Ian, you're a great interviewer. No matter who you speak with, we get a different view of that one - nicely in depth - through your work. Thank you! I really enjoyed this one, deeply.

Richard helps one to see the universalities of experience and how to open up to them. He gathers various tools and practices, studies schools of theory, and synthesizes it into a best practices. He is not about shoulds or shouldn'ts but about techniques for greater presence. He is able to help one understand some basic truths that help to lead a fuller life. He's awesome.

it was supernatural for me. The energy was overwhelming. I was in prayer crying alone when it happened to me. Never will forget the joyful experience and still is with me after 25 years.

Thank you for sharing this. I began awakening in 1982. No it was not easy going. In fact, it has been more challenging than when I was still plugged in the dream. It is an evolving process. The mind has become silent and I am living in the Now. This is available to everyone

Mind blowing! Great story! Different than most enlightenment stories! Especially hearing about recurrently 'opening and contracting' is good to hear! That resonates with my experience of walking the spiritual path or 'non-path'. Thanks! .

I am finding myself attracted to the teachers like this, that feel a strong appreciation for all levels of awareness, meaning not only clarity and detachment, but also heart and humanity and immersion. That quote about neither the lower nor the greater is more important, really encapsulates it. It's about the perfection of every aspect integrated. The massive mystery of everything! This seems the right direction. Now if only there can be a realization of this! ;-)

I realize that the following is not what Richard actually said, but this is what came to me by listening to this interview:
Receive the mental negatives (thoughts and feeling about your stories) that life offers, and feel the joy and beauty and love that these negatives actually are. In other words, negatives and positives are not actually different from each other. Do this as a daily practice.

a way amidst many to connect to that which is the ground of all being.

its good to resonate with the teaching and above all to bring a bridge between the two perspectives, to over come the repetitive thinking of separation and its crazy logic in a language that bridges that void, is also Mastery.

I start to see a pattern of 'Western ' people, getting short but intense enlightenment experiences . Followed by constructing talks, methods, writing books etc,etc to help others. But how valid can such well mend advice be? If they did not follow their own advice, but where just 'lucky'(?)

I don't get the meditation--you have to have the thought to have the feeling, so it you let go of the thought, the feeling will go away. So it didn't make a lot of sense to me. If you feel stressed about going to work you don't enjoy, but you have a family to support you have to go to work eventually, so you have the stressed thought about work and you feel it in your body. You can't get rid of the thought, because then you wouldn't go to work. Is it okay to trust the universe that if you don't go to work your children will be okay, even if you're turned out of your home and lose everything you have? I guess my story is about trying to not jeopardize my children while finding some personal peace. Where are all the individuals who woke up at the age of 28 and found themselves the sole support of small children? I hear lots of stories of people who were pretty much taken care of financially or else single and able to live on the edge. They can sit around and meditate and write books. Maybe there are some who just threw the kids to the wolves. Are they able to kill the guilt by living in the Now? I want to hear those stories.

I would want to feel every minute and cry. I would want that suffeing hell I would need that suffering. I dissagree and agree with some stuff he says. You can just wake up and know... by looking in to all your past. Its like living a sleep then waking up and just seeing everything that happened in your life. Thats what people mean by waking up. If you have work to be done then your not living in the now. If that makes sense. You don't work you just live and play. Its not work its more comitment.
