Antique Cast Iron Restore ~ Griswold Skillet Restoration

- Hey everyone. Here is how I restored the small block Griswold, no 8 skillet that you may have seen from my antique haul video. Often times I use multiple methods to restore my cast iron pieces. I usually sent it to my electrolysis tank first. This removes rust, crud, and all the yucky stuff from the piece. If I have some stubborn spots, or I am short on time to babysit the tank, I opt for the lye oven cleaner method. These two methods have never failed me. In the case of this pan, there was an unexpected, not-so-good surprise. Hope you enjoy seeing the process.
Thanks for your video. I share your enthusiasm for the Small Logo Griswold. I have a Small Logo Griswold double skillet which I just love. You are doing it justice by cooking with it. It was meant to be cooked in so you are helping it achieve its mission in life.
I also have about 20 Pre-Griswold Erie, Slant Logo and Large Block Logo Griswold pans. I haven't found time to use most of them yet, but I will!
Thank you so much!!!! I appreciate the info you’ve provided for us. I have a griswold oven roaster, 3 pieces, full cast iron and I’ve used it but not frequently enough…. It needs a good cleaning and I found your video first ❤
they turned out so nice, I inherited my husbands moms 2 19390’s cast iron and the outside is so thick. but the inside is like glass. I’m glad I watched this now I know which oven cleaner to use.
Thank you.
Get a lye tank. They take the heavy stuff off cheaper and more thorough. Best for the really crusty ones like that Griswold. Use that for pancakes and cornbread ect.
Thanks very informative 👌👍
MHmmmm looks like a sling blade. Reckon you could cook some French fried taters in that pan. Mmhhmmm
Do you know anyone willing to weld the crack?
Actually my neighbor is a professional welder and would probably do it for free but I don’t think it’d be worth it to me.
@@TheUpNorthHome I do think it’s very much worth it. Why did we ever stop fixing stuff? My grandfather used to fix literally everything. Heck, my husband basically fixes everything worth fixing and an old beautiful pan is definitely worth fixing in my mind.
