MOST HATED BANDS VOL 4: NICKELBACK, FALL OUT BOY, KING 810
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 вер 2024
- Why do people hate Nickelback, Fall Out Boy and King 810? Some of what I touch on:
- Chad Kroeger's cringey lyrics in songs like "Something In Your Mouth" and "Everything I Wanna Do" and his drunk driving arrest
- Fall Out Boy's roots in the 90s DIY punk scene when Pete Wentz and Andy Hurley were in Killtheslavemaster, Extinction and other bands
- Why the pop-punk scene never hated Fall Out Boy, even when Pete "borrowed" lyrics from Wes Eisold of American Nightmare
- Why journalists and critics hate King 810 and David Gunn, and why their midwestern roots in Flint Michigan explain so much of it

The Punk Rock MBA already Gave it a 5 before even listening to any episode. Can’t wait!!
The last comment on nickleback sums it up well. There cover was great. They were supposed to be a COVER band lol. At least that's what musicchoice said lmao
Hey Finn. I don't have Social media so I'll ask you on here. I would like you to do, How did tool get so big? I love tool as much as the next 90s kid. But God i have no idea how or why they got so massive. in my opinion the most loyal favs ever not just metal of all bands. Name one other band who could take over 10 years to make a album and have it knock Taylor swift off the 1 spot on the billboards. Thanks keep up the good work.
I hate those bands. I like some of the bands you like, but most of the bands you say is punk is not punk dude just because you skated to it. You should really be the Emo Rock MBA. Many of the bands you like are hard core emo. Not punk at all. I don't think you know what punk is. You've lost credibility in the punk community. I'm not a boomer.
One band I never understood that gets hated so much is Pennywise. I mean, I get it if you're not about the whole SoCal surf/skate scene.
But they were the first punk band to sell 100k albums which not only saved Epitaph records at the time, but sent shockwaves in the music industry that punk was a viable music scene and not just some tiny fad. Then when major labels were plucking punk bands from the Indy labels, they never took any of the offers. And to this day they still stay true to what the scene is and is very successful.
IDK, maybe it's just the crusty scene guys (who are posers for the most part) and just hate that they got a few songs played on the local KROQ radio station? Idk, but I think it would be an interesting one. I've gotten shit talk from the "I'm more punk than you" guys who couldn't list 3 songs from the band's shirt they were wearing (I would start asking for 5 but quickly learned I had to dumb it down for them).
That moment when you realize Chad Kroeger makes better Pornogrind lyrics than most bands out there.
Clearly you have never heard Lords of acid 😂 if you don't like techno don't bother though lol
@@shhimbusy7616
God i havent heard their name in forever. This is gonna be a deep hole i dive down today..
He needs to cover "Raped By Elephants"
Lol much better than most grindcore bands
How you've gone 4 episodes and not mentioned blood on the dancefloor baffles me
Never will. Not giving them any coverage
oh shit...
@@ThePunkRockMBA fair enough I dont blame ya lol
@@ThePunkRockMBA murdered them
The Punk Rock MBA , right on. Same with Lostprophets, I assume.
King 810 is amazing. Their grasp of multiple styles and genres far exceeds that of most bands and their brutal in your face approach is real. Im from the Midwest, still live in the Midwest and you will find some of the most stand up, honest, in your face brutal people here because we go through it everyday. Not only is David Gunn an amazing musician, his poetry is out of this world! Its so raw and full of brutality, beauty, love, hate, emotion its just superb. People need to stop sleeping on King 810!!
I agree
My favourite band at the moment brains on the asphalt hits so hard
Yes thay are amazing
David’s also incredibly smart. In the self taught read a lot of books in jail way but smart nonetheless. You can give any two people the same set of tools and a dumb guy is still gonna use them in a dumb way/make minimal use of them no matter how good the tools are. Whereas the smart guy will use them as effectively as possible but merely to bolster the intelligence that’s always been there. Gunn is the latter. Dudes an incredibly vivid storyteller
Supreme. The only reason I clicked this vid. Gotta hear that even being "hated" they get love
Nickelback's lyrics aren't much of a surprise. His name is Chad after all. Gotta live up to it, i guess
Chad Chadson of Chaddington Manor
Choad Krudder

Thanx... QB... I'm sure elton John is flipping in his grave
Honestly i think that Fall Out Boy and Bring me the Horizon get hate because of how much they have changed
And got arrested for the first time when he was 9
I mean...? No shit? Lol
I get growing and maturing as a band and trying different things but BMTH went off the cliff. They went full on electronica and it’s trash
That's definitely the reason I hate FOB now. I used to think they were great and had fun music in the 00s, but I want to rip my ear drums out when their new stuff comes on
@@rcalv25 it's very theatrical now and I dont like it as much. I think it works ok for Brendon Urie though, who kinda went the same direction.

I met David from 810 when he came into my restaurant today. As someone who’s met a lot of musicians on the job he was one of my favorites. He asked my name which is something not a lot of celebrities do
I never knew anyone hated king 810
Same I am shocked
I never knew anyone who knew king 810
Joe Mama a lot of people do
Cause they are not like a real metal band even David mentions it in his podcast
Right
I think most people who don't like Fall Out Boy don't like them post hiatus when they went more pop than punk.
THE EMPTY SET Agreed
That'd be my case. Like, until Folie a Deux their sound was very good... When they decided to go pop with Save Rock N' Roll? Not so much.
And then there's American Beauty/American Psycho, an album that just tries way too hard to be something the band just never was.
Incinerate The problem is those post-hiatus albums barely involved the band. There were multiple producers hired to work on a single song. You can find a video here on UA-cam of one of the guys who produced Centuries explaining his role on the song. The guitars and bass were mostly recorded and programmed by him, and the drums of course are all sampled on every song. Melodically, I’m pretty sure the producers were responsible for guiding Patrick to sing their own ideas for songs as well. The result is something that doesn’t sound like a band anymore. Just a manufactured attempt to fit in with relevant pop music, right down to all of the random rapper collabs. I’ve still gone to a FOB live show. Even the new songs are much more exciting live because the band is actually playing them and they still play a lot of the old songs. I hope they go back into a rock band direction one day.
I gave up on them with Infinity on High, got back on the wagon with Pax Am Days, and then subsequently gave up on them again.
THE EMPTY SET I just can’t get into them, no matter how much I try
Wait what’s up with Fall Out Boy? I wasn’t aware it was “one of the most hated bands”?
1. Pop punk fans hate them for changing their sound to pop. 2. Punk fans hate them for being pop punk. 3. Emo hate them for being labeled as emo band. 4. Shitty fanbase...there ya go.
They're not that bad I like them.
They're not hated. Lmfao it's just people thinking they are, tryna get clout from hating. Smfh. They're my favorite band so I don't understand either.
they are popular. people hate what's popular. ironic, isnt it? ha
@@rickyiglesias5384 the problem with being popular you will have fangirl and famboy
King 810 is one of the few bands where I actually believe the shit they're saying. These dudes are legit terrifying and their stage presence is ominous.
I’m from the area, some stuff is 100% true shit and some of it is just stories from people they know.
yeah i saw them in Cologne recently I only went to the show for them... sadly i was so tired from uni and working extra shifts that I couldn't fully enjoy it. But it was the first time in my life were I felt like my life was worth living because I could somehow feel the music. I know it sounds weird but I felt so good during the concert, the emptiness I usually feel was suddenly gone. amazing show
The band hits harder if you are from a city that reflects his lyrics. Sometimes they are scary accurate.
Death Salomon it's amazing how therapeutic live music can be
Say what you will about King 810 but..
When the drop from Heavy Lies the Crown came and then went into Alpha and Omega on my speakers, I almost shit myself. You can't just wake up one day and write like that.

@@Npbyl This guy gets it...
That is a good song..David is well versed in the bible by the lyrics..he is not dumb by a long shoots
Just popping in to say - I really appreciate your comments on King. Their music has always given me chills. David is incredibly bright and I’m glad they brought attention to Flint. “A Conversation With God” and “La Petite Mort” from the album of the same names are absolutely incredible songs that give me such rushes of emotion they remind me why I love music in the first place.
Lmao no. Just no.
Hating on Nickelback is just a meme at this point. Same with Smash Mouth, but in reverse.
Lol! Well said
Hating nickelback will never go out of style
I don't like Nickelback because they're country music and I don't like country music. Also, they overshadow legitimately good Canadian artists.
@@kylerickert2240 Yeah, like Bryan Adams
@@MultiMidden Yeah, or Shania Twain.
Kill me.
I think Innuendo Studios nailed why the anti-Nickelback phenomenon exists years ago in one of his video essays. It’s not really their music people hate, it’s what they represented as the most aggressively-marketed act in the most commercially-friendly style of 2000’s rock. They got so much airplay and advertising that they became impossible to avoid, and it’s the inescapable marketing machine that sets people off more than anything else.
"How you remind me" is still a banger after all these years years years.
Yes
GAGAGAGAGAGA! I will now count to 3 and then I am still the unprettiest UA-camr of all time. 1...2...3. GAGAGAGAGAGA!!! Thank you for your attention, dear komm
I remember sitting at lunch in the 3rd grade when my friend came up to me and said "dude my brother found this band Nickleback and they have this sick song called How You Remind Me." Then he showed it to me the next day on limewire or Kazaa. Then it was on the radio like 15 times a day for the next 10 years
One of their few good songs, the talent of the musicians is covered up by crappy lyrics
It pains me to agree with this, can’t say you’re wrong tho
I didn't even know people hated King 810. They're pretty aight.
That's the only reason I clicked on the video, I was confused why people would hate them. I'm pretty fond of them myself
I love their aggression their music is my de-stressor I can blast that shit in the car it makes my shitty day so much better
I can see it. They make me a bit annoyed
They have messages in their music however, as always people ignore the message and go straight to hating a band.🤷♂️
They're good guys. They've even been dropping off clean water to street corners and front doorsteps in Flint
FUN FACT: "No Country for Old Men" actually has no music.
I totally forgot that lol
I mean, theres subtle instruments...
I think there's a credits song at the end composed by Carter Burwell, and then that's it, it's just a quiet ambient piece
@@gwkonyoutube well it fits the movie, they are in the middle of nowhere, what do you expect some guy in a truck starts blasting metal?
indeed. however when Javier's character goes into that gas station, there is something on the radio. :D
Honestly nickleback isn’t that bad, they’re just a generic post-grunge band.
On the other hand I think we can kind of blame them for this new wave of shitty neo-country rock, no?
Brush moment
@Jungle Bunny I feel like it's the worst parts of rock and country put together but that's just me.
I blame them for everything that led to Big Enough but thank them for screaming cowboy meme
The issue is they pollute radio stations
they literally got nothing to do with grunge lol
Despite how much I don't like King810 musically they NAIL what it was like living in places like Flint.
I was born in Cleveland and I can definitely feel this statement.
When we moved away, it was literally a culture shock. I would try to fight other kids for saying simple things, just messing with me, because I didn't understand that it was a joke. Back home, if you didn't respond with aggression, you became a target.
_ PerditionCalls _ that’s honestly heartbreaking to read.
I was born and raised in their hometown. I used to like king when they first came out because at the time i was that angry dude that was around all the bs flint had to offer. I stopped listening to them, but I still respect every choice they've made with their music and I think finn had a great perspective on them.
I can’t even say when I was younger and angrier growing up in one of the poorest counties in the us (McDowell county) I loved the tough ruggedness felt like I’ve worked with those guys and definitely had friend like them. Now I don’t care too much for it but I’m older and calmer but I completely understand why people love it.
OTR is still fucked haha
This make me concerned about the fact that Chad used to be married to Avril Lavigne...
I know.
OH YEAH I FORGOT ABOUT THAT
so thats why I felt kinda iffy about him
I was in the Detroit scene back when king (now king 810) was first doing their thing and I seen them multiple times before they had any type of album or EP and they almost completely ruined themselvesbefore making it big. Every venue they went to they ended up getting barred out and banned because of how violent and destructive their sets were. I still remember being at one of their shows and the whole venue got raided by the police, they smoked the place out to clear the crowd and everything. Those were the days back then (2008/2009)
I feel like a lot of hate for Fall Out Boy is from their transition out of Pop Punk to just Pop. But, hey, it's a business. Write what sells.
That's definitely what it is. I know it's what sells but we as in me, miss the old FOB. But things change I guess.
Pop punk doesn't sell anymore.
Mid 2000s pop punk band either broke up or change genre today.
I’ve hated fall out boy since when I was in college and all the dbags in my floor would blast sugar we’re goin down. They’ve always sucked balls!
What's funny is that if you type sellout into wikipedia's searchbar fall out boy is listed under it lmao!!
The electro dance elements they added in their music really threw me completely off the FOB train. I enjoyed their earlier stuff and just consistently was underwhelmed by their poppier dancier stuff. I think you're right on the money here. They may not be for me but hate is a strong word lol.
I actually love king 810. I think their sound is awsome dude
King is king!

David gunn is a beast. Flint town 810
Went with my friend who LOVES Nickelback and I was skeptical but actually they were one if the best live shows I've ever seen and I've been going to concerts since 1978
Good band terrible lyrics and Chad is the ultimate chad.
im kinda disapointed you never brought up how fall out boys changed muscially and got some flak for that too. its not just neckbeards but also people that miss the pop rock sound from before and now you hardly hear that many instruments.
I did bring that up
I love how he just refers to everyone who dislikes stuff he likes as “neckbeards” or just straight up talks down on them
I actually love King 810 because they’re music is just so different from everyone else’s
there actually is another justifiable reason to go read nickelback lyrics in your spare time; every time i doubt my abilities as a songwriter i'll go read some nickelback or limp bizkit lyrics to make myself feel better. like, i may be afraid the song i just wrote isn't my best work, but at least it isn't THAT!
This is deeper than any Avril Lavigne song
I guess you’ve never read Rap lyrics lol
Or disco lyrics..even worse or pretty much any mainstream pop song ..ie Barbie girl ,Baby shark 🤦🏻♂️
I also dislike Nickleback but read the lyrics to a Rihanna song or lack there of..
You forgot to mention that the lead singer from King 810 was shot and stabbed
I'd fucking hope so, otherwise going all-in on the band's gimmick would be totally fake.
Rayven Hitt LoL right. It’s a gangster rap gimmick just with metal
King 810 is personally one of my favorite bands. Then again I grew up in Gary Indiana. I lived in that shit for half my life
Damn. That’s one of the worst places in the entire country lol - my sympathies!
Growing there it taught me to fight for what's mine, and work for everything I get in life. So I can't complain
Drew Manley Gotta love growing up in the Midwest.
@@waterloo123100 indeed I kinda miss it to be honest
Drew Manley Nothing much has changed in the old Midwest. Being Iowa bound your not missing much. It is a fairly simple life here though.
Nickelback actually puts on a really good concert, very high energy and they sounded amazing. Yeah the lyrics aren't the best but they are definitely having a damn good time doing what they do.
I’d never heard of King 810 until I watched this video. I looked em up and I actually like them quite a bit. Of course I’m a Blue Collar white dude from the Midwest. When I was in the Marines years ago I met a lot of dudes from Michigan, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids and so on. They were some hardcore dudes, nothing phony about them. I could see why a bunch of hipsters from the coast wouldn’t like this shit. People from the coasts hate us anyways
Semper fi brother...KING IS LIFE 💯
🤘🏼💀🤘🏼
Grand Rapids I assure you ain’t hardcore ...
what they sing about is real sht different spin on metal but its good
Thanks for your service bro, but Grand Rapids ain’t shit. I’m from Flint, live in Detroit now. Your right we don’t play and don’t take shit. In Michigan it’s flint, detroit, and Saginaw that are the “big three” of dangerous and hardcore cities.
I hate the Coasters as well...good call
The Nickelback stuff I did not expect, holy hell. Top tier cringe.
Steel Panther should reinvent themselves into Nickelback parody act.
Using the word cringe is worse than Nickelback!

I dont care what anyone says, Far Away, Someday and How You Remind Me are all awesome songs by Nickelback.
I used to work in a kitchen with a guy who loved nickelback. We were having a horrible night and he put on their album and we all realized we knew all the lyrics and sang along and it turned the night around. I wouldn’t call myself a fan but I stopped being a hater for sure.
How You Remind me has a special place in my heart because my Gamestop had it on their playlist constantly back in the 2000s. So it takes me right back to digging around through the leftover PS1 and N64 games they were slowly trying to move out during the PS2/NGC/Xbox generation.
Dude this is the internet. That's on here forever.
you would b used to it by now probably, that's how I got with Metallica as a kid just had to excepted that everyone thought they were tryhards!!!
Don’t forget Savin Me. Rockstar is a fun song.
FOB was one of my favorites growing up and I still love / listen to their first 4 albums regularly. As an “older” fan, I got to enjoy them in their first “phase” before their hiatus after Folie a Deux. After they came back, they adopted a style change that I personally wasn’t as into (extra pop, less instruments, not as clever / interesting lyrics from pete) which turned me off from listening. I think that divide is really what brings most of the hate now, FOB now has a younger fan base and those around from the pre SRAR album occasionally write off all their albums post hiatus as trash. They’re still talented dudes, some people just can’t handle bands changing their sound in a mature way
Yeah the FOB fanbase has a strange split in the fans depending on age. Moreso than other bands. The older fabs who liked FOB pre-hiatis (like me), and the younger fans who got into them post-hiatus.
There is nothing over exaggerated about king 810...
Come to flint and look around.
Visit Flint, check out the blight, stay for the Machine Shop and the Capitol Theatre? :)

Who would go to Flint on purpose? I don't mean this as a disrespect to those who live there, I sympathize with the people of Flint. If there is a city in America that's been shit on more by local politicians and corporations I never heard of it.
@@JG-ux7of I would go to Flint on purpose for their music scene. In fact, I *have,* and will again. See the venues I listed above. The Capitol Theatre is excellent, and the Machine Shop comes highly recommended. (Flint is a little out of my way and definitely outside my comfort zone, but I've gone further afield for good live shows, so...)
I have a friend from flint and asked him if the music was accurate. He said it’s pretty much how it goes. He also said it doesn’t mean you’re getting shot outta nowhere but you don’t fuck around
Appreciate the positive commentary on King810. I'm from Flint and have been following these boys since they were Ares Letum. Everyone loves to hate on King810 (even people around here) and I guess I get it. They're out there, they're different, they're preaching to the world about things people don't want to talk about. But I think David is a highly intelligent music writer, and that comes through in a majority of his lyrics and overall presence.
Dude you're the only person that has a platform that actually understands and acknowledges the rawness and violence that the drug trade in the Midwest bred.

@@NthngLeftToBurn from Indiana and it’s the same here. I remember growing up with meth labs everywhere and it seems like it just gets worse.
Having grown up around St Louis with all the rioting and shit going on, everyone always seemed to want to kill someone, the general atmosphere of the region, king just fits in, if you have to live in an area like this, the music just fits.
Derrick Wiedemann I grew up on the Illinois side of the river in STL. There are definitely areas that fit the bleak Midwest feel. I can’t imagine what areas throughout the rust belt are like.
Imagine hating a band that masters so many genres. King 810 is waaaay underrated! Why worry about their image when they produce some of the most amazing music out there?
After listening to snippets of a few songs off of their 2019 album Suicide King, they seem to have an obsession with hip-hop music. I could hear some rap elements in their previous work, but I think Suicide King is where their rap influence really shines.
I almost couldn't recognize David's voice in "Sing Me to Sleep". And I'm not trying to say that the album is bad (besides, I haven't listened to enough of the album to determine if it's bad or good), I just think that from what I heard from the album so far, it's vastly different from the KING 810 I'm used to hearing.
EDIT: I've listened to every track on Suicide King on UA-cam, and holy shit the album is amazing!

La Petit Mort is very old french slang for an orgasm, meaning "the small death"
Greg Kerr what about memoirs of a murder that whole album is amazing
A Grammy doesn’t mean shit. It’s a popularity contest and just means you put out a song or album that everyone likes. That’s why when metal bands win one they don’t give a shit about it. So no, they don’t deserve a Grammy. Their music is ok at best, not a band you would remember.

I love King 810. I saw them open a show for Korn and as soon as they finished I went to the merch stand and bought their album. Haven't had the slightest regret. The lyrics are brutal and violent but they tell a story. Just like any band that the lyrics reflect on their life experiences just a darker tone and darker stories.
Exactly. Meanwhile duh derp-diddy, jizzy-g and his fake-fro wife were talking about "their black life in da hood".
I was about to say the same, you saved me time. :D King 810 is fucking br00tal. Saw them open a show to Black Label Society it was damn epic.
Saw them open to Alpha wolf, I enjoy they’re music, but they looked like they would love to end there set early, they haven’t talked a word and kicked crowdsurfers off the stage.
Nickelback have some bangers, though they can be cringe sometimes. I think people hate them because they're the ultimate Butt Rock band, so people who hate Butt Rock would point to Nickelback as their scapegoat.
Fall Out Boy's 4 record run from Take This to Your Grave to Folie a Deux is one of the great strings of albums anyone has put out. So good at what they did. They've changed, and that's ok. 4 incredible albums I can listen to from front to back is more than I've learned I can reasonably expect out of anyone.
Trent preach it brother. The first 2 (maybe even 3) FOB albums are GOLD but after that like wasn’t the album after “From under the cork tree” exclusively released at American Eagle? No hate really just they ceased to really be a part of that punk/hardcore/power pop scene and transitioned to a more commercial aesthetic and sound
I don't even really like fob but I agree. Great albums. Solid.
@Trent: IOH and Folie are fantastic for reasons people overlook. They might not sound *entirely* the same as TTTYG and Cork Tree, but that doesn’t make them bad. The familiar pop punk elements from their first 2 albums are still there - PLUS they ushered in R&B/Funk influences which really improved/pushed their musicality and as a vocalist, Patrick has always had a “soul voice” so it really allowed him to flourish. Folie is an especially wonderful experimental record and, in my opinion, is the closest Fall Out Boy has ever gotten to reaching their full potential as a band/musicians. It’s an explosion of everything that makes FOB great/unique.
“Everyone that I know is in a cage or in a hole!” Also shout out to the rust belt DIY , life ain’t easy in the mid sleazy
Unpopular opinion. But Nickelback is in fact super important to the mid 2000s metal scene. They essentially bankrolled Roadrunner Records until 2011. Sure their music is super cringe, but they've sold A LOT of albums. Those sales funded your Slipknot albums, Trivium albums. Sure those bands were raking it in, but Nickelback was a whole different universe in sales. Just keep that in mind 😉
Good point!
Nickleback's production is so good that every modern bro-country band just copies and pastes all the settings for their albums.
I'm from Germany and just like King 810 for their music

This dude is like the Forrest Gump of alternative music. He was there for everything 😂
I know it seems that way if you're a babyface.
Really glad you brought up the class conflict aspect of King810's appeal. Just like nu-metal in a way. To many people it was cringey, aggressive, and a little off-putting. But if you were some poor, angry, confused dude that lived in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, it spoke to you and gave you a sense of comradery, because you saw how the media and the rest of society treated them, and as cringey as it sounds, it made them relatable because you saw them as fellow rejects.
It's the same reason country music is appealing to a lot of small town folks out west and in the south. Makes them feel like they have a group to belong to. The media hates everyone who isn't from the coast.
Nail on the head.
They also used to throw dead animals into the crowd at shows.. That helps

Every Nickelback album has a couple of songs I like, but most of their songs have terrible lyrics. The Betrayal (Act III) on Feed the Machine is pretty damn good.
Fall out boy isn’t even bad and is just because they changed to becoming more pop
But weren't they pop punk?
FOB was my favorite band pre-hiatus. I really can’t get into their new stuff. Trust me I’ve tried. Their first four albums are all nearly perfect to me though.
Do a video on why Limp Bizkit (and Fred Durst in particular) is hated.
He covered quite a bit of that in the what killed Numetal video
He likes you, though.
It's just one of those days.
Because all the songs were you start thinking "the musicality here's pretty good" is always ruined when you here fred come in with "YEEEE BOY!"
Motible reasons
1. Fred was a bit of a douhe bag.
2. He was blamed for the death of a 14 year old girl who got stomped in a mosh pit.
3. He was also blamed for the riots at the 1999 incarnation of Woodstock with the song Break stuff.
4. He and DJ Lethal TV turned down a diss with Eminem when Em asked if they wanted to diss Everlast resulting Limp Bizkit getting dissed.
The 4 main reasons why Limp Bizkit is one of the hated bands in history
I feel like I actually learned something in your explanation of King 810's background, so I can definitely appreciate their image a bit more with that context in mind. On the other hand I don't feel like it's a complete vindication of their violent imagery because there have been other artists that have also come from rough backdrops that made art that disavows the violence that bred them rather than feeding into it. The obvious comparison is with some sects of gangster rap. Acts like Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q and David Banner all have big experiences with gangland life but their music and image have never propagated this, and in some cases like Good Kid m.A.A.d City have actually acted against it, reflecting on their backgrounds but not glorifying it and ultimately making more contemplative and interesting art.
Still, now seeing where King 810 are coming from, I legit have a bit more respect for them and the ideas they're expressing, rather than my previously writing them off as edgelord assholes. All in all good video!
They are still edgelords, you arent wrong lol
People hate nickelback for making songs about sex, meanwhile the rap scene is full of "muh-sojiny".
The vast majority of their songs aren't about that stuff.
KING doesn't belong in this list.
I'm a metal fan from the midwest and I've never even heard of them
When they first got big playing on that one Mayhem fest people and critics reacted to it like they'd reacted to Nu metal. As in: look at this edgy white Boi band trying to jack hard-core gangsta swagger. At least that's kinda what I thought/how I remember it.
Yes it does. It's not a list of "bad bands" necessarily even though some of them are definitely bad in my opinion. The series is "most hated" bands, as in there are lots of people who hate em. Doesn't matter if their good. Doesn't matter that you like em. People CAN'T STAND THEM. and that is why they belong here.
Yes they do, I’m from Flint MI and proud of it. They are not good. They are mediocre at best.
@@wilhathaway1987 you guy ever get that water thing figured in flint??
Discovered King 810 this year, and they quickly became my favourite band of the year and easily had my top 5 songs on Spotify.
There's only two kind of people those who like Nickelback and Liars...
When Finn mentions your town and you realize it’s lowkey messed up here
I set down roots in OTR when it was the most dangerous place in the country. Literally bodies in the street. Now its highrise condos and upper class. Of course I dont live there now.
If you’re talking about Surrey then ya lol it is kinda messed up there....well in certain parts. I’m in Burnaby and don’t like to go to Surrey much.
I don't care for Nickelback's lyrics, but as you said, the production on their albums is amazing. I also like some of the riffs. Mostly I'm talking about their second album with the car on it. All the Wrong Reasons has a huge intro riff with the best Mesa guitar tone I've heard.
I also like your take on King. That's why I appreciate this channel.
I have to admit I never really paid much attention to most of Nickelback's lyrics, it was Finn here who called my attention to the mess Figured You Out is.
Not a fan but not a hater. Nickelback's production, lyrics aside, is what makes a lot of people call them bland sounding and uninspired. Quantized drum tracks covered up with samples, sampled bass, auto tuned vocals... they fell victim to the same thing so many other people did during the early aughts and into today which is letting the producer over-produce things until it's completely lifeless and bland as wallpaper paste under the guise of "polishing." It's one of the reasons why that cover of Enter Sandman ends up being so shocking, because they are fully capable of playing their instruments and delivering a song.
Chad Kroeger's DWI really isn't all that shocking in comparison to all the tons of criminal s*** other musicians and front men have gotten into... Phil Rudd trying to have someone killed and taking a plea, Randy Blythe pushing a fan to their death off of the stage, or Axl Rose's diva antics over a camera causing a riot aren't bigger acts douchbaggery?
As for lyrical content, I submit to you:
NIN: Closer,
Misfits: Die, Die My Darling,
...and the Rolling Stones: C**ksucker Blues.
Really, hating on Nickelback was just a trendy thing to do.
That album with the car on is not there second album but there 4 or 5 album. There fist album came out in 1996.
I had no idea King 810 was hated. They're one of my favorites lately.
Back when I was a teenager in high school I absolutely HATED Fall Out Boy. I'd shit on them at every chance. Now I'm about to turn 30 and I think they're a great band and I listen to them often.
Looking back, the real reason I hated them was all the girls in my age group wanted to fuck Pete Wentz and not me, and that insecurity made me channel my irritation towards the band itself. I think that's probably true for a lot of people my age.
Bingo lol
I've never heard fall out boy be hated. Unless if it was when they made pop.
The songs Finn made examples of from Nickelback are the garage of their discography. They absolutely have some bangers.
Exactly, they've got songs that kick ass, who cares if they write a couple dirty songs!
@@Mr_Epic01
Some of those lyrics featured in this video are more than dirty, they sound like the thoughts of a rapist.
People call what King 810 does “cringey”, but that’s how they live. They aren’t putting on an act or pretending to be anything, that’s them 100%
So they're 100% cringe? That's even worse
Niels Goossens I mean “cringey” is really just a word that people use against people who aren’t afraid to be themselves/be open about themselves in public. Usually used by people who have underlying insecurities.
Niels Goossens tell me good bands then
I live in the midwest and honestly forgot about King 810, I think I remember seeing maybe 2 minutes of the kill em all clip before moving on. so when I saw them listed I was thinking "who?" but as for how the video uploader described the midwest. The only thing I can say is its kinda messed up. There are some really dangerous places in the midwest thats for sure but whats really trippy is there are a lot of really nice places too. Like there are small HS football towns with okay schools with like houses with 1 million dollar price tags sitting there empty, built brand new probably for house flippers. Then maybe 15 to 20 miles away they'll be complete slums dead malls and gutter trash and dealers rolling around in BMW SUV's, its a weird place.
But even living here, King 810 isn't my thing.
@@tw19771 It's different, don't really know much about them nor do I care enough to hate on them for doing their thing. Being from the Midwest I heard about them they're alright. Corn fields, corn fields, small towns with the occasional bad city here and there. Nothing out of the ordinary for America as least expect way less corn fields.
I feel like no one actually cares about Nickelback. They had the misfortune of becoming a meme that has stuck around for ages is what it is haha
I care, they are a decent band.
If you can listen to "Post Mortal Ejaculation" by Cannibal Corpse and not be offended by necrophilia, then you can listen to "Figured You Out" by Nickelback and not be offended by misogyny.
The best thing about your channel is how objective you are about covering different bands and topics, it's super refreshing. Keep up the awesome videos!
Thank you!
Thanks for explaining the hate on King 810. Living in Germany I certainly don’t experience this kind of „culture clash“. People here love or hate them solely based on their music which happens both quite a lot due to the fact that they don’t seem to belong on a certain bill. They were touring with Slipknot and on the Impericon Never Say Die Tour and it seemed to me like especially the younger part of the audience was confused about what they were hearing.
Im pretty sure that was for their first album as they were freshly signed with Roadrunner. Not sure is label or band decision to have them on.
Knotunit Nah, not really. They were freshly signed by Roadrunner when they supported Slipknot but they were on tour with a bunch of Deathcore/Metalcore bands (Impericon Never Say Die Tour) just a couple of weeks ago.
I think that might be due to the fact that in my opinion poverty differs from 1st world country to country. Shit even here in the US we have differing poverty. Cleveland poor is rich in Flint. And the violence differs from state to state to with Michigan being insane compared to the communities in Cali, New York, and other semi dangerous states
I think most people who dislike King 810 kind of misunderstand their music. They embody the "angry midwestern guy" persona perfectly but they also reveal what lies beneath the anger. What caused the anger, and how the anger is used to cover up fear. If you actually sit down and listen to the lysics on their first major release "Memoirs of a murderer" it is the musings of a man fearing for his life. Constantly lashing out at the world because he knows that the second he backs down, he will be killed.
He wishes he could leave it behind, but a lifetime of poverty and poor decisions has landed this man in a ever deepening hole that he can't get out of. The only thing he can do to survive is to keep digging. David Gunn has said that the music is partly auto biographical, but it is also giving a voice to everyone in the same situation (which is literally stated in songs like Vendettas and State of nature).
The theme of death continued on the sophomore album "la petite mort". Here David is contemplating the consequenses of his music giving him the opportunity to actually leave all this behind and do what he want to do. This is reflected in the very different style of music on this album. He is living the life hen wants to, trying new things, but his scars run so deep that he is constantly reminded of his past and the people he left behind, who are now suffering because of him abandoning them. The fear of death is still there but he briefly forgets about it and is actually happy for a short time, until about halfway through the album when his past catches up with him and he is literally killed (in the story of album, not reality) after this, the music shifts as he accepts his fate and looks back at how he can change the future of all these people in the same situation he was in.
On the third Album "Suicide king" David has moved beyond death and has ascended and become a divine creature that watches over his former peers. he is no longer shackled by fate, life or death, he is free to do whatever he wants. "Suicide king" is the most Avant Garde of the three albums, and in a way, the most controversial, since it is not so much a cautionary tale like the albums before it. It is more pure entertainment because David in his Divine status can barely relate to us back here on earth, but that also means he is free from it all, free from poverty, violence, addiction and this terrible existence. For some, death is, unfortunately the only liberation available. Suicide is King.
Fear of death
Acceptance of death
rebirth from death
I don't want to speak for David Gunn or any of the members of King810. This is merely my interpretation of their music. They have created one of the most interesting music triptychs. strong themes, beautiful and honest prose and unforgiving honesty mixed with a very visual sense of storytelling. It is not perfect, but I would go so far as to call it a masterpiece.
on a more serious, and less ambigous note, King has used their music to actually help their community. Flint has not had clean drinking water for years at this point, like many other cities and towns in the "rust belt" of America. large communities are living in terrible conditions because of poverty and gentrification. King constantly uses their fame to bring awareness to this travesty. They have talked about this in songs like "Crow's feet" and "We gotta help ourselves" (which was specifically made to bring in money to a Flint charity. skinbackalley.com/2016/02/19/king-810-stream-new-track-crows-feet-to-raise-funds-for-flint-charity/ ) and David always mentions the water crisis in interviews.
So sure, they can seem a bit abbrasive, and David Gunns sideprojects definitely have a more basic style to them, but overall I think they are a band that people just wrote of because they seemed to be "just another stereotypical angry blue collar band from Michigan", when they are anything but.
This became a much longer comment than I anticipated. I Guess creativity got the best of me. I will use this comment as a script for a video essay about King810. Keep an eye on my YT channel, if you are interested.
King 810 ain't nothing like Five finger Death punch.
Seen them open for slipknot didnt get it. Listened to a lot of their music after... theres a lot to this band. Seen them twice after and it's the best/ one of the scariest gigs I've ever been in.
Yeah I didn’t get the comparison either. 5FDP is a pop rock band. King is pretty far from that.
This. Theres nothing like being at an outdoor venue and still having to eye all your possible exits while KING is on stage.
I don’t think he’s saying they are sonically like FFDP at all, just that the “tribalism” approach to their marketing is similar.
@@Knotunit I've seen KING in an over-capacity American Legion hall with no chance of escaping even if you wanted to. Pure fucking rage. I've never seen anything quite like it except perhaps a Winds of Plague show I was at right around the time Decimate the Weak dropped. There's some absolutely dirty and hostile energy that pours out, some people go wild from it.
They both suck
Imagine Dragons are the new Nickelback
They are SO bad live. Just mind-bogglingly bad. At least their lyrics and general personas don't seem as gross as Nickelback's, but my goodness...how on earth do they get it together enough to even record?
I hate that people hate FOB for changing because Heavens Gate is fucking ETHEREAL
One drink for every time he says "neck beards" and I don't feel so good.
RIP
It's kind of a strawman argument to back up his point.
It gets a bit tedious.
Apparently I'm one of the midwest bums who digs King 810. I had no idea people hated them to be honest, but I get it. I think the only thing that really makes me not love them more is that throughout their whole discography almost every song has the same general lyrical content and it just gets kind of old after a while,I mean they do have some songs that are different lyrically, but a majority of their songs are about the same thing.
Nah man I'm the same, my hometown is pretty close to Gary, Indiana, so I get where they're coming from. I like alot of their stuff but I can't listen to it on repeat, shit def gets old lol
Almost every bands songs have the same content. The difference is King 810 talk about things that others don’t. You notice it more with them because they arent saying the same shit that everyone else is saying.
Im not from the rust belt and i LOVE King810.. their shit is just sooo brutal.
king 810 is awesome true art, and remember: recordings can get boring only cause of
inaccurate sound reproduction. (pc/audiosystem). and i'm not talking about expensive gear, it's just takes luck to find a pc that is not damaging sound signal too heavy so it's get boring.
I hadn't put much thought into why I had stopped listening to them, but I think that's the reason. It's always the same message worded differently. I'm from flint so I kind of got tired of hearing about it.
Here's the most hated bands Fall Out Boy: never actually hated, they're actually pretty universally loved #AllFillerNoContent - yes it's a Sum41 reference, still facts.
Actually love King 810. There's a certain rawness of brutal life from Flint. Reminds me of purging emotion like NWA did.
And did like Nickelback until Rockstar came out. Long Road had a couple heavy ish tunes. But after Rockstar....shiiittttt.
Burn it to the ground, This means war, Kiss it goodbye, Edge of revolution, Million miles an hour, Feed the Machine, etc, are all heavy hitters.
dude you know Rockstar is meant to be sarcastic?
@@tidy5156 yes I do. And it's a statement on the sterotypical rock star lifestyle. But still don't like it.
I kinda like rockstar ....I know it’s meant to be a goofy song but I enjoy it
Another reason for the dislike is Chad Kroeger, but that’s not on the music side.
People say that if u play a nickelback song backwards you hear satanic things. What's worse is if you play them forward, you hear a nickelback song.
"NICKELBACK? That sounds like torture......"
Honestly, I would listen to the entire Nickelback discography before hearing that chick act again. Dear lord that was rough!
I’m kinda indifferent towards Nickelback. Same thing with Fall Out Boy.
I lived in a condo and one time my neighbor threw a party where they were singing along with their friends to Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" past midnight. The next day there was an announcement on the bulletin board that someone called a noise complaint against them. Shows you how much people hate Nickelback.
Fall Out Boy shouldn't get hate from metalheads, they are deeply rooted in hardcore lots of the members were in Arma Angelus and Racetraitor, also Patrick stump does a wicked feature on "One day I'll stay home" by Misery Signals.
Meh, most metalheads dont like hardcore. There is no connection there really other than vaguely heavy guitars. Nothing to do with us.
hussguy1990 He is also on a song with the Powerviolence band Weekend Nachos
@@jasonrundle8647 hmmm.... good question. I dont think that having heavy aggressive music is enough. There is just an element that's missing, it like an intangible feel that metal has that other music lacks. Maybe heres an anecdote: every now and then a metal guy does a hardcore album or project, take Dave Lombardo and Deadcross. It just feels like a half assed attempt at music. Deadcross is utter trash.
The more I'm thinking of it, compare Death Metal to Grindcore. Similar enough to the outsiders view. It's just one has significantly more substance.
I dunno if that answered anything. These are just some random thoughts
@@maciejnowak666all I'm really trying to say is fans of any aggressive or extreme genres should at least have more respect for fob then the average emo band because of their roots, I also tend too forgot some like metal and not hardcore, metal hardcore grindcore death metal black metal mathcore metalcore whatever I'm into it.

Alex Moreno difference is they’ll kick those pansies ass
I whole heartedly agree.
Fall Out Boy is so nostalgic for me... And you instantly become best friends with someone when you have the same songs memorized
I enjoy fob a lot!
Sure theyve turned to pop and i listen mostly to Folie, infinity on high and under the cork tree, but
every now and then i get back into listening their newer stuff too
I personally just hope they enjoy whatever they produce!
lovely video tho 💜
Pastatohtori I agree with this :))
I mean he didn't say he didn't like them. He just said they're a hated band....but like he also said they aren't? Idk lol. Apparently they're only hated by some hard-core elitists.
Thank you I was looking for some positivity without hearing what a "shitty fanbase" We are.
King 810 latest album is actually very good
Right? I'm glad Finn gave them a bit of publicity, literally nobody I know has heard of King 810. Being from northern Indiana, pretty close to Gary, I understand the shit they talk about lol
man i just love all of kings stuff front to back. the songwriting and compositions and the variety is insane. i come from a good neighbourhood in germany, so i never experienced much gangsta shit and these gritty neighbourhoods myself, but i can just appreciate how they chose to talk about it. if you really listen, it's never about bragging or being cool. just about what they are going through, what this has done to them and stuff. just super real, i will always defend them with all i have haha
The last album suck that was the worst one. And he's trying to be a rapper which doesn't sound very good at all. I love King 810 but they're newer stuff sucks.
Anachronism and that ep afterwards with brahma were the only good ones imo. In fact I still jam anachronism to this day, that album is gold.
I haven't experienced such raw energy from a band since the early days of Korn. They may never be a big band but I certainly appreciate what they've created.
I grew up listening to Nickelback. Just to make Nickelback haters mad, I have copied and pasted the entire lyrics to my all time favorite: *Photograph.*

How did our eyes get so red?
And what the hell is on Joey's head?
This is where I grew up
I think the present owner fixed it up
I never knew we ever went without
The second floor is hard for sneakin' out
And this is where I went to school
Most of the time I had better things to do
Criminal record says I broke in twice
I must of done it half a dozen times
I wonder if it's too late
Should I go back and try to graduate?
Lot's better now than it was back then
If I was them, I wouldn't let me in
Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, God, I
Every memory of lookin' out the back door
I have the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor

Blew every dollar that we ever made
The cops hated us hangin' out
They said somebody went and burnt it down
We use to listen to the radio
And sing along with every song we know
We said someday we'd find out how it feels
To sing to more than just a steering wheel
Kim's the first girl I kissed
I was so nervous that I nearly missed
She's had a couple of kids since then
I haven't seen her since God knows when
Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, God, I
Every memory of lookin' out the back door
I have the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it

I miss that town
I miss their faces
You can't erase
You can't replace it
I miss it now
I can't believe it
So hard to stay
Too hard to leave it
If I could relive those days
I know the one thing that would never change
