out myself and YT randomized them. It should however show you most of the ads since YT algorithm only shows some bases on your previous watching experience and it shouldn't overfeed you with commercials
I miss Apollo casting
Too...
6 min in and already had 6 ads.. thats brutal..
I'll fix that, sorry
Life had some bigger throws
But they were match fixed
Attakemove vs promicro
To be fair to Tefel, he wasn't ever really that good. As an SC2 ladder player yeah he was decent but he wasn't in that very exclusive top percentile of players that could win high level tournaments, he struggled enough at iSeries where his competition was Fargo, BlinG and TLO so the Koreans would have had him for lunch generally.
And that's pretty much leading to what happens here, he could have won but the pressure got too much. It would have been a massive upset.
THE POWER OF PROTOSS
But there's no protoss here...
@@EsportsStoryteller As a terran visions of protoss haunt me wherever I go...
Min 20still on 3 base is this silver rank?
Back then bases had way more minerals, so there was really no urgency to expand like there is now. Not to mention, you started with less workers which delayed everything by about 3 minutes or so.
It was normal for Hots and WoL, the economy system was different
Sooooo... mules...
Amazing come back, but this is a thing i never liked. A korean being an european champion? never had sense.
Please do not call OP Terran BS as a throw
Well, he could've won that game for sure, just with a different strategy
Terran imba
They indeed were strong in early HotS
Lol what a clickbait, how is this a throw?
Well he lost having an insane advantage... why not a throw?
@@EsportsStoryteller We clearly have different opinion on what ”insane” means. If we change pov, mvps micro and defense cleary was very good. So fun and somewhat swingy game but a throw, not even close tbh.
@@Almsberg Well, it was considered a throw by most of the players/casters and the community. I agree it's not terrible, but he clearly had a good advantage. But I agree, MVP did an amazing job making a comeback here!
@@EsportsStoryteller Yeah I mean im crap at this game but like watching so I obv have no merit(is that the correct use of that word?) here but its just my opinion😂🥷🏻
Lol dude it's not clickbait. This is widely considered one of the greatest pro comebacks in sc2. Even the announcers were eluding to it.
This wasnt even a throw. This was just typical zerg vs terran games, not being able to take the lead and go for a macro game. Once Terran has tanks, and you haven't tech switched past roaches, you're dead.
You should do more research for your videos before making such a clickbaity video like this one.
I don't think it's a clickbait. In Hots you already had vipers to drag tanks out and there were other means to fight with them. He just took a couple of really bad engagements while also not expanding his economy
I wouldn’t get too worried about some Zerg complaining about terrans.
