Planning a basement remodel and had a few questions, but I'll post them on the relevant videos. Do you know of any alternatives to DMX that you use in the basement flooring that's available in USA? Should you frame on top of DMX 1 Step (which is available in the US but is fairly expensive) or just use pressure treated bottom boards and use DMX 1 step inside of the framing? I'm looking to do both a carpeted area and a vinyl (maybe electrically heated after seeing your bathroom video)...what subfloor option would you recommend that's available in the US?
I'm a huge metal fan (over 80 cfm) and now also a fan of this channel (1:10:13)
Hi I wish I knew an perfectionist contractor like you. Old house with steam pipes which prevents me to close all of my ceilings. Ceiling I was told can't be closed due to old lg pipes. I am very unhappy if I knew this I wouldn't have purchased this home. Thanjs
Colt Templin ll
Can you come to Vancouver Island and build my house please.
I found it hilarious that in one scene, he was talking about eye PPE, and in the very next scene he has a shiner! haha. Great video Jeff. You are a wealth of knowledge!
Ok, 10 months into the "Rona" binge watching and I'm ready to doze the house and start over after watching this channel. Not sure if I've found the holy grail of home ownership or the gates of constant improvement hell. Either way I feel equipped with the knowledge to kick ass. Thanks for the in depth and honest explanations. You are a true DYI champion! Bob Vila who?? Ok, might be showing my age. Keep the great vids coming and thanks so much!,
My god has Rona been two years ago?? I’m 19 and feel like I’m 40 😭😭
I rent a studio apartment and I'm watching this at 5:00am. My Dad instincts are seriously kicking in.
Hi Jeff! I must say I appreciate ALL of your channels and videos so much. My father, an avid DIYer who made a point to try and pass those skills off to his children, passed away in May of this year. My partner and I just bought our first home and are taking on some projects that seem large and nerve racking! Mainly hardwood floor refinishing, subfloor and basement floor installation, etc. But your videos have helped us so much, and even though my Dad can’t be here to help out with the house or teach us what he knows, I feel that I can trust you the way I did him! THANK YOU, your videos mean a lot!
What other channels does he have?
I do this shit for a living... Why the hell did I just watch someone else do the same thing for 3 hours?!
I need help... There is something wrong with me...
THis business can definitely mess with sanity. Cheers!
No chit. Me too. LoL. Must be the good music. Or too tired to change the channel.
Ha ha....vicariously we compare our own techniques with a guy that's taken the time to spell it out! Hey, I learned a couple things off this guy! just not the HVAC part (I'm an HVAC Mechanic of twenty five years)
Tim Falardeau lol
@Home RenoVision DIY do you renovate also old houses? I am planning to renovate my house fully, Getting some quotes from the contractors.
Its 5:30 am I should have been asleep hoirs ago! But i feel I'm learning something important. THANK YOU and DAMN YOU!
This isn't Instagram , you can always watch more tomorrow. Cheers!
Dude...I did the same, it's 6:50am. Need sleep but glad I watched it.
4:45am here, I'm supposed to be waking up for work in a couple of hours.
2:36 am here!
We all fell for it 😅
34:38 Reads instructions! Sometimes, the manufacturers do change product. I'm in love with this guy. 😍 And he squares things. Why do I never have someone like this on my crews?
We recently did a video at the home of one of our viewers who renovated their basement using our videos as their guide. It was sooo Ugly before and they did an awesome job. check this out! ua-cam.com/video/nyqj2vCqVxM/v-deo.html
Home RenoVision DIY I would like to get in touch and in contact with the builder! Am African, I living in Germany 🇩🇪! I would love to learn and work with you! My father wanted me to work as a builder, but I was young and navy didn’t pay much attention to it! Now my dad it’s dead and I want to do it and am ready! Please kindly write me back and let’s start talking and see how things work out!! Thank you and am supper amazed but the outcome of the work! Very clean neat and wonderful!! My name its Nana!
Jeff, this is the first of your videos I've watched. I plan on watching many more! I truly love how you don't sugar coat things. You don't make it look like everything is perfect first try. You work like how most of us looking to learn will work. Short cuts on wood happen. Mistakes happen. Fix what is wrong and move on. I would much rather learn from someone like you, an honest man, than from some hot shot that tells you that you can be a master in just an hour! Thanks for the realistic teaching and true help for all of us out there!
Life is unfair and it is better to know how to deal with problems than to refuse to accept they exist

This video explains everything and why. Hard to find videos that get to the point and give basic answers as to why they chose to do it the way they did. Over three hours long and packed with fluff free information. Happy to add it to my liked videos for viewing on my own channel.
Thank you, we are trying to help home renovators, Not as worried about the entertainment aspect.
Handy
Yes I agree. I enjoy watching videos where they explain the “why” behind what they are doing.
He's really good. Explains everything but how to get a black eye.
2:11:00 crown is one of my favorite DIY jobs. Having an older house, I worked in a step where after the first piece is up, take a scrap piece about 2' long and cut the corner to the right angle/bevel. Then hold that scrap piece into the corner up against the piece already in place. If the angle is off, adjust the saw and re-cut the end off the scrap piece. Keep adjusting the cut until the scrap piece is tight, then use that saw setting to cut the first end of the piece that's going up. You can repeat this step for the other corners. ...also Top Gun 300 is a great painters' caulk.
Not only did you give clear advice on how to accomplish a project like this, but you also gave great tips for construction in general. Thank you!
I love how he's rockin that random shinner. hahahahaha what a champ!
How much was everything?
Omg I need you for my basement! I just bought my first home and my basement is a a concrete dungeon. I wish I could do all of this stuff myself!!!! Beautiful work!
Did u renovate yet? I just bought n hv a unfinished concrete basement
He said find a happy place again while he was nailing the molding in the wall. He really is the Bob Ross Construction.
I absolutely love watching you guys. I'm not at at a point to do any remodels but I absolutely love watching the craftsmanship you guys at ODB bring. Especially with the care to show as much as you can. I look forward to all of the content you guys will release in the future! Truly worth mentioning.
Than ks for that, Cheers to you!
I can't believe I just watched this whole thing. I've never built anything (I'm not a DIYer) and don't even own a drill, but it was really interesting to see how this is all done by someone who really thinks it through. You don't have a clone in the D.C. area do you? It would be great to have someone whose work I could really trust to be done properly. Great video; thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching Mr. Mills It is our pleasure. Unfortunately I do not have a clone yet. Hopefully some day in the future we will be able to network with awesome trades all over the planet.
We he a Clown in the DC area! Looks kinda like a corn stalk!
Watching him I've done a few things myself. I was never a DIYer but with youtube you learn. As a teacher I learned that students usually say they are not "math people" and thus invite failure and apathy. Just start doing little things, it'll grow on you. Right now I can't stop watching these videos and doing little projects at home.
I found your channel last night and I've absolutely fallen in love with it. Thank you for your attend to detail when explaining things.
Thanks for commenting. Glad you enjoy our little show. Cheers!
This was perfect to watch the entire project from A to Z!! You have a gift at mentioning a tip or trick or comment at the exact time I was wondering about. Thank you!!
Nothing short of FABULOUS, QUALITY and just plain old perfect.... Outstanding!
Cheers, and thanks!
I come for the know-how, but I STAY for the Timmy's cups. One of my favorite videos so far!! Great work - thank you for your time and dedication to creating quality videos!
Jeff your videos are a godsend. Built a wonderful deck with max and your help and now on to our basement. Hope you've got a new impact drill by now! you deserve it man!
I buy a new one every 2 years. They still work great so I keep em for new guys.
Thank you for your informational videos! You are truly a blessing to us. We're doing a lot of home improvements and your videos are our main go-to source for info. God bless!
This dude is probably the best DIY guy out there. Love his attitude and the way he goes about doing the job
Another awesome video. I'm new to the construction world and I've learned so much from your videos that I've surpassed many veterans on the team. Thnks again.
Respect for putting all of this work and effort into this video. This is what I call hard work and dedication, the video editing is phenomenal and you did a good job of explaining everything. I was gonna be here for only 10 min but ended up staying for the entire 3 hours and it was worth it. HGTV needs to sign you a contract with your own tv show because this is that type of material. Gonna leave a like and might as well subscribe. Cheers! 🥂
Thanks a ton for your comment VanillaSnow! Looking forward to hearing from you again soon. Cheers!
no no no no, no HGTV fro my boy, they'll ruin him!
@@manuelalejandro8972 I like HGTV but they do ruin a lot of great professionals so it seems... Have a great day...
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY What I hate is when the TV shows take you past a tricky part by using using the 'fade to black' screen..."Now you want to do a plunge cut" ...they fade to black, resume screen, and voila, the plug cut was done and you never got to see it. Like Vanilla Snow said "Respect" to you for NOT doing that! Thanks, subscribing.
I bought the same tile cutter that you are using and found the extra wheel as you stated from one of your videos. It worked perfectly and I retiled my bathroom with it - also following your videos. Thank you :)
Thanks so much for this video.
Incredible workmanship, articulate and paced to suit all.
Keen to flick through the rest of your channel 🙌🏼
Incredible video thank you for uploading, I learn so much that you never know when you will need it. thank you again.
So it’s been 2 days almost done- mhhh- I’m really watching this like I’m starting tomorrow
This is the best video I ever seen about the basement Renovation. From the beginning to the end I fount the priceless information. Thank you so much for the great job you have done. I mean not just a basement, but this video as well. My best wishes to you guys.
Honestly, thank you so much for this video! It's a must watch for any one new to home renos.
Who else is here in 2023 and can't wait to get the DIY basement development started?
I am!
@@nelsod76 Goodluck man. Mine's now done and rented out since November 1 😎
Great tip about using the nailer. I watched one of my fathers workers shoot a nail right through his hand while rebuilding his office as a kid. Valuable lesson right there.
I can watch you all day. So therapeutic 👍 More inspiration for the bathroom renovation
The absolute best videos on youtube ! Thank you !
Wow Pat, I am blushing over here. Thanks.
Could seriously watch your videos all day... good job mate
Thanks Nick, feel free and comment on all of them..Cheers.
The knowledge this man has.....
Awesome video!
great video...lots of good advice. I needed to see it. I certainly learned a lot..thanks for the video
"When you pre-drill the holes in the OSB subfloor use Tap Con screws. Prior to driving the screws into the concrete dip each screw into a polyurethane sealant before inserting the fastener into the bottom plates of the wall. Since the Tap Con screws have two different threads (a cutting and tracer thread) the sealant will be deposited on the membrane as it goes through. This helps maintain the vapor barrier that has been penetrated by the fastener." - DMX FAQ
Good tip....

I like the part where the music made it feel like I was watching lethal weapon
You have a nice walk out basement to start with. Lots of natural light and space and it's easier to design and finish and looks 100% better than traditional basements.
Awesome job, when I saw more than 3 hours video I thought I never gonna see that, but my curiosity was bigger.
Nobody is perfect, just a few things:
I like work with copper better.
Never use hammer drill in a hammer drill mode to open those holes in the tile. In that little case you bought for $9 bucks, it comes smaller ones, take that smaller and then use the bigger one.
Like I said nobody is perfect, is an amazing job.
Love the floor, the bar table, the bathroom almost everything lol. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers from Chicago 👍🏼
My dear Friend, it seems you forgot to wear your eye protection. But in spite of this; keep up the good work. You've been a blessing. Thank You
you’re about to become my new best friend as well as my new money saver!
Cheers to that. happy to help!
quick question...i have a shower and the the shower head is on one wall but the shower knob is on the wall beside it...like an ‘L’ shape...how could i know which wall to tear down to find the water lines so i can install a shower tower? im eventually gonna tear down the shower walls but i was just curious
I can’t do a lot of these things you do but have taken an entire year to replace a flagstone wall behind my fireplace. It’s beautiful!!! Took 3 fireplace designs to get what I loved. It sure beats a home improvement book for sure!!!! Thanks. You have helped me a lot!
Glad to help. Cheers!
Watching this, you can see how having powerful and proper tools makes a big difference. I struggle just screwing in a screw straight without it falling off or popping over to the crack behind the workbench. Sounds familiar? This guy makes it look so easy. Memorizing just for that reason.
Please move to the US so I can hire you. EXCELLENT job!!!!
1:29:59 he finally wears his ppe & then in the next clip has a nice shiner 😂
Subscribed and watching.....started off with the drywall/painting and now watching the basement with hopes of doing my own. Thank you!
Jeff is my favourite UA-camd by far. Love the quality of these videos.
Cheers David, we appreciate that!
The first rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club. (The Eye injury ) :)
😂😂
Exactly!!!! That random black eye in the middle of the video is absolutely some fight club s***.
Lmfao thats my first question. What happened? Either safety equipment failer or he zigged when he shouldve zagged. Lol
😆 saw the shiner, didnt ask any questions
Lmfao...I scrolled down to see if anyone addressed it...Thank you for at least adding a resolution
The first video I see with you in safety goggles... Literally the next scene you have a shiner?
it's a tough racket (drink)
Easily the best material on UA-cam for all DIY things. I’ve probably watched this 3 times now (no forwarding) and it’s given me confidence to start working on my unfinished basement. I agree with another UA-camr commenting that HGTV should sign you up for a show. You are phenomenal sir with your explanations and insights!!
Thank you very kindly, we will see!
Normally I don't subscribe, but I like a lot of your video's even on jobs that I've already "tried" to tackle. You have helped me many times not make simple mistakes that would have doubled or tripled my time. Thank you! Also, you have inspired me to do projects that normally I would not have tried to tackle. Thanks again! Jared
HOW DO YOU KNOW SO MUCH! I am I'm the process of renovating my basement during this COVID pandemic, and the framing for my basement is done, ( not perfectly) currently in the process of insulation, vapour barrier and drywall. It's an older house so nothing in the basement was level to begin with. Its all so overwhelming and frustrating, but I am trying to get through it. The dry wall nothing is really flush and I have uneven gaps, which I'm sure will be a pain in the you know what, when I have to mud and sand. Oh also installed a bathroom shower base which was hell, tried to self level the section for the basement ofcourse didn't make level for the base so I'm shimming it and still isn't perfect, but I've accepted it. I don't know why I am commenting all this information just needed to vent to someone who knows what they're doing. On a good note it is all one hell of a learning experience, took me 3-4 hours to install 1 of 4 basement windows, but I am happy about it, also made some stairs for the first time, took 6 hours, but after finishing that was all satisfying. So yah, that's where I am right now. Thanks for reading this comment hope you and your family are staying safe, cannot wait to know as much information as you do. Will save me soo much time!!
How did it end up turning out?
@@johnd9357 At the end of the day, the renovation is completed. We have a tenant move in, and everything is going good. Knock on wood. There is alot of things, I have learned during this experience. Every sense this project, I have been eager to learn more and do whatever I can to make something even the simplest things like making coat hangers out of a piece of wood and some hooks, is just so satisfying. It was alot of frustration working on the basement, but definitely worth it. Having a lower back injury makes things hard to do, but I make it work and go at my own pace. There is no rush, just have to take your time and sometimes step back and look at things differently. At the end of the day, someone wanted to rent out the place, and I can collect a nice beneficial income twords the mortgage. Trust me when I say this, if I can do it , ANYONE CAN.
@@mysticespresso6956 I very much appreciate that! A Long battle, that has never had felt so good to finish. Thank you!
A lot of your videos are extremely long; and I love them for that reason. You guys put in a lot of information out and walk us through your process. In some videos, were you have your sons, I just adore them.
I am not into building, construction, remodeling, or anything. I love these videos-- plus, you are an attractive guy.
I just want to say you are amazing. I have been looking for someone that really explains the basics for a long time now and you have done it. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou! -Cynthia 😊
Great Video Sir!!! I can't believe i just sit and watch this full video from 0:00 - 3:18:42 during my work hours. Looking forward for more great videos like these
Careful with eye exposure to the laser. A few times you had direct exposure.
Low-power red laser, not looking directly at it, and only brief exposure. No issue there.
Right after you mentioned about having your PPE lol. 😂
Seriously this man is special. He does things as he is made to do those- just perfect. I can see his passion. Great Job.
Cheers and have a great Christmas!
This is great! I have finally got my upstairs renovated and looking great so now I can work on the basement, but I know it's not going to be as simple of a job.

Super, except the bloody tattoos of your helper, I just want to puke.
25:20 You also want to use grit cloth on the valve. If there's dirt or grease or really anything the solider won't take. An ounce of preparation goes along way. Especially when it's a 6 inch copper line with 130psi behind it. That was a fun day.
THAT DAMN EYE AGAIN! 🐼 1:33:54 LMFAO
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hey Jeff. You’ve been on my TV in the basement for about 2 weeks now. Watching every single video while I turn my basement into a beautiful living space. It’s was already converted into a living space prior to me buying the house. The basement was done about 15 years ago and I basically ripped it all out. You on my TV and me being a DIY’er. Getting some great results! Learning about vapor barriers and moisture barriers, this and that, I’m in New York. Neighbor south of you, and I love me some Canada! One thing, we need to get you some Milwaukee tools! Thanks for all these videos. I went from a mechanic to a UA-cam Certified Carpenter in a week! Haha. Great videos, Keep it up!
You are absolutely professional at everything you do
1:05:30 - the exact same song my doctor's office uses for their hold line.
LOL, awesome!
what happend to your eye? man. a head injury, skull base fracture, or a direct blow from accident. hopefully not from your wife. good luck. good totorial, thank you.
I think broken nose 👃
Jeff,
You are without a doubt the best, honest, caring content providers on the net. I have never been on the safety police but seeing as how I’m in this particular field, I would like to protect you so you can keep making videos. The laser level near your face should be treated as a nail gun with the safety depressed. A direct hit for roughly 2 seconds can do permanent damage at the wavelengths used in construction and obviously the response is, well who would do that, BUT scanning your head back and fourth with repeated microsecond exposures is just playing with fire, ESPECIALLY when sight is important to the joy and knowledge you bring to people. Please just consider it and don’t get upset about the comment! Thanks for your help making the industry better!
Absulty gorgeous. Oh yes, in love it.
i literally had this going while i was ASLEEP
and i managed to get through over 3 hours of it wtffffff
I guess the your big assistant had enough of you at 1:30:00. I've seen that at a job site before.
Your Hunting Buddy hahaha
I really liked the Lethal Weapon-like music that went with assembling the wooden wall frame
I can’t believe how much detail u put into this video.
I’m going to finish watching it and try to force my husband to watch it and get as motivated/excited as I am 😂
1:24:03 "There you go. Industry standard for flooring is 80%. This is about 97. I oughta be just fine." Haha. I found that very amusing.
Dude!!!! I Freakn love this channel!!!
Dude!!!! I freakn Love Viewers who call me DUDE!!!! Cheers!
I am trying to learn the “correct” way to take care of flipping. So your channel is just plain BAD ASS! Sorry for that but it truly is! I’m still very green about all home Reno and it is just really cool to have you and your sons help us “rookies” out! I told all my co-workers about you all too! So hope your channel goes off!
Keep in touch my man!
This just feels like one big commercial for a laser level. I love it.
Thank you for helping me finish my basement. The kids that are stuck in my basement are happy now.
1:29:59 looks like someone got beat by their wife for taking to long to finish the basement🤣🤣🤣
David Vetter-Steinberg lmao these comments about bro eye are 2 funny I hope he enjoy reading these comments as much as I did the fact it showed up after talking about eye protection the scene before makes it even more iconic 💀
Hi Jeff I love the videos! What type of education or training did you get to do what you do? Thanks again
working in the trades since I was just 13. Started flipping century homes with the family.
Home RenoVision DIY what would you recommend to a 17 year old looking to get into the trades? Do I really need a degree? Or just an apprenticeship?
I would recommend becoming an electrician or a plumber. Those are good jobs that will never be challenged by deflated labour pressures. Most skilled trades feel the pressure on the hourly rate during times of high levels of immigration. Ticketed trades do not.
Noah Sorensen
Definitely electrician or plumber. Start helping out now. Go to trade school for 2 years. Work for someone that’s small. Save up for your own van/truck/tools/LLC/marketing. Then start your own company. When you’re 30-35 you’ll have a couple guys doing the work and you running the business.
Great entertainment, it is not just DIY specific, the video is simply entertaining with a wider audience, fascinating.
I started watching your videos because my wife of 18 years left me and now I have our old house all to myself. I’m not handy, but I your videos are so well thought out, I feel I can build a new house. This basement is my next project. Thanks!
I am renovating my basement. Do you recommend to frame the walls first then do the subfloor? This video is great but it looks the basement had frame on the walls already
if you do not have walls yet it is even better to install them on the subfloor. Cheers!
So first subfloor then framing the walls
I was looking for a video on how to drill a hole in my desk so i can run cables through and I ended up watching this
If you keep dipping the tile bit in water, it will last for the full install. Keep a cup of water near you. As soon as you see the bit heating up, dip the bit. Great job on the reno!
Nice, mellow personality. I'm subscribing just to get to sleep learning a little along the way.

Amazing video! Just watched all of it in one sitting. I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work.
I learned a LOT today thanks. Cant wait to get started on my basement renovation.
Great job sir. Im from Toronto and I have been following your channel for about 3 months now. Really motivational. If you could spare some time and put up a show regarding the total cost to build a basement from A-Z including materials and labor ,that would be great.
Your work inspires a lot of youngsters. Keep up the good deeds.
Oh I forgot to mention, your son , Mat is also doing awesome.
Big thumbs up for you guys.👍👍👍.
Best wishes.
How much would you say is the cost to finish a basement like that?
Marlon Mullon id like to know too.
If you hire someone I’d say about 20-30k
10:36 some serious 90s porn music kicks in xD
A 5.10 1/2 man who is a great communicator and educator on construction work. Kudos to your camera and vid editting person. Fine job all around.
Thanks Max is the best in the business. Cheers!
This is an EXCELLENT VIDEO....I am starting a Basement Finishing project soon, and this has been so informative!
"Way better than Bob Vila..didn't he do "This old crap.." ...
"Bob who"?
"Exactly"
Should of kept wearing that eye protection
I do when it is necessary. If I wore it all day I would most likely cause all kinds of injuries due to reduced visibility.
I think he is referring to the black eye you had.
LoL this is a good one! he is joking ur black eyes. i kinda bothered by the black eyes, But respect the awesome job. thanks man!
Jacob Easton or maybe when he was hammering the retractable blade into the duct to cut a hole in it.

Thank you for this awesome video we just purchased your first home and it’s a fixer upper. The first thing I want to do is finish my basement and work my way up in the house
We're building a house right now and I'm WAY too cheap to have them finish the basement. Plus, I want to take my time and use the materials I want to use. This video is going to help me think of things I'm sure I would have not thought of.
