    Thank you for the breakdown on shipping charges. Yes, I think I get your points. I will have to measure your points against the next shipping charge I pay.
    Gotcha.

    Great video!!! I see a lot of videos of people buying cast iron for cheap at yard sales and estate sales...but we can't do that right now. It's very helpful to know what to look for online, especially from an online seller. I've been itching to buy some cruddy cast iron and now I have a better idea of what to look for online. Thanks for your videos! Keep them coming! I love the cooking ones too!!!

      Thank you Kyle and I am glad you enjoyed it! Many of us cast iron aficionados can't get our normal fix from the usual sourcing places, so online is one of the new alternatives we have access to right now. Why not do it the right way and when you buy, chances are you will like what you bought! Glad you enjoy the cooking videos. I haven't been making as many lately because they don't seem as popular as my other videos but take as long to make due to the editing! 😃

    Awesome interesting video. Now I can keep a look out for these at estate sales or flea markets. Stay safe.

      Thanks, you too! I just felt that was some information I hadn't really shared before that could benefit folks shopping online now that estate sales aren't really available. I sure do miss them because I have gotten some great stuff for my collection and to flip online. Stay tuned as I have another video of skillets I picked up online that were very reasonable in cost. The deals are out there, one just needs to be patient! 😉

    Excellent vedio, I'll watch several times because the content was so good. I just finished a no.9 small block and a no.3 Wapak that look new. Several days of lye was all that was needed.

      Excellent! Isn't it fun to see these skillets come back to life? If you saw my #6 Griswold (cleaned up easily so 1-2 soaks in lye with a vinegar rinse was all it needed) and my #7 Griswold (a bit more stubborn, so it spent an additional day or two in the lye bath with periodic scrubbing between soaks) and they both came out looking as clean as could be! This method works just as well as electrolysis which still needs lye to soften the old stuff. I just found another 6 that I bought online so I get to do it again once it arrives! Anyway, I appreciate your watching and I am glad it helped! 😃

      Glad you think so! I just tried to do the same thing with heavy "precious" metal as many have done in the past with smaller precious metals! lol Thanks for stopping by my friend!

    I think recently etsy.com became to the number 1 competitor of Ebay, and you could even find more items on it.

      Yes, you probably are correct. I did actually sell a cast iron skillet on the site. They sell better on eBay, but if it's been on eBay for awhile, I will cross post on Etsy. Being that Etsy is a site that specializes vintage & home made items, that platform attracts sellers of cast iron. When I last checked, it was a but pricey there too but I suppose I should check it again. They just don't have auctions which is my preferred way to pick online!

    LLS, such a great video! I can only watch so many videos from my subscribed CI freaks, about demonstrating how to cook and egg, etc. “CI freaks” is said with love, not judgment, etc.
    Anyway, great to see how you cut and cull, down the line on EBay auctions.
    I think you said you prefer auctions rather than buy it now..? Why do you prefer auctions? If I see a keeper, I want it yesterday! 2020 EBay is too crazy for me. Used to sniper bid at last 3 seconds.. now they got all this BOT stuff, can’t take chance of losing great piece. I like buy it NOW.
    Also, are you not confident with getting legit response if you ask if it’s a spinner? Yes.. you can tell usually if seller knows ANYTHING about CI. Sometimes they don’t really understand spinning.
    So.. you won’t bother with asking specific diagnosing questions, knuckle rap ringing, etc?
    Anybody should be angle to tell you whether a spinner, but ringing is iffy.
    Counting the days til lockdown over... (to say antique malls are not essential business....?? Hmm?? Humor inserted. 😉

      Thanks Chris. I figured I needed to do something a bit different, so why not a mini tutorial?! 😉 I had to train myself to record my screen to do this the correct way without a mic, but alas I figured out a way to do it. There was a skillet in my search that I was interested in. It was featured in the list of 8 auction skillets. Can you guess which one? Well, I won it and will try and flip if the comps are good with its condition, but if not, it will go into my collection. I only have 1 #6 and it's a Wagner that is a mini spinner, but cooks just fine. It would be nice to add a Griswold. I just love the large logo ones. I love the fonts and just the way they look on the bottom. There isn't much difference in the quality between the small & large logo other than the look. I too can't wait until our state opens up. I want to go buy up a bunch of cast iron to restore. It is so much fun and I am chomping at the bit. As to buy it now, I like auctions because I still snipe them and it prevents emotions from causing me to over pay! I figure another one will come along although sometimes depending on the skillet, I have to wait a while. Such is life! Anyway, I am glad you stopped by and watched the video! :-)

      Same here! I am really missing my estate/barn sales & antique mall honey holes! If I weren't desperate, I wouldn't be buying this stuff online, but I need my fix for the least amount of money possible and figured others would too! lol Thanks for watching. 😊

    You did a great job restoring those skillets. They look almost like new. Are the large logo Griswolds more valuable than the small logo?

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you Mary Ellen! I got lucky in buying skillets that had good "bones" which made it a little easier. The #7 had to soak a little longer in lye and had more repeated scrubbings between soaks to get the gunk off, but it worked. To answer your question, the large logo Griswolds are generally more valuable to collectors than the small logo version because the design simply appeals to more collects than the small. I can't say I disagree with them, but the quality is very much the same between the two series as I have both.
      Just to give you an example, my #8 Griswold small logo seen in this video sold on Saturday an hour after I listed it for $95 which included shipping. The profit was still there because I didn't pay much for it. I sold the #7 yesterday for my full asking price (it had a best offer option available) of $139.99 plus priority shipping. It sold for more because of the rarity of that skillet in restored condition and because it was a large logo. All factors being equal, a small logo of the same size wouldn't fetch as much. Stay tuned, I have more on the way (online purchases of course!). 😃

    Sorry to over ramble here.. but serious question.
    When you state that a shipping charge is high, how do we as consumers judge the shipping charge?
    I’m not new at this, but in the end.. I don’t really think about shipping. If I really want an item, I’m all in.
    But do you think that some sellers are reaping $$ From over charging shipping, or is it the shipping method they use?

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  4 роки тому +1

      Ok. Here's the deal. Shipping is charged based on the package dimensions or the weight, whichever is greater. If you can keep the shipping less than a half cubic foot, then depending on which zone it is going to, you can save by shipping it with cubic rates. It is kind of complicated but shipping typically runs from $10-16 dollars to ship a #6-7 size skillet. If they are charging $20+, then that means the sellers are charging a shipping and handling fee on top of the USPS counter rates on shipping. You will never know for sure (I don't) but eBay sellers get a discounted rate to ship, so they can cover their cost of supplies and time in shipping the item. The buyer will pay the counter rate for example $10.70 to ship their item The seller pays $8.60 for the label so they make a couple of bucks on the shipping, which just helps them cover the cost. If a seller adds the S & H charge, then it really boosts the shipping up. That's how you can tell if the shipping charges are out of line. Does this make sense?

    wonder why some have heat rings? Just went to my local second hand store....and they were asking 29.00 for 2 griswold pans with a big print but heat rings?

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  4 роки тому

      I can't comment for sure without seeing them. My guess is that when you say print, it was the Large Block Logo (double circle Griswold with cross logo that measures 3.25" across) and I assume they had heat rings. The heat rings were there to correspond with the indentations on the old style cook stoves so the skillets would stay put and lock into place while cooking. Skillets with heat rings are generally older than ones without and far more collectible. If those skillets had the large block logo with the heat rings and they wanted $29 for BOTH of those skillets, I would have grabbed them before he could change his mind as long as they were in decent shape.

    I won't buy online I hear to many bad stores of broken or damaged and a couple stories were they sent the wrong piece it doesn't even look like what's in the picture

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  Рік тому +1

      Yes, it is tricky buying online. I have been an eBay seller, so I know the "ropes" so to speak. I have purchased many pans on eBay, but only had issues with one that was severely warped and not as the seller described. I got my money back and gave the pan away! As to not getting fakes, that can happen in person too as that happened to me at a flea market. Knowing your pieces will really help cutting down on getting swindled! Good luck!
