  • In the church of The Holy Cross, Warsaw, Poland where Chopin's heart rests, we had the special opportunity to film Jonathan's arrangement (originally for solo piano) of Chopin's Prelude in E Minor Op. 28 No. 4 on the Pipe Organ built by Cäcilia Organ Builders, Salzburg. The piece is especially poignant as it was requested, by Chopin, to be played on the organ at his funeral. It was performed at his funeral service on 30th August 1849 by the organist Lefébure-Wély at the Church of the Madeleine, Paris, France.
Chopin was buried in Paris but he requested that his heart be taken to Poland and buried in a local church. Chopin was also an organist who played the organs in the area around this church in Warsaw.
We hope you enjoy it. Jonathan & Tom
The Score of this arrangement is available in "The Sometime Organist" digital PDF book here: www.scottbrothersduo.com/the-...

How poignant .A sensitive and well transcribed performance of Chopin's chosen Funeral service Prelude performed next to his heart. Thank you both.

This is probably the most recognizable organ in Poland. You can hear it every Sunday 9 a.m. in Polish Radio (PR1 broadcasts Holy Mass from this church). Stunning rendition (as well as Chopin's Polonaise and Nocturne at All Saints Church).
Many many thanks to you Jonathan and Tom.

A deeply reflective performance enhanced by the first image of the chandelier radiating in a heart shape. ❤ Surely Chopin would be touched by this musical and visual tribute. Thank you for sharing. 💐💐🎹🎶

Beautiful organ and church there in Warsaw and once again very well played by you! I would like to ask you if you could play the Prelude in C major by J.C. Kellner on the organ soon, if you have time?

While in Marseilles, Chopin played the organ during a requiem mass for the tenor *Adolphe Nourrit* on April 24, 1839: he played a transcription of Franz Schubert's Lied *Die Sterne.* George Sand described Chopin's playing in a letter dated the 28th of April, 1839:
Chopin sacrificed himself by playing the organ at the Elevation - and what an organ! Anyhow our boy made the best of it by using the less discordant stops, and he played Schubert's Die Sterne, not with a passionate and glowing tone that Nourrit used, but with a plaintive sound as soft as an echo from another world. Two or three at most among those present felt its meaning and had tears in their eyes.
[Adolphe Nourrit was the first to sing a high C full chest voice, not falsetto. When he called on Rossini, Nourrit was told he was most welcome, but that he would need to leave his C at the door and take it with him again when he left!]

Quite something to ask that one of your own compositions be played at your own funeral! Not hubris, I think, though.
(Sadly, this piece does little for me [nothing wrong with it, and of course JS's playing is wonderful]; I like the back story, though.)
