And about Glacia being born 1800 years after Mikaela despite being older, in Greek mythology, Hesiod begins with Chaos, Gaia, Tartarus, and Eros. Despite Eros being at the beginning, he is the son of Aphrodite, which makes Gaia either his grandmother or his great great grandmother; his mother didn't exist yet, depending on which source you want to believe. This means that, IF YOU CAN BELIEVE THE STORY OF MIKAELA AND GLACIA IS A MYTH, IT MAKES SENSE IN SOME SORT OF WISHY WASHY HOCUS POCUS MYSTICAL SORT OF WAY but I'm betting the writers of League of Angels: Pact never even thought that far. Or they even had writers at all.

Exactly correct at the battle and war point. If you had a great uncle that died during WW2 and died at the battle of Stalingrad, both these things can be true.
The cameo had me rolling, good stuff. For real though... just watching you break down the ui nearly gave me a headache, I don't even want to think about how much of a pain it was sorting out and actually explaining it all to us.
The epic music after 2:18 is taken from 'Two Steps From Hell' and their album 'Battlecry'. It is called 'Cannon in D Minor'. They compose a lot of these soundtracks for various uses, mostly trailers; The Avengers, Harry Potter, Inception, Pirates of the Caribbean, and so on. Quite prolific and recognisable. For anyone wondering why this style is so familiar, listen to 'Heart of Courage'. You'll know immediately.
I've had Cannon in D Minor in my favourite songs playlists across multiple music streaming apps for almost 10 years. I got so excited hearing it in the wild!
Feature Creep isn't the right term for this sort of nightmare. It's more like their whales spent money to max out a system, so they have to create a new system for whales to dump more money into. The currencies have to be new so that the whales can't use their existing resources to max out the new one.
The song in the trailer at 2:22 is Cannon in D Minor (no that's not a misspelling) by Two Steps from Hell, an outfit that mainly produces stock music for trailers and the like. The style is often called "epic music" as a category, so the "far far too epic" comment is really spot on. I suspect they blew a big chunk of their music budget on licensing just that one track. edit: Assuming, of course, that they did actually license it.
As I listen to TSFH daily, I recognized it immediately. Came to the comment section before replying to see if someone had already done it so I didn't have to.
I love how Hbomberguy has become a kind of angel of wrath against plagiarism. He just...appears now, or is at least referenced when anything relating to plagiarism is touched upon
yeah this isnt the only cameo he's done in other people's youtube vids and i love how they date a video. you know for certain this came out after his video because of its appearance. its youtube history!
his videos are such insanity. it makes whatever his next video might be absolutely terrifying. you think you're settling in for a 4 hour video essay about Arx Fatalis, and the next thing you know you have an irrepressible hatred for a man you've never met, never cared about, and is about to become the face of internet controversy after being completely unknown for 22 years.
Finally Josh is catering to the 2nd monitor audience... By requiring you to have an additional monitor to keep track of all the things he said in this video.
I really appreciate the direction Josh is taking in these reviews, especially the 'live presenter' moments, it adds something new and unique to the usual UA-cam formula and I'm here for it
I am more convinced than ever that I played LoA or LoA II when it was on Facebook. My memory of it was that people primarily used it as a chat room to hang out while they were bored.
I had to go back and look at the gem count in the sheer hope that maybe either it didn't actually cost gems to click those buttons or that the gems were automatically deducted but nope. "Too impatient to wait a couple of seconds? Spend some premium currency and you can skip the timer!" smh
I appreciate the microphone in the mug. I’ve seen it in other videos but just now realizing what’s going on there, I just thought it was a weird microphone. Very nice and thoughtful humor to those who watch all your mug holding videos. I’ve learned that if you want to really look like you know what you’re talking about….hold a mug while you say it. And wear a vest.
Just a friendly reminder while looking through all of this - art theft should absolutely be criminal. It's great people tracked this down, and I really hope that the company that made this...app? Interactive video? What even is this kind of game?...receive the consequences they deserve for it.
This game really respects it's player's time. Why do so many games waste their players time with things like gameplay and story when you can just let the game play itself? This gives gamers so much more time to accomplish more and play multiple games at once.
The music from the opening steam page is actually 'Cannon in D Minor', by Two Steps from Hell. A company whom make their own music for awesome epicness.
The “pay to skip the timer” simultaneously shocked me but was also completely predictable. I assumed it was pay to continue, until you said “guess what happens if it counts down” and I immediately knew. It’s just too perfect, just like those games that make you pay to open chests faster (Elder Scrolls Blades)
To be fair, this is one of the only games I've seen that's a "pay to skip the timer" that doesn't reset your progress if you don't. Most other games reset your progress or make you fail the event because it's a "pay to try again/continue".
I've seen so many Hbomberguy cameos in videos recently and I'm all for it Also congrats on the images you made for this game Tommy Talarico I'm sure his mother is very proud
I have never touched or had any interest in this, or any other, game in the Worse MMO series, yet I've watched every single one of them, often multiple times and love it!
I played like 3 of the games in the series, and was okay with it. Played none of them for any length of time, but I had my fair share of f2p mmos to have a general gist about what to expect and how to judge them, depending on how many thongs they throw at me within the first hour. The more free stuff and redundant systems, the worse.
@@cypherdk85yeah the older being AAA mmos are fine tho they did get ruined when the publishers tried to make it "hip" again to get some money. All the anime ones are terrible.
I played Vindictus regularly between closed beta and the release of season 2. I stopped midway through the S2 story. When Josh reviewed it, it was only a shell of what it once was. "QoL" had removed the need to engage with the overworld, more cash shop and reward & character power creep
I discovered (ugh) League of Angels through a Facebook banner ad that advertised the game using a picture of Foxfire Ahri (the League of Legends character, and literally just the picture that you saw IN League of Legends of that skin) with some very minor edits like wings. The ad I saw for this one, Pact, was just an edited version of Morgana (another League of Legends character) that made her look golden instead of purple. It's not even plagiarism, I'm pretty sure this "game" is just an amalgamation of art ripped off from various sources by some devs in a basement somewhere in China, modified slightly occasionally, with random "game" systems thrown in there to distract you from the fact that you're paying for literally nothing. Like the gall to rip off one of the most popular online games out there is just insane, shows you how little they care about anything.
It surely is made for the mobile market. The fact that every single UI element is in a vertical snipped in the middle of the screen shows that they just expanded the "play" area, but not the interactions or expositions.
@@HappyBeezerStudios The quality difference in mobile games is staggering. Some are actually good, even the gacha ones, but most of them are League of Angels.
@@HappyBeezerStudios From what I know about Pact, although it was published by a company named "Game Hollywood Games", the game wasn't actually developed by the main company behind League of Angels itself... In fact, League of Angels Pact was the only game of LoA that the company published from what I saw on the website of theirs... The only redeemable game I noticed on there was Game of Thrones, well... the P2W nonsense on for the GTArcade Launcher... Edit: GTArcade is based in Hong King, while "Game Hollywood Games" despite its name, is based in Spain... :/ Anyway, the GoTs game that was on the website was the 'Winter is Coming' version Edit 2: Also, if you look at GTArcade's website and look at the list of games they have, you'll painfully notice how it does not list Pact as a result, which means it wasn't one they officially made themselves, since they didn't offer ways to download it from their website, or the dedicated launcher for the computer

Josh, the music in the trailer is Two Steps From Hell, "Cannon in D Minor" the exact clip appears at 2:15 in the song. TSFH is famous for their epic music appearing in trailers/soundtracks for the big names like many Disney films, Marvel, Interstellar, and many others, they even got played at some big sports event at some point. Looking at the other accounts of copyright infringement I'd say it's a cherry on top for the upcoming lawsuit. WELP. This was a trip down memory lane. I remember one day, in my youth, just seeing an advertisement for this when it was in it's early days. I was one of the early players, early enough to be a non-paying player that was successfully in the top 100 in it's arbitrary ranking systems, but despite my achievements, I couldn't care for more than two days. Seeing it again...I just remember the comic I was reading more than the game. Ozzy and Millie, by the way.
also fun fact. I used to translate for these things. the reason letters get cut off is because the programming there is a character limit. usually its enough for Chinese languages but when it becomes english you have to come up with creative words for it so it doesn't blow the word count. that's where words like top up and stuff like that comes from.

Watching you describe the UI, I felt like I was watching some kind of horrific car crash in slow motion. That's what this game's design comes across to me as. If halfway in the video you had stopped and went "Kidding. I made this up, it's satire of how bad video games can be" I would have not been surprised. It's made entirely out of red flags of game design.
I think this is my new favorite Worst MMO Ever? episode now. For some reason, I absolutely LOVE whenever you breakdown all of these different currencies and systems!
Started watching whole playlist recently, quite fun content. I would like to mention MMO i played decade or so ago "Warspear". It used to be amazing game for its time, saw it going on steam recently and figured why not check it out once again. And oh boy from relatively f2p it went all in on p2w over the years quite sad. But still the world was amazing, combat well, i think it was ok? 5 spells at the beginning can expand later, target and rotate spells, there are roles heal/dps/tank for dungeons and raids. Itemization u had standard head to toe equipment. there were 2 factions at the beginning opposing each other now there are 4 i think each faction with unique classes that makes total of 16 i may be wrong haven't checked that too thoroughly. Story well i didn't know much English back then so yeah I'm lacking there too. With all that i think it may qualify for this series, thanks for amazing content sir.
thank you for the very clean audio clip of you saying "Dailies" for me to add to my soundboard!! for a game about angels it sure does seem like pure EVIL!! laughed out loud at the hbomberguy cameo, very good as always!

This pains me, all these asian grinder games have such pretty effects and stylistic graphics but all this talent is wasted on a garbage cashgrab and it happens so freaking often.
It’s true that the art is pretty good, but it’s a lot lazier than you might think. It’s rather easy to rip and reuse the same designs, and oftentimes they aren’t the ones who made them in the first place…
i know i tried so hard to figure out how the art for the areas was made because the game seems so effortless, it couldn't have been AI because LoA was released in 2013, but it also has a hitbox map so there was at least some effort put into the map. i just don't understand how all that ended up being overshadowed by the rest of the game that sells itself as if it's some popup ad scam
20:00 im gonna go out on a limb and suggest that all Lore was created via AI considering that would EASILY explain the drastic inconsistencies and relatively drab writing
Yo Josh, will you ever do one of these on City of Heroes now that the Homecoming server is licensed by NCSoft? Love the vids man, you've provided me days worth of entertainment, I still think about how amazing your Otherland series was.
not sure if anyone else noticed, but the audio jingle for popups in this game is from City of Heroes, it's the Enhancement Found notification. 25:41 for an example, but it's constant throughout.

There's a mobile game (possibly of Chinese origin) on the Play store called Goddess Era, and the UI already looks incredibly suspiciously like League of Angels, and the gameplay loop is play the game until it gets grindy, then AFK and do 'dailies' every day to progress one or two levels. The greatest thing I witnessed with this game is that one night I installed three separate games, each with the recognisable gameplay of Goddess Era, and I had erroneously assumed that two of these games had plagiarized a singular game. Nope, they were all Goddess Era, and playing each game autogenerated each a different email to play the game, and now I had three apps of the same game, just on different accounts. The only thing to draw players to the game is just that the Goddesses are all scantily clothed, and one, "Prometheus" is just straight up naked with tiny chains being the only thing covering her. The game is just softcore porn. I'd love to just get your reaction to the game, not as an MMO, but because you did a review of Isekai Demon Waifu and I'd love to see you suffer through the ungodly creation that is Goddess Era.
What I really don’t understand is just HOW these games even make any kind of money. Like, yes I get that there’s probably lots and lots of whales playing but they could just as much spend that money on a slightly more good and playable game. It feels like plain stupidity to spend money on something like this, at least to me… @-@ Like always a great vid! it was really fun to finally catch the premiere.
To _waaayyyy_ oversimplify the complicated psychology (and exploitation) of it: never underestimate how much a game can make by catering to "whales." It's the 80/20 rule, on full display.
To some people, simply being The Best is what they want, even if it's The Best at something nobody else cares about and would judge them harshly if they knew the details. Small pond, big fish. That kind of thing. It's not the only reason, not remotely, but it is one motivation for some people and it's one that sticks out to me.
You said the word "shop" so many times it stopped sounding like a word lmao There are so many systems I felt like my brain was melting. You deserve a frickin medal for enduring this man, for real. And the plagiarism is downright obscene. I hope those artists sue the crap out of them
I'm pretty sure that each League of Angels game has all the systems of the previous League of Angels game plus whatever they could think of. Also the way you mangled Mikaela is right up there with Benedict Cumberbatch's penguin.
This setup for monetization and mechanics looks to be based on that commonly in browser-based H-games. The fifty currencies and absurd prices, especially. It just happens to have a nicer mmorpg visage over it. But this is definitely on par with the mechanics and price structure of the H-games you play in browser using a burner email

Great Video, as always Josh. Would love to see you review an old classic instanced MMO called Dragon Nest. The internet's quite fond of it, and it has, in my opinion, the best, most intricate combat system to be ever introduced. As a result, the PVP is also some of the best there is, plaqued only by constant power imbalances (but what game isn't?). Would love to see your thoughts with this game.
I have a confession to make. Josh is my white noise (more like brown, I suppose, but you get the drift). When I've had a rough day and I really need to get to sleep, I bring my laptop to bed, I put it on the far side and dim the screen as far as it will go, I put the volume to where it's only just possible to make out the words and put on a "Worst MMO Ever?" For the first five minutes, I pay attention, then my eyes droop and I just listen with my eyes closed, then the words become background noise and in 10-15 minutes I'm solidly asleep. I figure it's a win-win. I have zero interest in MMORPGs anymore so I miss out on nothing, but I get sleep, and Josh gets a full video runtime view. Thanks, Mr. Vest Man.

I immediately knew it was music from Two Steps from Hell but couldn't remember the song, thank you for the title 👍
I just spent 15 minutes searching through my music library to find that, thank you for beating me to it.
No problems. I listened to Battlecry enough times to remember the songs. :)
I've had Cannon in D Minor in my favourite songs playlists across multiple music streaming apps for almost 10 years. I got so excited hearing it in the wild!
came here to say this haha
Feature Creep isn't the right term for this sort of nightmare. It's more like their whales spent money to max out a system, so they have to create a new system for whales to dump more money into. The currencies have to be new so that the whales can't use their existing resources to max out the new one.
Indeed. Feature Creep implies that it gradually became like this. This is the intention.
wow I actually have no words for this just wow its so sad
The idea that there are actually whales for this game horrifies me.
"Sexy angel themed fireworks" sound like a really apt description.
They probably didn’t considering the amount of plagiarism this game has done already
I knew I recognized it!
As I listen to TSFH daily, I recognized it immediately. Came to the comment section before replying to see if someone had already done it so I didn't have to.
Listen to em a lot. Came to the comments to remember which song it was haha.
I recognized it immediately lol, they produce some good fucking audiofood in that regard.
That video is seriously legendary, I haven't watched movies in months but I watched that masterpiece at least twice (more if sleeping to it counts...)

I am more convinced than ever that I played LoA or LoA II when it was on Facebook. My memory of it was that people primarily used it as a chat room to hang out while they were bored.

Its the modern look of "Sophistication" (When you cannot be bothered with that Top hat nonsense).
This gives gamers so much more time to accomplish more and play multiple games at once.
it really gives me the feeling of not playing video games, and i like that
It doesn't even do a good job at being automatic because of all of the menus you have to click through to actually be strong enough to proceed.
Wow imagine if you played like 10 of these 😂
Or just make a game you dont have to afk in to have fun
The music from the opening steam page is actually 'Cannon in D Minor', by Two Steps from Hell. A company whom make their own music for awesome epicness.
THANK YOU, i felt like i was losing my mind trying to remember who made it
I recognized Two steps from Hell instantly. Would not have been able to tell which one, though.
Thank you, more people deserve to know this! Such epic music.
So I was right in assuming it was from Steps...
Shame their amazing stuff get used by these....I dont want to call them Devs..
I've seen so many Hbomberguy cameos in videos recently and I'm all for it

I have never touched or had any interest in this, or any other, game in the Worse MMO series, yet I've watched every single one of them, often multiple times and love it!
I played like 3 of the games in the series, and was okay with it. Played none of them for any length of time, but I had my fair share of f2p mmos to have a general gist about what to expect and how to judge them, depending on how many thongs they throw at me within the first hour.
The more free stuff and redundant systems, the worse.
Not all of them are bad, I've played quite a few and enjoyed myself.
Like Age of Conan, Lord of The Rings Online, The Old Republic and a few more.
@@cypherdk85yeah the older being AAA mmos are fine tho they did get ruined when the publishers tried to make it "hip" again to get some money. All the anime ones are terrible.
@@cypherdk85Agreed Guild wars 1 also really comes to mind
Yeah i've absolutely played a version of this at one point or another.
:/ Anyway, the GoTs game that was on the website was the 'Winter is Coming' version
Edit 2: Also, if you look at GTArcade's website and look at the list of games they have, you'll painfully notice how it does not list Pact as a result, which means it wasn't one they officially made themselves, since they didn't offer ways to download it from their website, or the dedicated launcher for the computer

I love the reverse image search part of this. All detective....then just throwing it out there in the video
Pretty bold of them to so blatantly use copyrighted materials that they do not own the rights to (I also doubt that they licensed them). Even if it's a temporary upcoming feature advertisement, it's still illegal as hell, and they're frankly lucky none of the copyright owners know about it.
Also welcome back! It's always a good time when a Josh Strife Hayes video drops.
The company who churns these games out is Chinese, so going after them is pretty much impossible because China's copyright laws are all sorts of jank.

Also check them out, their music is simply fantastic, I recommend listening to Black Blade, Molto Piratissiomo, Star Sky, El Dorado, Impossible- and I could go on like that for a while but that should be a good start :D
A TSFH rec isn’t complete without “To Glory” and “Winterspell”, imo.

I find it funny that you remember the comic you were reading when you first saw League of Angels. 😂
Yo, Ozzy and Millie is great! I should reread it again sometime
It's been 4 years... bloody hell... GGs on the success dude!
also fun fact. I used to translate for these things. the reason letters get cut off is because the programming there is a character limit. usually its enough for Chinese languages but when it becomes english you have to come up with creative words for it so it doesn't blow the word count. that's where words like top up and stuff like that comes from.
This game had countless discord bots infiltrate a myriad of discord servers, including one for a phantasy star online blue burst private server. Completely insane

The best part of these videos is always the rapid-fire shade throwing you do at the very start.

I love how he puts more thought into these games than their own designers did.
20:00 im gonna go out on a limb and suggest that all Lore was created via AI considering that would EASILY explain the drastic inconsistencies and relatively drab writing

Prometheus was a dude ffs, not to even mention that he had to suffer through having his liver ripped from his body every single day

This setup for monetization and mechanics looks to be based on that commonly in browser-based H-games. The fifty currencies and absurd prices, especially.

Thanks, Mr. Vest Man.
