  • It is being called Canada's most expensive natural disaster. This is a before look at two of the roads in British Columbia that suffered catastrophic damage on November 13 and 14 2021 as part of that disaster. This is just a look from a tourism perspective and not even considering the horrendous impact this catastrophe will have on the residents that live and work along these roads.

Well, that was a real eye-opener! Without this video, most folks outside of Western Canada would not realise the colossal damage caused by the terrible floods! First the wildfires, then the floods! Crazy weather we are having at the moment! Many thanks for the Video! A wonderful bit of filming and editing! I enjoy watching all your videos! Well done, Sir! Take care, all...😀...😀...!

It has been a crazy year here in BC. In the summer we had a record hot summer and record in length too. It was great for making hay but to the south it was absolutely catastrophic. The forest fire that destroyed the town of Lytton gave no warning, from the time it started to the time it had completely engulfed the town was literally minutes. The whole town was lost, hotels, motels, grocery store, residences, museum, all gone. And the fires in the canyon raged for a couple months keeping Hwy 1 closed. On a personal note I worked out of Lytton for several years and made the town my home base. Now the same area is hit with these "atmospheric rivers" that are dumping huge amounts of rain on the ground that is devoid of vegetation. Further to the north, where I am, the grocery stores are empty, shelves completely bare, as most food and goods come through the port of Vancouver and then up Hwy 1 and Hwy 5. There are 4 roads that connect the interior with the coast 1, 3, 5, and 99, and all have been closed. It is really incredible the year we have been having.
Anyway, thanks for watching, and leaving a comment.

Holy smokes! Unbelievable devastation. Never even heard about it here. Can't be too many other road choices out there. You wonder how people will be able to function. What a shame. Thanks for the video. I had no idea.

What a year for us. BC had big forest fires in the south this summer. The town of Lytton went up in smoke in a matter of minutes in one fire. Everything lost. Lytton is between Jackass Mtn and Tank Hill mentioned in this vid. Now the 2 main highways from the coast into the interior are closed down, and for months before they even reopen with temporary repairs. The other 2 highways are damaged as well but not so seriously, but even in good condition not recommended for heavy traffic and especially during the winter. The grocery store shelves in the interior are literally bare, and the government has declared a state of emergency for the province, with essential travel only. Add to that the Covid lockdown which continues, no vaccine no anything, no mask no entry, etc. etc. It has been quite the year!

Wow, the news showed partial pictures of the damage, but didn't realize it was so bad. Thank you for sharing that. I really hope 1 day it is all restored as BC was on my bucket list to ride now that I have a bike.

Still put BC on your bucket list, lots of good rides. But wait until traffic flows are closer to normal with more roads open. At the moment the traffic is way too heavy on the roads that would be really good rides for them to be enjoyable. Hey thanks for watching, and leaving a comment.

What a shame. Hope they can get them rebuilt soon. Thanks for producing this video. Very informative.

Thanks for watching. The roads are going to take a long time to rebuild, they are talking temporary repairs by spring on some of them. I saw a pic of Hwy 1 at Tank Hill. The railway just put in a big fill where the hwy underpass was to get the trains rolling again, they will deal with the highway later, much later.

Thanks Wayne. I am back. I try to do vids during the winter when everything is under snow, and this year my winter started early with my foot being broke so my vids are coming out a little earlier. Stay tuned, and keep the comments coming, I really appreciate hearing from viewers.

Man that is a real disaster. I know you loved riding those rides. I've watched you do it. Hope it all gets fixed.

The main arteries, Hwy 1 and 5 are so badly damaged they are saying temporary repairs will take until sometime in the next year, and then they will reopen them. Hwy 8 is beyond bad, over 10 miles just gone, 18 different locations initially identified, and it was a low traffic road, so it will be put way down the list for rebuilding. It was a great road to ride, but also what about the people that lived along it, even if there place is still standing, with no way in or out, they have lost their homes.

The scope of the disaster is really incredible, they are still referring to it as the most expensive natural disaster in Canadian History. Essential travel is still in place and will be for several more months, store shelves are hit and miss stock wise as transport trucks are limited, our only route between the coast and the interior is actually through the U.S., and on it goes.

It has been really bad. Up north where I am the grocery store shelves have been empty, like not just toilet paper but everything. We are completely cut off from our port where everything comes in. Vancouver on the other hand is completely cut off from Canada, gas rationing etc. The whole province is under a State of Emergency, essential travel and such, and winter is setting in as well. And some of my favorite roads are gone, maybe forever. The main highways they are saying might reopen sometime next spring. Lots of people I know in the canyon have lost everything, and it goes on.

@@RobertMerz sounds bad. But, I would bet my bottom dollar, that almost all roads will be replaced eventually. Thus, you’ll have all these freshly paved blacktop roads to choose from. At least, that’s what I feel will be the upside for you.
