  • **Please note, I no longer use and cannot recommend Dixie Belle Paint products due to highly questionable business practices, contract violations, and unethical treatment of artists and retailers that led to mine and numerous others resignations in late 2021. Please see the links below for more information. I have chosen to leave this video content up for learning purposes only, but highly recommend considering other products when trying to achieve these same techniques. There are too many good product brands on the market to support a brand with these practices. I've included links to my most used options below

    I am noticing the Antique empire chest behind the secretary desk....I actually have a REALLY Old original empire chest that has those hand made dovetails (where there's only a few per drawer back/front where you know they did by hand Kuz there not symetrical..also has hand made nails as those are Definitely not symetrical) and the entire Chest has been Chiselled and hand planed as well as quarter sawn oak. .it's just an amazing piece and I believe the empire chest I have is Very early 1800s....this is one of many awesome finds my husband has stumbled across. That I Need to figure out what colors would be awesome for this special piece

    I totally understand what you're saying where this furniture painting is Not simple and Does take TONS of time and expertise as far as fixing and cleaning and lots of prep work....I actually got into this where the Chronic pain I live with daily(fibromyalgia/rheumatoid/levoscoliosis and was Bedridden for over 4 yrs where my husband had to learn to take care of me)...so turmeric from QNOL brand 4 years ago my husband started giving to me and slowly I emerged from the bed and wheelchair ....So I Needed so desperately to Find something that I would enjoy and get my muscles and body back moving...so I started doing diy crafts and painting decor and Then my granddaughter wanted me to paint and transform a vanity for her ...and that led to Me painting furniture for her New Paris themed room. ..To My husband and family Seeing how my pieces turned out ...and he said bring home various furniture pieces and then I'd paint them and somebody Wud buy....at this point my body was responding well with this New form if therapy....I veered away from the cheaper pieces when my husband came home with an antique Lanes cedar chest and on my Down days (as I still suffer from my disability) I Wud get into the History and story behind these Antique and vintage furniture he was finding for me....so he made me a workshop out back and built me large work tables and made sure things were set up for my Disability friendly ...so I can just go out back and I'm protected by the elements and everything is set up for me...so this brings me current (sorry for my long story Brandy haha...but You Inspired me to Tell You my Starting story after hearing this podcast with Fionna)...So I'm a newborn with Chalk paint on furniture with bigger pieces so I get intimidated...so This is most the reason to why I am watching all your videos .Being I did this backwards....You give me the Inspiration to Get me going with chalk painting on my Stash Pile of Very unique Antique furniture I've collected. ....thanks for Being You dear ur awesome

    Since the topic of the business came up, are there ever pieces that don't sell? How long do you hang on to them before repainting, or what do you do with them?

    • @BrushedbyBrandy

      I rarely repaint, prefer to restage them or discount before repainting

      I was wondering that as well.

    OK so why don't you use Slick stick on this piece? Just because it is real wood and not particle board? I just want to know what the difference in the two are.

    • @BrushedbyBrandy
      @BrushedbyBrandy  4 роки тому

      Boss is a stain and odor blocker, slick stick is a gripping primer. Either scuff sand & boss or slick stick, should never need both. This one was definitely a bleeder, so stain blocking was paramount

    Why don’t you take the drawers out and clean between or paint the edges first?

    • @BrushedbyBrandy
      @BrushedbyBrandy  4 роки тому

      Need to get a consistent blend across the fronts first
