I've been looking at reviews trying to decide if I should buy IV and none of them seem to make honor to how exciting it is to watch your videos. The game is so fun to spectate, the civs have so much identity, with so many good options for different scenarios and the game does not look bad (it could look better tbh) I think this game does not get the recognition it deserves. I will buy I think
I've played aom, aoe2, and aoe4. Aoe4 is by far my favorite, I've really been enjoying this game
Edit: I like it because it's pretty, feels well balanced, the civs are each unique and very interesting (it's like I'm playing a different game from civ to civ), and the community is quite fun/nice as well
I think the game has quite a focus on being good to play. It's still a classical RTS. So there is a lot to do -- too much perhaps. But there are so many sound ques that help you with situational awareness and they blend into the atmosphere perfectly. Individual unit controls and visual are both alright; works; nothing special; also clearly tested over carefully. Normal is probably the best here. You can see how distinguishable units of different players are as a spectator. Some units inevitably bare similarities but from ground up, you can see how they are meant to be recognizable as a spectator. That would be even more important for the player who needs to make split second decisions. Meanwhile, as a player you stare at the graphics for extended duration; so you need the units and the landscape to look good. And they do.
AOE4 also removed some of the flashier micro for spectators like dodging arrow shots. I think removing micro like that (and there are more instances where AOE4 dev removed micro for micro sake) significantly extends the pool of potential players who can play AOE4 competently. These days, we all get old, become slow, yet still want to play competitive video games. AOE4 is good for that. If you know you like the aesthetics and the general idea of RTS -- minus the traditional micro demand, I'd really take advantage of the half price promotion and get it now.
go for it! find yourself a friend to play with, fast castle, use a single priest carrying a relic to steal all your enemies work force from the food farms.. laugh your ass off while you get demolished by the player stolen, best experience ever.

I think walls for The Kid played a large part in this victory. You can't play with no walls against the beast from the east. Beasty's comebacks always involved raiding the other party to death. The Kid was able to somewhat nullify that with the walls he set up.

I absolutely love Val (The Kid) as a player and I think he's a great streamer with an aptitude for teaching viewers. That said, I have *got* to believe there was an easier way to win this game several minutes earlier. It was frustrating watching him play so passive after gaining so many huge advantages. Either get your rams going or your TCs going after a huge army victory...right?

you must be unfamiliar with how Chinese works if it frustrates you to watch someone play passive AS Chinese
@@tristan4386 Well sure, but even as a Chinese player, it's possible to be *too* passive and let your opponent pull themselves back into the game.

It's so strange the deficit that Mongols have against a lot of civilizations. Mongols are probably the greatest empire ever. They took over China, they took over what would be considered Rus territory. Their horsemen and horse archers should be the best in the game. And that's just to keep it historically accurate.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaan. Glad to see an ArcheAge enjoyer. I really miss ArcheAge. I played it from alpha till the end. I mostly played during Auroria and 3rd Kingdom times. Really had a blast. The amount of Diplomacy you need to do for a stability in your own guild or your own kingdom was insane. The amount of drama the amount of backstabbing was insane. One of a kind game really.
If the devs werent so incessantly greedy, it could have been the greatest mmo out there. The vlass system was amazing. The ship battles were amazing. Land ownership, guild politicking etc was everything I ever wanted from an mmo. And then the mtx came in and you couldnt progress until you coughed up the dole
@@khuntasaurus88And then they offered AA Unchained as a pay-once-play-forever variant, only to wipe the servers and got subscription-only a couple years later. It could've been the modern UO; it let you do stuff that few other games ever had... but they wanted to get paid large sums for doing essentially nothing.

I feel like the mongols are the weakest civ in the game and they do not represent the real terror wich mongols really were in history.
These nomads were the kings of the battlefield, simply because they lived their life on the move all the time they were the perfect civilization for war. You see in reality at those times to move huge amount of men across the land and attack other people took way more time and cost than people imagine. Food, training, money. But mongols that is what they did for living.
They were the masters of horses and archery. At the time where the so famous english long bow was just a stick from the trunk of a tree. They were making composite bows from horn, sinew and other materials, bows wich were faster, more powerful, lighter, definitely not cheaper but way more advanced. The mongols horse archers were famous for their mobility on horses and precision. While longbow archers rely shooting waves or arrows in the hope of hitting something. The mongols horse achers would storm the battlefield shooting with precision each arrow at close range. In the game this civilization does not represent a bit the greatness of those people. Their archers and horses should be the fastest and best in the game. where i feel like they are the weakest.
These people in real life, the bow and arrows way their toy, their way of life since they were borned, so naturaly they would be the best archers on the battlefield. I am an archer too, i make bows, i like archery since i was a kid. And i know how difficult is to master archery and be precise while standing still. Imagine doing it while riding a horse at full speed. And yet, they did that and were able to headshoot while moving enemies from their towers or walls.
I think the simple way to represent them in the game would be so they would have faster cavalery and their units should have more damage, way more damage, especially the archers, because they were just better fighters and in real life doesn't matter who has the biggest sword or arrows. It matters who is more precises and able to hit. And they were very good at that.
I feel like you have to be a super pro player to be able to defeat or even stand up to a normal player with anyother civ. The only exploit you can do with the mongols is with the rams to be effective and that is just not fun and not historicaly acurrate.

Just a great example of how broken trade still is. casually losing 30 eco units and not beeing behinde at all. If this would have been a second TC instead of trade for the mongol, they game would have been lost long ago.

No going to lie the big zooms are not my favorite when troops are fighting. I think it looks bad and is hard to see what is happening. I would like to see it at regular zoom. Just my 2 cents :)

Tbh capture age may have been occupied with aoe2 as there are a few tournaments that are happening right now which may require a bit of capture age attention.

He's pretty much focused on Aoe2 at the moment. He did play 2 rounds of the last Outback Octagon series, but that's pretty much it I think

I didn't know what archage was, then i googled its gameplay and it looked like a fun MMO to play.
The class system was fucking fabulous (you pick 3 base classes and you get a unique combo class)pity it's dead now. Its heavily P2W in later stages to the point its unplayable
