  • Trying the Marie Kondo Method even though it scares me
    the KonMari Method has been really daunting to me.
    I have been on a minimalism journey in 2022, but I haven't tried this method. And it truly scares me. I needed to only do a small space in my house to try it, my closet needed a declutter anyway :)
    Journey to Minimalism 2022 Playlist: • Journey to Minimalism ...
    Decision Fatigue comes easily with this Method. Because you have to hold each item and feel things about each item. Does it Spark Joy? It's hard to tell after a while. I'm not sure this method will work for every occasion, which is why I have been picking and choosing methods for each location in my house.
    Thanks for making me try this method! I have been avoiding this method like the plague. So I'm excited to say that I have tried it.

    I read the " life changing magic of tidying up" 1st thing she trys to convey that she IS NOT a minimalist. Her theory is whether its 3 things or 300, that you love the items and are able to manage/ take care of/ put them in their proper homes easily. But usually most of us just have way too many things to manage, but her process has never been about how much, or the amount we declutter. All that being said, I think you did awesome, decision fatigue is definitely a thing. When I do Kon Mari decluttering I use sub categories to handle the overwhelming feeling. So 1 day I'd do all short sleeves, 1 day all long sleeves etc. I still got to the end result just a little slower :-) Due for another round its been a bit of time.

      I read her book when it first came out and it started me on my decluttering journey. I also broke down categories into more manageable bites rather than all the clothes on the bed. When I went through my shoes I sat in my entrance way with an empty donate box and tried on every pair of shoes. It they felt at all uncomfortable, into the box they went. If I was unsure I walked down the hallway. I got rid of 80% of my shoes (which I didn’t wear anyway) and suddenly putting them away was so easy. I could also easily find a pair of shoes as they all now fit and were uncomfortable. It took me less than an hour and I had no mess as the now full donate box went right into my car.

      I know you cannot do your husband’s clothes but can you do a little bit of “pre-sort” to make it easier for him ??? He has not been on a 6 month decluttering journey like you have been so it is probably a little overwhelming; he is not looking forward to doing it probably. Also if it doesn’t matter to him as much as it does to you then he won’t make it a priority to declutter. If you wait for him to WANT to declutter; it might never happen. If you help the process by pre sorting what you think is too small, too worn out , etc then maybe he will consent to you setting a time to help him decluttering his clothes. Idk maybe it would speed up the process a little bit.

    Good call to put Devon's gift in your memory box. Clothes can also be sentimental. If you would continue this method you would eventually go through your memory box as part of the sentimental cathegory.

    Also liked for Devon's closet :) Everyone is different. For me, I prefer Marie Kondo's method for decluttering clothes and books because you put all of that category you have (laundry included) in one big pile and she says you experience a "shock" of how much you have. I like to see how much I really have in one go. It also helps me to buy less. I just love her. Thanks for your video :) Have a good day

    I read her book years ago and used parts of it. I don't believe in the whole inanimate objects have feelings and all, but she had some good points. The whole reason to pull ALL your clothes out (I understand the maternity clothes staying separate) is so that you can see what you actually have. Many people live in denial and think they don't really have that much until they pull it out of all the hiding places and see they have 50 t-shirts (many they don't wear) or something like that. I didn't keep the book, either. Once you've read it, why keep it?
    Oh...and did you see Cass's clothes closet youtube that went out today!? Very good. (and encouraging)

    I appreciate Marie Kondo for bring the Minimalist style videos as suggestions on my UA-cam. I love the folding method and like the idea of seeing all your stuff together to make a judgement as well as touching everything. The only thing I disagree with is I view stuff as what it is- stuff. They don't have feelings that I have to thank them for and I don't even like to say that I love items because I agree with The Minimalists thought that we love people and use things . Awesome job of doing and sharing the scary/daunting things :D

    I felt your pain at getting rid of that brown cardi. I recently had to say goodbye to my favourite cardi. of all time. It was big, and colourful and cost a pretty penny. But it had become a weird shape, was starting to 'bobble', and no longer went with most of the other contents of my wardrobe. So I said an (almost) tearful "Goodbye," and moved on.
    I see the likes are already in the five hundreds. Look out, Devon.

    Great job, Lindsay! Love how you talk through your decisions for each item. Re: thrifting clothes: I have to be careful, because I tend to buy clothes I even just "kind of" like at thrift stores, since they don't cost that much, relative to buying a similar item new. I need to be more discerning. Example: last year I thrifted 5 summer blouses because I had none & wanted to elevate my look beyond tank tops & Ts. I did wear most of them at least once, but this year when I pulled them out, I wondered why I bought most of them (e.g. not the greatest colour on me, didn't care for the fabric or else the fit on me, etc.) & am only keeping one. Live & learn.

    Sorry Lindsay, I knew if anyone could do the KM method it would be you. I have far too many clothes - including work clothes but I haven't been in work since having my little boy. If the store was still open where I bought most of my expensive clothes I may be temped to discard them, but they no longer make these expensive workplace suits. KM method is not about making you throw away Devon's hoodies he gave you... but for you to appreciate them again and love them for having them. It's about collating the things you love or use (such as painting and decorating clothes.... even though I don't love them) and discarding those I hate wearing cos they feel too tight, don't like the material, I feel uncomfortable wearing them etc. Much respect to you. You did an awesome job. I'm so sorry I ticked the box... first. Inspirational. I must go through my casual everyday wear now like you have done. Thank you. Hoping Devon gets another 200 likes .... just so he can appreciate how 'free' it feels knowing that everything you take out of the wardrobe you will want to wear rather than putting things back again. xx

    You said it scared you but I think you did great for the first time! And look, you were able to make some hard , but necessary decisions on pieces of clothes that were taking room in your closet. I think you have a nice sense of style. :)

      I just had never done it before, and new things scare me. But my decluttering muscles are growing :) so I was able to do it anyway :) despite the nerves

    Great job! I couldn't help but think you need a work/paint tshirt... you kept pants and a sweatshirt but no tshirt. 🤣🥰

      I definitely do, I think I had one in the wash actually.
      There was one load of laundry in the washer while filming this video.
      Can never stay perfectly on the laundry to keep all my clothes in the closet. 😂

    this video made me look at my closet and theres definitely 5 pieces im thinking about i just dont know if im ready.. they are all newer to me and i think maybe a couple were bought out of excitement and not consodering my actual style...
    but as of this comment you are over half way on the likes to getting closet access!

    if you put your hangers facing the other way...then where you wear them put them the way you have...and then in a year's time...you will know what you wore and what you didn't...

    Still watching your video but I wanted to throw out a suggestion!! I’ve been told that when you go through your closet like you are doing, to hang the clothes in backwards (as in the hanger hooks from the back instead of normal from the front). Then in 3-6 months when you go through your clothes again, you will know anything that has the hanger backwards you have not worn!! After you wear something you hang it back like normal. Just an idea

    • @Lindsay_Lexus
      @Lindsay_Lexus  2 роки тому +1

      I love this tactic! I actually did this at the beginning of the year and it really helped me declutter so many things previously :)
      Thanks Darsee! I think this works for every closet :) and should be utilized more ♥️

    isn't that the whole house. 😜 I do love the vertical folding for clothes in drawers. I fold my kids clothes that way. easy to see their shirts.

      That’s so awesome!!! :) I have yet to try her folding. I have folded dans clothes vertically before. But he goes into his drawers and messes them up. So I just feel better about throwing them in. Folding is more work than I’m willing to put in currently

    It is so weird that you mentioned the smell of the item that you bought from Costco. I bought a really cute lands end summer dress from there and it has a really weird smell to it. I have tried every washing method and I even hung it outside for a week and it still smells and I decided I'm just putting it in the donation.

      I only use drawers for undergarments, and Dans clothes. But I don’t fold dans clothes, cuz it would feel overwhelming to me.

    I’m not super familiar with the Marie Kondo method. I can see how it works well for clothes but what about other stuff that doesn’t spark joy? Like kitchen stuff, for example. My cheese grater doesn’t spark joy in me but I’ve still got to grate cheese. See what I mean? Does anyone know how this method gets around that?

    • @Lindsay_Lexus
      @Lindsay_Lexus  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah I think it would be hard, there are things in my kitchen that definitely don’t spark joy… 😂 which is why I like to do the container method in the kitchen instead
