The Beatles have been in my blood since I was a teenager (I am now 54). I love every album but I love some more than others. I now realise their greatest album for me is from 1964. A Hard Days Night. The UK version is just perfect pop. There is not a weak song on the album. Sublime music from the greatest band of all time. Many regards from England.
I mean this sincerely. Your opinion is the opposite if mine, though I do understand your observations and that that film is also my favorite and perhaps the best 'Rock Film' ever. I grew up in the 60's with their LPs as they came out (parents). Of their first 3 LPs I would put it last (sounding very competant but somewhat 'routine') but based on my desire to hear those LPs now I put 'Meet the Beatles' first (still fresh like the first LP but better recorded) and 'Please Please Me' (fresh and explosive if somewhat rough) as 2nd. IMHO!
Great video! The Yellow Submarine Songtrack is fantastic and, unlike a lot of people, I think All Together Now, Hey Bulldog, Only A Northern Song and It's All Too Much are up there with the best in the Beatles canon. Love the channel and keep on putting out your fantastic video's!
I went back to vinyl exactly one year ago, one of the first things I bought was a blue box, because the records I missed the most where my Beatles records. I am a jazz musician but still the Beatles are my favourite band, that tells you something.
I saw this pop up and I thought 'another Beatles list...' But, as ever Mazzy you made it exceptionally entertaining. Your collection is jaw dropping. Good to see you as always. Cheers for now. Alan
I'm overwhelmed with all your picks. All great, and enjoyed going down through each album you picked out. Second album included. Thanks man, that was very cool!
Mr Moonlight is one John Lennon's best vocals, the entire song can stand up to any song anytime. It was just before Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon, which took the romance out of the aura of moonlight magic and sonatas by the truckload. Great song by the Beatles.
Great choices and commentary. I really enjoyed this video. I totally agree with you about the mix on the Yellow Submarine Songtrack. It's by far my favorite of any of the Beatles comps. Thanks for posting...
My ranking: 13)Yellow Submarine [1969] 12)Magical Mystery Tour [1967] 11)Please Please Me [1963] 10)Beatles For Sale [1964] 9)With The Beatles [1963] 8)Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band [1967] 7)Revolver [1966] 6)A Hard Day's Night [1964] 5)Help! [1965] 4)Abbey Road [1969] 3)The Beatles (The White Album) [1968] 2)Let It Be [1970] 1)Rubber Soul [1965]
If you chose Revolver as your number one, it doesn't make any sense at all to place Rubber Soul at 8th, given that they're most similar of all Beatles albums.
I just came across this video, so the comment isn't very timely, but I remember when KSAN, the San Francisco rock radio station, played Sgt. Pepper's twice in a row on June 21st, 1967, Listening to the album was the best way to spend the first day of summer EVER!
I thought I had a lot of Beatles records.. I have about 2 or 3 copies of every album, a couple titles from John, Paul and George each. Your collection is INSANE. Your Beatles collection is almost as big as my entire record collection. I want to see more of that collection. Do you have a video covering it in more detail?
My Ranking (all U.K. versions): 1) Revolver (Rain and Paperback Writer replace Love You To and Yellow Submarine) 2) Rubber Soul (Day Tripper and We Can Work it Out replace What Goes On and Think For Yourself) 3) Help 4) Hard Day's Night 5) Beatles for Sale 6) White Album 7) Magical Mystery Tour 8) Sgt Pepper (Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane replace When I'm 64 and Fixing a Hole) 9) Abbey Road 10) Please Please Me 11) With the Beatles 12) Yellow Submarine 13) Let It Be
Always great to see your Beatles shelves! Not sure how I would rank my faves. As you say, they're all amazing. Which do I listen to most? Help (US), Please Please Me, Hard Days Night (US), Rubber Soul, Magical Mystery Tour, Sgt Pepper. Help was my first (grown up) record and I love how it introduced me to Beatles, a Bond-like soundtrack score, and Indian music all at once!
Wow , Mazzy that is an impressive Beatles collection. I enjoyed the showing and really liked the German magical mystery tour album cover. Revolver is also my favourite album by the Fab Four. Cheers Snowy
pretty underrated album, indeed it is in my number 5 or so, after Revolver, White Album, Abbey Road and Magical Mystery Tour, but then again they are all great.
That Dave Marsh book looks really cool. Too bad it appears to be out of print. I could still get the Kindle edition, but I have a soft spot for hardbacks.
No apology necessary for mentioning "The Beatles Second Album." Gets my vote for best album of all time and I'm sticking to that. Kinks "Village Green" number 2 should you be wondering.
Top10-Beatles-Albums: 1. White Album (1968)2. Revolver (1966) 3. Please Please Me (1963) 4.Help (1965) 5. Magical Mystery Tour (1967) 6.Sgt.Peppers (1967) 7.A Hard Days Night (1964) 8.Hey Jude(1970) 9.Let it be(1970) 10.Rubber Soul(1965)!
Mazzy, 7 degrees here in north central Massachusetts, but your video warms the cockles of my heart. Always wondered, why do you keep the Dylan Big Blue cd box down with your vinyl?
Hey, new subscriber here. I really enjoyed this. I'm a huge Beatles fan too and am from the UK. It was interesting to hear your take on their best. I'm personally torn between Revolver and the White Album as my favourite by them. Like you said, even their worst is better than most. Cheers.
Awesome to actually see The Beatles wall... and great that you have the Kelly Smith Beatles LP! I was in her fan club for many years and couldn't count how many times I saw her and Sam Butera in Vegas.
Loved your thoroughly entertaining walk-through of top Beatles albums, and all your fan-based collection of Beatlish record editions and memorabilia. I've not seen the US-based editions before and they look good as you say. Here's my top 5:- 1) Revolver(easily the best they ever did at their peak);great photographs; Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, And Your Bird best. 2) Rubber Soul( loved that cover; liked your American version); Baby you can drive my car, The Word, Norwegian Wood. 3) The White Album ( where they recognizably break away into their own songs; generous spread); Back in the USSR, Dear Prudence, Blackbird, While my Guitar, Mother Nature's Son, Helter Skelter, Cry Baby Cry are best. 4) Sgt. Pepper ( great 1st concept album- made as if they were another band; I think Strawberry Fields/Penny lane rather than Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite/Good Morning Good Morning would have been better); A Day in the Life. 5) Abbey Road ( Something, Come Together and the medley of tracks at end the best) .
Love compilation? Alternative and early versions. Also their songs written for others. So much more. Their rock n roll music version totally revised Chuck’s version. Revolver, Rubber Soul, White, Sgts Peppers, Abbey Road, Let it Be, Magical. Didn’t care much for the movie albums. They say there is a missing album too. This fuller overview might explain why they are so admired and covered.and still
Loved the walk through of the collections and the rankings. You know you're a fan though when you collecting pressings from other countries outside of Japan or the country of origin.
Holy crap! What a collection! We will agree to disagree on Rubber Soul & Magical Mystery Tour. I'm just glad you didn't claim the Ringo 1973 album to be a Beatles album lol!! I've seen a couple of people (Mayo & Matthew Smith) rank the Beatles Second Album has their favourite. My brother actually had a copy of it back in the late 70's along with Meet The Beatles & Beatles VI. Our local record shop had many of the US imports for sale. Thanks for doing such a detailed response Mazzy, it was really enjoyable.
Hi Norman this is the first video of yours that I have watched recommended by Emma from Eight Vinyl Low. You have more Beatles/Beatles related records than me and my partner have in total to our over all records your albums must be in the 1000s really enjoying getting into the VC and btw I don't mind you swearing. Brian
Great list, do you know about Klaus Voormans work with Trio, big hit was da da da.I thought of your shelf that says Beatles family ....cheers from germany Sascha
Enjoyed your list.... Revolver for me is the greatest album ever made by anyone. And for an album that includes Yellow Submarine, that's saying something....
My list 13. Yellow Submarine 12. Beatles for sale 11. Sgt pepper 10. Let it be 9. With the beatles 8. White Album 7. Magical mystery tour 6. Revolver 5. Abbey road 4. Please Please me 3. A Hard days night 2. Help! 1. Rubber Soul
Funny. I never quite got into Mr Moonlight UNTIL last night when, somewhat under the influence, I listened to it under cans and realized that, though not a great song - and that schmaltzy Hammond organ! - Lennon’s vocal is simply amazing. He sings the crap out of it. One of his best vocals ever.
Hi Mazzy Great video and ranking.loved seeing your impressive Beatles and co collection. I won't be doing a ranking video, because I'm too fickle!, although Ticket to Ride is my all time favourite song and white album/ pepper probably my favourites.Least favourite is a toss up between the first 2 albums or Beatles for Sale, but then again....!!🙂
Love Mr Moonlight! Long and Winding Road and Maxwells Silver Hammer.......can live without hearing either. Because of the impact: Sgt Pepper will remain my top LP all time for any group.
Just downloaded Dave Marsh's book. "Magical Mystery Tour" one of my favourite albums. Capitol certainly got that one right. Can't go wrong with an album containing "Penny Laine", "Strawberry Fields" and Walrus.
As for rating the albums 13 Yellow Submarine 12 With the Beatles 11Please Please Me 10 Let it Be 08 Help! 08 Beatles for Sale 07A hard Day's Night 06Magical Mystery Tour 05 Rubber Soul 04 Sgt. Pepper's Loneley Hearts Club Band 03 Revolver 02 The Beatles 01 Abbey Road Top 3 is always very difficult and can change at any time.
Wow Mazzy. I was surprised but we agree on the top two! Revolver is the best, you are absolutely right about yellow submarine dragging it down a hair though. My top 5 UK Beatles Records would be 5.With The Beatles 4.Sgt Peppers 3.Rubber Soul 2.White Album 1.Revolver Your videos are helping me in this quarantine man! Keep em comin!
I agree with Revolver being the Beatles best album. Should have placed Yellow Submarine on a B-Side on their current single and included the song Rain on the album. Then the album would have been perfect.
This is probably the first Beatles list video I've seen where I don't agree with anything! Extraordinary! The only thing I can agree with is that "Mr. Moonlight" is underrated.
Seems Pepper has lost its luster to a lot of people and replaced it with Revolver which is a amazing album but Pepper will always be my favorite album.
Hey Mazzy! Love your channel! Off topic, I would love to know your thoughts on Blood Sweat & Tears. I think "Child is Father to the Man" is one of the most unbelievable albums ever made. Seems no one talks about them.
The German MMT you’re holding sounds just as good as the preceding ones with the Hörzu logo on the top left of the jacket. The “good” German MMTs have the matrices SHZE 327 A1 / SHZE 327 B3. The crappier one has the A1 / B1 matrices. Heck, you’re on the Hoffman forums so you should know this ;) Thanks for the video!
And, natch, what makes the A1/B3 so good are the True Stereo versions of "Strawberry Fields" "Penny Lane" and "All You Need is Love" ... I believe that the US issue as well as the UK "stereo" EP are fake stereo. Those A1/B3 MMTs are a must-have!
Thanks for a great video. What a nice Beatles collection you got. 1. Revolver 2. Abbey Road 3. Sgt Peppers 4. Magical Mystery Tour 5. Rubber Soul 6. A Hard Days Night 7. The Beatles 8. Please Please Me 9. Let It Be 10. Help! 11. Beatles For Sale 12. With The Beatles 13. Yellow Submarine
My ranking : 13. Yellow Submarine 12. Beatles For Sale 11. With The Beatles 10. White Album 9. Sgt. Pepper 8. Please Please Me 7. Revolver 6. Help ! 5. Magical Mystery Tour 4. Let It Be 3. Rubber Soul 2. A Hard Day's Night 1. Abbey Road
I’ve been a huge Beatles fan seemingly forever & starting buying their 45s & LPs starting when I was 8 in early 1970. My favorites are as follows: 13. Yellow Submarine Soundtrack: The original 1969 release. It’s All Too Much & Hey Bulldog are favorites of mine. I agree with you about the 1999 Songtrack-remastering really makes those songs pop! 12. Beatles For Sale: their completely understandable exhaustion shows on this disk. My favorites are Don’t want to spoil the party, 8 Days a week, No Reply. Skip Mr Moonlight. 11. With The Beatles: Faves: All I’ve Got to Do, You’ve Really Got a hold on Me, All My Lovin’. Never really cared for I wanna Be Your Man 10. Please Please Me: Faves: There’s a Place, Anna, I saw her standing there. Not a fan of A Taste of Honey 9. Let It Be: I’ve Got a Feeling, Two of Us, Let it Be. Least favorite: Dig it 8. Help: faves: Ticket To Ride, I’ve Just Seen a Face, You’ve Got to Hide… Least favorite: Dizzy Miss Litzy (this song never fit with the mid-65 Beatles imo) 7. A Hard Day’s Night: faves: an awesome album!! Faves: AHDN, Things We Said Today, Anytime at all & many more. No least favorites. 6. The Beatles (White Album): a glorious mess: Faves: Dear Prudence, Long Long Long, Sexy Sadie, I Will, Mother Natures Son, While my Guitar… least favorite: Wild Honey Pie 5. Magical Mystery Tour: incredible classics SFF & Penny Lane, Fool on the Hill, Baby you’re a Rich Man, I am the Walrus. Least fave: Blue Jay Way (after the first 3 minutes) 4. Abbey Road: Faves: all of side 2. Least favorite song: Maxwell’s Silver Hammer 3. Sgt Pepper: All the songs are great imo 2. Rubber Soul: All are great except What Goes On, which is a bit clunky. Also I like Drive My Car, but it doesn’t fit. I’m always surprised they opened each side with these two songs. US versions are much more cohesive! 1. Revolver: Simply a perfect album. I even like Yellow Submarine. She Said, She Said, For No One, Here There Everywhere & I want to tell you are probably my favorites. But jeeze what about Eleanor, Taxman, Got to Get You… Tomorrow??? Etc… Past Masters need consideration too as there are many essential songs just released as singles: Day Tripper, I Want to Hold your Hand, Hey Jude, Don’t Let Me Down, Rain!!!
I’ve never understood tomorrow never knows I used to like it as well but when I bought revolver vinyl I didn’t think it fit There are a lot of gems on the b side I agree with you gtgyitml aybcs and good day and dr Robert are brilliant
From my recollection, for Rubber Soul, only the US stereo version of Rubber Soul has the false intro to I'm Looking Through You (one of my favorites) and I have an outstanding pressing of the US stereo reissue from 1983, as it has one, the reissued rainbow rim label of the 60's, but has a ONE year catalog #. Not sure why the change from previous pressings, but from that, I could ascertain mine is a 1983 pressing from the well regarded Capitol reissues of the Beatles Catalog. This reissue was first issued in 1978 and lasted until 1986-87 when Capitol ceased pressing LP's and the Parlaphone CD's came out, and yes, I do have some of those, but still prefer the US Capitol pressings as that's what I was introduced to, in glorious wide 2 channel stereo in 1976-77 by my best friend whom borrowed his older brother's copies one day and brought them over and I first heard them, then an ex BIL gave me 2 cassettes of their mid early to mid period recordings on 2 cassettes Christmas of 79 and the rest, as they say, is history. Still a big fan of their work, though not a completest by any stretch of the imagination. Rubber Soul is one of my favorites, but it HAS to be the US Capitol STEREO issue though, for that false intro on I'm Looking Through You (love it) and Run For Your Life, even though it's a weaker song of the two. Totally agree with the others, their weakest song was miles better than many's best.
Yes , the US track list of Rubber Soul , is my preferred version as well . Rubber Soul without It's Only Love , and I've Just Seen a Face , just doesn't seem right . This version of Rubber Soul ranks number one in my listing of Beatle favourites . Rounding out the top 5 would be : Abbey Road , A Hard Day's Night , The White Album , and Sgt. Peppers . I am also a fan of Beatles' Second Album , Beatles' "65 , and Beatles VI . The first Beatles album that I bought as a kid was Twist and Shout , which is the Canadian version of Please Please Me , except that it adds From Me To You , and She Loves You , in place of, Misery and I Saw Here Standing There.
Loved the review, didn’t agree with within you without you a fav from sgt peppers, and white album would been great as single album, take off good night, don’t pass me by, why don’t we do in the road, revolution 9
1. Rubber soul 2. Revolver 3. The white album 4. Abbey Road 5. Sgt Pepper 6. Let it be 7. A hard day's night 8. Magical mystery tour 9.Help 10. Please please me 11. For sale 12. With the Beatles ... and some of their best songs like "Paberback writer", "Rain,", "Day tripper" & "we can work it out" aren't even on any of these albums.
Nice list and comments. Hard for me to separate the rep and hype from my perception (what is wrong with me?!), but Sgt Pepper never clicked for me. Revolver UK version w And Your Bird Can Sing and She Said She Said added is the bomb! Cheers
As a photo guy, don’t you think it would have been better for Ringo to be in line with the rest of them? Or was technology lacking for that to be the case?
Not about technology but wanting to fit into a square cover format. I guess they could have had two top and bottom but Robert Freeman had a great eye and liked their positions. All taken together.
Another interesting list...although you mixed in US pressings with it..I understand why. I agree the Beatles Second Album is an amazing rock album. But I don't agree that the US Rubber Soul is better. I've always loved Drive my Car...the album doesn't seem complete without it. Take care Mark Anthony K Projekt Gemineye
Mazzy man your are a Beatles Maniac which is great luv that collection. Revolver followed by Sgt Peppers that OG Stereo sounds outstanding then Abbey Road then White Album in My Book. Mazzy your the Man 😋👍
Great video - came to this late Can’t argue with any of your run-down as there is no “right” when it comes to this band. Ringo sets the tone on Sgt Pepper, though and Long and Winding Road obviously is a classic That said, why didn’t they select don’t let me down, back seat of my car, everything must pass, for LIB?
I think Ringo is amazing. I love Octopus's Garden. I love Don't Pass Me By. And, with the Beatles being so popular, it is sometimes possible to feel fatigued towards some of their more popular songs. With a Little Help From My Friends can fall into that category. I still love it. Also, you don't need to call out the worst song on an album if you like the song. I think Ringo is an essential part of the Beatles... just as much as any other Beatle. I ❤️Ringo. He's pretty f-ing cool!
I agree. And if you are going to pick any worst songs, 'Revolution #9' and 'Her Majesty' are some pretty low hanging fruit for those Ringo songs to overtake.
Norman: You Can`t Compare The Cover Of "With The Beatles" To "Electric Cafè" By "Kraftwerk". It`s A Completely Different Way Of Design. The Germans Made 3D Creations For This At The Institute Of Technology In New York And Showed The Technical Side Of Our Everyday Life And This Is The World We Live In. It Was A Lot Of Work And The Head Sizes Had To Be Measured Precisely To Continue Working On. That Was Also Part Of The Aesthetic(s) For The Video Of "Musique Non Stop". When They Released The Single, It Was A New Or Different Way Of Artwork And In Permanent Rotation On "MTV". Even Today: This Is More Than Just A Photo.
It's unfortunate that in some senses you don't make more Beatles content Mazzy. I understand your reasoning, but I dare say that you Beatles content is on part with some of the best on UA-cam. I have to agree with you regarding "With The Beatles", although I think what damns it in the eyes of Beatles fans who give it a low ranking is that it is neither as bombastic as "Please Please Me" nor revolutionary as "A Hard Day's Night". "A Hard Day's Night" in particular for me at least defines the second wave of rock 'n' roll music or if you prefer the much lauded "The Liverpool Sound". It is the album of record as far as that period of music is concerned. "With The Beatles" is the album that fell between these two and is perhaps the very best exploration of The Beatles' roots in terms of their rock 'n' roll influences, although you could certainly make the case for "Please Please Me" as well. So in that context it is absolutely essential in terms of it's relevance to the rest of the canon, but in terms of sheer listening enjoyment, at times the covers tend to not mesh as well with the original compositions on that record. I will say that both "A Taste of Honey" and "Till There Was You" have become eminently important to the legacy of The Beatles as time has moved forward as more so than anything else in their catalog, it is these two songs that keep The Beatles firmly rooted within the nineteen sixties. There has always been this overriding narrative about the timelessness of Beatles music and while that is certainly fine, I think an equally important narrative to keep in mind is that The Beatles were very much a part of the musical climate in which their work was created in the sense that in the early sixties, a band such as The Beatles would be expected to add a few novelty songs like "Till There Was You" into their repertoire in order to satiate a certain demographic of their audience. This is a trend that obviously went away with time as popular music moved forward, but I've always been glad that "A Taste of Honey" and "Till There Was You" are on Beatles album for if nothing else that reminds us that they came along at a very specific junction in musical history and became a huge part of that era.
I first heard The Beatles on the Red Album in my sister’s apartment in the 80s, when I was a teenager. I’ve struggled with them a lot since and I’ve now come to accept that I’m really only a casual fan. That Red album plus Rubber Soul and Revolver - is really all I need. Dylan is in my blood, I love the Stones from Beggars Banquet to Undercover, I love The Byrds up to Sweetheart of the Rodeo but so much Beatles I just can’t love. I have tried. I hope you don’t hate me now.
For What It’s Worth: 13. Yellow Submarine 12. With The Beatles 11. Beatles for Sale 10. Please Please Me 9. Hard Days’ Night 8. Let It Be 7. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band 6. Help! 5. Rubber Soul 4. The White Album 3. Magical Mystery Tour 2. Abbey Road 1. Revolver Just my preference. Sgt. Pepper’s would be higher if I was being paid to be objective.
Magical Mystery Tour wasn't an album in the UK, it was only available as an EP The US album was widely imported into the UK so years later they finally decided to release a British version of the American album
They really changed the course of popular music as far s I am concerned, my top two would be A Hard Day's Night & Please Please Me. PPM was the second album I owned and played it to death, AHDN is my go to album when my spirits need lifting, all penned by them and not a bad track on the album.
Great video as usual! My order of Beatles' albums would be completely different, but we definitely agree on best/ worst songs. I always thought "Love Me Do" was way overrated, but never heard anyone else actually say that until now. You forgot the worst Beatles song ever (on Rubber Soul).... "Run For Your Life".
In hindsight, as far as the US Beatles albums go, I do prefer 'Meet The Beatles' to 'With The Beatles' . I also prefer the US 'Magical Mystery Tour' album to the UK double EP. 'Second ,(Capitol), Album' ,aside from the rather unimaginative title, is an enjoyable listen ,even with the fake stereo on tracks like 'I'll Get You' & 'She Loves You'. "Rubber Soul' works, although I miss 'Nowhere Man' and 'If I Needed Someone' not being on it. 'Rubber Soul' was also one of only 3 instances when a US Beatles album had 12 songs on it. The others were United Artists' 'Hard Day's Night' and Capitol's 'Help!' The others, up to 'Revolver' had only 11 songs on them. Very entertaining presentation. I also wanted to mention Capitol in Canada released Beatles records a year before Capitol in The US did. All the early singles from 'Love Me Do' to 'She Loves You' had that Capitol swirl on them in Canada. 'She Loves You' was eventually the song that broke The Beatles in Canada in November of 1963. 2 of the Canadian albums had 14 tracks on them: 'Beatlemania! With The Beatles' which had the same track listing and cover as the UK version, released in late November of 1963, and 'Twist & Shout', released in Feb. of 1964, but, without 'I Saw Her Standing There' and 'Misery'. They were replaced with current hits "From Me to You' & 'She Loves You'. The previous 2 songs were put on the rather dubious last Canadian Beatles album "Long Tall Sally, released in may 1964 with the same cover as the US "Second album', with a slightly different shade of colour on the front. It was rather dubious as it contained at least 4 songs that were already on the 'Beatlemania!' album. They charted in the US and Capitol in the US ordered Capitol Canada to stop issuing their own albums and follow their issues afterwards. Here's the Canadian story. Enjoy: ua-cam.com/video/QkfyPevY42M/v-deo.html
@@mazzysmusic Yeah, me too! But while still a teen, FM wasn’t something we had at home! But KFRC were good for playing Led Zeppelin one minute, and Sammy Davis Jr. the next! Quite a Musical Lesson!
I have all of the Klaatu albums on Capitol Records. Kinda fun stuff.. Hilarious that some folks thought Calling Occupants were the Beatles. Good promo for the band.
The Beatles worst album is still a 5 star record. I don't have that shirt but I have the 10th anniversary poster. I'm glad you pointed out what a great ROCK record The Beatles 2nd album is. Hey Bulldog on Songtrack is the way it always should have sounded. I get so sick of people saying they're just a pop group...not rock. Rock N Roll was an evolution as well as a revolution. When the topic is Beatles you have to prepare for PID nuts to show up P.S. stop picking on Ringo.
Enjoyed your review, Massie! My favorite is Sargent Pepper's it is so much fun to listen to, the laughter on the first track, like you are entering a musical carnival. My favorite Beatles song is Penny Lane. 'Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes' is about being immersed in a world and the fond memories you have of that time. I understand musically that Revolver is a great album but the themes of the songs are depressing. Eleanor Rigby keeps her face in a jar by the door? Uugh. And a song about the tax man? No thanks! I want to meet the girl with kaleidoscope eyes : )
A Hard Day's Night is also my favorite. I like 'em all but I prefer the pre-Pepper era.
Sgt Pepper Songs work great on the BLUE ALBUM
I even like BEATLES Love?
Alan
Yeah too many Beatles videos so I keep it at a minimum even though I have a huge interest and collection of their work.. Thank you for watching .
@@mazzysmusic I think you should do more Mazzy. You always make it interesting. I think seeing more of your collection is a must!
I'm overwhelmed with all your picks. All great, and enjoyed going down through each album you picked out. Second album included. Thanks man, that was very cool!
Mazzy, I never tire from seeing another great Beatles vid!
I agree with your evaluation of the Yellow Submarine Song-track. Great, great album
Dude, I am so happy that you like Mr.Moonlight, I heard that a lot of people hate it but it is so good imo
Mr Moonlight is one John Lennon's best vocals, the entire song can stand up to any song anytime. It was just before Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon, which took the romance out of the aura of moonlight magic and sonatas by the truckload. Great song by the Beatles.
Oh man I love Johns vocal performance on that song lol but I thought I was the only one
Best intro for a song. The beat is sublime.
Mazzy you’re ten outta ten. Always watch your videos while I drink my morning coffee . I hope that ocean never gets dry. Cheers
Man,I want to say I just discovered your channel, and I've been watching it for 3 days strait now.Good stuff.
Thank you. There’s a ton of content and variety I hope. ✌🏼
Great choices and commentary. I really enjoyed this video. I totally agree with you about the mix on the Yellow Submarine Songtrack. It's by far my favorite of any of the Beatles comps. Thanks for posting...

2)Let It Be [1970]
1)Rubber Soul [1965]
If you chose Revolver as your number one, it doesn't make any sense at all to place Rubber Soul at 8th, given that they're most similar of all Beatles albums.
Great ranking video! I enjoyed every minute of it. And I liked your US albums "twist" to it. All the best Mazzy....Cheers Matt
My Ranking (all U.K. versions):
1) Revolver (Rain and Paperback Writer replace Love You To and Yellow Submarine)
2) Rubber Soul (Day Tripper and We Can Work it Out replace What Goes On and Think For Yourself)
3) Help
4) Hard Day's Night
5) Beatles for Sale
6) White Album
7) Magical Mystery Tour
8) Sgt Pepper (Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane replace When I'm 64 and Fixing a Hole)
9) Abbey Road
10) Please Please Me
11) With the Beatles
12) Yellow Submarine
13) Let It Be
Great video Mazzy, always interesting to hear other people’s views
I agree with you about Beatles For Sale- probably their most underrated album and No Reply is an absolute stunner.Played it to death when I was 10
pretty underrated album, indeed it is in my number 5 or so, after Revolver, White Album, Abbey Road and Magical Mystery Tour, but then again they are all great.
Well my record room is next to my office and CD room and the Dylan blue box is big and just fits there on top 🤷🏻♂️
Hey, new subscriber here. I really enjoyed this. I'm a huge Beatles fan too and am from the UK. It was interesting to hear your take on their best. I'm personally torn between Revolver and the White Album as my favourite by them. Like you said, even their worst is better than most. Cheers.
I assume you have the Fireman in the McCartney section? I’d enjoy having the story behind these recordings. As always, love your channel.
Here's my top 5:-
1) Revolver(easily the best they ever did at their peak);great photographs; Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, And Your Bird best.
4) Sgt. Pepper ( great 1st concept album- made as if they were another band; I think Strawberry Fields/Penny lane
rather than Being for the Benefit of Mr.
This fuller overview might explain why they are so admired and covered.and still
Love Me Do is amazing and also The Long and Winding Road is amazing. We all know that !
Loved the walk through of the collections and the rankings. You know you're a fan though when you collecting pressings from other countries outside of Japan or the country of origin.
Thanks Paul.. The Russian-Soviet LPs are from the 70s are pretty ragged. Underground I assume since I think they were illegal back then....
My 2 favorites are Rubber Soul & Help , both from 1965. ✌ to all on MLK Day.
Don’t forget The Beatles Live At The BBC 1994 a tremendous Double, and also the later Vol 2.
Yup 45 years of collecting. No Ringo is not a Beatles album. Thanks for the push to do this 🥁🎸🎶
Hi Norman this is the first video of yours that I have watched recommended by Emma from Eight Vinyl Low. You have more Beatles/Beatles related records than me and my partner have in total to our over all records your albums must be in the 1000s really enjoying getting into the VC and btw I don't mind you swearing. Brian
Thank you for visiting and watching. Hope you enjoy some of these.

Yup🥁
Hi Mazzy
Great video and ranking.loved seeing your impressive Beatles and co collection.
As for rating the albums
13 Yellow Submarine
12 With the Beatles

10 Let it Be

Wow Mazzy. I was surprised but we agree on the top two! Revolver is the best, you are absolutely right about yellow submarine dragging it down a hair though. My top 5 UK Beatles Records would be
5.With The Beatles
4.Sgt Peppers
3.Rubber Soul
2.White Album
1.Revolver
Your videos are helping me in this quarantine man! Keep em comin!
Your five are great too of course. I’m sure my lists might be a bit different today. Every changing depending on mood. Thanks for watching.
Would love to see you rank the Beach Boys' records!
Pepper is amazing and maybe the most groundbreaking pop album ever made historically speaking . 🌸
Hey Mazzy! Love your channel! Off topic, I would love to know your thoughts on Blood Sweat & Tears. I think "Child is Father to the Man" is one of the most unbelievable albums ever made. Seems no one talks about them.
I love their first album led by Al Kooper Their second is great but very different ✌🏼
@@mazzysmusic ✌

I’ve been a huge Beatles fan seemingly forever & starting buying their 45s & LPs starting when I was 8 in early 1970. My favorites are as follows:
Never really cared for I wanna Be Your Man
10. Please Please Me: Faves: There’s a Place, Anna, I saw her standing there. Not a fan of A Taste of Honey
9. Let It Be: I’ve Got a Feeling, Two of Us, Let it Be. Least favorite: Dig it
8. Help: faves: Ticket To Ride, I’ve Just Seen a Face, You’ve Got to Hide… Least favorite: Dizzy Miss Litzy (this song never fit with the mid-65 Beatles imo)
7. A Hard Day’s Night: faves: an awesome album!! Faves: AHDN, Things We Said Today, Anytime at all & many more. No least favorites.
6. The Beatles (White Album): a glorious mess: Faves: Dear Prudence, Long Long Long, Sexy Sadie, I Will, Mother Natures Son, While my Guitar… least favorite: Wild Honey Pie
5. Magical Mystery Tour: incredible classics SFF & Penny Lane, Fool on the Hill, Baby you’re a Rich Man, I am the Walrus. Least fave: Blue Jay Way (after the first 3 minutes)
4. Abbey Road: Faves: all of side 2. Least favorite song: Maxwell’s Silver Hammer
3. Sgt Pepper: All the songs are great imo
Etc…
Past Masters need consideration too as there are many essential songs just released as singles: Day Tripper, I Want to Hold your Hand, Hey Jude, Don’t Let Me Down, Rain!!!
I’ve never understood tomorrow never knows I used to like it as well but when I bought revolver vinyl I didn’t think it fit
There are a lot of gems on the b side I agree with you gtgyitml aybcs and good day and dr Robert are brilliant
Very impressive collection but how do you get time to play them?
KFRC was the first station I fell in love with around 1968 ??
1. Rubber soul
2. Revolver
3. The white album
4. Abbey Road
5. Sgt Pepper
6. Let it be
7. A hard day's night
8. Magical mystery tour
9.Help
10. Please please me
11. For sale
12. With the Beatles
... and some of their best songs like "Paberback writer", "Rain,", "Day tripper" & "we can work it out" aren't even on any of these albums.
Nice list and comments. Hard for me to separate the rep and hype from my perception (what is wrong with me?!), but Sgt Pepper never clicked for me. Revolver UK version w And Your Bird Can Sing and She Said She Said added is the bomb! Cheers
Revolver and Rubber Soul. NO Doubt!
should be a compilation called Rubber Revolver with all the best tracks from both albums
How can you rank Let it Be below For Sale?
I can never understand how RUBBER SOUL (og verion) is not always nr 1 for everybody.
wooow - what a collection !!!!!!!!! - beautiful
Hi Mazzy, have you ever done Donovan albums ranked?
Haven’t done a Donovan ranking however I’ve showcased his records a lot. I’m a huge fan ✌🏽
Take care

Mazzy man your are a Beatles Maniac which is great luv that collection. Revolver followed by Sgt Peppers that OG Stereo sounds outstanding then Abbey Road then White Album in My Book. Mazzy your the Man 😋👍
Finally someone who loves Mr Moonlight! Thought i was the only one.
Great video - came to this late
Can’t argue with any of your run-down as there is no “right” when it comes to this band.
Ringo sets the tone on Sgt Pepper, though and Long and Winding Road obviously is a classic
That said, why didn’t they select don’t let me down, back seat of my car, everything must pass, for LIB?
Hello my friend, your channel is awesome... Is Beatles your favourite band?
This is a trend that obviously went away with time as popular music moved forward, but I've always been glad that "A Taste of Honey" and "Till There Was You" are on Beatles album for if nothing else that reminds us that they came along at a very specific junction in musical history and became a huge part of that era.
jldraw I’ll make more when I feel the urge. There’s so much out there and infant to rotate the music I have. Thank you 😎
I would say you ARE picking on Ringo, because "With a Little Help from Your Friends" is fantastic. I like "Yellow Submarine" too.
I never hate anyone based on their musical likes or dislikes. One can be wrong and still liked 😄🥺🤠🤓
@@mazzysmusic You’re a good man
For What It’s Worth:
13. Yellow Submarine
12. With The Beatles
11. Beatles for Sale
10. Please Please Me
9. Hard Days’ Night
8. Let It Be
7. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
6. Help!
5. Rubber Soul
4. The White Album
3. Magical Mystery Tour
2. Abbey Road
1. Revolver
Just my preference. Sgt. Pepper’s would be higher if I was being paid to be objective.
Magical Mystery Tour wasn't an album in the UK, it was only available as an EP The US album was widely imported into the UK so years later they finally decided to release a British version of the American album
I know it wasn’t. Mazzy also stated that. I was just ranking the same albums he did. But thanks.
They really changed the course of popular music as far s I am concerned, my top two would be A Hard Day's Night & Please Please Me. PPM was the second album I owned and played it to death, AHDN is my go to album when my spirits need lifting, all penned by them and not a bad track on the album.
I'll Get You was my favorite Beatles tune as a kid.....as you all know it was the b side to She Loves You......
Run For Your Life is a definite stinker on an otherwise fantastic album.
I cannot really comment as to the ranking as I have no UK versions, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Thanks, Chris
Fitting into the T shirt, impressive!
Hold Me Tight is one of my faves from the early days also. It’s an underrated rocker.
Yessss
One of my favourite Lennon/McCartney chord progressions is the chorus of that song.
I like the Beatles tee-shirt you got. Cool.
Mazzy, when you go, can be curator of your museum?
Top Five, in order, my order; 1 Sgt. Pepper, 2 Revolver; 3 Rubber Soul, 4 The Beatles (White Album), 5 A Hard Days Night (UK) .
KFRC & Dr Don Rose! Grew up on KFRC, Mazzy! I used to collect their Top 40 fold-a-list cards at the record store every week!
BTW: We love Mazzy!!!
Yeah I remember Dr Don. But I was more of a KYA guy then moved to FM with KMPX and KSAN 🚀
@@mazzysmusic Yeah, me too! But while still a teen, FM wasn’t something we had at home! But KFRC were good for playing Led Zeppelin one minute, and Sammy Davis Jr. the next! Quite a Musical Lesson!
I have a boxset of the US releases. Love it. "Something New" was always my favorite.
Mazzy what are your thoughts on Klaatu? are you into them
I have all of the Klaatu albums on Capitol Records. Kinda fun stuff.. Hilarious that some folks thought Calling Occupants were the Beatles. Good promo for the band.
@@mazzysmusic i love the track Doctor Marvello sounds like George Harrison singing!
My top Beatles album is also Revolver apart from a few tracks . Tomorrow never knows and She said she said are the best 2 on there
..Hi Norm.....have you decided on your least liked song on BFS yet.....I' m on tenterhooks...
No ,No The Long And Winding Road. Without a question one of their best!!!!
When the topic is Beatles you have to prepare for PID nuts to show up
P.S. stop picking on Ringo.
The Magical Mystery Tour EP was only 5 songs. Once it was released with 11 songs, it was an LP. No such thing as an 11 track EP
Thank you for The Songbook.
