When Then Play On was initially released, it did not have "Oh Well" but had 4 songs penned by Danny Kirwan. It did not sell well. Suddenly, Fleetwood Mac had a hit with "Oh Well". So almost immediately, I mean within a month, Reprise deleted the original release, deleted the 4 Danny Kirwan songs: ("When You Say", "One Sunny Day", "Without You" and "My Dream") and added "Oh Well". You can seek out the British Release (I got lucky and found a copy in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1979) or buy the new reissued CD which contains everything; the Danny Kirwan tunes and "Oh Well". Also, "Station Man" from Kiln House was Pete Townsend's favorite Fleetwood Mac tune. He told that to Mick Fleetwood who conveyed it to Danny who expressed disbelief: "I would have thought he hated it." Liked it so much in fact that when Mick Fleetwood put on a tribute to Peter Green (Greenie was still alive but did not show), and Pete Townsend was invited as one of the contributors, he picked that song to play. And for those that think Townsend has his head up his ass and "it's all about him", he introduced it by saying to the audience: "listen to this" and he played the last chords from "Won't Get Fooled Again". He says something like: "enough of that" and launches into "Station Man". Suddenly at a certain part of the song, the audience realizes he lifted that riff from Danny and he was "subtly" acknowledging that fact. "Station Man" came first. You can view this on UA-cam.
Always enjoy listening to what you have to say about your favorite records, Mazzy. Keep the discussions and personal stories coming……and the humor as well.
Great video Mazzy . I was obsessed with early 70s Fleetwood Mac albums. I loved Mystery to me when it came out. I ‘ve heard that it was Mick’s personal favorite. Then Play On kicks butt also. I have an old jukebox single with Oh Well / Green Manelishi . That’s an interesting 45!
Professor Mazzy, you could ramble all you want. I think that’s most entertaining part. I learn something every time I tune in. Not sure anyone does it better.
I love your comments, your stories, your experiences... Music loves you!!! Thank you!!! Great Ranking!!! I love the Bob Welch era. No Mirage?... I suppose your rank this album before or after Tango in the night. ¿What do you think about the live album 1982? ¿What do you think about the guitar art of Buckingham? Greetings from Barcelona (Spain). 🙂
Being a very young lad ( not even in kindergarten) in 1968 , I didn’t get a chance to hear the early Fleetwood Mac records. It wasn’t until the mid 70’s that I was exposed to their record s and songs via my AM transistor radio. I subscribed to your channel not only because of your wit and charm, but mainly to hear your stories and more importantly your knowledge. Those early releases with Peter Green are fantastic and I see why you ranked them high on your list.
Super enjoyed this! Your rankings certainly upended expectations (Tango in the Night last? Whoa. Though I do agree about the problematic '80s sound), and I appreciate the perspective of someone who got so saturated with Rumours in the late '70s that you couldn't revisit it for decades. I'm too young to remember any of that. In any case, your timing is excellent as I am wrapping up a deep, deep Fleetwood Mac and all things related dive. My top tier of Mac albums include (alphabetical order) Bare Trees (fucking LOVE that one), Rumours, self-titled '75, Then Play On, Tusk. I should also mention that I really got into Buckingham's solo work, especially enjoying Go Insane and his most recent, self-titled work. Thanks again for the video. (Btw, did you forget Mirage? Or did I just miss it?)
My favorite UA-cam channel and also enjoy your IG page and your posts on the Hoffman board. Enjoy your discussion and thoughts. I like “Tango” much more than you do, but that’s what makes all of this great.
"Then Play On" has pieces of jamming scattered throughout the album with stop-and-go interludes that make it totally fascinating and engaging. Couple that with the moodier songs and the fantastic "Show-Biz Blues" and "Oh Well" and you have a "perfect" record. "Albatross" is great, but even though it isn't a Fleetwood Mac song, Peter Green's "Supernatural" on his John Mayall album, still makes the hair on my arms stand up. I believe that Carlos Santana's sustained notes were already in his bag, but he did emulate/copy Greenie. Nothing wrong with that. "Man of the World" can bring a tear to my eye.
I live in Australia so I was introduced to Fleetwood Mac through the song Albatross. Been a fan ever since - and I like all the "versions" of Fleetwood Mac. I was glad you put Tusk so high. This is a great album. There were a couple of albums I wasn't aware of. Fleetwood Mac were great because they moved through several music genres so I found it difficult to "rate" the albums. Anyway I love your videos because you put that personal touch in and you use context. Whether I (we) agree is totally irrelevant. "It's not the ending - it's the journey that is important". Thanks.
I had been waiting a long time for a ranking as good as this of my favorite band of all time. I am a collector fan of its 3 multiple phases since in each phase there is at least one great album. Thank you for the great content on your channel, I really enjoy it!.
l loved Fleetwood Mac as a blues /rock band with the great P , Green . Kirwin and Spencer three guitar lineup and rate " Then Plays On " as a classic but the Buckingham /Nicks later lineup left me cold . Never got into the bland A.O.R sanitised rock they played though l admit l am in a minority . Good vid as always Mazzy . Greetings from the U.K.
Great list. For me, I would put Tango up a bit higher. Go check out the solo Buckingham rips on Isn’t It Midnight. One of the best outro guitar burners ever recorded. Big fan of your channel.
Hey Mazzy, The Boston Concert vou can get here in Germany by Mailorder JPC. You can get it in three 2-LP Versions. The three Albums placed next to each other, make the Great Album Cover. The boxset can also be ordered, but there is a long wait. The German mailorder page can also be changed to English and they also ship to the USA. Great Records.
Difficult ranking, that’s for sure. I think Tango in the Night should of been a little higher. Lindsey’s guitar work on that was beyond brilliant. His solos on “Isn’t It Midnight” and his own tune “Tango in the Night” leave me speechless. I must say though, I totally agree with your #1 pick “Then Play On”. I don’t understand why that album isn’t held on a higher level with the top ranking albums of all time.
Cool share Mazzyman. Appreciate the stories, history and your ranking. Love it all; love the blues tone of Peter Green. Such an amazing time for music and early Fleetwood Mac really makes you dive deep into the blues/psych rabbit hole. Cheers
Totally agree with your number one choice, with Kiln House a close second. I’m a few years older than you and also was purchasing them as they came out. Was not aware of the 1970 Boston tea party album until you mentioned it a few months back. Went out and purchased it. Fantastic album!. Early Fleetwood Mac is the only Way to go!
Fleetwood Mac was one of my automatic buy bands in the 70's too. I'm surprised and happy that our rating of the albums line up really closely (except for Tusk, which I would put below 75's self-titled album). Maybe not surprising because we're both class of '72. There is a great 5 CD "Original Album Series" budget box of the best Reprise albums. Very basic but it includes Then Play On, Kiln House, Future Games, Bare Trees, and then they skip Penguin to include Mystery To Me (yay). It's about $17 on Amazon US right now. Hard to pass up. I enjoy the CD version of Then Play On because it includes the tracks that were deleted to make room for "Oh Well" on the LP version.
I first heard Then Play On during my college days-Rattlesnake Shake caught my attention for sure. Recently found a great copy at a record show and had to buy it. I totally agree with your #1 ranking.
"Then Play On" is not only their greatest album, but is in my top 10 all-time rock albums in general; would put the red 'Greatest Hits' album at #2 as it gathers those fine Peter Green era singles. I remain mostly unfamiliar with those early 70s 'transitional' albums, but recently discovered the lovely Danny Kirwan song "Dust".
I’m not sure how I missed this video but thanks for promoting it again. (Sadly because of Christine’s passing 😢) Of the entire VC your videos are my favorite with your storytelling, insights and humor although musically we tend to have very different preferences we have some common ground with FM. I lean more with Buckingham/Nicks era but to me the gold of that era is Lindsey & Christine. Their music and voices combined into two of the very best of any band! If you haven’t heard their 2017 album I highly recommend it.
I was born in 1981 so tango in the night was my intro into Fleetwood mac, my dad played it to death. It's probably up the top end for me. I do get what your saying about 1980's sound though. Great video again
Yes, Then Play On has something special. I bought a Midi pressing and didn`t saw that the songs are in different order. When i first listened to it, i was like "something`s wrong here", but now i like it that way. My favs are Then Play On, Bare Trees and Rumours. Greetings
Thanks for that Mazzy. I’ve started getting into Peter Green era Mac and I am really digging it. I’ve got a minty “Then Play On” in the mail just now and am very excited.
Big fan of the bluesy period of Fleetwood Mac and I would buy all of their Peter Green’s albums, starting with the album that got me converted, Then Play On, with the long version of Oh Well, my all time favorite song. It’s impressive how many albums you have, and the knowledge you shared, love it. I do like both bands, the one with Peter Green’s influence and the one after, which I got to know more till I moved to Spain in the 80’s and got to hear Oh Well on the radio in the middle of one night. I really loved Tusk a lot when I first heard it, and I played it the most on cassette. I’m surprised you didn’t mention Then Play On! Hahaha, I saw you put it as number 1, spot on, we agree on it. I’m assuming you have Green’s In the Sky, I love his guitar playing. With your rating, I’ll have to go back and play them all. Great video, I enjoyed it very much!
Great ranking. I'd add the Lindsey Buckingham / Christine McVie album from 2017. The drums and percussion are by Mick Fleetwood and John McVie plays bass.
I also agree with your top pick as "Then Play On" however following closely behind are "Future Games" and "Bare Tress". Losing Spencer and gaining Welch which added another strong writer along with Kirwan and Perfect really coming into their own, created some of their strongest LP's to date. You described those LP's very well and was wondering why they weren't ranked higher. I respect that you DID rank the earlier blues period (At least some of it) higher then the Buckingham/Nicks era. I appreciate all your background stories and info, don't change!
Your picks are similar to mine except for the ranking of Mystery to Me, that’s a really fine album from start to finish. I would have moved it up a couple notches.
Future Games & Bare Trees are my number 1 and 2. Kirwan and Welch are an amazing guitar duo. Very mature, high-intellect playing. Kiln house is my #3, Station Man probably my favorite Mac song.
Thanks for this, really enjoyed it. Now somewhat inspired to investigate the period between the Peter Green years and Buckingham Nicks joining the party. Start with Kiln House?
Great ranking Mazzy! I'm not a huge Fleetwood Mac fan...but I agree in general with your ranking. Hey have you ever thought about a couple of "quick hit" rankings? Like the Raspberries (only 4 studio albums), The Knack (only 6 studio albums). I'd love your take on their catalogs. Take care buddy, Matt Street
If people say that is rubbish. This is history telling, if people dont like to ear, they dont like music, can go to see just best offs. Love your work and every technical detail
I first got into Fleetwood Mac in 1972. My top 5 favorite albums: 1) Future Games, 2) Tusk, 3) Tango in the Night, 4) Rumours, 5) Fleetwood Mac - The Collection, of A side and B side singles including "Man of the World" and "Albatross". Although not recorded as an album, many of the songs were not on other albums, only on compilations. Therefore I will put it here because I love these songs.
Hi Mazzy you had me at Fleetwood Mac and your personal experiences. For me it is hard to dispute your great list. I love the Peter Green period, the Kirwan/Spencer, the Bob Welch period and the massive Buckingham Bicks period. I love Tango in the night because Big Love had a massive impact on me... I was 21 in 1987.. the best time of my life. What I wouldn't do to go back to those footloose and fancy free days. God bless your channel, your experiences.. you are the essence of what a connoisseur is and an admirer of art for art's sake. No surprise your career is in photography.
Mystery to Me was my introduction, followed quickly by Oh, Well and Then Play On. The Bob Welch version will always be my favorite, but I like all 3 versions. Fleetwood Mac are three of my favorite bands.
I got the CD box set on your recommendation, it's awesome I love it, and oh my, some of the bonus tracks are fantastic. Tasty box and artwork too. Saves me buying them all individually.
Sorry I missed this one years ago. I totally agree with your best of Fleetwood Mac. I really love the Peter Green era. Check out Gary Moore's "Blues for Greeny" album, an absolutely gorgeous record. The recording & Gary's playing is phenomenal.
I have these 3 separate volumes of the Boston Tea party releases. They are so good! Actually, a new box set is coming out that includes all the discs in it.
Nice ranking, and it’s always a treat to hear you’re story and perspectives. I’m 12 years younger than you and actually came to Fleetwood Mac in the early 80s, being already a huge Stevie Nicks fan, so Rumours will always be number one for me. I’m a sucker for a perfect pop album, especially when it’s from a band not previously known as being pop. ✌️
Great review and the perfect order in my opinion. Thanks for the reviews of the Fleetwood Mac Bob Welch era albums as well. They tend to be overlooked.Mystery to Me being a personal favorite. Thanks as well for mentioning the late great Danny Kirwan. A hard to find Fleetwood Mac song featuring Danny's singing, song writing and guitar work is called Dragonfly .Greenie called it the best thing Danny ever recorded.
Norman ~ I adore ‘Tango In The Night’ it doesn’t sounded dated at all ~ beautifully produced - nearly every track was a single. ‘Tusk’ is my all time favourite FM LP
Stopped it as soon as I saw Tango In The Night last. If it’s an 80s album what else should it sound like? How is it dated? It sounds exactly like a 1987 album should sound like, it’s flawlessly produced too, if anything it was ahead of its time. Easily one of their best albums
If I had to pick the most transcendent live concert experience of my life, it would be this: mid/ late 90s, Long Beach Blues Festival, a whole day tribute to the British Blues players. Everyone was there, John Mayall, Mick Taylor -- and Peter Green. This was his return to music after his many years wrestling with his terrible mental health issues that had him institutionalized off-and-on over the years. I didn't know his music at all. Anyway, out he came with his new band (Splinter Group) around 5pm. We were outside in the late afternoon light - and then this music began that just seemed to come straight from another realm.Time stood still and people were completely aghast and utterly caught up in what I can best describe as a magic spell. Unreal. Bluesy, almost psychedelic, (and yes that Hawaiian thing you mentioned) -- utterly transfiguring. To this day it is the one hour of live music that surpasses all else, and I've been to some amazing concerts. So from there I dived right into early Fleetwood Mac and Greene's solo repertoire.. I was so thrilled to hear you share my opinion of him as the greatest of those British blues players. You describe what he does perfectly. One record you didn't mention, and I didn't even really know about it until I saw it in the used bins and bought on a whim, is The Original Fleetwood Mac, an amazing collection of previously unreleased material. www.discogs.com/master/109228-Fleetwood-Mac-The-Original-Fleetwood-Mac If I had to pick one early Fleetwood Mac/Peter Greene album, this is it. And thanks for the heads up on the live in Boston record - I'm heading straight over to discogs to grab a copy. Thanks again for another wonderful video! Oh, and the Fleetwood Mac at the BBC collection is marvelous too!
For me a band who did not produce music good enough to own, not helped by the members coming across as 'losers', but when their tunes used to manifest on the radio they were tolerable enough, had a talent for well crafted pop songs and catchy melodies.
Really enjoyed your ranking Mazzy. Such a unique band in all of its iterations. I must give Tusk a relisten, of all their albums I own I rarely pull it out. I agree with your comments about Rumours, couldn’t listen to that for years because of the overplay. Cheers.
Hey Mazzy. I mostly agree with you, except for Tusk over Rumors. I’m partial to the Peter Green years, but hard to deny they reached greater commercial success with Buckinham-Nicks.
Hi Mazzy. I enjoyed your UA-cam video as always. Being a fan of all the Fleetwood Mac lineups, I have a hard time ranking these albums. My personal top 10 ranking today would be: 1. Mystery to Me 2. Bare Trees 3. Future Games 4. Tusk 5. Then Play On 6. Rumours 7. Heroes Are Hard to Find 8. Fleetwood Mac (1975) 9. Tango in the Night 10. Kiln House All of these would get five stars from me. By the way, back in May 1975, Fleetwood Mac performed their very first concert with Nicks and Buckingham at the County Colosseum in El Paso. Me and my buddies at UTEP were there third row center. Imagine my surprise to find out that Welch was no longer in the band and instead there was a strange lady dressed like a Gypsy, playing a tambourine, singing with an unusual voice about a Welch witch. I had no idea who she was. I wanted to hear Hypnotized, Emerald Eyes, Future Games, and Bermuda Triangle. Instead I was subjected to the very first time they performed Landslide and Rhiannon to a live audience. I might have, regretfully, yelled a few unkind words towards the stage. I was so disappointed, but shortly afterwards Over My Head was all over the radio. so I bought their new album. After a few spins on the turntable I became Stevie Nicks’ biggest fan. I also saw her very first solo concert which was at the Summit in Houston when she was promoting Bella Donna.
Love your Videos Mazzy. Thanks for sharing you collection with us. I log into You Tube most mornings here in Australia, hoping there is another Mazzy Vid available
A very good ranking Mazzy. While I love Rumours, I tend to agree that it got over played and I can only gravitate to it on occasion even though I was a kid in Junior High when it came out and recall hearing especially Dreams and You Make Loving Fun on the radio, but other tracks from Rumours, and from Flreetwood Mac itself, especially Rhiannon, and Over My Head were fairly big hits. I have both the 45 single of these two, and the LP, and of course, later got the CD, though the vinyl is much better. The Speed of at least Rumours is faster on the CD than on the vinyl. I recall when the song Tusk was on the radio and it seemed like it was THE hit song of that album, have that as well. I actually like Mystery to Me, didn't hear Hypnotized until the 1990's when KMTT was playing it every so often (when it was on the air, went off air in the early 2000's by changing format and call letters). It took me several years to find that album, and bought it for the song but ended up liking it as a whole. For me, Rumours ranks high up for one being a much stronger album as a whole than Fleetwood Mac, but both are very good, and the times in which Rumours documents is what makes it what it is, but again, agree, it grows on me, then it wanes due to its super popularity and it got a bit overplayed in the 70's and early 80's so I take it in doses.
Great to see someone that rates "Then Play On" easily their best album, puts Rumour's in the shade, never the same Band after the loss of Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer
No band is the "same" after they lose important members. Bands develop and change. It would be boring if they never changed. I love all Fleetwood Mac lineups., even the early 90's version with Dave Mason and Bekka Bramlett (Bonnie's daughter).
Thank you for your video! I love Fleetwood Mac (Nicks/Buckingham era) but I bought “The Pious” for black magic woman and to start discovering their other eras. I am really aligned with your ranking but Tango In the night although it has that 80s synth sound has some gems and it’s a little higher on my list. mirage is also on my top three but Tusk is the #1 way above Rumors! And thanks for ranking “Say You will” , maybe the last Fleetwood Mac album should’ve been the one that Christine (RIP) did with Lindsay . As good or a bit better than “Say you will”. It would’ve been fair. Anyway a fantastic band with the weirdest story and change of sounds and continents for so many decades! ❤
I am supersized you are missing two of the albums Time and Behind the Mask but really enjoyed hearing your ranking and thoughts on the albums. I think you forgot about Mirage from 1982 so where would you place that? I always have a hard time trying to rank records especially if I do not have them all. Fun watch thanks Mazzy !!!!
@@mazzysmusic ahhh sorry didn’t mean to be a pest about it ….still enjoyed your ranking I really need to find more Peter Green era . I am sure you know Judas Priest did cover a hard version of Green Manalishi With the Two Prong Crown. If not give a listen fir giggles 😂
Thanks Mazy. Love all three (?) periods of Fleetwood Mac - Green, Welch, Buckingham. I remember not liking Tusk much, because I was expecting/hoping for [self titled]/Rumors-Part 3. Albatross reminds me of surf guitar albums. Good ranking video. - Chris
Hi Mazzy. Do you think the earlyFM would have been remembered or honoured if the later members and commercial success didn’t happen? What are your thoughts?
Nailed it with Then Play On. My Favorite too. Kiln House probably #2. I didn’t know all three guitarists were on The Boston Tea Party set. I passed on it earlier. Definitely need it !! Thanx ! 🎶☮️🎶
Mazzy! Great video, thanks for this.....but....but.....all the way through I'm thinking, wow, he's ranking Mirage very high! Wow!! He's ranking Mirage REALLY REALLY high!!! Dude....You forgot about Mirage from 1982!! Ok, so not essential perhaps, but it has a great great song in That's Alright imho. Have a great Sunday!!
@@mazzysmusic I can understand. It’s how I feel about ‘Time.’ It’s absolutely horrendous and I only purchased it because I wanted the discography to be complete.
My list: #1 Tusk, 2 Rumours, 3 White Album, 4 Say You Will, 5 Then Play On, 6 Tango in the Night, 7 Mirage, 8 PG's Fleetwood Mac, 9 Kiln House, 10 Mystery to Me, 11 Mr Wonderful, 12 Penguin, 13 Heroes are Hard to Find, 14 Bare Trees, 15 Future Games, 16 Time, 17 Behind the Mask
Thanks, Mazzy! Lots of good info on Fleetwood Mac albums to check out. I bought the Rumors and Tusk albums in the 1970s and a few others from the Buckingham-Nicks era. But I need to check out the earlier versions of the band.
Couple songs from that mid-period between the Peter Green years and the Buckingham/Nicks Era that stand out for me are She’s Changing Me and Come a Little Bit Closer. Like you I remember these albums and songs from when they first came out. The very first F.M. album I actually purchased was the untitled white album that came out when I was in college. To this day, the Buckinham solo on Say You Love Me rates among the greatest guitar solos of all time. It took me years of listening to realize he double-tracked his electric and a damn banjo to get that beautiful layering. And the funny thing about the early instrumental Albatross (no it doesn’t come with bloody chips!) is that if it had been released 5 years earlier it could’ve played on Southern California top 40 stations as a mellow surf instrumental. And Man of the World still gives me chills… One other thing: there’s always been a rumor that Peter Green was in the studio with Santana when they recorded Black Magic Woman -and may’ve even played on it. Never been sure about that though…🤷🏼
Been a fan since I first heard Over My Head. I went and bought Fleetwood Mac 75 and loved it. Then Rumours hit. After that I discovered the back catalogue the magnificence of Peter Green- Albatross, Man of the World etc. I also like the Bob Welch era and Danny Kirwan is a terrific guitar player in his own right especially on Bare Trees. 1.Fleetwood Mac-75 2. Bare Trees 3. Tusk 4. Rumours 5. Then Play On.
The Fleetwood Mac blues albums were never available around where I grew up. The record stores did not have them. In fact I never knew they were a blues band until cd's came out. Now they are rare and cost a mint.
Hey Mazzy, personally Mr. Wonderful is my favorite, and was happy to pick up an og UK copy from Royal in Queen Anne! But I also won’t argue with Then Play On being #1. I’m a big fan of the Peter Green era and it’s a great album. “Show-Biz Blues” is one of my favorite songs in their whole catalogue. Cheers Mazzy!
Of course I like all these records for the most part. Mr Wonderful is a great listen but I just felt it seems like a blues cover album even though it’s mostly not. But they do it so well ✌🏼
Say You Will is criminally underrated. Rolling Stone included ZERO tracks from it in their recent top 50 Fleetwood Mac songs list. If you don't believe me, watch Stevie sing "Goodbye Baby" at their 2003 Boston concert.
It is too long an unfocused meaning the good stuff gets lost in Buckingham's guitar ramblings. Cut 4 songs and the good Mac stuff on here comes more into focus.
It has some very good songs. Could have used McVie's normal contribution and a couple of Buckingham songs (Come and Murrow turning over in his grave) could have been cut. Somebody suggested Red Rover but I actually really like the guitar in that song.
Was "Mirage" just a mirage? I somehow missed it and thought it was your #1 when you got to the end when I was thinking of which records you hadn't shown yet. Anyway, great ranking and background for each. Put me also in the Pro-Tusk camp. I LOVE that record!
I became a huge mac fan around 1979, but I didn't go for the Buckingham nicks version. I went for The then play on lineup, especially green and kirwan. The way they played guitar together blew me away. The 3 cd set of the boston tea party 1970 is a must for early fleetwood mac fans. 1. Then play on 2. Bare Trees 3. Peter Green's fleetwood mac 4. Rumors 5. Future games
Man of the world was a great emotional confessional Single on Immediate in the late 60’s.The label went bust soon after and the song never made it to any of their subsequent LP’s.As an insightf into Peter Green’s state of mind at the time it’s hard to beat and definitely worth searching out
When Then Play On was initially released, it did not have "Oh Well" but had 4 songs penned by Danny Kirwan.
I put Tusk and Mirage at the top but it's hard to argue with Then Play On. Unique atmosphere about that album. Also nice to see Kiln House so high.
And a shout out to Station Man off Kiln House. What a record!
Always enjoy listening to what you have to say about your favorite records, Mazzy. Keep the discussions and personal stories coming……and the humor as well.
Humor 🤷🏻♂️😬
Great video Mazzy . I was obsessed with early 70s Fleetwood Mac albums. I loved Mystery to me when it came out. I ‘ve heard that it was Mick’s personal favorite. Then Play On kicks butt also. I have an old jukebox single with Oh Well / Green Manelishi . That’s an interesting 45!
5 Rumors
4 Fleetwood Mac (1975)
3 Tusk
2 Bare Trees
1 Future Games.
Thanks for the rankings!
Then play on???
A well deserved #1 ranking for Then Play On. A desert island album for sure.
Thanks Massy.
Keep on doing videos your way - I love the background stories, personal aspects and that things are put into context 👍
Thank you. It’s what I do. ❣️
Professor Mazzy, you could ramble all you want. I think that’s most entertaining part. I learn something every time I tune in. Not sure anyone does it better.
Ha thanks ✌🏼

Great Ranking!!! I love the Bob Welch era.
No Mirage?... I suppose your rank this album before or after Tango in the night.
¿What do you think about the live album 1982?
¿What do you think about the guitar art of Buckingham?

Danny kirwan hugely underrated
Super enjoyed this! Your rankings certainly upended expectations (Tango in the Night last? Whoa. Though I do agree about the problematic '80s sound), and I appreciate the perspective of someone who got so saturated with Rumours in the late '70s that you couldn't revisit it for decades. Or did I just miss it?)
I forgot to mention Mirage but I don’t have it. Enjoy your deep dive ✌🏼
Yes, what happened to Mirage.
My fave of all time, from anyone, is Tusk. My nr2 Then Play On.
My favorite UA-cam channel and also enjoy your IG page and your posts on the Hoffman board. Enjoy your discussion and thoughts. I like “Tango” much more than you do, but that’s what makes all of this great.
Dear Mazzy, Those critics telling you how to make your own videos - we call them wankers!! You're great just being yourself!
Thank you ✌🏼
A bit higher? That’s an understatement. It’s a classic
Even though I prefer the early years , you can see I enjoy that big period too 🤠
Fleetwood Mac was one of my automatic buy bands in the 70's too.
Bare trees future games mystery to me in my top 5
I first heard Then Play On during my college days-Rattlesnake Shake caught my attention for sure. Recently found a great copy at a record show and had to buy it. I totally agree with your #1 ranking.
Thanks you Brooks. It’s just a great catalog. No real duds. Just some I prefer over others
It’s wonderful 🎸🥁✌🏼
‘Woman of a thousand years’ and ‘Station man’ are two great tracks by Danny Kirwan too.
I’m not sure how I missed this video but thanks for promoting it again. (Sadly because of Christine’s passing 😢)
Of the entire VC your videos are my favorite with your storytelling, insights and humor although musically we tend to have very different preferences we have some common ground with FM.
Your best “ranking” segment yet. Love Fleetwood Mac, especially the blues years. You nailed it!
Not that it matters much but I think you left Mirage out of the rankings
Your picks are similar to mine except for the ranking of Mystery to Me, that’s a really fine album from start to finish. I would have moved it up a couple notches.
Mazzy is the best You Tube channel about music …from bottom of your heart. Love. Peace
Wow. Thank you Vincent. I’m just one out of many others but I appreciate your comment ✌🏼
Hey Mazzy you are always going to get crazy mad fools who need to piss and moan 😱 keep on keepin on. Love the channel
I’ve seen others rate Fleetwood Mac‘s catalog and I think you’re the only one that got it right.
Would you say there is a difference between the sounding of the green and yellow versions of “Future Games”
No difference musically
Great rankings Mazzy. For me my favorites are Bare Trees, Kiln House, the self-titled, and Heroes Are Hard to Find.
Future Games & Bare Trees are my number 1 and 2. Kirwan and Welch are an amazing guitar duo. Very mature, high-intellect playing. Kiln house is my #3, Station Man probably my favorite Mac song.
I liken that era of FM to Pink Floyd between Syd's departure and Dark Side of the Moon.
Thanks for this, really enjoyed it. Now somewhat inspired to investigate the period between the Peter Green years and Buckingham Nicks joining the party. Start with Kiln House?
Maybe that UK best of comp
Great ranking Mazzy! I'm not a huge Fleetwood Mac fan...but I agree in general with your ranking. Hey have you ever thought about a couple of "quick hit" rankings? Like the Raspberries (only 4 studio albums), The Knack (only 6 studio albums). I'd love your take on their catalogs. Take care buddy, Matt Street
If people say that is rubbish. This is history telling, if people dont like to ear, they dont like music, can go to see just best offs.
Love your work and every technical detail
Thank you This is all so subjective ✌🏼
@@mazzysmusic thats the magic of music! Thank you once again for your videos, help me a lot to my list.👌👌🤟🤟✌️✌️
Thanks again Tino ✌🏼
Tea Party ROCKS! So glad you reminded me about this record. It took me a while to find it but it was time well spent. Thanks.
Mystery to Me was my introduction, followed quickly by Oh, Well and Then Play On. The Bob Welch version will always be my favorite, but I like all 3 versions. Fleetwood Mac are three of my favorite bands.
Almost totally agree with your ranking. About Rumours, can't hear that album anymore. It is killed by to much airplay.
Yeah but I still love it. ✌🏼
I got the CD box set on your recommendation, it's awesome I love it, and oh my, some of the bonus tracks are fantastic. Tasty box and artwork too. Saves me buying them all individually.
Great ranking Mazzy, it pretty much mirrors mine.
Yeah Boston is great 🎸
Nice ranking, and it’s always a treat to hear you’re story and perspectives.
Well the story contained beyond Tango. We all have different tastes. That’s how it should be.
Did you ever see early Fleetwood or Peter Greene live?
For me a band who did not produce music good enough to own, not helped by the members coming across as 'losers', but when their tunes used to manifest on the radio they were tolerable enough, had a talent for well crafted pop songs and catchy melodies.
Really enjoyed your ranking Mazzy. Such a unique band in all of its iterations. I must give Tusk a relisten, of all their albums I own I rarely pull it out. I agree with your comments about Rumours, couldn’t listen to that for years because of the overplay. Cheers.
Tusk is not for everyone but it’s rewarding if you just let it happen
Thoroughly enjoyed this video and I see a Fleetwood Mac overdose coming my way.
Hey Mazzy. I mostly agree with you, except for Tusk over Rumors. I’m partial to the Peter Green years, but hard to deny they reached greater commercial success with Buckinham-Nicks.
Thanks for that little trip down Fleetwood Ave. Do your thing Mazz. Screw the critics! Enjoyed this. I lean towards the Peter Green era too. 👍🏼😎
Hi Mazzy. I enjoyed your UA-cam video as always. Being a fan of all the Fleetwood Mac lineups, I have a hard time ranking these albums. My personal top 10 ranking today would be:
1. Mystery to Me
2. Bare Trees
3. Future Games
4. Tusk
5. Then Play On
6. Rumours
7. Heroes Are Hard to Find
8. Fleetwood Mac (1975)
9. Tango in the Night
10. Kiln House
All of these would get five stars from me.
Thank you Dennis ✌🏼
Well said. I mostly agree ✌🏼
Great to see someone that rates "Then Play On" easily their best album, puts Rumour's in the shade, never
the same Band after the loss of Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer
Yeah a bunch noted I forgot Mirage. It escaped me because I don’t own it 🤠🤷🏻♂️
@@mazzysmusic ahhh sorry didn’t mean to be a pest about it ….still enjoyed your ranking I really need to find more Peter Green era . I am sure you know Judas Priest did cover a hard version of Green Manalishi With the Two Prong Crown. If not give a listen fir giggles 😂
@@zeppearl you’re never ever a pain Vance. I have heard the cover version. You’d like Green’s playing. The UK best hits wound be a great start
- Chris
Then Play On ,…. Is my favorite too !
Thank you for the review.
Do what you want-ignore comments. That's what's makes your channel GREAT!!!!#
Great review Mazzy. I would rate the debut lp as #1, but O guess at that point we are splitting hairs. What a great body of work.
Danny Kirrwan hugely underrated,
I enjoy your videos. You ARE the spirit of the sixties!
Yeah read all the comments here and my replies regarding Mirage 🤷🏻♂️🥁
Another of my favorite Peter Greens' F Mac is live at the BBC.
Your "Mr Wonderful" looks absolutely minty! Mazzy, you should have gave us more info on the pressings shown!
Norman! How could ‘Mirage’ and ‘Tango In The Night’ be left out?
Really enjoyed watching the video!
Just not my faves ✌🏼🤷🏻♂️
Yes you do 🤠
Hey Mazzy, would like to know your thoughts on Mirage, Behind the Mask and Time.
Enjoy mirage but don’t own it. Haven’t heard the other two. 😎🤷🏻♂️
Then Play on and Neil Young's On the Beach are the standout melancholic blues rock albums. I always think of them together. Great for a rainy day.
And Man of the World still gives me chills…
One other thing: there’s always been a rumor that Peter Green was in the studio with Santana when they recorded Black Magic Woman -and may’ve even played on it.
This was a damned fine ranking video, packaged with love and care 10/10.
This is it until it changes 🤷🏻♂️
Hey Mazzy, personally Mr. Wonderful is my favorite, and was happy to pick up an og UK copy from Royal in Queen Anne! But I also won’t argue with Then Play On being #1. I’m a big fan of the Peter Green era and it’s a great album. “Show-Biz Blues” is one of my favorite songs in their whole catalogue. Cheers Mazzy!
Of course I like all these records for the most part. Mr Wonderful is a great listen but I just felt it seems like a blues cover album even though it’s mostly not. But they do it so well ✌🏼
@@mazzysmusic Agreed! But Then Play On was definitely the height of that band’s creativity and power, so solid choice Maz!
@@seanswindler3325 i think its a clear 4 songs to cut too. Come, Say Goodbye, Red Rover, and Silver Girl
Good. It’s not that good of an album.
Yeah I neglected to mention Mirage and I don’t have a copy 🤷🏻♂️
Hey Mazzy. Enjoyed listening to your ranking as usual. Love hearing about your personal history with the music. Thanks!
Thank you 🥃🍻
I'm really enjoying the Bob Welch era of Fleetwood Mac just now.
I became a huge mac fan around 1979, but I didn't go for the Buckingham nicks version. I went for
The then play on lineup, especially green and kirwan. The way they played guitar together blew me away. The 3 cd set of the boston tea party 1970 is a must for early fleetwood mac fans.
1. Then play on
2. Bare Trees
3. Peter Green's fleetwood mac
4. Rumors
5. Future games
Yeah Future and Bare Trees really grab you differently than the others ✌🏼
What happened to 1982's "Mirage"?
Future Games yellow cover is the first pressing. My favorite lp by the band.
Man of the world was a great emotional confessional Single on Immediate in the late 60’s.The label went bust soon after and the song never made it to any of their subsequent LP’s.As an insightf into Peter Green’s state of mind at the time it’s hard to beat and definitely worth searching out
I enjoyed your thoughts on each of their albums. Great video Mazzy!
