    Wow..That's big-time cool. I've always wanted to go there, I was close in 2011 when we rode up U.S 89 from Glacier National Park to the Canadian Border, no passport so that was the end of the line, back to Glacier and Going to the Sun Road which was good also. Love this, I think it's the best bike video of seen. Cheer Robert!

      Thanks Wade! It isn't a challenging road on a bike, or a car for that matter, but it is very impressive scenery!

    I've ridden from Tofino to St Johns Nfld on my bike and this route probably 10 times. I would say this is the most scenic stretch of Highway I've ridden in Canada when it's a clear sunny day.

      It is a gorgeous scenic Highway. You are very lucky to have been on it that many times. You are right though, if it is cloudy, it is nothing special really and if it is raining, well that is another story entirely.

    Visited from the U.K. and did this, fantastic. Saw a huge grizzly at the roadside, put me off walking in the woods. Food quite expensive in that area isn't it.

      Anything around or in the National Parks is over inflated, except of course the scenery! A really good idea if you come back for a visit is to purchase a Bear Pepper Spray, and of course understand how to use it. In the parks wildlife is quite common to encounter, the animals have become used to people, outside the parks there are often lots of animals as well but they tend to avoid human contact.
      I am glad you enjoyed this part of your trip, it truly is fantastic scenery. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

      I only had a short time to record video on this trip, and weather was not cooperating, so I didn't get that far south, but I would like to, it is another spectacular section of road.

    Beautiful country. I hope to have the privilege of a visit someday. What time of year was this?

    • @RobertMerz
      @RobertMerz  2 роки тому

      I hope you get to visit too. It really is a spectacular area. This was late August. A few years ago someone suggested in a comment that I put the date in the vid to help with trip planning, so you can usually find a date near the opening titles, and again in the end credits. Hey how is the wrist healing? It's been two years now, I hope it has healed well.

    • @SomeRandomIndvl
      @SomeRandomIndvl 2 роки тому +1

      @@RobertMerz healed OK. Got about 95% of the movement back. You are all healed up OK, I hope. Went up to Lone Pine and did Death Valley and Petrified Forest a couple of months ago. Also went on another trip up Tioga Pass.
      A question, do you have trouble with your bike when the altitude is as high as Tioga pass?

    • @RobertMerz
      @RobertMerz  2 роки тому +1

      My foot is still a long ways from healed. Met with the surgeon and he said it is healing as expected and doing well, but it has a long ways to go. He also said it was the worst he had seen of that type of injury and with the amount of damage done it will always have some loss of mobility. He did feel that the swelling will be down enough to wear my old boots in another 6 months, but for now I am wearing a large winter boot with no liner as my left foot is still about twice the size of my right foot!
      I really like Death Valley, Lone Pine, Bishop, and on, lucky guy!
      My bike is fuel injected and I wouldn't expect any altitude problems, and I haven't noticed any. The only thing that might occur is a drop in power, but I think it would not be noticeable to the average rider.

    • @SomeRandomIndvl
      @SomeRandomIndvl 2 роки тому +1

      @@RobertMerz ouch, well then hoping you have an uneventful recovery then.
      My bike is also fuel injected. It ran OK just wouldn't hold idle. It's all sorted now. Was just wondering if other people had the same problem. Cheers.

    thats a great stretch of road..... you had good traffic flows overall - I have been jammed up more than a few times through there. I had a bunch of friends on a group ride go through the week before.
    I don't know why, but I always love the turn at 14:30...
    Looking forward to part 2 - to see if you had a heart attack at the gas price, and didn't lose an arm or leg while there.

    • @RobertMerz

      I have a list of places I avoid because of the crowds and traffic, National Parks are generally on that list. But they are National Parks for a reason, and I had wanted to record the Icefields Parkway for quite sometime. By picking a time and date with lower traffic it can make the road much more enjoyable, and a better vid as well. Another trick I use is road placement, I choose my position in traffic so that it appears there is no one in font of me, I mean really 1) who likes tailgaters? and 2) who wants to watch a video of the back end of a motorhome taking up most of the frame?. So I just stay well back from other traffic, pull off when I need to find a different space, etc. With my style of vids I can put it all together when I edit and make it look like less traffic then it was.
      That big turn is a great vista, and also a transition point in the highway, from the upper, alpine areas into the glacier carved valley bottom, besides it just being a great, never ending sweeper. However in editing I had to spend a lot of time trying to shorten it's screen time and I could not find good blend positions, I try to deliver a quality, smoothly flowing ride, but also keep the video length down, and I would have liked to cut more out of the corner without losing the feeling of it and I finally settled for what is on the vid.
      I was already aware of the gas prices, I am sure they would tell you they are so high because they have to truck it in, as if the rest of us don't! Still there is some sticker shock when you see the price in real life!
