James Cameron’s Avatar took the world by storm in 2009, securing its spot as one of the highest grossing movies of all time. Isn’t it kind of weird then that it barely seems to have had any impact on pop culture? To find out why that is, let’s step inside the pitch meeting that led to the world of Pandora, the Na’vi, and a whooooole lot of thinly veiled racial stereotypes. What led to the decision to have giant blue kitty kats? Why don’t the multimillion dollar Avatars have ANY tracking capabilities? What’s up with the super generic villain? All these questions and more are answering in this pitch meeting! It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience!

I just spent my whole evening watching pitch meetings instead of studying. "Whoopsie"
Neglecting studying for pitch meetings is tight.
Whoops!
It is indeed good procrastination material
I'm supposed to be writing multiple essays right now but here I am!
SurenK7 I hope your exam was actually very easy- barely an inconvenience!
Although, I imagine the actual Pitch meeting was something like, "I'm James Cameron. I made Titanic. Give me money." And then he got money, because he's James Cameron and he made Titanic.
Super easy barely an inconvenience
The man has made the 2nd and 3rd best grossing films of all time. (And technically they were both 1st at the time of release.) So yeah, the man prints money when he makes a movie.

The movie Avatar showed me. You have to connect to everything living with your "pony tail"? So it's like Bad Grandpa. He was connected to the vending machine by his "pony tail" too.
Guys you don't see the BIG picture 'We are all connected'
I like to think no one connected the dots. Like first they thought, "How do they control the animals? Use their ponytails."
And then on a completely separate meeting, "How do we show intimacy, there's no genital? Just connect their tails"
And they never thought twice about it

@@mr.joshua6818 Just found this channel and watch both avatar pitch meeting and the thing that bug me the most was the fact that makes no sense that the avatars would not have a tracking device implanted into them or in their equipment since they literally need to be connected wireless with the host.

@@willbordy hadn't realized it either lol

Dances with Wolves is the true inspiration. It's a scene-for-scene copy.
So, Costner literally raped the wolves in that movie?
It's pretty damn close...the prairie/west is pandora...natives are the navi...buffalos are the unobtainium...us army is well, the same...both tame wild animals...only difference is really just the love interest in dances isn't a true native...other than that exact same movie
Danced with Wolves is a copy of A Man Called Horse (1957).
@@newloon Except it's a completely different type of movie. It offers a different experience, different characters, etc.
Just because 2 movies have similar premises, that doesn't mean they are the same. Avatar is more concerned with being an action-adventure, fantasy popcorn flick, that most people can enjoy. While Dances with Wolves is a slow-burning western drama about Native American culture. It's much more concern with characters and the grit of reality back then, than it is at being a fun adventure.
Avatar is also much better directed than Dances with Wolves.

The problem I have is James Cameron said he had been sitting on this story for over 15 years waiting for the technology to be able to make it. He also has stated he is a big scifi fan and read lots of science fiction novels. Well I can tell because most of the plot dealing with the trees being connected and possibly sentient and the natives bonding with animals and burying their dead in knolls int the trees, and humans coming to the planet. Then one of them works with the natives with the plants and animals to overrun the outpost. Even the whole jungle planet and using branches as roads and how dangerous it is... This was written 10 years before Camron even dreamed of Avatar. He blatantly ripped of MidFlink by Alan Dean Foster. It was a new York Times best seller and his Pip and Flinx series was VERY popular among sci-fi readers. He never even gave a nod of his hat by saying he was inspired by sci-fi writers back then like... Nope he hogged all the lime light after stealing the idea for most of the story. The only think even partly original to the story was the use of the Avatars themselves. Otherwise it was a pocahontas store based in an Alan Dean Foster world.
