Your video was the magic moment for me. My TCCM is located next to the radio behind the 4x4 control knob. I tried the loops in the holes to get radio out and it wouldn’t budge. I seen your video and took whole panel out to get to module. It still would have been tough to get to just removing the radio. So much easier taking out 2 screws. Change out fixed my 4x4 issue. I bought the module online new manufactured by Ford for 250. Ford dealer wanted 467 and 200 to replace it. Thank you for helping me save 500 bucks.
Chris I was putting a radio in my 2003 ford f150. I UA-cam how to do it and this video came up. I know it has been 10 years ago but it helped me. Your videos have improved so much since you made this video. Can’t wait for the Christmas Gift idea video
If you go aftermarket it can vary... Typically you buy either a "single din" or "double din" radio. The truck has a large, "double din" so I would go with that... Then they provide a wiring harness that connects your existing wires to the new radio... It is all plug and play and really easy to do! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Coming back to watch your old vids, vs the vids you make now. You sound so much more energetic and passionate. I am so happy i've been a subscriber of yours for many years, watching you grow. It makes me happy to see that you're happy. Giving back to your parents. Just an awesome feeling. Way to go Chris!!!
Yeah, I noticed that too! He became more excited and more pro as the years went by. Chris deserves all the kudos and subs that he gets - he really is very skilled and entertaining and doesn't talk down to us. He also makes it all sound so easy to do. Well done Chris. He is very diverse with what he offers.
Tip of the day: the "pull out" method doesn't always work!! The amount of double entendres in most of your videos over the years are through the roof. Glad I can show my immaturity once again. Godbless brotha!!
Don’t forget you went from a cassette aux cable player in your Mazda truck to a h1 hummer and you are now one of the biggest auto mechanic youtuber humble beginnings are something else
Nice job on the video. Thanks! You can remove the radio WITHOUT removing the bezel if you have a din removal "key". To make one,it's actually two pieces, bend two long pieces of coat hanger into a U shape. Insert the ends of each U into the two holes on either side of the radio. This pushes those clips in that are on the sides and then use the bent wire U's to pull the the radio out. Then remove the electrical and antennae plugs.
Thank you so much Chris, I just used this tutorial to help take out my old pioneer on my 97 ranger to install a brand new/updated one. (I'm 14 btw, ur helping me get started young)
Perfect. I've actually been looking to remove my bezel and radio, because I'm looking to repaint my bezel and other stock black trims in my 99 Ranger. Very useful knowledge.
I am not sure what the wires could be because there are so many things that it might be. Look up the owners manual online and it will tell you what those color wires do. As for the other radio, you can get an adapter (not sure the part #) that will allow you to connect the stock radio wiring harness to the new sony head unit... Walmart sells them as well as amazon.
I have used the walmart kits before. They are good and dont cost a fortune. You can also try the major auto stores (Autozone, advanced auto, pep boys, etc) but they will be more expensive.
Imagine in the 90s seeing someone replace a CD player for a Tape deck haha. Thanks for the video! I just got a Pioneer double DIN rig that'll hopefully work great with my phone.
Yea, I cant find him on there now either... Try amazon and also call your local junk yard... Sometimes it's just about waiting... But it looks like the head units went up in price!
And once again you are a lifesaver. I was about to ask on your new video to make a video on how to take off the bezel before I thought I would do a double check through your channel one last time and not only did you show how to take off the bezel you showed the exact same bezel I have in my 1995 explorer. My problem is that I was always calling it center console which is not this. I think one of the clips is damaged/destroyed because it hangs off kinda and I didn't want to risk breaking it further because the only replacement parts I could find under "radio center console" was $200 used. Looking up radio bezel I found them for $70 new and I might not even have to replace the whole thing, just one or 2 clips.
Excellent video, thanks for posting. I ended up using the coat hanger method but it was interesting to see the "scenic route" to truck radio replacement.
Yeah, you need a wiring harness to install it. I mean, unless you feel like chopping off your factory harness clip and using a wiring diagram to splice the wires to the head unit. It can be done, but it's a huge pain.
you dont chop off the old harness 😂😂😂😂 you get a wiring harness and it just plugs into the factory plug. you DO have to wire the radio to the new harness. but its color to color lol. i install these all the time and you made my day because you have no clue what your talking about0
mate your channel is amazing , the way you explain its amazing ! all your tips are very helpful ! simply the best ! ..it would be cool if you could do a video of in deep how to properly change a car stereo and tips, tools and things to look forward ...just an idea ...many thanks Chris !
I know how it is fixing problems previous owners caused. But I thank them because I’ve had allot of fun fixing things like the radio, A/C and the electric door locks and a few other things :)
I saw another video where the guy used 4 nails, instead of the “special” tool, to pull the radio out through the bezel, instead of taking the bezel out of the dash. It also looks easier to pry the bezel out at the bottom.
The stock radio is a double din so I would think any double din should fit... If you want to make sure then go and measure the stock radio and compare it to the one you want to buy.
You don,t have to take off the molding, those 2 little holes on each side of the radio are for getting the radio out, cut and fashion two u-shape out of a wire hanger 4 inches long each, push them into holes it releases lock tabs ,pull radio out....
If you're putting in a new stereo, it's much easier to remove the panel. I could never get those snap-together, cheap plastic kits to fit perfectly. Every new radio I tried sliding in and snapping from the front was never secure, and could be yanked out in seconds. Removing the bezel, you can secure it from behind. It's only a couple screws and a minute's work.
Hey Chris fix. I saw in your newer videos, you have an android set up in your Mazda 3000. If you could do your usual step by step video. I would appreciate it buddy. Keep up the amazing work 🤙🏻
Hey Chris! I was changing my radio a couple of days ago and found out you can use a wire hanger instead of a screwdirver. Just cut it and make a two prong fork!
chris you must have fixed or replaced almost every part on your mazda! love how i havent heard you yell, curse or kick anything around you in a video, anytime my cars on a hoist it takes longer than anticipated and usually have many more seized or stripped bolts than you seem to get hahaha
I actually prefer the look of stock radios over aftermarket myself. I got a Bluetooth fm transmitter to avoid having some shiny, weird, gaudy looking thing standing out and looking odd. Just not a huge fan of aftermarket radio look.
J3l1yr01l5 Great! If you want, they sell a tool that makes the job even easier. I didnt want to buy the tool but some people use two metal wire coat hangers to press in the four little holes on the side of the radio. That makes the radio pop right out. Or you can just do what I did in the video lol
ChrisFix Cool I'll look into that tool. Can you answer just one more question? The radio in my truck is a double din but when i do some research it says the radio is too big for my slot. Should i just get a single slot radio?
You can fit any double din radio in the spot of our double din radio. I dont know why it would say that. Maybe try to find dimensions and measure it... I would think the only limitation is depth but our stock radios are pretty deep.
Your speakers sound amazing, I've never seen any of these with stock speakers that weren't shredded, my friends truck is missing the entire surround of the speakers and they are all blown, his parents don't want him to upgrade so they won't pay and he doesn't have job yet or 18.
I replaced the radio on our 01 Ford Escape and I actually made two of those tools out of a coat hanger. It worked great, and I didn't have to remove the bezel.
Hey Chris let me just start out with saying that I love your videos. I enjoy watching them on my spare time just because. Some being quite helpful for me. But with this video I notice you're taking extra steps for removing the radio. It would be much easier to buy the tool to remove the radio (Walmart sells a set for around $10) and by-pass removing the bezel all together by sticking the two removal tools in and grabbing the radio by the cassette player and pulling out following up by undoing the clips and removing the radio all together and then reversing the process.
You don't need to remove the whole bezel to do this. Just use the clip remover tools and if you don't have those then a couple of pieces of coat hangers bent into a C shape will work. Insert the ends into the holes on the face of the radio till you hear a click then push the hangers wires towards the outer sides of the radio and the radio will pull straight out of the bezel.
However to upgrade to a pioneer, you have to wire up the pioneer plug to a separate adapter that you buy, make sure the connections are stable if you do so because mine has a loose one and I had to redo the thing last night (my truck is an 01 ranger)
first wanna say grate vids but i just removed my radio and all i used was 2 pieces of coat hanger and popped the radio out unplugged it and going to find another just plug it in and pop back into dash ;-)
Hey Chris, Thanks for sharing this video! I have a 2007 Ford RaNGER 4x4 THAT THE RADIO JUST DIED LAST WEEK, SO i WENT TO MY HANDY yOUTUBE CHANNEL TO FIND HELP ON REMOVING IT AND THERE YOU WHERE! Thanks again! Darn hit that caps button again! HAHA!
There are four holes in the front of the radio that allow you to use a special tool (or, pieces of coat hanger bent to fit) to remove the radio without taking apart the center of the dash.
I love watching old chrisfix videos because you really get to see how much more confident he’s gotten

Chris, I want to see your new radio set up. The touch screen one. Great job and thank you.
looking to replace the radio on my GF’s truck for Christmas and y’all wouldn’t believe the joy i felt seeing a ChrisFix video on it

Wow, so old, no "Hey guys, Chris Fix here!"
Adam Franklin, nice quote!
David Smalldridge, nice quote!

Woah, the tone of this video is waaaay different from the new stuff.
HEYYYYY! CHRISS FIXXX HERE!!!!
Mario Olivas i think it goes Hey guys!ChrisFix here
Haha riiight?!
No problem! Glad it helped!!! The whole idea is you can learn to do it yourself and save a pretty penny =)
9:33 Not sure if it was intentional, but it gave me a chuckle after he was fiddling with so many keys and the radio just says "No"
I can't stop laughing 🤣🤣🤣
What do you mean "the radio just says "no" "?
As he said, "the radio works"
Thanks for leaving the old vids up Chris, just pulled the radio on my B2500 and this was super helpful
It should be plug and play if you got the correct wiring harness... Good luck with the install.. Sounds like an awesome radio!
Thank you so much Chris, I just used this tutorial to help take out my old pioneer on my 97 ranger to install a brand new/updated one.
(I'm 14 btw, ur helping me get started young)
Thanks for the comment! Im glad I am reaching that far out!!!
Perfect. I've actually been looking to remove my bezel and radio, because I'm looking to repaint my bezel and other stock black trims in my 99 Ranger. Very useful knowledge.
sounds awesome!!!! Good Luck!
Bruh who you replying to?
Yea, thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I didnt have a wire coat hanger but that way would def work lol

2:45 this is the first ”just like that"😍
I am not sure but I know it isnt hard. Ford does a good job making it easy to get behind the panels!
Old Chrisfix is nothing like chrisfix we have today
No prob man! Glad it helped! Good luck!
Hi
Really great video. Clear and completely coherent. Can't upvote enough.
Thanks a lot man! I try to make all of my "how to" videos like that! The more videos I make, the better they get!
I have used the walmart kits before. They are good and dont cost a fortune. You can also try the major auto stores (Autozone, advanced auto, pep boys, etc) but they will be more expensive.
Found this video just so I could know how to take the radio out, Im putting a nexus 7 in the place of the head unit. Thanks for the great video
+Technogizguy Productions That sounds pretty awesome!
Imagine in the 90s seeing someone replace a CD player for a Tape deck haha. Thanks for the video! I just got a Pioneer double DIN rig that'll hopefully work great with my phone.

Chris Fix, only dude I know of going from CD player to Cassette!
I dont blame him lol
No problem! Glad it helped! Give the video a thumbs up if you havent already! Thanks!
Dude Chris fix 9 years ago. Wowza

it's crazy how this was made 10 years ago... wow, i am happy for him
What’s refreshing about your intelligence is you’re not arrogant. You’ll make an amazing role model to your son one day, if you have kids.
thanks a lot!
Awesome! Glad it helped!
No prob! I hope it helped!
Go on ebay. There is a guy who refurbishes them and is asking about $40... I offered $30 and go it!
GREAT video - Just what I was looking for for my Ranger!!
You ain’t new to this you true to this, 10yrs strong
Excellent video, thanks for posting. I ended up using the coat hanger method but it was interesting to see the "scenic route" to truck radio replacement.
JD Gzan Thanks! Yea, if you have metal coat hangers you can do that as well! Or buy the part for like $2 to get it out.
Great video man. I just bought a ranger and will be adding an online FM modulator so this was very helpful
+Dave Toce Awesome Dave! Glad the video was helpful!
your channel has come so far since then, still great videos though!
i felt so bad when i saw that you were replacing your radio with the same factory type. Definitely bluetooth pioneers are the way to go.
Anthony O any clue on if I'd be needing a wiring harness to put in one of those bad boys on my b3000?
Yeah, you need a wiring harness to install it. I mean, unless you feel like chopping off your factory harness clip and using a wiring diagram to splice the wires to the head unit. It can be done, but it's a huge pain.

I think it will work just fine!
The stock radio is a double din so I would think any double din should fit... If you want to make sure then go and measure the stock radio and compare it to the one you want to buy.

Exactly !!!!!
Extra work and more chances for damages.
Juan Martinez just wouldn't work for me, and all i was doing was swapping antenna so this was GREAT and worked for me!
He literally addresses that in the video lol why dont you watch it more than just 30 seconds 😂
If you're putting in a new stereo, it's much easier to remove the panel. I could never get those snap-together, cheap plastic kits to fit perfectly. Excellent details without a bunch of extra subterfuge. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback! I try hard to make my "how to" videos concise and educational so anyone from beginners to experts can watch my videos!
Thank You for the tutorial, It helped me address the issue. Be Blessed!
The radio in my dream truck needs to be replaced! (Click, Click) Here is the answer! (Clip activates) Chris: Hey guys ChrisFix here!
This is a very helpfull video as i am putting a new radio into my ol ranger. Thank you very much chris!!
ChrisFix Intro is crying out: “Driftstang needs a new clutch from grinding during my drifts” 😂
No prob! That isnt a bad price at all!
Hey Chris! I was changing my radio a couple of days ago and found out you can use a wire hanger instead of a screwdirver. Just cut it and make a two prong fork!
Thanks Chrisfix! Love you channel man I was thinking about replacing the radio in my 05’ ranger so thanks man this looks really easy
Thanks for this video it helped so much I didn't know about those screws
A shirtless Chris! Haha. You have gone a long way, man. Congrats.
They make adapters for smaller radios. It will not fit without the adapter. It is basically a plate that goes around the radio to fill the gaps.
This needs to be updated to show that the "cassette" is no longer required to play your own music! Just use a 3.5 mm audio cable.
chris you must have fixed or replaced almost every part on your mazda! love how i havent heard you yell, curse or kick anything around you in a video, anytime my cars on a hoist it takes longer than anticipated and usually have many more seized or stripped bolts than you seem to get hahaha
I explain at 4:15 that I dont have that tool and instead of buying one, I took this apart... Thanks tho!
Thanks!
I actually prefer the look of stock radios over aftermarket myself. I got a Bluetooth fm transmitter to avoid having some shiny, weird, gaudy looking thing standing out and looking odd. Just not a huge fan of aftermarket radio look.
me too, the text on the buttons of the radio should match the rest of the car.
Ryan Amberger
I'm going to the movies with a friend who is the best of cars he is Chris fix
Keeps some crackhead from breaking into your truck just to steal your radio, too. Nobody wants these stock radios.
If you get a lot for the radio you can install a general looking single dim radio with something like a storage cubby on it's bottom
Great video! I'm buying a new radio for my 2004 Ranger and am going to use this as a tutorial for the installation.
J3l1yr01l5 Great! If you want, they sell a tool that makes the job even easier. I didnt want to buy the tool but some people use two metal wire coat hangers to press in the four little holes on the side of the radio. That makes the radio pop right out. Or you can just do what I did in the video lol

Awesome. Thanks for your help and extremely quick response!
I guess really small nails might work. Cool tip, thanks!
2012 Chris Fix: today we will be replacing the radio...
2021 Chris Fix: HEY GUYS! CHRIS FIX HERE AND TODAY I WILL BE REPLACING THE RADIO IN MY TRUCK!
I'm watching this now since I just got a 2005 Ford Ranger!
Your speakers sound amazing, I've never seen any of these with stock speakers that weren't shredded, my friends truck is missing the entire surround of the speakers and they are all blown, his parents don't want him to upgrade so they won't pay and he doesn't have job yet or 18.
It should only blink when you shut the car off... It is to deter thieves...
4:15 That tool is called a metal clothes hanger bent in the shape of a "U". Slides right in the holes and pop the stereo out nice and easy.
I replaced the radio on our 01 Ford Escape and I actually made two of those tools out of a coat hanger. It worked great, and I didn't have to remove the bezel.
jakethesnakemo Thanks for sharing! That is another great method to get this out if you have some metal coat hangers!
I know a kid down the street could of had that out in 45secs. Lol
Good video
it is real easy to do (as you prob saw)... Gonna paint it the color of the truck or what?
Hey Chris let me just start out with saying that I love your videos. I enjoy watching them on my spare time just because. Some being quite helpful for me. But with this video I notice you're taking extra steps for removing the radio. It would be much easier to buy the tool to remove the radio (Walmart sells a set for around $10) and by-pass removing the bezel all together by sticking the two removal tools in and grabbing the radio by the cassette player and pulling out following up by undoing the clips and removing the radio all together and then reversing the process.
+Jeffrey Youngblood Thanks a lot! The idea was to show how to remove the radio without any special tools.
+ChrisFix
I don't think 2 pieces of coat hanger count as a special tool.
My 1999 Ranger Radio is NOT functioning. With this video I will be fixing mine.
Thanks for the tip!
However to upgrade to a pioneer, you have to wire up the pioneer plug to a separate adapter that you buy, make sure the connections are stable if you do so because mine has a loose one and I had to redo the thing last night (my truck is an 01 ranger)
Definitely a good thing to check
I got it off ebay. A guy re-manufactures them and it costs only $30-40... just do a search on Ebay.
Thanks for that instruction! It was an easy way to do it :)
Hey Chris
The 2 holes on both side of the radio if you push them in it releases the radio with out taking the dash off I used a Allenkey
Good job. I am starting my replacement today!
+Verne Rainey Thanks!
first wanna say grate vids but i just removed my radio and all i used was 2 pieces of coat hanger and popped the radio out unplugged it and going to find another just plug it in and pop back into dash ;-)
This helped so much! Installed a pioneer Bluetooth and an amp thing for bass
Awesome! Glad the video was helpful!
Excelente video the Best i can SEE thanks a lot 👍
Me: This Radio On The Dashboard Of My Dream Truck Needs To Be Replaced!
How To Do This?
Chris: Hey Guys ChrisFix Here!
Thank you for saying the size of tools needed! Most dont and that annoys me
Thanks dude that helps a lot ill change mine tomorrow
sweat now I can do that same honey-do for my wife's B3000, thanks bro!
Yo have a wife but don't know how to spell sweet lol nah man I'm just messing with ya seriously tho good for u
